The night air was silent as a large metallic bird hovered over the castle courtyard, looking out into the distance, ever vigilant. Below it in the shadows sat Ajax, keeping his eyes directed forward, listening for any suspicious sounds, looking for any suspicious sights. The Umbrans were skeptical about allowing him to guard the courtyard, due to his partial blindness. However, they figured that the fact that he used a Skarmory, a flying Pokemon, made up for it. They also thought it would make for a suitable way to test him.
“Hm, it’s been awhile,” the large man said to himself, his gravelly voice resonating in the silent air. “And yet nothing’s even made an attempt to get in. I guess the situation here isn’t as bad as the notice made it out to be. I doubt I’ll even need this.” He placed the flare gun, which had been in his hand this whole time, right on the ground next to him, essentially daring anything to try to get in while he was watching.

Things remained quite quiet overall for the first half hour, only the odd member passing by to get inside as was allowed anyway. After a while beyond that though there seemed to be a slight chill added to the air, a shiver running down the spines of both people and pokémon alike who remained outside, though the pokémon of the area seemed more able to adjust to the change as if it were normal until there started a hacking cough from the trees disrupting the silence in the area.
Panicked footsteps quickly started to emit from the woods, the sound of the coughing getting louder though the gaps of breath being drawn sounding more and more rasping and struggling before a figure started to appear from the trees, though it was quite clear that something wasn't right over there. And it was heading Ajax's way.

Upon hearing the first cough, Ajax immediately shot up, leaving the flare gun beside him. He saw somebody approaching, but couldn't make out who they were. He growled dangerously. Looks like this may be a busy evening after all, he thought grimly.
“Ironwing! Come,” he commanded in a booming voice. The steel bird silently descended and landed right by the large man, quickly and obediently. The Skarmory made a horrible, grating screeching sound, as if to ask what was going on.
“Somebody’s coming,” Ajax mumbled. He took a few steps towards the figure that emerged from the trees. He wasn’t able to see the figure clearly, and he wanted to make sure he wasn’t about to attack a fellow Umbran.

The figure carried on forwards towards Ajax, stumbling in weakness and ending up flopping over just too far for anyone to see who they really were.
"Help me..." croaked a very weak male voice, his face looking up to Ajax pleadingly.
As they got closer it became clear that the man wasn't an Umbran but in this condition not exactly a threat either. The other thing that was obvious to notice was that the closer to the man you got the colder it seemed to be.

“Ironwing, stay here and keep watch in case this is a trap. I’m going to go see who’s out there,” he instructed as he walked towards the man. He felt the air grow colder the closer he got to the mysterious person. Huh? It’s… Getting colder, he pointed out to himself. Something isn’t right here. It was a lot warmer a second ago. Who is this person?
Ajax figured he’d find out soon enough. As he finally reached the man, he noticed that he was far from an Umbran. Hm, so he isn’t one of us. His safety is not my responsibility, he reminded himself. He squatted over the man, completely ignoring his plea for help. “Who are you?” he shouted into the man’s face aggressively. “How did you find this place!?!”

"S..so cold..." he groaned, curling up a little ball, shivering before the coughing came back, the man ending up in the foetal position in weakness.
"Grizzly Grove... Got lost..." he uttered weakly, no longer looking to him nor caring the fact he wasn't with good company around here, nor the fact his masculinity was at question since he did look like the kind who would care normally.

Ajax said nothing, many thoughts racing through his head.
Hm, so something strange is happening in Grizzly Grove, eh? This information might be useful. Incendia may want to hear this, he thought. Maybe I should squeeze him for information. Shouldn’t be too hard, with his current state.
“So something got ya in Grizzly Grove,” he said thoughtfully. “Exactly what happened to you there?” he inquired, although his tone made it a hundred percent clear that he didn’t give half of a damn about the man’s condition.

"Just f*cking help me!!" he yelled, shivering quite violently as he coughed, trying to make himself feel at all better, trying to get up or at least sit up, his head turning to glare at Ajax before quickly turning away to cough harshly once more.

Ajax’s eyebrows came together as the man spoke.
Is he some kind of idiot? he asked himself. His life is in my hands, and yet he chooses to disrespect me? I didn’t think I looked like the benevolent type at all. I should just let him die right here, perhaps even kill him myself. However, he needed to know what had happened. He begrudgingly decided to help him.
“Fine,” he spat at the man. “I’ll take care of you for a little while, until somebody else passes judgment on you.” He cautiously picked the man up and slung him over his shoulder, carrying him back towards the courtyard, grimacing at the harsh chill of the air around him. Ironwing did the Skarmory-equivalent of a gasp as Ajax drew nearer.
“New task. Make sure this guy doesn’t die, at least until he tells us what we want to know.” He placed the man gently on the ground. “Now then, we can’t do anything to help until we figured out what happened to you, so start talking, unless you fancy the idea of becoming a worm‘s dinner.”

