(((The green are the flashbacks)))

The humming tune carried from a sandy brown walking along the bottom ridges of the mountain. The dust being kicked up by his soiled covered shoes, as the breeze would come and go as it pleased. Even the stone texture held it’s own color for such a barren land to see. The young man gave a big yawn while he looked ahead to see nothing but rock and more stone. The man heard of a rumor being some sort of significance on top of this mountain, but did he honestly care about that? Anyone could see by the look on his face that he was only interested in retrieving what decided to run off.
His true intention was to hunt down Hero his first partner since the beginning. A stubborn Absol that cannot get it out of his head that they will have lack of work for awhile. It had been quite some time since they were worked to death every day; however the group they once were a part of disbanded long ago to the point the man could not remember. He missed the profession he done in the past, but realized the old times will not be coming back. Now many are already wondering his name, but do to the type of work he does his alias is only to be given. This sandy brown goes by the name of Cass and nothing is really much said after that. Honestly he could less if anyone knew him, as he’ll just use people for his own self-gain.
Cass’s occupation was not high in the list, but enough to see he looks to be an ordinary trainer. The normal red T-shirt and black shorts he wore were a basic cover up to keep from being ousted by any enemies among the crowds he could be in. His working gear, except what he used for catching pokémon was back at the base. Though no one could really see such a machine when it has been updated so many times that it looks like a ringlet hanging on Cass’s wrist.
Thinking back now he pondered why this scene of rocks and clouds looked familiar. Yes, of course Cass remembered Stark Mountain in search of a shadow pokémon. How did a shadow pokémon make it out of Orre one could ask? Well considering Orre is not the only region experimenting on pokémon. Now this was not the actual reason Cass thought of Stark Mountain, but the Skarmory he caught second on his journey while trying to retrieve the said shadow pokémon.
Why bring up such a thought? Well does being thrown off a cliff count as an interesting story? It really started when Cass actually tried to climb after making many attempts to actually get on the mountainside. Stark Mountain was said to be filled with verities of rock, ground, fire, any other types related. Did this treacherous mountain stop this trainer? No that was far from what Cass thought, as he finally managed to get a grip of himself on the mountainside.

(Flashback)

“Damn,” Cass cursed to basically the stone that was inches from his face,” is this punishment for failing to send those dumb papers?” He titled his head slightly upward to see a glimpse of white fur leaning over the ledge. “Oh you seem to be having fun there,” Cass huffed at the Absol waiting for his trainer to hurry up,” why can’t you be some kind of grass type that can use vine whip?” The trainer inhaled his breath and slowly started climbing again. Carefully Cass gripped each rock hold and stepping outlet. Pulling himself up one hand and foot at a time to avoid any slips that could result a dangerous tumble.
Some tiny crumbles of rocks tumbled past Cass making him almost slip. He gripped the tiny hole just above his head in time before completely lose his footing.
“Hey watch it up there,” Cass yelled,” can’t you see I don’t have claws like you Hero!”
Hero gave a look that he could care less what Cass was whining about. He sat back continuing to wait still, as the clouds that hovered above them thickened by the minute. The scythe type horn raised high, as the Absol cocked his head to the wind. There was indeed somewhat of an off feel about this place, however not for the reason they were here. Moments a go it felt like normal mountain air, but now it just seems that there was someone or something heading their direction.
Fingers slowly cupped the edges of the sharp cliff and finally Cass popped his head up to see his partner waiting. “You know for a partner you’re not very helpful,” he remarked with an aggravated look to his eyes,” get over here and help me.” The Absol merely snorted and reluctantly walked over to his trainer to help. Grabbing a hold of Cass’s shirt Hero heaved back to roll him onto the ledge. A grunt or two slipped through Hero’s teeth while at last Cass fully made it onto the first ridge of the mountain.
“You know if I was actually a normal trainer I could have easily taken the marked path,” Cass said gulping in air, as his eyes looked up to the clouded sky,” I mean why do they makes go the hard route all the time? It’s not like we’ll be spotted so effortlessly.”
