My favorite couples from the 80s were Robert and Holly, Luke and Laura, Duke and Anna, Rick and Lesley, Alan and Monica, Scotty and Heather, Jake and Bobbie.

I livened up a rather dull Friday night watching some of the Prometheus Disk storyline again on youtube. Such a wonderfully integrated storyline. I think just about everyone in the cast had something to do. GH and soaps in general seem to have such difficulty in doing that successfully anymore.
Another storyline that used the whole cast was Who Killed Susan Baldwin? (Jason's mama) 1983 was a good year for GH
Too bad it went down when Luke left! It sorta got a little better with the introduction of Anna and Sean but it still wasn't the same without him.
I didn't think it went down at all without Luke. Quite the opposite, The Susan Moore murder mystery was a fabulous story and Luke wasn't around for it. Of Course Tony was just on vacation, but If anything else, the SMM story proved that the show could go on without Luke's presence and it did. Sean wasn't so bad. He was a joy to watched with Robert and Anna. And the 4some of Robert/Anna/Sean/Frisco was excellent tv viewing. I agree Susan Moore was a good story. I was more talking about after he left at the end of 1983. 1984 was pretty uneventful until the Aztec Treasure story was introduced. The main stories I remember from there were the return of Grant Putnum and the murder of Jimmy Lee's mom dealing with some spa, I think. I just remember those being lackluster.

The Beatrice murder mystery was one of my favorites. I thought 1984 had a lot of great stuff.

Still, even after he left in late 83, the show was still good and had some good story lines to choose from...I thought the double Grants story was too long and boring, and I didn't, but some people liked it. The only interesting aspect IMHO was the end, when Robert and Celia put the pieces together and he rescued her from the psycho. I celebrated when it finally ended. Then, the Beatrice Murder mystery was another excellent murder mystery as was the D.L Brock murder. The short story arc such as the rescuing of the Porchenko and Petros Cassadine visited port Charles were great stories too. I can't honestly say that after L&L left in 83 I didn't missed them all that much because the show was still good and left in good hands.

Gloria Monty always seemed to have a couple in place to pick up the slack when a signature couple left.

Interesting - I just found this thread but there is another oldtimers thread under the GH section. I wonder which one we are supposed to use. I guess it doesn't matter. The more the merrier.
That one is just one thread, though. This is a whole forum where we can make separate thread topics. I vote for this one. That sounds good to me!

I think the thing I miss the most about the old days (not including love and romance) is the balance of the show. The show back in the 80s didn't revolve around just 3 characters - other characters had stories and POVs as well. You didn't necessarily know that your favorite character would always win although you might know that the good guys would win in the end. I miss good characters that were interesting and didn't have to be a mobster or a whore to get airtime.

Genie Francis was just on access Hollywood. The showed a clip of L&L wedding(81) and a clip of an episode of Y&R of Genevieve and Colin. Genie love being the villian and playing the bad girl.
