S&B had passion and sparks where Jax and
Brenda don't. They actually had conversations and discussed things and
their own issues. They were making progress working through those issues
until the writers totally wrecked the storyline. All Jax wants to do is be
a playboy and pamper Brenda to death. He hasn't faced his own flaws. There
is nothing wrong with lush extravagance to a point, but when that is *all* a
couple does, it gets old quick. As far as a basis in reality goes Sonny and
Brenda were far more realistic (except for the mob) than Jax and Brenda will
ever be. I could identify and sympathize with what they went through, while
all J&B do is make me gag.
:bravo:
VM said the same thing. She called Jax a superhero and the J&B relationship a fairytale.

Sonny & Brenda's chemistry was far superior to that of Robert & Anna and/or Robert & Holly. Sonny and Brenda had tension filled heat while Robert with Anna/Holly was lukewarm at best.
Eh, Robert and Anna HAS INCREDIBLE CHEMISTRY iN all area and not just in romances which make their chemistry exceptional and just for the sake of the argument? I do believe that Sonny and Brenda done a similar scene that Robert/Anna done years early. Almost the very same scene.. Both couple shared Danger, passion and love.

the sonny + brenda stuff was amazing. guza wrote this stuff?
Claire Labine.

Guza didn't write any stuff with S&B together, as a couple, tell 2011. See how that turned out.

The dark years for me where the aforementioned Monty's Revenge (1988-92, roughly) and the Guza's Reign of Terrible (approx 2002-08).

The Claire Lachrymose years were actually my second favorite period of the show. I thought the characters were all well drawn and true to themselves, the plots were realistic and moving, the dialogue was smart, and she ushered in a ton of great new people. I guess my all time fave time was 1981-1987, but a lot of that was also nostalgia and through the eyes of a kid. I never like the Ice Princess story and most people loved it, it seems.

With Sonny Brenda was interesting and sometimes had a brain in her
head. They discussed and argued and had fun. Not like with she and
Jax, who do nothing but coo over each other, have sex, and eat.

For pure heat and passion? The only GH couple that came close was L&L. The other super couples were great in their own right, but none of them were anywhere near as hot as S&B and first phase L&L.

No, that was Claire Labine.
Really? So why did Geary trip on Labine? She did give his behind some adventure. This clip is proof of that..Geary just probably wanted a lot of adventure story and Labine wasn't gonna catered to his selfish, self centerred behind.
Puerto Rico adventure was part of Geary and his writing partner's original pitch to the network for Luke and Laura. It covered the return and the killing of Frank Smith.

Claire hated doing adventure. She never pitched a single adventure story to the network. All the adventure story with Luke, Laura and S&B being added later. Original treatment was a L&L remote but Genie was left out because she got pregnant.

Yep, that's why I appreciate all the great couples of the past because I know it will never be that way again. Each one of them made a name for themselves by earning it from the fans.
Love this post! There is a reason people call them (L&L, R&H, F&F, D&A and S&B) the five supercouples. I'll even give R&A an honorable mention here. They earned it. There is a reason for it. So, while some of these couples may not to people's tastes, to say that they weren't popular or didn't have chemistry is totally untrue. They all had it in spades.
Yea, all those pairs were good once upon of time but it's unfair to blame the writers if some don't have it anymore or some other agenda is ruining a potential coupling.

Personally, I don't think we'd ever see a onscreen L&L anymore. Geary won't allow it. Tony purposely tanked it the last time, they tried to do it against his wishes and all he shown was indifference. Duke and Anna doesn't work and he's being let go because of it. however, I see Donny and Marie when I see them DnA now.

FnF and Robert & Holly/Anna are the only 3 couple they can still work with and that's all up to RC and actors availability.

Once Geary gives his notice, or the show is cancelled, a L&L reunion is basically a guarantee. Once it's clear he's on the way out for good, or the show is, it's a no brainer.

And he'll play it just fine I'm sure. I think he played it right last time, tbh. Luke is disconnected from Laura. I don't know why people act like Luke was suppose to be shown as madly in love.

I didn't like all the boo-hoo stories: BJ dies in bus crash, Maxie gets BJ's heart, Robin diagnosed with AIDS, Monica is with Breast Cancer, Elizabeth is raped, Sonny/Brenda, the Carly/AJ/Michael drama, yaddi-yadda. On top of being incredibly boring, those years would send anyone running straight for the antidepressants.

I started liking GH again when everybody else started hating it; right after Lucky died, Faison returned, and the Endgame plot with the Cassadines kicked off.

As I've admitted before, I'm just not a good soap audience member, because I'll gladly trade what passes in soaps as character development & character-driven plots for a fun, hammy action/adventure story any day of the week.
Lucky died and Faison returned in 1999. Endgame didn't kick off til 2001. Two totally different writers too. Endgame was AWFUL, the other stuff was decent.