Hero turned his head where the horn that was nestled at the side of his face was now pointed toward Cass,” aah,” he grunted heavily. Cass merely shook his head to his partner, as he stood to dust off his shorts. Even though it was cloudy Cass could tell by the sunspots that it would clear soon, hopefully.
“Now let’s see,” the trainer ponder aloud while pulling out that contraption they would call a navigator. A tool regularly used for a trainer on a normal adventure, however in a snagger’s case it would be used for a different reason. “It says that it should be on that right ridge over there,” Cass pointed out, as his finger darted to the spot a few ways to the left.
Hero just swerved his head the other direction where Cass was pointing giving a smirk that would frighten a Slaking. He pulled his lips back revealing the canines underneath, as Hero stepped forward to start climbing onto the next rock. It would seem Hero had switch to the fighting mode one could call it. Cass was at tow behind the overly aggressive Absol, as he too started to ascend toward the next ledge.
The wind blew furiously making Hero slide down onto Cass, as the rocks tumbled on them. A silver blur had swooped by trying to knock off the duo and soon it disappeared behind a small rock formation. A moment of silence went by, as the two tried to keep their hold of the stones in their reach. Finally after a good moment or two Cass and Hero managed to have a firm hold of the massive stone.
“Get your butt out of my face,” Cass spoke in a struggle while trying to keep Hero up,” or I will drop you right here.” Hero gave a threatening growl in response, but soon his head snapped away to a sudden silhouette in the sky. It flickered about for a bit, before the shadow started to grow in size. Another growl rippled from the Absol’s throat to the sight of the incoming foe. The Absol scaled farther up until he made it to the next high rise. Hero went into a stance to show he was not to be taken lightly, however the Skarmory did not falter to the Absol’s challenge.
Cass somehow managed to actually get to the ridge where his partner stood. He look to the steel bird heading their way quickly, as the Skarmory open it’s mouth to prepare for an attack.
“ We have no time for this,” Cass whined, but soon had to duck when the pokemon snapped for them. It had to curve up from avoid colliding into the rock wall. The Skarmory circled around once more and aimed for the duo once again.
“Sar,” the bird bellowed, as it dive bombed down with it’s talons out for the grab.
“Run!” Cass yelled, as he twisted around made a dash along the ridge of the rock with Hero behind him. Normally the Absol would have stayed, but the bird was not their target. The Skarmory cawed once more and without being prepared for it Cass was caught by the bird’s claws. The grip was tight to the point the trainer felt his body was going to be ripped apart. Cass struggled to get free of the Skarmory’s clutches, however no luck came to his aid.
“Let me go,” Cass threatened in a yell,” Let me go!”
The silver colored bird only let loose another shriek,” Sar!” It sounded as if the sight of them aggravated the pokemon, but in reality the Skarmory had a roost where the two had been climbing. Flying over the ridge the large bird went carrying Cass to other side far away from his partner.
“I said let me go!” Cass yelled once again, but soon realized the height they were at,” wait no, no don’t let me go!”
“Sca!” the Skarmory screeched once more, as it loosened it’s talons to where Cass slipped through. Cass plummeted, but not as far as one would think. He soon smacked hard against a flat rock surface with a loud crack.
Pressing his hand to push his body up to a sitting position while he rubbed the back of his neck,” that bird is going to be roasted spoink style on a barbeque grill when I get a hold of it,” he mumbled with a slight headache. He heard what sounded as a crackling cry, but Cass already knew who it was that made the noise. He looked up to see the bird-circling overhead of the rock Cass was now sitting on.
A scream came loose from Cass’s mouth, as the bird landed nearly on top of him without any warning.
“Don’t eat me my flesh is not thick enough for your taste,” Cass said, as he raised his arms in a shield like way. The Skarmory merely cocked its head to the left with a perplexed expression on its face. Cass looked up at the bird in between his fingers waiting for the worst to happen. “Don’t tease me,” he argued,” just get it over and done with”
“Sar, Sar,” the Skarmory said with laughter,” Sca.” He fluttered it’s wings to the point even the red could be seen.
