Pokémon battles in the park were an inevitability, honestly, so it had not taken very long for the city officials to make a designated area for battles. There were still battles away from this area, of course, but more of them (hopefully) occurred here instead of the more delicate area of the park. The area was the standard size of Pokémon battle fields, and raised a few inches off the ground. It was made of smooth, cheap, and easily repairable material, which already had little gouges and burns dug into it. It clearly saw a lot of use. At the center of the platform was a kid who looked to be about twelve or thirteen, dressed in baggy shorts, a loose shirt, and a baseball cap. Typical stuff for the young trainer, really. "uh HEY! Does someone here wanna battle? I'm totally up for it! Hey, you! Do you want to battle?" The person in the over-sized hoodie he had pointed to just ignored him. He crossed his arms and sighed. "Come on! This is a Pokémon Park! Where's all the trainers?!" |

Matt winced at the loud-mouthed kid's yelling, this was a park, but why couldn't people be quieter? He watched as the kid, he didn't look to old really, challenged someone to a battle. The person he had challenged just kept walking, and the kid just kept yelling about getting his battle. Sighing, Matt stood and tucked his book away into his bag, looked like he would have to shut the kid up himself. "Hey," He said quietly, "I'll battle you." He stood up from the bench he'd been reading on and quickly crossed the gap between it and the bench. He looked at the kid for a minute, nothing special; baggy shorts, loose shirt, baseball hat. "What rules do you want to use?" He asked softly climbing onto the platform. "You can choose you're Pokemon first," He added in a tone just as quiet. |

For a moment, the kid had honestly looked surprised that someone had responded to his challenge. Then he nodded, looking as serious as a twelve (or thirteen) year old could. "Okay. Three Pokémon, one on one." After taking his end of the field, the boy took another few seconds to plan, then threw a Pokéball to the field. "Tails! I choose you!" In the center of the field was a Rattata. It sniffed, twitched, and cleaned its whiskers, then struck a determined pose, waiting for its opponent to show itself. |

Matt watched the tiny, purple rat Pokemon and smiled softly. "I have a perfect match for it," He said pulling the third Poke Ball off of his belt and gently pressing the button in the center. "Come on out Owen, it's time for your first battle," He said softly as the Poke Ball opened with a flash of blinding, white light. As the light dimmed back to its normal brightness a Geodude became visible in the center of the battle field. "Owen, use Defense Curl to start off." He said softly, not wanting his Pokemon to take anymore damage than necessary. Owen, eager to please his new trainer, quickly focused his energy and pumped his arms up and down, back and forth. Slowly a silvery sphere began to form around the rock type Pokemon, slightly obscuring it from view. The sphere grew brighter, denser until it completely hid the Pokemon from view, and then, all at once, it faded away and Owen was completely visible again. Nothing seemed to have change, but Owen would now be able to take much more damage than before, with half the effect as normal. |

The boy gulped at the presence of the Geodude, but he stood his ground. He couldn't switch out his Rattata, right? That was the rules, right? Besides, swapping out like that would look really cowardly! So the kid pointed to the Geodude and shouted: "Tails! Quick Attack!" The Rattata chirped and sped straight for the Geodude. |

"Owen, use dig to burrow under the Rattata, when you sense it above you slam into it with a tackle attack," Matt ordered calmly. Owen, used to being needed to move quickly without much notice, grunted and quickly began flinging fistfuls of dirt into the air, digging a tunnel rapidly to avoid being hit by the Rattata's attack. Soon after he began, three seconds to be precise, he disappeared into the ground, the battle platform now had a gaping hole in it. There he lay in wait, as soon as the tiny Rattata ran over where he was hidden he would spring out and barrel into it with a tackle attack. |

Tails soared over the hole, and skidded across the platform. He looked up at his trainer, who shrugged and waved towards the hole. The Rattata cautiously approached it and leaned over the hole - and got a faceful of Geodude for his trouble. Tails squeaked as he landed on the platform again, but was able to get back to his feet. His trainer, while still looking nervous, ordered his next attack: "Okay, uh, Quick Attack again! And if you hit him, use Bite!" Tails shot towards the Geodude, teeth bared, ready to barrel into him no matter how rocky he was. |

Geodude, still regaining his balance from using the tackle attack against the Rattata, took the full force of the Rattata's second Quick Attack. Matt, however, was prepared for this. "Owen, use the rubble from your Dig attack to use Rock Throw!" He called, adrenaline starting to pump through his veins. Geodude, slightly dazed, began reaching for any and all of the rubble he could reach, bits of board, rocks, anything, and threw it at the Rattata as hard and as fast as he could, he wasn't going to lose this. |

