I think the fact that this is even an argument proves the point somebody was making a few pages ago. A lot of the people making negative claims about Mac Scorpio's place on the show during the 1990s really didn't watch most of the show. Even the ones now arguing that he might have had high counts but low airtime obviously did not watch.
Mac was on a ton, used a ton, and was one of the most seen characters on GH back then.
It's not so much that nobody watched, it's just that few (apart from Mac fans understandably) remember his stuff so how much investment could there have been really.
I have watched this show, since 1980. Mac has always been supporting, never story-centric, not since he was introduced in 1991. He was always the good guy and was for a long time probably the only decent guy on the show. But as you all know decent, honorable characters were kicked to the curb in 1993 and always have been since then. Mac was never a lead and never had a story centered on him since his intro. That is fact. So I don't know what we are debating here.
This too is incorrect. The Mac/James Meadow story, written by Guza of all people, was a Mac centric story. And that was the most stupid forgettable story I ever witness and I watch that ridiculous shit. That was no difference Fake Faison but only without the mask and that Fake story was better written. Mac was held by the lady (her name escaped me) and Jimmy was someone she work with who happened to looks exactly like dufus Mac but only Jimmy was a real dufus.

Not the OP, I'm the one who first corrected the person pages ago who said no headwriter was interested in writing for Mac after his introduction and material with Robert. Obviously that person was dead wrong. I never made any arguments that you and others brought into it. I said I would NOT participate in your petty goalpost moving, where you set up an argument and claim I made it. I'm too old for that nonsense, and frankly you should be too. My point has been proven. Mac was written for a lot, YEARS after his intro.
Nice try. The goal post was already established. GM tried to make Mac a lead and it FAILED. He was never a lead, EVER. So spare us your "above all this" mantra.
What a petty, nasty woman you are. Good God you need to get some help. No its quite obvious you are the one that needs help.

Mac failed in the "Frisco position". Failed. No head writer was ever interested in writing for him ever again.
This was the point of contention. Did Mac "fail" in the Frisco position? Yes. Was it true that no headwriter was "ever interested in writing for him ever again"? No A 10+ page debate over jack shit. Welcome to DD. I know I just don't get this argument at all. Mac is supporting, he failed as a lead. JJ Y is a nice guy can remove on now

Well there's a story that few remember, I've not seen that referenced in all the years I've been reading soap boards. I'll have to look that up. Most people will just remember it as the time Mac got an evil twin.
For those who missed a lot of the 90s after the adventure crew left, yeah Mac was on a lot. Most of his stories involved being the good guy who rescued damsels in distress. That plus his romance with Felicia and his fatherly role, soaked up most of Mac's airtime. That's how Mac ended up as the police commissioner, from his good guy days.
After Mac lost Felicia to Luke Guza and subsequent headwriters pretty much knocked him further and further down on the food chain. Tony, Mac, Alan, Monica, Felicia, and Bobbie all started to get phased into the background within a couple years of each other.
Basically it was when Jill Phelps arrived.

I didn't like that story either.
But it disproves those who said that Mac didn't lead any stories after his introduction. He was in the lead in a couple of stories and the James Meadows one was all Mac. It was the last Mac-lead story actually. The last major story Mac did was the quad with Luke, Laura and Felicia.

Luke(TG), Ugh is the bane of every characters existence on this show. I was so mad when TR left that they forced ES and TG together again (which was a major fail). I really thought JJY and ES had really good chemistry and I think could have been good.

Mac in the 90s was the same as Bobbie in the 90s.
Two heavily supporting characters who, from time to time, were leading players in front burner stories. Same status as Felicia had.

Luke was the bane of EVERY character's existence? Really?

Many of the people who post in the Vet/Old Times section will admit that they didn't even watch GH after Anna, Holly and Robert were all gone. Let me ask you this, how much in depth story can the posters here remember about Jax, Sonny, Ned, or Carly's stories from the 90s or later? How many people here can recount the intimate details of Timora? Tin Man? The battle for ELQ? The story with Jax and V? Jason and Robin's romance? It was lots of characters/storylines in the 80s and early 90s that I couldn't tell you a damn about, or give any update indepth or any of that and I watched GH religiously(meaning every single day & wished away my weekend for Monday to get here again) Jax? Brenda? Carly? weren't favorite of mine maybe they were yours by they weren't mine so why would some of us care about them?

I think it's debatable whether or not any head writer was interested in writing for the Mac Scorpio character. Just depends on what you mean by "writing for" I guess.
In relative terms, I think the character has always gotten the short end of the stick.