“Stop laughing,” Cass spoke aggravated by this silly bird,” go shoo girl.” Right than the bird snapped forward knocking Cass off the edge of the cliff with a bash of it’s foot. Once again Cass fell to the sharp rocks below at an increasing pace. He twisted his body around somehow, as his hands started to slid against the rocks that poked out. After trying his best to get a hold of one of the edges Cass, managed to catch himself. He held on to dear life not even wanting to know how far the ground is below.
“Alright,” Cass yelled to the bird,” your not a girl, my bad!” He could feel his hands could slip off at any minute, but for now Cass was safe.
The Skarmory appeared next to him in the air, as the bird flapped his wings,” Sar,” it mocked.
“I’m sorry alright,” Cass whined, as he barely got a glimpse of the steel colored bird,” how was I suppose to know?”
“Sar,” the bird exclaimed,” sar!”
Cass’s legs dangled here and there, as he tried to speak,” I don’t know what your saying just get me down from here!” The Skarmory just simply nodded, after being satisfied with the apology by this trainer. He took his sharp looking beak and pulled Cass from the side of the rock.
“Hey wait what are you doing?” Cass struggled, as he got a sign from the bird’s eyes that he was up to no good,” don’t you even dare!” Ah, too late the Skarmory open his jaw and there went Cass once again.
“No!” Cass yelled, but soon realized his feet were already touching the ground,” what?” he looked up to where his hands were at moments ago and noticed he was not even that far from the earth floor.
Now Cass could feel the pain aching over his body, as he looked at his roughed up hands.
“Great,” he muttered and than look to the Skarmory landing next to him. He backed up more, as he was much careful with his footing. “Don’t you have somewhere to be, shoo,” Cass slightly hissed while moving his hands in a sweeping motion.
“Sar,” the Skarmory responded with a small whine,” ar.”
“I don’t have time for this,” Cass remarked as he turned to leave,” go back to your nest or where ever you came from.” The silver colored bird was not done with this trainer yet, as he waited for Cass to get some distance between them. Only moments later did the bird take flight and soared into the sky.
“Great that silly bird made me lose time,” Cass complained,” now where in the hell am I?” He gazed around for a bit to see nothing but gray and brown colored boulders along with other types of minerals. Cass pulled out his navigator to see if he could get his position on the shadow pokemon, but discovered the tool was broken. “Great I’m lost,” he sighed, as he tucked it back on his belt. The snagger scanned the close area once more before walking on to where he guessed was the right direction.
“Scar!” a screeching voice cried behind Cass’s back.
“Oh no,” he whispered as he attempted to keep walking. All Cass could remember next was his face planting into the ground. The heaviness of the Skarmory was overwhelming, as he screamed from the pain he felt in his nose.
“You broke my nose!” Cass yelled in nasal tone,” I can not believe you broke my nose!” He cupped both his hands over his nose, as a small amount of blood came rolling out. The Skarmory just chirped thinking it was a game, even started into his own song of fun. He flapped his wings quickly in a dancing way, as the bird followed behind Cass who started walking in a fast pace.
“Sar,” the bird chirped louder, but got cut short when Cass turned around.
“Look I have no intentions of playing games with you. Now go back,” Cass said in the same nasal voice,” dumb bird.”
“Sar,” the Skarmory whined realizing the game was ending,” Sar!”
“No,” Cass responded as he found himself climbing down a stepping path. He started to recognize his surrounds and soon would be reunited with Hero. Though, the only irritating part was the Skarmory had yet to leave. “Look you can not go with me,” Cass said half glancing back, however the silver colored bird was not there,” finally.”
Cass let out a sigh in relief and took one last look to make sure that he was not following. When he was satisfied Cass turned to start walking once more.
“Ah,” Cass jumped in a startled. The Skarmory was right in his face with a happy looking expression on his face. “Stop it,” Cass threatened,” or I’ll pluck your tail feathers off.” In response the Skarmory gave another happy chirp to Cass. The snagger walked past the hefty bird and continued onward. No matter how much Cass had protested or threatened to beat him with the stick the Skarmory followed.
“Sar,” the bird twittered happily while hovering after the sandy brown.
