Summer 1992 SOD Supercouples Special

“What’s it really like to be part of a supercouple?”

Emma Samms –

“Ours was an amazing story; GH did not plan on putting Holly with Robert. When Luke came back from the dead, Holly was expected to return to him. But because the chemistry was so good between Tristan and me, according to the audience, they decided to keep me with him. I wasn’t aware of supercouples. All I knew was that I loved working with Tristan. I think I really knew we were part of a supercouple, when on Robert and Holly’s wedding anniversary, we received more than 50 bouquets of flowers.

Being called a supercouple was very flattering. It meant that the relationship that Tristan and I portrayed was believable and popular. That was because of the wonderful familiarity we felt and that the audience observed. It was very real, and of course it did turn out that there were many things that Holly and Robert had in common with Emma and Tristan. I think the audience knew that before we did. It was just spending so much time together; we had kissed a hundred times, but the first kiss was still as momentous as one would hope.

I never got tired of Robert and Holly. We were determined to be something very unusual in soap operadom, which was a happy, yet interesting couple; we discussed it. The other thing was, we added a lot of seemingly insignificant moments to the scenes that weren’t written in that helped us look happy even when we were supposedly going through dramas. There was a scene in the sauna that was supposed to be very romantic; he was supposed to open champagne, which was supposed to gush onto my shoulder for him to lick off. Well, that was easier said than done. The champagne would not gush out; it would just fizzle. After three takes, we were getting frustrated, so, on the fourth take, in the middle of a romantic scene, Tristan started shaking the bottle. Of course, I said, ‘What are you doing?’ and from then on, it was adlibbed. When he opened the champagne it went completely in my face, which burned, but I started laughing. I laughed so much that it became a funny scene, not a romantic one. And they kept the whole thing.

Both Tristan and I have very, very pleasant memories of working together; it’s something you so rarely find, someone who is so matched to you professionally, and who you can laugh with and still get the work done.”
;smile Thanks a bunch. ;smile Hope it's ok for me to share it.
Of course. It's fun to read these interviews years later. Emma always seemed very classy to me.

Yea, she's classy but so is TR where R&H were concerned..They both have shown super support for the pairing in the past.....I think what really got me about Emma's article is that It's pretty much, no different than anything that TR have said through out the years, 80s, 90s, and even in the 00s about R&H. They both had the same mindset about their most cherish pairing. My opinion....Which is why I couldn't ever hold anything that was done to R&H from various writers against the actors...

I feel very fortunate to have had these two actors as stars of my favorite pairing. When I see how some other actors of popular coupling carry on, they could careless about their couple or it fans JMO.

I know E&T would have tried their darndest to give their loyal fans something to enjoy. But it weren't their call. They had no influence. In the end, they had to do what they were paid to do ACT!!

Even in 2006, we know that Tristan & Emma tried to convey that Robert & Holly still loved each other and were still in love. They couldn't change a word of the dialogue, but they did their best to express it nonverbally... After all those years- they still did their best to give fans something- even if tiic didn't want to do it.

We were really, very lucky, not only were R&H such a fab couple but so were the actors in our pairing. They didn't have to do that in 06..And some people's wonder why some of us still show support or quick to defend them..Well there ya go..That's why....Tristan Rogers and Emma Samms will always have my support in any and everything they do...I don't care if they're right or wrong they'll always have my support.

I agree! We really lucked out to have actors so dedicated to their coupling and fans, the way Tristan and Emma have been! :c:

As far as i am concerned, they deserve all the support over the years!

Watching old episodes. The actress who played Cheryl is really annoying and does Tanya remind anyone else of Rebecca Budig?
I didn't think so. You must know her must know her personally to make that kind of statement.
No, I don't know her. Haven't you ever had certain actors/actresses that get on your nerves due to their mere presence onscreen? For me it's 80% actor and 20% character.

IA with this. When you see an actor on screen every day for years and years, it's obvious that a lot of the actor is in the character. That's why it's so important in daytime for the actor to be "tolerable" onscreen. I don't think they have to be gorgeous but I do think you need to be able to look at them everyday. On the other hand, some gorgeous actors can't act or are just not fun to watch. It's a tricky combination. I do think Mark Teschner has done an outstanding job casting for GH through the years. And of course, Gloria Monty before him. And I think you have to have the "certain something" to stand out in daytime. And lastly, not every character is going to connect with every viewer. Even the most popular actor in daytime is going to have it's detractors.

I hope GW/GH bring Anna back for a visit. Anyone know what Finola's doing these days? It's like she has drop out of sight.

I don't think that "certain something" has anything to do with looks. It's charisma. Even a plain or ordinary looking actor/actress can have that and people will still want to watch them.