"I'm not gonna die.." he groaned, slumped against the stone wall of the castle, trying to work out how to breath again without coughing. "I can't.. It won't let me..." he groaned, rubbing his face to try and get better.
"Just be glad I'm far enough away from there it's not so contagious..." he mused quietly before something seemed to get onto him, ending up leaning to the side and being quite heavily sick.

Ajax glared at the man, slowly losing his patience.
“You sure don’t make things easy, do you? Okay then, we can play that game,” Ajax growled. “Here’s how this game is going to work. Tell me what happened to you, or I’ll be glad to get Ironwing here to rip you apart like you were a wet piece of tissue. In fact, the only reason you’re still alive right now is because you might have some useful information. If want to stay in one piece, you should start explaining what happened.”

The man winced at the tone of the man, though did realise that even if the illness wouldn't kill him that this guy would.
"I don't know..." he groaned, trying to warm himself up with no success. "I was in Grizzly Grove.. I got lost trying to find the way out... Saw some light and ran in hope... Ended up right on the tip of the island..." a huge coughing fit interrupted his words, followed by a sharp attempt at a breath to hold to try and stop the coughing carrying on. "Don't know what happened... Got so cold... So cold..." he groaned, trying to curl up into a tighter ball, trying to warm himself up. "Ran back off to the Grove.. Started to feel ill... Can't get better, can't get worse... Part of the curse..."

Ajax’s face hardened as he listened to the story. It made just enough sense to not make any sense. A curse? What in the blue hell was he taking about? Maybe whatever he saw ruined his sanity. But that doesn’t explain why the air around him was colder than usual. Things just weren’t coming together, much to Ajax’s chagrin.
“And you’re sure that’s everything? Not forgetting any parts of the story?” Ajax asked him in a much less aggressive manner. “I need to know everything that happened. This may be extremely important.”

"Important to what??" he asked hysterically. "You want to report it get eye witness accounts then I'm still here!" he groaned, moving into another coughing fit, this one lasting really quite a long time.
"Just make me better... I've said all I know but.. Please..." he whined, ending up needing to lean to the side, his hand going straight into the pile of sick next to him with a groan, trying to lean the other way and wipe his hand on the grass.

Professor Luno had just been in his lab, doing work, as per usual. He had placed a dawn stone that he had recently acquired in a safe-like box with several other precious stones, all evolutionary. He didn't really collect them or anything like that, but they were quite useful to have around, so if he ever found one in his possession, he'd keep it, of course. He had at least one of every kind. One never knew when an Umbra official would require an evolved pokemon. Or even if he wanted to evolve one of his own experiements for further study. Nonetheless, evolution was vital to science, so he liked to keep the stones around. This one, however, he didn't grab just for the sake of having it. No, he never intended on getting it. However, when a rogue experiment went after it, he thought it better to keep the damned thing from getting it. He wanted the experiment back as well, but that got away with some girl. Nevertheless, he had the stone. Pleased, he took it to his lab and stored it with the others. Then he placed the bag of things he also recieved as a result of his mission and placed that one one of his many desks. After that, he released his burned Carnivine and gave it a spray of burn-heal.
With all of his chores done, and his Carnivine healing inside, Luno decided he deserved a break. A good break. He wanted to go outside for some fresh air in a place that was not infested with damned kids and damned trees. So off to the courtyard went he.
Luno, upon taking his first steps in, smelled the air and sighed.
"Ah yes. Civilized nature."
With lab coat on and everything, Luno was a ball of white in the dimly lit yard. It was night, after all, so it's only right that the sun be down and things be dim. But the moon was bursting with pride that night and there was still light to be had.
As Luno walked along, he noticed the air getting a bit more brisk.
Odd, he thought, nothing else seems to be changing with the temperature.
He stopped walking and looked around. As he did, he noticed the temperature stayed the same. He walked along and it became colder. He stopped and it stopped. He took a step back and the air warmed up a little.
Determined to find the cause of the chill, Luno kept walkign along, following the path of the cold air. Whichever direction was coldest, he went that way. Finally, he caught sight of a fellow Umbran and a... not fellow Umbran. It wasn't the usual sight to see a not fellow Umbran in the Umbran castle. He walked over to them, noticing the air getting very chilly as he did. Obviously, that was the cause. Upon reaching the pair, he first placed his hand near the man's body, finalized his guess that it was in fact the man that was freezing the air, and then noticed the blob of ick on the ground and took a step back.
"Good Lord, that's disgusting. Anyway, what's going on here? Why is he cold, why is there vomit... and why is he here?"
Luno asked these questions with no sympathy for the man, an slight bit of annoyance at the Umbran for caring for him, and a glare to kill dragon-types.