Cass just heaved a big sigh in defeat,” I give up just shut up will ya.” Not even if Cass wished for it the bird did not hushed. He followed the trainer until they met up with Hero that was actually at the very bottom of the mountain. After that the Skarmory tagged along until he became a part of the team. Cass was probably growing early gray hairs by the overly zealous bird, but hey it’s better than a dull life.

(End Flashback)

Cass still pondered about that day when he got stuck with that Skarmory. He even named the bird after the mountain he met the pokemon at. Anyone can easily guess it to be Stark to put short and simple. One way of getting another member added to the team, even though being dropped many times should not be included. Now why would someone think of a memory about their second pokemon? One it was an amusing story and two it gave the reason how they became partners.
Cass slid his hand back onto his belt feeling a round like object to his touch. A faint click noise sounded, as he pulled the pokéball from his belt. Cass rolled the sphere like object in his palm, as he weighed his options on how to find his partner, Hero. One way was to have more eyes out to look for the Absol, but how far will they have to actually search? Indeed Hero has certainly changed when they started roaming the new regions, however it seemed as if his behavior was only getting worse.
The snagger merely let out a sigh that sounded like his patience was coming to an end. Cass wondered if it would only get worse, but first to find his partner that he had since the beginning. He spun the pokéball once more in his hand thinking carefully. Finally after a pause of silence Cass pushed the small white button on the pokéball. It snapped open in a blink of an eye while following that a red stream of light zapped out from the sphere like contraption. The light touched down quickly and vanished as soon as it had appeared. Revealing what pokemon held inside.
The steel like bird reared his head back to let a caw rip from his sharp beak. He extended out his wings letting the red become visible to the eye, as Stark was ready to go into action. The sun’s rays reflecting off the silver pokemon, as the bird stretched out more to look bigger. Even though this over sized bird did not realize it was to find Cass’s Absol who disappeared on him earlier. The gleam in this bird’s eyes was focused and to the point while his talons spread out in a stretch motion.
“Alright,” Cass started, as the sandy brown attempted to climb on. Stark was too flustered up to even let his trainer a board. “Come on we need to find Hero,” Cass said rubbing the side of Stark’s beak.
The bird swiveled his head away from Cass’s hand to the other direction,” Sar,” the bird cracked in a snort. He tucked his wings back in without a care in the world, as his eyes were trained on something in the distance. One could say this bird had mood swings, but that would be saying too much. The Skarmory gave another grunt in protest not to go, as he lowered himself to the ground on his legs.
“Don’t tell me you’re still sore over what Hero did to you?” Cass asked the bird. The Skarmory flicked his large yellow eyes to his trainer with a heavy glare that read he could care less about the dumb Absol. “What if I bribe you for some scrapes later?” Cass offered slyly. Stark was getting displeased with Cass as to why he could be easily persuaded like that. He chirruped to a high-pitched caw that made Cass cover his ears. He staggered back a couple of steps to the point a sudden blur of silver rushed toward him.
The next thing happened that Cass was not prepared for when the steel pokemon burst on top of him. His legs clamping into the earth on both side of his trainer’s arms while his jagged beak was a mere inch from the trainers face. Cass could recall some of the times his Skarmory had jumped like this. Indeed a painful experience, but at least he has not died yet from his pokémon’s giddiness. He watched as Stark swiftly cracked his wings open once more in a way to argue. The dust was smothering the air quickly by the flapping of Cass’s pokemon. “Alright, alright I get it. I will make Hero apologize,” He squabbled to the agitated Stark.
“Sarr!” he objected,” Arr. Sarr!” The bird was truly unsettled by this and the fact he was not going to be easily to agree to the deal. Cass attempted to move at least one arm under the massive birds talons, but no luck he could not move. The claws were trying to make his arms hurt from the lack of blood flow in them, as Cass kept moving about foolishly.
