Let me jump in here.
Mac was no lead. But I did watch all of GH back in the 90's and I can definitely say he wasn't background dressing. I get that some people in here hate Mac Scorpio, I'm no big fan myself, but I don't think it does any good to lie and mislead about characters airtimes.
Lets not create drama where there isn't any. First of all: Hate was ever used. How can you hate a character like Mac? So please Second of all nobody is lying in here. He was not lead (stated), did not drive story (stated), there has never been a story that was solely about him only, except his intro and even then it was shared and more about Robert. There is nothing wrong with supporting characters. This all started with the discussion of GM trying to have Mac be a lead with the departures mostly of Frisco and Mac. However THAT failed, period the end. So unless someone can actually state a story that was Mac-centered, this argument is over.
Actually this leg of the argument started when some fool said that no headwriter has been interested in writing for Mac. Considering how used Mac was during his first 10 years on the show, which was a lot, this is false. Nobody ever said he was a lead, drove story or replaced Robert. Not one person. That's called a straw man. The person who swore that no headwriter has been interested in writing for Mac, when a decade of material was written for Mac, and JJY has been on contract for the majority of 20 years, is an idiot who probably didn't even watch the show during most of Mac's years. End of story.
To be fair though, the definition of: No HW writing for him can be interpreted 2 ways: Lead story or supporting and I think both arguments have been presented. He was definitely never a lead, but he was supporting. To last 20+ years is saying something. But I think the saddest part of this whole history is RIGHT NOW. JJY has been reduced to recurring, and right now is when he has been used the least in those 20+ years. I feel bad for the actor, I hope he planned well. Look at Anna, someone is posting episode counts from 1995 for Mac. FH has huge episodes counts from 2014, but holy crap most of those episodes she was on for like 5 minutes. The same could be said for JJY back then and since 1992.
Nah, under CL airtime didn't really work that way. None of those people in the top 20's episode counts are misleading. ALL of them had substantial airtime along with their episode counts.
CL and her team were damn good at spreading the wealth. IT's nothing like now.

Mac was in a ton of story in 95, I remember.
He had the romance with Katherine (which had a lot of airtime) that got play thanks to the involvement with Damien Smith and Mac trying to protect her (front burner story), was very heavily involved in Robin/Stone story, played a major role in the Brenda/Sonny wire story and that was the year he had PI stuff too. It was also the silly, classic comedy yarn with Kevin and Mac playing women. Mac was everywhere that year. I actually think, now that we're discussing it, it was MAc's best year. So Mac got a reprieve in 1995, I don't feel so bad now. It is funny though that it took a village to remember!

I think the fact that this is even an argument proves the point somebody was making a few pages ago. A lot of the people making negative claims about Mac Scorpio's place on the show during the 1990s really didn't watch most of the show. Even the ones now arguing that he might have had high counts but low airtime obviously did not watch.
Mac was on a ton, used a ton, and was one of the most seen characters on GH back then.

You should probably give it up. Because that list destroys every single argument you chicks were screeching about. He's got more episodes than both Stone and Robin, and he and Felicia weren't together for long in 95. And he's got more episodes than her. This is a classic bitch slap moment. Bravo to however made that list!
KW gave birth in December 1994 and was on maternity leave for some of 1995. When she came back, she got paired for some non-stories with Matthew Ashford. But I honestly don't remember what else Mac was involved in other than Robin and Stone. Not saying they didn't write something for him, but someone's gonna have to remind me what they were having him do in all those episodes. I can't recall anything but being there for Robin and stones Story

Heavily involved in stories that center other characters is still supporting. You have NOT proved your argument. His relationship with Katherine was an afterthought to the Damien Smith story because that centered around, guess WHO, Luke. He and Kevin were supporting characters. Even Katherine being accused of Damien's murder was about HER,not Mac

It's not so much that nobody watched, it's just that few (apart from Mac fans understandably) remember his stuff so how much investment could there have been really.

I don't recall a lot of Monica/Alan's stories from the 80s. I have like no memory of Katherine and Robert's romance. Actually a ton of of airhogs from the late 80s like Cheryl and Julian I just blocked right out apparently.
Does that mean because I don't remember them, and a ton of other stuff, it didn't happen? Why would MY memory failings, or my lack of interest in some stories, mean that they didn't happen or weren't important to somebody at the time?
