Since Carolyn told Rodolphus that she was a teacher here at Hogwarts he had seem much more of her than in the past years. He now saw her almost on a daily basis. In the Great Hall, in the staff room, in her classroom, in his classroom, in her office, in his office, in the hallways... everywhere. Not that that was a bad thing. He did love her and he didn't care who knew. Not that there wasn't anyone around that didn't know. They had been together for four years now.

Tonight he knew she was on hall patrol for the first time and decided to play a little game with her. If all went as planned, as it usually did for Rodolphus, this would eventually end up with him introducing a little more pain into their physical relationship... which he very much missed from when he was with Bellatrix. But right now he had to set the stage. Transforming into his panther form he crept silently along the side of the stone wall to where he knew Carolyn would start her evening patrol. It was where the teachers usually started, on the ground floor. It was the younger, more inexperienced students that would be caught here. They would sneak out of their dorms and go directly to the exits of the school to get outside. It was very predictable and the teachers let the young ones attempt to get outside just to teach them a lesson. Sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. It depended on the student. Though tonight seemed quite quiet and that was good for Rodolphus' plans.

Sitting very quietly and very low to the ground Rodolphus waited in the shadows patiently for his 'prey' to arrive. It wasn't long before he heard light footsteps and his feline ears turned in the direction of the sound. Then there was a shadow, one he recognized easily.

Carolyn knew Rodolphus could change into a black panther, he had shown her on a number of occasions. But Rodolphus had never done anything like this to her. Technically he's never had the chance to... but now he does.

Patrol duty. One of the parts of being a professor that she didn't like. She didn't want to be walking around the hallways for several hours. It was boring, it was dull and she could be writing! Two books wasn't enough for her. She had a third one about Pureblood culture started as well as a first attempt at a fiction novel. Not to mention that she had plenty of books to read and on nights when she was snug in her quarters, often Rodolphus would come by, at least for a little while. Tonight, she had resigned herself to being bored and dull and not writing and not seeing Rodolphus. Now that she could see him everyday, she was not looking forward to the day when school would be over and she'd have to go back to their old schedule. However, she had a whole school year stretched out ahead of her, so why dwell on what might be next summer?

She sighed softly as she hopped down the last few stairs. At least it wasn't too cold in the stone hallways yet. Carolyn had kept on her teacher's robes, but underneath had changed out of her normal uniform outfit. Instead she was wearing a darker blue shirt and pants outfit that was much more flattering to her figure. Just because she was a Professor, didn't mean she had to wear ugly clothes! Her hair she had left down, but had a matchin ribbon around her head like a headband to keep it off of her face.

Carolyn started down her appointed hallways, half considering hexing any student she saw. She didn't want to be here and they were making her be here. A little hex wouldn't hurt them, right? And it would certainly teach them not to get out of bed after curfew! She paused in her mental torture of the students when she heard a soft sound. Was that someone out of bed? She lit her wand and continued down the hall. One of the problems with these stone walls is that sound echoed, so she couldn't tell if the sound was coming from.

Rodolphus stayed perfectly still as he watched his prey for a few seconds the began to move slowly, still in his crouched position. The moment she stopped, he stopped. He didn't want to give away his position just yet and with her wand lit he'd have to stay a little further back than he wanted to. But it wasn't a huge problem, his feline eyes adjusted easily to the pinpoint of light. How he wished his human eyes were this good at night!

As Carolyn continued down her hallways, turning one corner then another Rodolphus could smell her as a slight breeze traveled down the hallway. As a human he could recognize her scent, but as an animal, a cat, her scent was that much more intense... and he loved it. When she reached a four way junction he decided to test her nerve. It wasn't difficult to find a small stone on the floor particularly on the main floor, and with his paw curled he scooped it up and threw it up and straight, clearing her head easily. Thank Merlin the ceilings were high. Hopefully he didn't throw the stone too far in front of her.

Quickly after lobbing the small stone Rodolphus crouched down as far as he could and snuggled into the wall as much as he could. His ears laid back against his head and his tail had stopped swaying. He was perfectly still. Even his eyes stayed focused on his prey.

Now, this wasn't the first time Rodolphus had played little games like this with Carolyn, it just happened to be the first time in the school and with him in his animagus form. The other times were just in Lestrange Manor where it wasn't nearly as spooky as the school at night... at least Rodolphus didn't think so. The little game was particularly humorous the first few months Carolyn stayed at Lestrange Manor. She didn't know the layout of the place and it was easy for Rodolphus to sneak up on her or surprise her from around a corner.

Bored, bored, bored. No one was up tonight. No one was in these halls and yet here she was and here she would stay. She turned another corner and wondered if she could turn on some music or put on a little magic light show to keep her occupied. She was going to fall asleep on her feet as she walked. The pictures on the walls were either boring or asleep themselves. Why couldn't they just put wards around the school at night to keep the dumb students in the building and let the tired professors get some rest? It made all the sense in the world to her, so why wouldn't it have occured to anyone else? Her fellow Professors were smart enough, so why hadn't they thought about it? Maybe this teaching thing was frying her brain. She turned the corner and started down another hallway. Had she already gone down this hall? No, she didn't think so.

Carolyn started to daydream as she walked down this new path. This weekend was a Qudditch weekend...Slytherin vs. Ravenclaw. She and Rodolphus always had the best times during those matches, playfully sparring personally to mimick their house teams. She would have to start planning her strategy or Rodolphus would win. Slytherins were naturally crafty people, so she had to think faster and harder to have any chance of matching him. She could decorate his office in Ravenclaw colors. That might be fun. Hmmm, what else? It had to be something good. OH! She had a new blue dress that Rodolphus hadn't seen her in. It was perfect in color and was so revealing. Yes, that was a good start. With matching lipstick and eyeshadow....

She whirled as some sound startled out of her daydreams. Carolyn flashed her wand around, trying to see in the dark. Who was out there? A student? One of the ghosts? She didn't see anything. She turned around and studied the way she had come. No one....where had that sound come from. She shivered and turned back to the hallway, walking again. She was being silly but now she felt like someone was watching her. That was impossible. She would have seen them.

This was just too much fun for Rodolphus, he didn't want to stop! Though cats can't laugh he was doing all he could from making any noises and staying perfectly still. Of course he couldn't keep this up all night, eventually Carolyn would finish her rounds and go back to her quarters... and he didn't want that. He wanted her to go back to his quarters, so that meant he'd have to show himself eventually.

As Carolyn continued to walk, Rodolphus once again followed her silently. Padded paws. He loved them. But this time he walked a little closer behind her and began to growl in a very low tone, almost mute. He watched her closely as her hips swayed ever so gently from one side to the other with each step. The light from her wand silhouetted her beautifully, it gave her an etherial glow... not that he didn't see her that way in normal daylight. As fun as it was stalking her this way and as gorgeous as she looked, Rodolphus knew it was time to get on with this little... game. He was becoming a little too stimulated and wanted to get her into his bed. Though he knew he would have to react quickly as he knew Carolyn's speed with a wand, and he had no desire to get stunned... or worse.

He padded a little closer to her, still growling almost silently, then when he was ready he extended the claws in his front paws.