“I will give you double the amount to the point that you’re a plumped as a Wailord on your next meal,” Cass responded to the birds cry,” just get your massive claws off me!” Oddly enough the Skarmory obediently got off and took the tip of his beak to help his trainer up. “Geez you’re a hand full,” Cass complained to Stark, as he looked down to his sore arms. His Skarmory nudged gently against his cheek in a way of apologizing to him and than Stark bent his legs to lower to the ground. Cass let out a sigh to his pokemon’s effort to reconcile with his trainer. “Your just one big baby,” he said, as he shook his head a bit. The Skarmory just gave a small caw to his trainer in response, as he waited for Cass to climb on. The bird indeed had almost the same thoughts as Cass; if something were to benefit Stark surely he would gladly help.
After a moment to weigh his options on the chance he’ll get denied access to climb onto the birds back again, Cass carefully grasped the shoulder and joint of the wing. He pushed himself on to his Skarmory’s back and settled his legs around the thin looking neck of the bird. “I know I put in my pocket the morning,” Cass mumbled in a thinking way. Stark merely let out a sigh in a some what of a patient way, as the bird waited for his trainer to be ready.
“Sarr,” the bird huffed a long sigh.
Cass gave a looked at the back of his pokemon’s head knowing it would be useless to do so,” hang on we can’t fly until I find them. It’s hard to see when there is wind blasting into your eyes,” he remarked.
The Skarmory let another huff of air escape it’s pointy beak,” arr.”
Cass pulled from his left black short pockets a pair of white and black pair of goggles with eyepieces being a pale yellow. Slipping the black strap around his head Cass slipped the yellow glass over his eyes with a small pop to them. A smile formed on his lips, as Cass remembered the times when him and Skarmory had to do some air raids along the enemy’s base. Soon though the sandy brown frowned remembering the times when a Flamethrower or an Ice Beam was trying to knock them out of the sky. Some cases it did happened and others they were lucky to escape with scratches.
“I’m ready,” Cass finally spoke up,” let’s head out and searched for that stubborn fool.” Patting his pokémon’s neck gently gave the signal Stark to take flight. The Skarmory fluffed his wings up a bit and snapped them finally to their full length. The dust flew when the bird’s feet now hovered above the ground and with a couple more flicker of his sharp looking wings Stark took to the sky.

The sun high in the sky now giving off that warmth that almost anyone could enjoy while a shadow creaked along the bottom ridges of the mountain’s floor. The silhouette was a rather bulky looking, as the silver looking bird flew a few feet from the ground. The Skarmory flapped his wings a couple of times showing only a silver and red blur from it’s body was moving. Stark scanned the ground carefully with it’s keen focus to search for that blasted Absol that he at the moment did not like too well.
“Shall we sing a song while we hunt?” Cass joked a bit, as his plastic covered eyes examine the ground beneath them as well. The trainer’s Skarmory let a chuckle break away from his back, as Stark continued on with this poor for an excuse hunt.
“You know Stark I bet I haven’t told you how me and Hero became partners,” Cass mentioned over the wind. The steel like bird flapped his wings a couple of more times while listening to what Cass was saying. “This was before we met you,” the trainer remarked,” Hero was actually my first pokemon to have as a partner.”
“Sar?” the bird spoke in a questioning tone while picking up a Geodude digging about as the duo passed.
“Yes Stark Sar,” Cass joked with him, as they both know Cass could not really understand what he meant. “It all started back in the Orre region. When I was a child,” he started the old memory,” at a place that has luscious greenery and merry old people that would spoil any kid they spotted. A town known to be Agate Village.” Cass could see some of the images clearly, as he thought about the memory. He started to daze a bit as he went into his spill of the past.

(Flashback)

The waters bordering the docks of the small green like island was starting to pick up here and there with the wind. It would seem a storm was approaching quick and soon the sea would rise to the point where it touched even the poke mart’s front door. The air was buzzing about with force making the town folk all alike take shelter in their homes. Those who had to go to higher ground had to share a space with another person at their home until the storm had passed.
The tides rose to high heights that consider monstrous, as the dark clouds rolled in fast with lightening carrying about like a bullet barreling out of a gun. The sounds were dreadful as if someone was taking a long chalkboard and using the sharpest scraper to scratch against it. The night carried on like this until morning dawned and finally after the last mighty wave crashed the storm had ended. The night terror left only anguish in its wake, as the villagers peered out from their homes carefully.
