A Time For Thinking & Understanding; Damn These Bad Memories! . . . . .

Finally, a large expanse of space that was the meadow that Kira was currently wandering through . . . . . It certainly made a change from the over crowded forest that he had since left behind after having managed to escape it's confines. It had been a nice moment when he had been shown at least one exit from that deadly labyrinth by Rika - the Tropius that now travelled with him - if it had not been for her then Kira would have still been wandering the forest without so much so much as a hope to escape from within it's natural walls. For that he was truly grateful to the young giant for what she had done, especially considering all the trouble that had been caused to her during their first encounter.

Which was why it was now a perfect time to make it up to the young Tropius, since she was now a part of his team then now was a good a time as any to get Rika settled and taken care of. Although - it did seem that this would be some what easier than Kira originally had expected it to be. Since Kira had been expecting things to be a little tense between himself and Rika, but - surprisingly - she had been very forgiving. So much so that it seemed that Rika had already forgotten the trauma of the previous evening she had suffered, that and she was now currently ambling carefully alongside her master while kindly attempting to make a fuss of the teenager - much to Kira's annoyance and slight amusement as he allowed a small chuckle to escape him.

"Alright Rika, calm down girl . . . . . I'm fine, stop making a fuss." Kira murmured softly, soon pausing in his walking to yet again stroke the head of the young Tropius as she had since lowered her head to his level - in turn emitting a soft yet kindly cry for the attention she received, causing a small flicker of a smile to form briefly upon her master's usually stern and quiet features. Not that Kira minded of course, sure it already seemed that Rika was already starting to develop a tendancy to fuss over him more than he would normally like - but he was happy enough to makean exception in this case. Specially sincethis was probably one of the only times that Kira had received any form of female attention - apart from the one or two girlfriends he may have had of course - but it was more than he had ever received from that damn woman he had been forced to call mother . . . . .

No . . . . Enough of that . . . . No bringing up any bad memories of the past, not now. All that was over now . . . . And truthfully, it was the last thing Kira really wanted to think about too - specially as he had tried so hard to forget about it all and move on with his life as much as possible over recent years. And this wasn't the time or place to stat thinking about it either - since the last thing Kira wanted to do was depress himself for who know's how long. Which was why now he was quick in his attempt to divert his attention from these troubling thoughts, soon shifting his gaze to slowly wander around his current surroundings in which he remained.

So, let's see . . . . Well, maybe not - Kira's hopes of finding anything of interest instantly faded, just a plain oversized meadow stretched out around both him and Rika. Nothing of genuine interest, not unless you included any small clusters of tree's that lay scattered at varying points around them - And sure, there was the Forest of Atra that he and his pokemon had escaped earlier that morning could still be seen on the skyline several miles behind them and Kira certainly had no intention of going back there again in a hurry, not even if his life depended on it. But apart from that . . . . Well, truthfully there wasn't much else - but then again they were right in the middle of a large meadow, so it wasn't as if there would be any brightly coloured or lit signs to direct them out of here. At least nothing that he could see anyway - then again, why would there be? And out in the middle of no where of all places where no one would see it.

Sure for all Kira knew there could be a small town or a city not far from where he was currently standing, either that or a farmhouse of some description close by where he could ask to stay for a while before moving on. But then again - there might not be, so what would he do then if that were the case? Sure there was still several hours of daylight left but even so - the last thing Kira wanted was to continue walking after it had grown dark. But hey, there was no point in worrying about all that now - even if it meant having to spend another night out in the open, he would worry about that when nightfall came and find somewhere safe then.

So pushing all these thoughts out of his mind for now, being in no mood to be thinking further about his troubles for now. All Kira wanted for now was a break from his wanderings, not only him but his pokemon trio could do with having a little fun for now before they were forced to move on and continue any nessercary training that had to be done. Which was now why Kira had since turned his attention away from making any attempt at planning the next direction and route in which to take on his unusual journey, taking only a few brief moments to decide upon an area in which both he and his pokemon could fully relax.

And it didn't take Kira long to find a perfect place in which would suit each of their individual needs - since three metres from where the human and pokemon duo stood ran a river in which previously had gone unnoticed if it hadn't been for the human taking a closer look around. So on river - check, a large tree and plenty of shade for him to relax in - check, plenty of long grass and bushs near the waters edge - check. Perfect, all the things he needed to make both himself and his pokemon happy for now. Which was why now Kira had so quickly made his way over to the aged and twisted tree before placing his bags amongst its roots before removing the two pokeballs that rested within before releasing the pokemon that the capsules contained - one a small Marill, the other a rather tired looking Zorua.

"alright Marill, Ryuu . . . Don't worry, we're not going to do any training - at least not for now. So go ahead and try have a little fun for a while, you too Rika." Kira instructed carefully and kindly, directing his attention first to the two smaller pokemon then the Tropius besides him. And as a result of hearing what their master had to say the pokemon trio allowed themselves to relax knowing that they were being given the chance to enjoy themselved for a while - which is just what they all did. As moments after Kira had moved off to settle down in the shade of the large tree, Marill had since moved into the river for a swim, Ryuu - the small shape shifting Zorua - had gone to explore the surrounding vegetation while Rika settled herself down beside her master before proceeding to have a nap.