The Rattata had done the equivalent of running into a rock, so the following Bite attack hadn't exactly been the most effective and painful move. He also didn't have enough of his senses back to start dodging the rocks until some had already bumped off his head. Tails squealed and stumbled away. The kid wanted to recall him but - but maybe one more shot? "Dodge it, Tails! And Bite it again!" Tails shook his head, clearing it, and started zig-zagging towards Owen again. His movement would make hitting him more challenging, and if he couldn't be stopped, he would land a harder bite attack on the Geodude's arm. |

(OOC: Not to be rude, considering you are a mod and all, but will you stop God modding? You can't move my character's Pokemon and you can't have an auto hit for an attack...) |

((Er, where was I godmodding? Oh, wait, do you mean the bite thing? Aaah, I had thought that your not mentioning it meant it connected. >.< Admittedly, the lack of mention is also why I said it wasn't much, so you could write it as hardly having an effect on Owen, but I'll try to avoid that in the future. However, when did I move your Pokémon? I thought I had been leaving my actions open-ended enough for a reaction...)) |

(OOC: When Rattata peered over the edge of the hole, you had him attack, but I hadn't said he had yet, the Bite attack hitting, etc.) |

((Oh, sorry, when you wrote ‘as soon as the tiny Rattata ran over where he was hidden he would spring out and barrel into it with a tackle attack’, I thought that meant you had prepared/launched the attack, or at least that Rattata getting close had triggered it, leaving it up to me whether it hit or not. Sorry about the misinterpretation, then! As for that first bite attack, you had not mentioned it in your post, so I wasn’t sure what to do with it... Could we discuss more in PM or chat if there were any more problems?)) |

Geodude, surprised that the Rattata had tried to bite his rocky body again, and immediately retaliated by picking up a rock laying near his hand and smashing it against the purple rat's body. Upon impact the rock crumbled and pieces scattered around the ground. (sorry it's so short, I have to go to work. ) |

(( “Tails shook his head, clearing it, and started zig-zagging towards Owen again. His movement would make hitting him more challenging, and if he couldn't be stopped, he would land a harder bite attack on the Geodude's arm.” If he couldn’t be stopped. If. That doesn't mean that you couldn't get creative and have Owen somehow float out of the way. The whole point of that word is to say what would happen if Owen didn’t move out of the way. Never did it say that was what definitively would happen. Never in this post did Rex say that Owen wouldn’t be able to move out of the way in time, just that the Rattata was moving very quickly and it would be difficult to move out of the way. Not to mention the word would added in their, meaning your next post, Sugar, could change the outcome if you managed to make your Geodude dodge. Never was your Geodude moved and placed in line of attack, nor was there ever an auto-hit. “There he lay in wait, as soon as the tiny Rattata ran over where he was hidden he would spring out and barrel into it with a tackle attack.” Besides, isn't this exactly what Rex did? She left the post open ended, like you did here. Not to mention, it's a damn Geodude against a Rattata. You already know you're obliged to win since this is a training thread, Sugar. If it were me, I would have thrown out a grass or water type and made you work even harder for this. Instead, you're complaining about (even if it was nonexistent) one auto hit of a Rattata against a Geodude when you know you're going to win anyway? I don't mean to be rude, but you completely freaked Rex out and made her think she did something wrong and she even apologized to something she hadn't done. With that said, just calm down. No one here would ever intentionally Powerplay or Godmod. If you think something was misinterpreted, then politely ask if the post had been read correctly or just correct the person. Don't blatantly accuse someone of Godmodding. As far as Rex moving Owen out of the hole, which was your initial concern, I could see how it would be confusing for Rex with how it was worded. Like I said, just correct her and quote what was really said, or what was meant. She's a mod, she'll edit her post accordingly. )) |

((Th-thank you, Nichole)) ((ahem, I'm going to... Proceed, with the hope that things will fall back on track?)) Tails squeaked in pain, and dropped away from the Geodude. Worried as his trainer looked, though, he just pointed at the Geodude again. "You can do it, Tails! Quick Attack!" Tails shakily got to his feet, and started to unsteadily run towards the Geodude again. Truth be told, it would likely be really easy to dodge the little guy. Even if one couldn't, the Rattata was weak and tired enough that even a normal-type Pokémon would hardly feel anything from the attack. |