The lush green matted together with uprooted soil; while even the trees were topple on top of each other, homes, and businesses alike. This put a damper on things for the people of Agate Village. Even the small amounts of children were disappointed by the storm’s terrible deed. Soon everyone gathered in front of the big oak tree to meet about how to go about the recent events.

(End Flashback)

“You see Stark,” Cass smiled while seeing another movement on the ground,” The storm was the start of it. Hero was not really born until afterwards.” The large bird cawed acting as if he was listening to the story when he caught eye of white darting off toward thick layer of rocks. The sun was setting off in the distance while the blur of white vanished behind the stone structure. Stark turned his body side ways to lean into the wind, as they were guided forward.
“Where was I?” Cass whispered a bit while thinking,” Oh yes, after the storm passed the village was cleaning up the mess. During that time apparently an egg was brought to the dare care center by a mountaineer that that had not realized what type of pokemon it was. He explained to them how mountain life was not suited for an egg. Well anyone can figure out if the egg was in a mountain region would be fine, but I guess the man had a caring heart or something like that.”
Silence between the pokemon and trainer went on like that for a bit or two, but knowing Cass he did not stay quiet for long. He shifted his weight again, as his Skarmory change to follow the ball of white drifting farther away.
“You know Stark I think your losing your touch,” Cass remarked with a joke to his tone.
“Sar,” the bird snorted to the comment, as the Skarmory’s speed picked up. Flickering his wings once more to gain extra boost, while the backseat driver started pondering at the old memory. A thought or two past before Cass realized he had not finished the story.
“Well while we’re playing a cat and mouse game,” the trainer laughed,” why not finish the story?” Stark rolled his large eyes as far back as he could to see his trainer laughing. He shook his head to get back focused on the running Absol that he almost could close in on. The steel like bird chirped a bit wanting to turn this chase into a game of his own. Cass laughed even more, but quieted after a bit to start back into the story of Hero and his first encounter.

(Flashback)

Anyone that lived in the village long enough would recognize the sandy brown running was young Cass. Apparently the news of the egg had spread quickly, but what do you expect from a small village? He climbed the earth colored steps and zig zagged over the pile of lumber that still had not been collected. Finally, after trying to get passed some guys working construction and a couple of words a child should not hear Cass made it to the Day Care Center.
Bursting into the common looking waiting room Cass had that young eager look touching his face.
“I heard, I heard,” Cass almost yelled in excitement,” I want to see, I want to see!”
The Day Care lady jumped from the startling boy’s voice,” Oh, well right now we are not letting anyone see the egg until we are sure the pokemon will arrive safely.”
“But, but,” Cass whined,” I came all the way here to see what everyone has been talking about.”
“Now, now,” the Day Care lady protested,” if you truly want to see it you must wait until the end of the month like everyone else.”
“A month?” the young boy repeated her,” a month is too long!” He slammed his hands on the counter top, but being the height he was at Cass had no luck. “I promise I wont tell anyone,” Cass whispered with a puppy dog look to his green eyes,” I’ll even work here to show that I can keep that promise.” He even leaned closer to prove to her, as he waited for the tall lady’s response.
“Will you now?” The lady spoke in a business like tone,” what will you do when others come asking for the same thing?”
“I-I,” Cass stuttered,” please I’m begging you.” The lady looked at the boy carefully and finally just gave a sigh along with a nod. “Yay!” he bellowed happily,” when do I start?”
“Wait,” The lady spoke trying to keep the eager boy calm,” first tell me how are you going to do all your other duties and help out here?”
Cass pouted his bottom lip out,” I can manage.”
She chuckled at his stubbornness and gave a simple nod,” alright than for being such a relentless boy. You may come to the back to begin your choirs.” Cass gave a fast nod to the lady’s words and darted toward the door, before she could manage to explain anything else.
