 I haven't liked one of theses newbies from the other soaps and FF all of them I think my Gh day's may be behind me if all i got to look forward to is nonstop newbies taking over the show :sigh
All the most popular characters in this thread were all newbies who took over the show, more than the newbies now do, so I guess this is karma?

Didn't none of us give a damn about all the young newbies flooding GH back in the 1980s and almost all of the GH vets getting dumped by Gloria. We don't have a leg to stand on.
Well i could only go by when i started watching Gh in 81 and I still remember seeing Steve & audrey and Lee & Gail and jessie at the nurses station for years so IDA.
Gail wasn't a vet in 81.

Eileen Davidson was THE star of DAYS for years, and a proven ratings grabber. Her getting offered only 10 days when she wanted more reeks of the Genie Francis/Jack Wagner/Tristan Rogers scenarios.

If you started in 81 you don't know anything about classic, pre-Monty GH. So you excepted GH's vet purge.

Gail was NOT a vet back then. She was an aged newbie hire, just like Lila and Edward, who people like you mistook for long term vet talent.

By the mid 80s the only real GH vets left were Steve, Audrey, Lee and Jessie. And they all her their stories strip down, airtime cut severly, and became mostly handholders for their kids and scene fillers. There were less vets, on less often in total, under Monty than there are by far under Valentini.
IDA Steve & Audrey and Jessie were still shown more by GM ,I think i can count on by hands the amout of times RC has used KW, KS, LH, over the last few years ..

I don't think the ratings support your argument that nobody gave a damn about the young newbies back in the 80s.

I was a grade school kid watching GH in the 80s. But nobody does that now, tv viewership just doesn't work the same way.

They're not going to attract a new audience, all they're doing is alienating the long-timers many of whom were kids during the heyday and still in the target demo.

Sadly I think those day's are gone for good They don't want to spend the money for them anymore

I always thought it was sad how sidelined Jessie became in the 80s. Emily McLaughlin was still in her 40s when she got pushed to the side. She was years younger than Maurice Benard is now.

Honestly I thought if the newbies were introduced better and wrote for better, and the writing better in general, then the outcry for the classic vets wouldn't be as much. It's just that GH got so monotonous in the 2000s and still tedious now, just a different kind of tedious and many people associate the classic vets with better times and are already invested because of that.
