Plop. Cecilia thrusted her fist into the water in the stone fountain, listening closely. That was kind of a fun sound. She tried it again, this time with both of her hands. Plop plop plop. Whoa. That was really fun. "Mimi! Come over here! Look at this!" She called to the Deino, who grudgingly made it way over to the fountain. Cecilia playfully flicked a little bit of water onto the Pokemon's face, who quickly shook it off and gave his Trainer an intimidating glare. Cecilia shrugged it off, however, and resumed playing with the water in the fountain. A thin layer of coins were on the bottom, probably from tourists who believed some sort of superstition about wishes, but Cecilia was more concerned about the water than the actual things of value. Plop plop plop plop plop. The people who were enjoying their time in the town square seemed to be disturbed by the noise that Cecilia was making. They all turned their heads over to look at the girl, groaning and turning back away. They were used to loud citizens and tourists, so they learned to ignore them. Cecilia rolled up her sleeves again, ignoring that her wet hands were dampening the fabric. Maybe one last time wouldn't hurt. Plop plop plop- "Hey!" A voice called out. Startled, Cecilia screamed as she clumsily fell into the fountain. A loud splashing sound filled the town square, much to the chagrin of the other people in the area. Completely soaked with water, she lifted her head out of the fountain, her hair sticking to her face and her pigtails thin and damp. "Where-what-huh?" Cecilia shouted. Now everyone was looking at her. Cecilia realized that she couldn't see anything- her glasses must have fallen off when she fell. She groped around blindly, for her bangs were covering her eyes, until she grabbed ahold of her glasses, which were floating peacefully not too far away from her. Putting them on and wiping her hair out of her face, she looked up to see a young tween boy, maybe about three or four years younger than her. "Oh! Hi! I'm Cecilia, what's your name?" She asked the boy, who scoffed. "What do you think you're doing?" He asked. "Oh. Uh....I think I fell. Silly me! Haha! Do you want in? It's actually kinda nice in here. I feel like a mermaid!" Cecilia said, splashing the water with her arms. "Yeah....okay. Anyway, it looks like you've got a rare Pokemon there, so I was gonna ask you to battle, but I guess you're just a klutz. It's fine, I'm leaving." He said. "Wait, no! I wanna battle! Let's battle! It'll be fun!" She insisted, grabbing the stone rim of the fountain. The boy looked at her strangely. He looked like he was thinking, but eventually sighed. ".....Fine. Get out of the fountain." He said. "No, I think I'm good. What was your name again?" Cecilia asked. "Max. Now get out of the fountain." "Mm....okay." Cecilia pulled herself out of the fountain, wringing out her hair in order to get all of the water off of it. She really did want to stay in the fountain a little longer, it was kind of refreshing. But if Max insisted, the only way she would get a battle (and some fun) was to haul herself out. "Okay! Battle time!" Cecilia yelled, pointing a finger dramatically at Max while combing out one of her pigtails with the other hand. Her hair was becoming knotted and tangled because of the unexpected dip, but it wasn't anything that she couldn't handle. "Mimi, show 'em what we're made of!" She said, beckoning her Deino to join the battle. Mimi leapt forward, taking position while Max went through his bag for the appropriate Pokeball. Edited by BananaPie, Jan 21 2014, 10:11 AM.

While waiting for the younger boy to select a Pokemon, Cecilia started shaking herself out like a dog would after a bath. Max looked upward and raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing?" "What, you didn't know? This is the best way to get yourself dry! Furfrou do it all the time, haven't you seen?" Cecilia said, not stopping her shaking. Her pigtails were flying everywhere, and her damp clothes were starting to get wrinkles. Finally satisfied that she was dry enough, Cecilia stood up straight. And promptly sneezed. "Ooh! Bless me!" She said before bursting into giggles. Max quietly ignored her. He took out a Pokeball and threw it onto the battlefield. "Nidorino! Go!" He shouted, letting the purple quadruped materialize. "You didn't nickname your Pokemon?....It must be so sad." Cecilia said, putting a hand to her face. Max's