Ajax simply looked at the man piteously for a moment, then began to speak.
“Fine. I’ll see what can be done. You told me everything you know, so I suppose there’s no reason for me to kill you. But don’t expect me to do anything if the others decide otherwise. I’ve already done too much by keeping you alive.”

Suddenly, a voice rang out behind him. Ajax turned around, frowning as Luno barraged him with questions. He waited until the scientist was finished speaking, then started to explain the situation.
“I found this guy curled up on the ground right outside of the castle. Says some weird things happened to him, something about a curse.”

The man slid down, ending up laying on his side once again in the foetal position as he tried to warm himself up and tried to do something to make himself feel at all better, ending up just blanking out what the two men around him were saying.

Luno's glare morphed into a look of... suspicious, I suppose would be the best word. He walked over to the man who had just fallen down and stood over him, looking down. He gave the man a little nudge with his foot, as if half expecting him to suddenly explode into ice. As he looked at the man, Luno 'hmmm'ed and 'ehhh'ed, all while making sure to avoid the vomit puddle that posed a great threat to his white shoes.
"Curse?"
Luno's interest perked up as he heard the word. As a man of science, curses were not a good enough explanation. Sure, maybe a curse might happen, maybe, but even if it did, that was not the full explanation. It was the cause and effect that he wanted to know. The effect was clear; the man was freezing, coughing, and throwing up. But what was happening to make him do this? He had no idea.
The professor pulled one of his gloves from his coat and put it on his left hand. Luno leaned down closer to the man and touched two gloved fingers to the man's neck, but immediately retracted upon contact.
"God dammit!" he yelled as he blew on his finger, trying to warm them up.
With the initial shock over and Luno now knowing how cold the man's skin was, he reached down onc more and carefully touched his fingers to the man's neck. After gritting his teeth through the pain of the cold for a few seconds, Luno pulled his hand back.
"Well, there's that," he said, pulling off his glove and repocketing it, "he's got no pulse. No pulse means no circulation of blood and, consequently, no circulation of body heat. However, normally, people don't get this cold by just not having a pulse." He paused a moment to blow on his fingers before continuing, nonchelantly, "Also, no pulse would mean that he's supposed to be dead, but you already knew that, I'm sure." Once could assume, by the way the he was talking, that he didn't care enough about the guy enough to actually make sure he didn't have a pulse. At this point, he should be lucky he hadn't been killed by the Umbran.
Luno looked down at the man once more and used his foot to roll him over on his back, making sure to make much contact with the freezing, disgusting creature.
"You. Sicko. What were you doing before you got cold? Hm? You piss anyone off? Dive into a bucket of glowing goo? Kick a ghost? What? C'mon. If you don't let me in on the secret, I'll disect you and find out myself. Let's go, Joe." he said, snapping his fingers.

"I.." he groaned, not liking that he was having to keep repeating himself, nor the fact this man was pretty much telling him he was dead. He wasn't and there was no way he was going to die now unless one of these two killed him. Though that was seeming more and more a likely scenario.
"I ended up at the tip off Grizzly..." he whined, trying to rub his skin, make it feel at all warmer. "The very tip... And it started..." he said, as if him being on the tip of the island explained everything.
In all the excitement about the strange cold and very, very ill man it was hard to tell that a Sneasel had made its way to the Castle, starting to climb the walls in order to get inside and wreak a little havoc with stealing and messing around inside. Also if it got anything incriminating it was always fun to see if it could lead more humans this way. Those Castle Go-ers always freaked out about that...

Ajax simply watched as Luno questioned the man. Meanwhile, Ironwing observed the entire scene from afar. Since Ajax and that scientist were busy with the cold guy, he figured that SOMEBODY had to take up the guard. Suddenly, he heard a strange noise coming from one of the walls. Snapping his head in that direction, he spotted a Sneasel trying to get in and cause some trouble.

Not wishing to disturb his master, Ironwing decided to take care of this intrusion himself. He lifted himself off the ground, swiftly and silently flying towards the intruder. When he got in range of the catlike Pokemon, he struck out with a Drill Peck.
