Off the top of my head I can think of several actors who, even playing the same characters, just lost their spark later on.

Robert and Holly
Max and Gabrielle (OLTL)
Duke and Anna
Viki and Clint (OLTL)
Erica and Mike (AMC)
Patch and Kayla (DAYS)
Edmund and Maria (AMC)
Brenda and Sonny
Edmund and Maria could've been because of their real life break up, though I never saw chemistry with them anyway. He was better with Brooke.

Mike seemed like a different character under McTrash's pen, but I still enjoyed them in the 90's when he returned from the dead and rooted for him over her and Jackson. I loved when she locked him on the big dog cage, lol.

Patch and Kayla had no chemistry in the 2006 return.
I'm curious to see how Patch and Kayla work this time around.

Hmm, Jessie and Angie not in the same league as Nina and Cliff ; Greg and Jenny ? I'd say Jessie and Angie passed them by!
I think with the inclusion of their epic reunion (and absolutely GORGEOUS wedding) they definitely did.

I also knew many people back in those days who just adored Angie and Jesse more than anyone else on AMC. But AMC back then was just an embarrassment of riches with couples, even more than GH IMO.
Jesse/Jenny were a special relationship too, and in someways surpassed Jenny/Greg and Jesse/Angie.

I loved how jessie was so protective of Jenny..And cracked up when he called Liza " Dog Face" knowing she was after Greg and all the nasty things she would try to do to Jenny to break them up..He alway's had herback and vice versa..loved their friendship. :biglove

And if I get Robert and Holly having an intimate talk in this setting? OMG! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNSLiGAzDN4&index=7&list=PLDD3EFC7133A6DB2C I'll send both Ron and Frank dozens of roses.

I preferred AMC too, but it's hard to find anywhere to discuss AMC.

Quoting limited to 4 levels deep
How could you see the same effort with Tristan and Emma when they've barely had any screen time together? The last time they were on GH at the same time, the only time they shared screen time was when air-hog Tony Geary was with them. Sorry, I don't think it's a fair comparison.
I don't think Tristan or Emma have played Holly and Robert as being madly in love still in one single scene in any year since they both returned.

That's true and that's because the script never cause for it but I do know in 2006? Per Emma she said, she and Tristan tried to insert something into their scene, even if it wasn't on the page and if it was just a look to show their fans that deep down, they do still loves each other but it was never in the scripts.

Whatever they tried didn't work.

F&F, S&B, R&A, L&L all have lots of scenes where the couple is estranged but the actors still played the obvious love.

I didn't think L&L's chemistry was absent the last go round. It felt muted, they felt very distant, but the chem still brewed beneath.

It reminded me of how they were in the late 90s during their divorcing years.

For R&H, In their very brief alone scene in 2006 & 2012 I saw the love, even if the words coming out their mouths were totally WTF!! It were all in their eyes, body languages. I thinks it work perfectly for the brief time they shared onscreen.