nose wrinkled. He was younger than Cecilia, but he had it in his mind that he would win the battle hands down. It was probably a waste of time, but it looked like she wasn't going to let him go without a fight, so he might as well just get it over with and then leave quickly. The Nidorino's eyes shined at the sight of Mimi. It started to become restless, stomping and pawing at the ground to get started. Cecilia blinked. Was it just her, or was the Nidorino starting to get riled up for no reason? Was he in love with Mimi? Oh, maybe he was! Love at first sight, how romantic... "It looks like your Nidorino really likes Mimi~! Maybe they should get married~!" Cecilia cooed. "Are you crazy? That's Nidorino's Rivalry ability, you bozo! Sorry to say, your Deino's a dude!" Max shouted angrily. "WHAT?" Cecilia exclaimed, in shock. "Mimi, is that true??" She turned sharply towards her Pokemon. The Deino glanced back at Cecilia, clearly embarrassed. He nodded. Cecilia looked like she was about to have a heart attack. "But I put a bow on you! I named you Mimi! Are you okay with that??" The Deino cocked his head to the side, in an "I don't really care" kind of expression. Cecilia groaned and buried her face in her hands. "Ugh, this is going nowhere. Nidorino! Let's get some momentum going! Peck!" Max shouted out. Cecilia made a high pitched whine. She wasn't ready for this! She wasn't ready for the battle to start! What was going on? Apparently Mimi wasn't ready, either, because the Nidorino rammed straight into the Deino, piercing the Dragon type Pokemon's skin with its horn. Mimi let out a cry, and Cecilia matched her Pokemon's strange noises to a T. "Yeah, hit it while it's down! Double Kick!" Max yelled out, trying to take advantage of the situation. "That's not fair, I wasn't ready! Bite him, Mimi!" Cecilia shouted. The Deino obliged, catching the Nidorino's hind leg as he tried to kick. At this point, Max was getting increasingly upset. "Ready, schmedy, you gotta be prepared at all times if you want to be an actually good Pokemon Trainer like me!" Cecilia gasped. "Rude!" "I never said I wasn't! Nidorino, get out of there!" The Nidorino obeyed, wrestling out of Mimi's iron fangs and retreating a couple of steps. "Okay, that's better! Fury Attack, don't let him get away with attacking you!" Max commanded with surprising authority for a twelve year old. [color=#E8B14A"Dragon Rage!"[/color] Cecilia blurted out without thinking. Her Deino opened its mouth and shot out a steady stream of blue fire, which hit the Nidorino as it tried to stab Mimi with its horn. The Pokemon, while obviously hindered by the Dragon Rage, powered through the fire and stabbed Mimi in the chest three times in quick succession. Mimi was thrust backwards a couple of yards, clearly hurt. "Mimi! No! Get up!" Cecilia cheered. She couldn't lose! Her and Mimi had the power of friendship on their side! Not to mention Max was a total jerk. "Okay, Nidorino, Focus Energy! Let's try to end this with the next hit." Max said. His Nidorino grunted and hopped backwards to create a little distance. Closing his eyes, the Poison type began to focus and try to identify the Deino's weak spots. "Mimi! Come on! Headbutt! You can do it!" The Deino slowly got up, seeing that the Nidorino was still focusing. The other Pokemon was becoming surrounded by a red aura, and Mimi stood up shakily, charging forward. The Nidorino had no chance to dodge, and was hit by the attack, but it didn't seem to do much to the Poison type. Cecilia was dumbfounded. How did it survive a Bite, a Dragon Rage, AND a Headbutt? "Uh....Tackle?" Cecilia almost asked. Mimi shuffled backwards after the Headbutt and went in for a weaker Tackle attack. "It'll take more than that to defeat my Nidorino! Double Kick!" Max said. Mimi slammed straight into the Nidorino with his Tackle attack, but the Nidorino didn't budge even an inch. Faster than the eye could see, the Nidorino sharply turned backwards and rammed the Deino with both of its hind legs, throwing him all the way to the other side of the battlefield. Cecilia ran forward to inspect her Pokemon, who was clearly knocked unconscious. "Sometimes you gotta let your opponent get in a hit so you can guarantee one of your own." Max smirked. ((Literally what is pacing tho)) Cecilia turned to Max, and then back to Mimi. What...? She didn't understand- how could she be beaten by a twelve year old? This was