A perfect day.
The sun was out, the breeze was soft, the lake was pure; everything was so perfect. But who would appreciate this lovely day anymore than a boy who was currently leaning closely into a flower swaying gently in the breeze.
"This is stunning," Abellio said in a soft whisper, as if trying not to disturb the flower.
The plant was a normal-looking enough thing, but the tips of its petals were blue where the rest was red. It's stem was long and skinny, and yet, it was strong enough to hold the flower up a foot in the air. Wide, flat leaves poked out from the stem.
"It's so magnificent."
There were several other in a patch with this particular one, all just alike. Abellio reached out to the root of the one he'd been looking at and pinched around its base and quickly plucked it from the ground, like ripping off a band-aid. He brought it up to his nose and smelled it, taking in and savoring the sweet aroma.
"This would make for some delicious tea," he said as he carefully put the plant in his travel bag, "or, with those petals, I bet it'd cure some status problem, don't you think so, Jay?"
Abellio glanced around.
"Jay?"
Standing up, Abellio looked by the lake, where he found a tiny Smugleaf plopped down, turned away, fiddling with something. With curiosity, Abellio walked over to his pokemon and looked over his shoulder. The Smugleaf, noticing his master, quickly turned awya and hid what was in his hands.
"Come on, Jay, lemme see." Abellio said, smiling and trying to lean the other way to see what it was.
But Jay turned away agian, still fiddlign with it. They had a playful back and forth for a while before Jay finally turned to face Abellio, a grin on his face filled with excitment, and hands behind his back. After a second or suspension, Jay held out his hands to reveal a tiny sculpture that he had made completely out of grass. The Smugleaf had plucked a few blades of grass and twisted them into a little figurine of a pokeball, using two different shades of green to form the colors and a little buldge on the from where the button was to be.
"Oh my God, Jay," Abellio said looking at it, "You're really good at that."
Jay beamed with pride and held the ball out further for Abellio to take. But as he was reaching for it, a blur ran between then, the wind from it blowing past them, and the ball was gone.
"What...?"
Jay looked at his hands, then the ground, then behind him, then under his feet, but the ball was nowhere to be seen. The two of them looked in the direction the blur went and found a Buizel floating on its back on the lake, playing with the grass ball. Jay fumed with anger at the Water-type and clenched his fists in rage. Abellio petted his head.
"Don't worry, he just likes it, that's all."
But Jay was not comforted. With a pout, he crossed his arms and stuck his nose up and away with a "Hmph." Abellio, however, calmly walked over to the side of the lake and addressed the Buizel.
"Excuse me. Hey. Um, do you mind tossing that back to me, please?"
Without hesitation, the otter pokemon tured away from Abellio and used its tails to propel himself away from Abellio and further into the lake, splashing the naturist quite a bit as he did. Now soaking wet, Abellio turned back to Jay, who was trying desperately to hold back tears from the loss of his sculpture. Abellio kneeled beside him.
"C'mon, Jay, don't cry. He really liked it, that's why he wanted it."
Jay looked up at Abellio with big, watery eyes as if to say, "But I made it for you..." Abellio was heartbroken. With determination, he stood up and ran along the side of the lake as fast as he could. Eventully, he managed to find the Buizel, floating idelly on the water, playing with the grass ball. Upon seeing Abellio, he quickly swam off, but Abellio jumped int he water and was after him. Buizel was fast, and he knew it, but he underestimated Abellio, who had strong legs from walking so much, and the determination to please his Smugleaf on his side. He chased the Buizel all around the lake until finally, exaugsted, the pokemon swam to the edge and ran out of the water. He went to Smugleaf and placed the ball in front of him before spinning his tails quickly enough to fly off and into a nearby tree. Abellio was soon there as well, even more wet than before and panting like a dog.
"There." he said between breaths. "You got your... sculpture back and... in one piece..."
Jay looked down at the ball before him, not knowing how he felt. He picked it up tenderly and it instantly unfolded in his palms, leaving only a pile of grass blades. Jay looked it it, then plopped down to the ground, letting the blades blow away and stared at the ground, sniffling quietly to himself. Abellio sat next to Jay, not knowing what to say.
"Bui?"
The Buizel poked his head out from behind the tree he had fled to. Jay noticed him and angrily shot a brigade of Razor Leaves at him. The Buizel, shocked, hid back behind the trunk of the tree as Sharp Leaves darted past him, some sticking into the tree like darts.
Slowly, the Buizel peered out from behind the tree again, then quickly ran out and behind a different tree a bit closer to Abellio and Jay. Then again to a closer one. Each time, Jay fired some Ravor Leaves.
"Jay, stop it." Abellio said. The Smugleaf looked up at him in protest.
The Buizel carefully came out from the closest tree he had managed to get to and tip-toed to the two. When he got to them, he stood before them, hands behind back and slooking down at the ground in shame. He even shyly kicked a rock.
"Buizel..." He said sadly, pulling his hands behind his back and palcing the real poke ball he had in hands on the ground and nudged it towards Jay with his foot. Jay, stunned, picked it up and held it. Then he smiled at the Buizel, who in return smiled back. Jay offered the poke ball to Abellio who took it warmly.
"Bui!" Buizel said, gesturing for Abellio to come closer, as if he had a secret to tell.
Abellio leaned down to the Buizel, who smiled and tapped the ball in Abellio's hand. A flash of light engulfed the otter and he was gone, now inside the poke ball and a part of Abellio's team.
"Why, that tricky little Buizel," the boy said with a smile. "Well, I guess I have two genius pokemon now."
Jay thought for a moment, trying to decide if he liked or disliked this event. Then, after some thought, he decided he approved of the Buizel and nodded.
"Welp," Abellio said to the poke ball. "You're part of the team now, Buddy."

... I'll be honest, I love this guy.

Maybe that's because I'm a hippie, but...

Yeah, I love him x100.
