I guess that's why S&B appealed to me more, because their angst was different from all the other couples. All the 80's couples had the same angst.

Different strokes, I guess. I couldn't get into to them because I never liked Sonny, not even before he started to eat the show. I liked my more romantic leading men in the Robert/Frisco mold - ethically sound but flawed in other ways, and devoted to their women. I don't believe either ever strayed, rare in the soap world.
Sonny and Brenda were good for the time. I liked them, but never the same as other 80s couples. The angst was different for them in some ways. You had the third party of Jax, like Luke had Scotty with Laura and the "on the run" stuff was the same, but different. I stopped liking S&B when it lasted too long and they were on and off again too many times.
I never got the appeal of S&B either sonny was abusive to her imo with the nasty name calling and crazy jealousy ..JMO

Then he sucked at it because he never could control her or what she did.

;tu
He never tried to control her in a dominating way anyway. Fearing for her safety and being a control freak are two different things. Holly had a good man in Robert and all Holly fans know that.
ICAM, He loved her and was just worried for her like any husband would be.

Exactly. Robert didn't care what Holly's did, however what Holly really wanted to do, (solve police cases with him) had to be approved by the police commissioner (which was he husband) It just the way it was..It was a trend with Robert's women, they wanted to work closely with him or they wouldn't never see him...He was a true workaholic and that way with all his loves including the 2 most important Anna and Holly.

I can't take Sonny declaring his love for any woman seriously when he's done it so many times
He is a PIG!
IKR. Sonny loves everybody he screwed. yuck and he chose almost every female over Carly, Connie over Brenda...I don't believe in S&B anymore either.

Yup Yup. No Problem

Do they script that kind of thing? :think You get your script and it says suck on her arm while she's talking? :lolz
I think these pairs done whatever they needed to make their pair super hot. ;hot
I'd bet the arm sucking was in the moment, her arm was there and he improvised. Sounds funny but I always found things like that more intimate than just plain kissing cuz that's not necessarily an action choice you make with just anyone. Often the magic is in the little things.

That clip this came from is new to me or I just don't remember watching it before. But the best part of that was after she says you've a hard day and he says "so hard" and you hear his zipper pull at the same time. LOL subtle. But these two were the king and queen of fade to black, always annoyed the hell out of me with the editing staff.

It is the little things, isn't it? I truly believe that's what sets the supercouples apart from the regular, popular couples. All those little things.

It was about ego.
A whole year after leaving, SBU finally told the truth as to why he really left GH. It was during the interview with SK and SK's wife on a show that they hosted. SBU said "I was cut from the team." Then goes on to explain that his agent kept calling FV to negotiate a new contract and FV keep putting them off. Until they finally got the message that he (FV) did NOT WANT to negotiate a deal for SBU to stay. So when the deadline came and went and still nothing from FV, SBU made the announcement to the media that he was leaving. It took SBU a whole year to tell the truth. Up until then, he made it seem like it was his idea to leave. But this is also why he quickly accepted JFP's offer at YNR. Because FV basically pushed him out of GH.
Wow! Is this for real?
Yep. There is a clip of it somewhere. I didn't even know SK and his wife hosted a show. This was right before it was announced that he was out (again) too at GH. So he really pushed Steve to tell it like it was.

I guess that's what I liked about them. There seemed to be more layers, especially when Labine wrote them. They had trouble trusting each other. They had trouble understanding each other, though they wanted to trust and understand each other, but couldn't. It wasn't a love conquers all thing, they didn't believe and trust everything the other side, it wasn't over romanticized like the 80's couples, but that's why I liked it more because they dealt with relatable things a couple would go through. Sonny wasn't this romantic hero who completely trusted and loved everything Brenda said and visa versa, though they did love each other. It just seems more deep and real.

I really loved all the supercouples - Sonny & Brenda included. And I think the reason I liked early S&B was because they were different. (A little bit like R&H) You couldn't predict what was going to happen. Also, you just knew they were meant to be together. (early on). And MB & VM just had "it". Just like the other supercouples. It's hard to explain. So, I totally get your point.

Unfortunately, the later version of S&B isn't like the earlier version. Same goes for all the supercouples. The later writers just don't seem to have the same investment in the couples like the earlier writers.
