A world apart from the others...

Why was it he was so different again? The reason had escaped him for several hours, a source of intense frustration to Kain, a feeling that he bottled quickly, so that the woman who stood beside him would not share in such feelings. That was his greatest fear, to share any part of his failings with one so beautiful and perfect. Compared to him, she was a goddess, a saint. While he was... so different. It scared him to think like this... but he didn't deserve her... so why did she stay?

He should simply count himself a lucky man and be done with the matter, what was the point of arguing with what is and what isn't. This was a matter of importance that they both held their ground here. They needed Pokemon, so they would get Pokemon, even if they had to wait here for days. Though... it was getting rather cold... and he wished for her not to become so. He took off his white coat and thermal jacket, handing over the latter to Mio, who quickly slid it on, zipping it up halfway. He smiled lightly, turning away from her and to the cave entrance, pulling a small round ball from his bag and shrugging his white jacket back on.

He had studied the notes on Mt Stella for several days before departing and memorized the Pokemon found there, the terrain and also the average chance of a Pokemon encounter. Inside the cave, there were a lot of Pokemon, some of which he did not want to expose his princess to, which is why they waited outside, for a certain creature that Kain had selected to appear. An Aron. In his journal he had noted several things, such as it's massive resistance to most types of attacks. In fact, only three types caused any sort of problems for it, Fighting, Water and Ground. All of which, he planned to avoid if at all possible.

And they waited...

And waited...

And waited...

Until several hours had passed, they had begun to give up hope of ever seeing an Aron come out of a cave. Kain was considering taking Mio back home and returning here himself, no matter how she objected. He did not want her catching a cold or getting hurt out here. He was expendable, she was not. A furrowed brow locked into his features as he stared hopefully at a shadow stirring in the mouth of the cave, only to be disappointed when it disappeared. And then a piercing cry flew through the air as a small piece of what seemed to be metal debris was thrown out of the cave, landing in a heap in front of the two, a man, most likely it's trainer running out behind it, sadistic look on his face.

"C'mere ya stupid little Pokemon! You make me lose a battle, I make you lose your life!"

Kain found himself staring at the Aron, their eyes meeting momentarily before something snapped inside Kain's mind. He stood, a look of intense rage on his face and fists clenched until the knuckles turned white. The man had not noticed him until Kain stood, towering over the rather short assailant, the look of burning fury in his eyes causing the man to suddenly be still.

"...Why... might I ask... are you attacking this creature?"
"U-u-um, i-it made me lose a Pokemon battle..."
"And is that... ANY excuse to strike it like you did? You are not deserving of Pokemon, in fact, you are not deserving of existence!"
"...P-please... don't hurt me..."
"...Hurt you? ...I wouldn't sink to your level of incompetence, shithead. No, instead, you will release all of your Pokemon into the wild, right here, right now, before I change my mind."
"A-alright, I'll do as you say..."

And he did. One by one, his Pokemon were let into the wild, each seemingly happy to leave such an awful trainer. And at the end, the man, who looked even older than Kain, began to cry, wishing to have his Pokemon back. And Kain, who had taken it upon himself to punish the man, felt a spark of guilt, looking onto the man in pity.

"If you want to raise Pokemon... you already know what to do..."
"Hm?"
"Raise them properly, as if they were your children. Keep them strong in the mind, body and soul, develop a bond between them all, as friends."
"Y-your right... I... don't deserve to be a trainer... instead... I just want to go home..."
"Then do as you wish, but no not bring harm upon another creature as long as you live. Why? Because I will not be so merciful the next time..."
"...Ok"

And he left, leaving behind the injured Aron as it struggled to it's feet, crawling over to Kain and Mio, who had fallen asleep during the whole ordeal.

"Hey little guy, you think I did well at that act?"
"...Ron~"
"Hm... you look like you need a bit of medical attention... MIO!"
"Huh... what?"
"We need to get back the Pokemon Center."

She stood, stretching herself and quickly removing the thick green jacket, handing it back to Kain. She seemed to take a particular interest in Aron, asking Kain all sorts of questions about the happenings that had taken place. He happily recounted the whole tale, the two sharing laughs as Aron slept off it's pain.

The lady at the desk of the Pokemon Center looked tiredly at the Aron, and then to the couple. She yawned loudly and stepped up to the large machine, flicking several switches, making a light come on at the top of the healing pod. It took the two of them several seconds to realize that Aron needed to be in a Pokeball to be healed in this way and Kain would be obliged to catch it, though if it wished, he would release it back into the wild. He pressed the button on the Pokeball, a red flash and Aron was inside, the ball producing several beeps and then one final longer note to signal that Aron was caught, at least for the time being. The tired-looking nurse in the pink gown scooped the Aron out of Kain's hands and placed it in the healing pod, before closing the large glass lid and pressing a single button on the side.

"*yawn* His injuries are rather serious but after a few minutes in here, he should heal up nicely."
"Thank you."

Fifteen minutes passed without incident, growing to twenty minutes and then to twenty-five minutes. The wait was killing them. Would he really be alright? Was all that effort for nothing? And at last they had their answer. The nurse, who now looked a little more lively, walked over to them, handing over the Pokeball,

"He had a rather badly broken leg but it's mostly fixed now, just take it easy with training and he should be all set. Take care now."
"Ah, again, thank you."

The two made their way out of the Pokemon Center, pushing open the glass doors and stepping out into the fresh, cold mountain air. Kain's first Pokemon, an Aron. Was this the beginning of a journey that would last a lifetime? Who could know?