ridiculous. Returning Mimi to his Pokeball, Cecilia bit her lip. What was she supposed to do now? "Is that it? Because I'll be going-" "No!" Cecilia shouted, much louder than she'd anticipated. Max looked almost as startled as she felt. "No." She said much more quietly. "I have one more Pokemon. I'll battle!" Max looked confused. It would be a tie at best if she had only one more Pokemon. Still, it was some practice, and although he wanted to get away from this crazy girl, she was decent at battling. Not good, but decent. "Fine then." He shrugged, still thinking that he was a million times cooler than she was. "Let it out." Cecilia nodded furiously, determined to prove that she wasn't a loser. She sneezed. Now that the adrenaline from the battle was over, she suddenly realized that she was freezing. Her clothes were still wet, and if she didn't change soon, she was probably going to catch a cold. At this point, Cecilia was starting to feel a bit self conscious. She fell into a fountain, lost a battle with her prized Mimi, just learned that she was actually a he, and this kid obviously knew so much more about Pokemon than she did. Why wouldn't she just give up now? It was all fun and games when you could walk the walk, but... Still. She wanted to keep moving on. She needed to get better, to learn more. And obviously the only way she was going to do that was to practice. What was pride anyway? Was it something you ate? Or was it some kind of foreign Pokemon? Cecilia didn't care. She wanted to see this through to the end. After all, what does it matter if you humiliate yourself every now and then? Nobody she knew was here. Nobody would remember. And she would take this experience and make the most out of it. Bonus points if she could beat the kid and at least make it a tie. "Marcia!" She called out, throwing a Pokeball onto the field. A Fletchling popped out, landing gracefully on the ground. She looked excited, like she was looking forward to this. Our first battle. Hopefully it'll be okay. Cecilia thought to herself. Max frowned. A flying type. His Nidorino would be at a disadvantage. It had no ranged attacks to damage it in the air, and it wasn't fast enough to hit the bird Pokemon, which was a small target at best. He lifted the Nidorino's Pokeball, recalling the Poison type. Cecilia squinted. What was he doing? Wouldn't it be best to use the Nidorino to inflict as much damage as possible before his next Pokemon? What was he trying to do? Digging into his pocket, Max took out another Pokeball and threw it onto the field. "You're up, Vivillon!" As called, a bright pink Pokemon was released from the ball, doing a flip in mid-air. Flying versus Flying. Is that what Max wanted to do? Didn't she have the advantage, since Vivillon was also a Bug type? What was he planning? Cecilia wondered, raking her fingers through her damp hair. But there must have been a reason why he had chosen that Pokemon to go against her Fletchling.... "Okay, Marcia, uh....we'll take first strike this time! Quick Attack!" She called out. The Fletchling chirped in response, readying its stance and then charging forward at an unbelievable speed. The Vivillon had no room to dodge, instead taking the hit square to the wing and then recovering in mid-air. "Powder!" Max commanded. The Vivillon, taking advantage of the fact that Marcia had gotten so close to her opponent. Flapping its wings, the butterfly Pokemon let loose a sparkling powder onto the Fletching, who started to cough and hack it out of her system. However, now the bird Pokemon was covered in a sort of flaky dust, which would explode if it came into any contact with fire. Cecilia gasped. The only Fire type move that Fletchling could perform was a Flame Charge, and now that would be impossible due to the Powder that the Vivillon had sprayed on it. Max had effectively neutered her ability to inflict a super effective hit. Unless it came from a different type of move. "Peck!" "Psybeam!" Max's command came only milliseconds after Cecilia's. While the Fletchling had her Gale Wings on her side, the Vivillon was able to launch a purple colored beam at the bird Pokemon after she rushed in to Peck the bug. Marcia was struck by the Psychic type move, and fell to the ground unceremoniously. "Marcia! Get up! Roost it off!" Cecilia said, cupping her hands to her mouth to make her voice louder. The Fletchling didn't need to be told this twice, and stood up on