Take a look at how many vets were left on GH, and their episode counts, by the time Gloria was finished changing the show:
FLASHBACK: 1988 Episode Counts
Hello all – for some fun and nostalgia here are the episode counts for 1988, compiled through viewings. This was the year Anna was captured by Grant Putnam and lost her baby with Duke; Sean and Tiffany were married; Duke infiltrated the Jerome mob and was pursued by an obsessed Olivia; Julian faked his death for the first time; Tom and Simone had daytime’s first interracial marriage; Tony and Lucy divorced; Monica had an affair with Ned; and Felicia searched for Frisco’s killer.
This was the year we were introduced to Julian and Olivia Jerome, Colton Shore, Lord Larry and Lady Arielle Ashton, Harrison Davis, and Katherine Delafield; and the year GH lost Jake Meyer, Patrick O’Connor, Grant Putnam, and Filomena Soltini.
Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as I did!! I hope to have 1989 finished before the end of the year.
General Hospital Number of Episodes in 1988: 257
9. Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin) – 132 20. John Beradino (Dr. Steve Hardy) – 88 31.Rachel Ames (Audrey Hardy) – 57 37. Emily McLaughlin (Jessie Brewer) – 37
Kin had just returned in 1988, so he'll doing pretty good.
JB got more in one year than KW has gotten in almost 3 under RC
Yet overall vet episode appearances:
1988: 314 Episodes 2013: 821 Episodes

Veteran characters dominate a ton of GH today. The majority even.
They just aren't mostly the veteran characters that are popular in the Vet thread.

Quoting limited to 4 levels deep
but that doesn't amount to much for the year except FH and she has a contract
That's a hell of a lot more than they were getting prior to this regime. Those are decent numbers in today's climate IMO.
Absolutely. There is no doubt that RC has used probably all the vets from the 80s, I think the only one missing is Tiffany and thats because of the actresses health. I guess people are more upset with how he used them in some cases. I personally take the beggars can't be choosy road.
Things for classic era GHers got REALLY rough under Frons, Jill and Guza. REALLY REALLY. I know the 80s are long passed. My faves are grandparents now, just like Steve and Audrey became when I was young. So I get it. I'm just glad we're getting as many vets as we do, including some from the 90s that I do count as vets.

Well i could only go by when i started watching Gh in 81 and I still remember seeing Steve & audrey and Lee & Gail and jessie at the nurses station for years so IDA.
If you started in 81 you don't know anything about classic, pre-Monty GH. So you excepted GH's vet purge. Gail was NOT a vet back then. She was an aged newbie hire, just like Lila and Edward, who people like you mistook for long term vet talent. By the mid 80s the only real GH vets left were Steve, Audrey, Lee and Jessie. And they all her their stories strip down, airtime cut severly, and became mostly handholders for their kids and scene fillers. There were less vets, on less often in total, under Monty than there are by far under Valentini.
IDA Steve & Audrey and Jessie were still shown more by GM ,I think i can count on by hands the amout of times RC has used KW, KS, LH, over the last few years .. They were shown, but they didn't do much of anything. Jessie probably had a few lines, if any, when we saw her. "bobbe you're wanted in the er" or something like that. Yes, they were seen and no stories.

Even RA and EM got a decent amount for the year I see their point though.
Much smaller pool of vets than today being utilized. We are seeing a lot more vets now than we did then. Just I know back then, and I feel kinda guilty admitting this, I didn't really care all that much about the old vets. I didn't really pay them much attention I guess.

But it looks like the old vets in the 80's got more then, that what RC's giving them now... except for guz'a years he just brought them back to destroy This is not true at all. Pound for pound vets?
Luke, Sonny, Anna, and Tracy alone have far more story impact now than Steve, Audrey, Jesse and Lee.
And they're on a lot more.
And that doesn't even count the rest of the vets in the comparison.

In some cases bringing back the vet became more of a detriment to the character than a positive. Everybody suffers from bad storytelling. If I can't get good writing, I'd rather my faves stay away.

Still a vet. Anna, Alexis, Carly, Luke, Tracy, Sonny, Liz, all vets. You don't have to like them, or want them, but to say that GH doesn't give tons of airtime to it's vets is wrong.
The OP specifically referenced KW, KS, LH as the ones whose usage could be counted on one hand (yes, a hyperbole).
A hyperbole that actually makes no sense when you consider how much they've actually been on. Not as much as we want, but nowhere the blink-and-miss level people constantly whine about here. it's quite obvious a lot of people here don't actually watch the show they complain about...
