Officials in sports

Lately in a few sports i've been watching, i'm seeing bullshit hit new levels.

For instance those of you that watch American Football should know exactly what i'm talking about.
The NFL officials have gone on strike demanding more dough, a lot more then they deserve. Because the sum of money is so high the NFL isn't giving in. Instead they put in college officials to Ref the games. People use to complain like there's no tomorrow with the old ref's but now with the college ones. You die inside each time you watch a game. It has become a lame joke. You can play your ass off and lose to bullshit. College ref's aren't qualified for the job. The mistakes they are making are costing teams games.

Now in another sport - Futbol or as Americans call it; Soccer

Lately i've seen calls being made which are hitting a new level of retard. Whether it's offsides or fouls or whatnot. Calls being made are completely unreasonable. In the history of the sport such calls have cost championships. Youtube the top ten worst calls ever made if you don't know what i'm talking about.

What i want to discuss and talk about on this topic is the following:

Do you think officials have too much control over games?
Should officials have that much control in any sport whatsoever?
How much do they deserve to get paid?(this also depends on what sport)
If an official is a fan of a team that is playing should he be allowed to work in a match they are playing in?

Keep in mind
They are only human. They are obviously not perfect so don't expect them to be.

Do you think officials have too much control over games? They can control the results, I honestly have a suspicion that UEFA helps Barcelona (and other huge teams) just because they are the 'face' of European football. In other games I think officials are fair.
Should officials have that much control in any sport whatsoever? Yes, but there should be a referal system. Like Tennis.
How much do they deserve to get paid?(this also depends on what sport) I don't know how much they're paid now but I guess it should be award based.
If an official is a fan of a team that is playing should he be allowed to work in a match they are playing in? No.

Well the NFL has given into the officials demands and have agreed to pay them a lot more.

This goes to show how important they are. Hell they just got a huge raise because they are needed. Because they are a must in sports and that their job must be done properly or it would kill the sport.

i dont think referees need to get payed better.

all referees in the bundesligen (basketball/ football/ handball) doing refereeing in their freetime/ as parttime job and yes they do mistakes, but no they rarely did such mistakes that teams can say "we lost because of the referee and his/her retarded descision". Its always easy to say that the ref did a bad job, but arent player supposed to do fairplay.
i mean in every single uefa game there are tons of banners saying "fairplay is my play". its easy to say such stuff, most player dont do it simply because they are douches and want to win, no matter what. (mostly they do the opposide; calling for cards like nearly all spanish keyplayer do (i.e. iniesta) isnt fairplay aswell, its a lack of respect!)

funny sidenote about fairplay and wrong descision of a referee: this weekend ssc neapel played lazio roma and at 0:0 klose made a goal with his hand, the referee didnt see the breach of rules and gave the goal for lazio. klose straightly went after the referee and told him he used his hand to get the goal. the goal was undone and lazio even lost 3:0. but klose is THE fairplayer in italy right now.

also about somes suspicion that uefa helps barca and other big teams, i cant agree with that. uefa has a real hard selection system, after every game they judge the refs descision, the better they are the higher the possibility for him and his assistants to get other games.
howard webb had to leave the european championship 2008 after a missjudged game between poland and swiss and he is definitly the best in the world

Well I can only speak on the replacement refs for football. They are horrendous. They are literally terrible. The NFL actually has a few refs from the lingerie football league. What. The. Fuck.

Lmao this game was the kicker. It was the thing that really crossed the line and made the old ref's comeback

Thing is ref's can't be paid off to cheat the games the system where as that wouldnt work with players. Players have loyalty whereas officials are a bunch of cunts begging for paper

Noir:

In every champions league Barcelona have had a helping hand from refs in situations where it looks like they wont win. Even in La Liga it happens. And the frequency of this is too often for it to be a coincidence. Sometimes a decision goes against them which I believe is an honest mistake, but more often than not every game where they seem close to a loss they get help from the refs. It's no secret that Michel Platini admires Barcelona.

Examples are, these are the ones I can think of and I don't watch many Barcelona games , but I do watch all Champions League and their games against Real Madrid and Valencia.

2009, Chelsea v Barcelona Champions League Semi Final:
First leg was 0-0, this game ended in 1-1 after 5 chelsea claims for penalty which the referee didn't give, I can't describe but see highlights if you want to, not only that but it was a comedy of errors from the ref. I think everyone remembers this game with Iniesta levelling the score in 90+ minutes. This was the game where Ballack went crazy.

2010, they lost to Inter, but in that game and the others building up to it, Dani Alves, Busquets, Pique and some others dived and to the point even the Barcelona fans were laughing at them. In other games this is cautioned or carded, nothing happened in this. Inter still won because at that moment it was a very good team that did the right things to stop Barcelona from winning.

2011, Arsenal beat Barcelona 2-1 at home, in the away fixture van Persie was sent off when he kicked the ball away. It looked like a shot on goal to me and to everyone else, because the call for offside was a second before he kicked the ball. If someone is already in the motion of kicking the ball it's hard to stop, not only that but in a crowded stadium in that atmosphere it's difficult to hear the whistle etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9jKf4H7Ng4 thats footage, I couldn't find a better one. But this was terrible.

Quote by Mourinho regarding referee's, these have been in successive years and each time they've helped Barcelona in games they were having trouble in:

In his post-match press conference, Mourinho infamously went on his tirade and cried conspiracy, accusing Uefa, and even Unicef, of collaborating with the Blaugrana. One of Jose's more memorable lines was: "If I tell Uefa what I really think and feel, my career would end now. Instead I will just ask a question, to which I hope one day to get a response: Why? Why? Why Ovrebo? Why Busacca? Why De Bleeckere? Why Stark? Why?"
-2011

Barcelona v Milan, 2012. 2nd round
First round goalless draw. (coincidence that Barcelona is having trouble against another team, and in the 2nd round match, more help is given by referee)
In a corner, before the ball was even kicked. So the ball was out of play. Puyol shoved Nesta, Nesta shoved Busquets who as usual dived in the penalty area. A penalty was awarded to Barcelona and I think maybe Nesta was sent off. In the rules there is something about when the ball is out of play no fouls/card can be given.

2012 after Barcelona lost to Chelsea in the semi final, Platini said how sad he was that they hadn't made the final this year and that they should have been there or something. More bias from the head of UEFA. Btw, he didn't say the same for Real Madrid who also lost in the semi finals to Bayern Munich.

Every year it is something different but with that help from Uefa/refs they always benefit and do well. Bias has been shown every year to them. Thats my reasoning behind referees and UEFA helping Barcelona.