the ground, resting herself. All of her feathers, which had been ruffled due to the awkward landing, had all neatly rearranged themselves and the Fletchling was looking a little better for wear. "Draining Kiss!" Max said. His plan was to strike the bird Pokemon while it was on the ground and had its guard down. His Vivillon promptly obeyed, flying in range of Marcia and planting a kiss on her head. An orb of yellow energy flew out of Marcia and into Vivillon instead, effectively draining the Fletchling's stamina. Cecilia made a distressed sound. All of the energy that she had spent so much time recovering through the Roost was now gone! Just like that! Could she take advantage of that in any way, ah....uh...."Flail!" Marcia caught the order, holding on to the Vivillon's body with her talons and thrashing around, slamming the bug Pokemon onto the ground multiple times. Max frowned. It seemed to be a doing a lot to his Vivillon, so that meant that the Fletchling was almost down for the count. He just needed a move that would be easily executable in this kind of situation...."Bug Buzz!" He said. The Vivillon's body and wings all began to vibrate, letting out a coarse noise. Cecilia was forced to cover her ears, and her Fletchling seemed to be having an even worse time. The bird Pokemon shook her head furiously, being forced to let go of her opponent and fell to the ground, unable to take the sound. "Finish it! Gust!" Max said. His Vivillon stopped vibrating its wings and instead started to flap them, creating a small whirlwind of sorts that forced the Fletchling backwards and threw her straight onto a small tree at the edge of the square. "Marcia!" Cecilia yelled, once again having to run towards her injured Pokemon, who was again, knocked out. "How did...how did...what?" She looked back towards Max, who had already recalled his Vivillon and was starting to walk away from the square. Cecilia knew she said stuff about improving....but honestly, she was expecting to win the match. She didn't think that she would be beaten 2-0 with that big of a margin between their Pokemon's conditions....She was older! She was supposed to be better! She knew about type advantages and disadvantages, and she loved her Pokemon! Wasn't friendship supposed to be the thing that brought victory? That's what all the movies had shown... Max, seeing how distraught Cecilia's face was, decided to walk a little closer. "Hey. That was uh...a good....match." He said, trying not to laugh. "....No, it wasn't." Cecilia said, sniffling. "Yeah, you're right. It wasn't. But you know, battling isn't all about love or friendship or whatever. You need some strategy, too." At this point, it looked like Max was kind of enjoying being able to lecture one of his elders. Cecilia opened her mouth when Max interrupted her before she even began. "It's not just about types and things, too. You gotta think about the individual characteristics of each Pokemon and each move before you make a decision. That's what my dad told me." "Your dad must have been a really good battler..." Cecilia said. Max nodded, looking like his ego was blowing up by the second. "I went to Silex Academy. Have you heard of it? It's one of the most prestigious schools in Aerei. It's really hard to get in." Max crossed his arms and smiled. "I'd tell you to try it out, but you probably couldn't get in. Ah, well. Maybe next year, if you improve enough." Those were his last words before he left, baseball cap turned backwards and all. Cecilia couldn't believe it. Such a snooty kid! But apparently he knew enough to back up his arrogance. Unlike her. She fell backward so that she was lying on the pavement and then sneezed again. Shoot. Was she really that stupid? She didn't think she was stupid. But sometimes, people treated her like she was. It was....so aggravating! Cecilia raked her nails across her face to try and get herself out of her mental funk. That was it. She'd get good. She'd get so good that she could beat anyone around! Haha! Yeah! That was the ticket! And then nobody would treat her like she was stupid. Cecilia sat up straight and took out her Pokeballs. Mimi and Marcia. Deino and Fletchling. Yeah. She would be unstoppable! Everyone would want to be her! Then that bratty kid would come sniffling to her instead. But first...she would have to learn. Silex Academy, huh...? Maybe it was worth a shot. Edited by BananaPie, Jan 21 2014, 10:14 AM.