The next day the lady explained to the eager child how to do things and such. She told him how he needed to work for a while before she would let Cass even near the egg. The simple minded child he was just gave a nod in agreement and soon set to work. Over the next couple of weeks Cass worked in the day care and around the village happily, as he waited to hear from the Day Care lady. Even the construction workers were happy to see that child’s face while he passed heading to his next job.
No sooner without realizing it was almost at the passing point and now Cass was even more determined. He scurried up once again to the Day Care to start his choirs; however he decided first to have a little chat with the lady running the place.
“Ma’am,” Cass said oddly respectful,” I have been working hard with the villagers and helped here as well. May I please see the egg now?”
The lady looked up from the paper she was reading to see Cass’s face appearing to be waiting for her answer, “I’m sorry, but the egg had been picked up yesterday in the late evening,” she said softly. She watched the expression change on the young boy’s face, as the happiness filling it disappeared slowly.
“I thought it was going to be here until it hatched?” Cass said a little baffled,” I worked so hard to get to see the egg and now it’s gone?” Cass felt utterly at a lost, as the tears were starting to rim the bottom of his eyes. “I wanted to see the egg so badly. It would have been my first time getting to see a pokémon egg,” Cass spoke, as his words started to run together.
He suddenly dashed from the center and ran all the way back to his house. He did not even care who he ticked off or knocked down on the way back. How could that lady do that, after he worked so hard? He thought she was a tyrant and used people to do her work. Cass just wanted to see the egg after all. Was that too much to ask?
Cass’s grandparents were sitting on the couch when they suddenly jumped at the door being snapped open. Cass ran directly upstairs to his room without a single word to them. The two elder folk merely looked at each other with pondering gazes.
“Shall I go this time?” The grandmother asked.
The elder man just merely nodded,” it is your turn this go around.” She gave a glare in response to his remark and creakily stood to her feet.
“If that is the case,” she spoke with a waiver to her voice,” than be useful.” The grandmother started up the stairs with her cane as her crutch. Finally after ago minute or two she made it to Cass’s room at the end of the hall.
Cass had his face pressed into his pillow, as he laid on his stomach with one leg over the other.
“I don’t want to talk right now,” he spoke suddenly when he heard the door open. He kept his face into the pillow making his words muffled either way.
“Oh? Than may I just with you?” she asked already sitting in the chair beside Cass’s bed. “I have not been able to see you within the last month. You must have been very busy,” she remarked.
“Yes I was,” Cass mentioned,, as he looked up slightly” I was doing things for the Day Care lady.”
The Grandmother gave a wrinkly smile to his words and chuckled,” I have been told that you started working there. When did you start growing up?”
“All I wanted to do is see the egg like everyone else,” Cass spoke sitting up now,” but someone came by yesterday and had picked it up. I have not yet seen it.”
She listened quietly to the reason why Cass was down and only kept her smile on to show she was there for him,” that is a shame. Think for a minute though darling, if that egg was to hatch in a place that was had so many people and pokémon moving about it would get scared. It might just run away, so maybe the Day Care lady was thinking of its happiness.”
“I still wanted to see it,” Cass pouted,” I worked everyday just to get a chance to see a pokémon egg.”
“I know you did darling,” the grandmother replied. She turned her body slightly to look to the door where Cass’s grandfather was standing. In his hand a brown box was held carefully.
“Ah,” the grandmother spoke happily,” Papa you brought it here.”
Cass tilted his head curiously,” what is that?”
His grandfather gave a chuckle to his grandson’s question,” it is a box boy.” Cass gave his sarcastic old, old man a glare.
“Dear,” the elder woman spoke,” give him the box already.” He laughed quietly a bit more before he laid the box next to the young boy. Cass just stared at the box for a good few minutes before he started to slide off the top.
A sudden smile crept on Cass’ face so fast not many would have notice his expression change. Inside nestled in a soft decorative blanket the egg laid comfortably. The shape was simple nothing grand as others seem to be. IT was a white egg with black markings all over it.
“Are you ok?” The grandmother spoke breaking the silence. It seemed Cass had forgotten to breath he was so excited. He took a breath when he suddenly started to coughing.
“Yes I’m fine. I just can’t believe it,” Cass stated to the two,” is this really mine?” They both smiled and nodded, but stopped when Cass started taking the egg out of the box.
