Okay, so playtesting has produced freaks of probability like multiple characters that have stats up around 18 or 19. Including one character who has 18 in three separate stats. What are some ways you think base stat generation can be altered? One person suggested 1d10 + 5, which would generate stats between 6 and 15. That combined with a ban against purchasing stat points during character generation and perhaps an increased price for buying stats with character points earned between sessions could curb some of this ridiculousness. |

Yeah, I had to roll 3 times to get a non-insane character. The first one being an 18 18 17 16 and the other being a 20 19 13 11 |

Having used the 10+5 method, I can say it will generally produce better characters all around than the other one, with much less discrepancy between characters. There's still a chance for someone to roll all 6s and someone to roll all 15s, but on the whole, the distribution seems much more under control. From the very small sample we've seen, it looks like people tend to have one great stat, one bad stat, and then the rest of average quality. |