“Careful now boy,” Cass’s grandfather warned,” do not drop it.”
“I won’t,” Cass said happily,” I was just wondering about something.”
The grandmother just looked at her grandchild,” what is it?” Cass was quiet for a bit, as he looked at the egg closely and slightly rubbed the top of.
“ I was wondering how it would taste after I cooked it,” he answered them while still gazing at the egg.
“No!” they both yelled in unison.
Cass looked up to them and stuck his tongue out at them,” I was just kidding the egg would probably taste bad anyways.”
“Don’t scare us like that child,” His grandmother said with a sigh.
“I’m sorry it was just a spoken thought,” Cass remarked, but before anyone could get another word out the egg started to move. It went shifted left and right, as the egg began to bounce. Cracks slowly came over the egg and began to spread faster until little fractures were seen all over the egg. Cass watched, as he leaned back a little to watch the scene unfold before him.
The top half of the egg popped off into pieces all over the bed only to leave a mess of egg shell. A black horn was the first to be seen by the three in the room. Following was to big round eyes the color of red peering out the egg.
“Ahhh,” it said a little high pitched,” Ahh.”
“Oh my,” the grandmother spoke first,” It’ is an Absol.”
“Indeed it is. Even a chubby one at that,” Cass’s grandfather agreed. The only person who had not yet to speak was looking at the odd looking pokémon “Is there something bugging you?” the grandfather asked Cass.
“No,” the boy answered,” I’m just happy to have my first pokémon is all.”
“That is a good thing child,” the grandmother spoke,” what will you name him?”
“Name?” Cass repeated.
The elder gentleman spoke first,” yes a name boy.”
Cass repeated once more,” a name?” He looked down to the Absol who was now rubbing up against Cass’s body. He opened his chubby mouth and let a yawn escape. The baby pokémon curled up even more and started to drift off in Cass’s arms.“Hero is what I’ll call him,” Cass whispered quietly,” something to hope for in the future.” They all stayed silence for a while and watched the pokémon sleep. The grandparents left shortly, however to let the two get to know each other. Cass let a small yawn come his own mouth and felt him slipping away as well. They both slept peacefully and soon will know that they will be partners through the thickest of time.

(End Flashback)

“Sar,” Stark boasted snapping Cass from his thoughts. It was a long time ago since he first met Hero. Cass’s first partner and pokémon friend from the beginning. A pity, that Hero had changed over the years, as he notice his friend making a run for it. The Absol once was a nice pokémon and even kind to everyone at Agate Village, however everything changed after the training.
“Alright Stark let’s land,” Cass spoke fast.
The silver pokémon flew straight for Hero that was running faster,” Sar!”
Hero notice the two trailing him and he gave a snort to them. Quickly as the Absol picked up speed he suddenly twisted on the spot with a glare that looked death threatening.
“Well he is in one of his moods,” Cass sighed while readjusting his goggles,” let’s get this over with. Maybe he won’t attack.” The Skarmory hovered a bit, but before the bird could ground fully Cass had jumped off nearly landing on top of his Absol.
“Hero,” Cass laughed,” your mood swings are a pain. Why not give it a rest. I know you’re not use to the spare time, but there is nothing we can do about it.”
“ahhrrh,” Hero answered short patient.
Cass pulled off his goggles and sighed,” look I’m not telling you as a friend anymore. I’m telling you as your trainer Hero. Our work has been put on hold until further notice. All we can do is wait until something actually interesting happens.”
Hero snorted,” ahr.”
“No Hero,” Cass started,” there are no Shadow Pokémon here. It is as simple as that. There are no enemies and no sirens blaring everywhere. Now let’s go I’m kind of getting hungry.” At first the Absol did not move, but how could he defy his trainer? He watched Stark be returned his ball and safely tucked on the belt. He looked to the ground and then back to Cass who was waiting on him now. One foot after another Hero walked by Cass his partner since he hatched that one evening in Agate Village. A time back than that was peaceful, however now and days it was a war life for them and as long as they were buddies nothing would really matter more than that.