So upon seeing that his pokemon had actually allowed themselves to relax for now, Kira soon relaxed himself before slowly allowing his gaze to wander to the clear skies and watch as varying types of bird and bug pokemon flew past on the breeze, in turn ignoring all else around him.

Well, this place seemed like a nice enough place to be able to relax undisturbed - that and it seemed strangely quiet for such a large area too. Sure Kira wasn't exactly complaining about the peacefulness and quiet of the particular place in which he was currently resting - but at the same time it was a little unnerving. Since after the human and hid pokemon trio had arrived at this spot and decided upon resting in order to regain some strength, apart from the large flock of birds and bugs that had flown past earlier the dark haired teen had not noticed any other form of life. Which for a place of this size seemed odd, since he had expected there to be a large amount of wild pokemon to be living out here and in sight. Or at least at a distance in which could still be made obvious that some form of life was in some way present here, but so far absolutely nothing.

But then again - maybe Kira was just over reacting, just because there was no pokemon around here didn't mean that there were none that were living around in this large meadow. It was possible that there were some around but were well out of Kira's visual range, so with that probably the case there was no further reason for being so worried about this. Especially as it gave Kira a chance to actually be able to fully relax without being on high alert all the time because of having to be on a constant lookout for danger or just plain trouble. But still - something about it being so quiet caused Kira to become a little unsettled, more than what he would be like under any other circumstances. But what was bothering him so much that it was preventing him from relaxing? It was certainly puzzling, so much so that he had begun to start fidgeting in a distracted and bored way. Which didn't go down too well with the Tropius of course, since she had been quietly dozing next to her master and minding her own business - that is before she got rudely woken. Of course, this resulted in Rika being just a little grumpy - but then, who wouldn't be? Sleep was one Luxury that the general population - human and pokemon alike - could fully enjoy, whether just for a short time or for many hours.

And so, the result of being deprived of precious sleep? Well, let's just say that Rika wasn't quite as forgiving as she previously would have been. True she was willing to be a little forgiving and forget about the previous nights problems, despite the fact that she had good reason to still be angry. But for some - unknown - reason Rika couldn't bring herself to be angry about that. Specially as it probably had been her own fault and her poor judgement to take up residence by the side of a well used track - that and it could just as easily been another wild pokemon that could have attacked the young Tropius for no reason. But this time? Well, now she wasn't quite so willing to forgive for this certain occasion.

Which is why this time when Rika woke she began grumbling saoftly to herself before slowly pulling herself to her full height and to her feet before heading down to the water's edge to drink. The result of Rika doing this? Well, let's just say that what was to happen next came as an unexpected surprise to them all. Since moments after the Tropius had bent her long neck in order to obtain a few mouthfuls of water, from under the surface of the water came a sudden movement before what seemed to be a Corphish escaping the stream and landing upon the opposite bank. The result of this happening - well that was obvious, even to a blind man - a cry of both surprise and slight panic rising up from Rika within moments. Sure she was much larger than the Corphish that had disturbed her, but she had still been frightened by it.

Though upon hearing Rika's cries, it took only a matter of minutes before her companions came to her aid. Both Ryuu and Marill removing themselves from the water's edge before attempting to move nearer in order to try calm the gentle giant. Though the small pair failed before they even had a chance to try, since despite their best efforts it was the fear of being trampled that prevented them from attempting to move nearer. But despite their failed attempts all this had not gone unnoticed by Kira, as after the first cries started up he reacted quickly enough to rise to his feet before moving into Rika's path - causing her to stop and allow her master to try calm the Tropius. "Rika, easy girl . . . . it's alright, your not hurt." Kira said gently and softly, making a kind attempt to comfort the traumatized Tropius by gently stroking her head which was currently part buried within the folds of his oversized jacket.

But while they had become distracted by the events that had unfolded before them, the small group now had become unaware of the new company that had recently joined them. Up until a evil yet amused laugh began to echo around the small area - the source of this? A teenage boy having appeared by the side of the Corphish on the opposite shore, both human and pokemon watching the outcome of their prank. "What a pathetic pokemon . . . . Can't even handle a joke." the younger teen taunted, amusement filling the boys eyes which in turn received a silent and disgusted glare from Kira. "A joke?! You call doing something like that a joke? Scaring pokemon is fun to you? - More like your pathetic." Kira spat, struggling to keep the anger from his voice - but in turn failing miserably as he took the few short steps to the riverside, joined a few seconds later by Ryuu who had begun growling aggressively in response to the Corphish's angry cries. In turn Kira receiving a glare from the younger teen in response to his words.

"Me?! Pathetic?! We'll see about that - you and me battle now!" The teen demanded, his voice kept steady and even despite the obvious anger moving across the boys featues - emphasising his challange by first pointing at himself then Kira while he spoke before going silent in order to obtain a response. Which didn't take long, since this was the demand that Kira had been waiting for and had long since made his decision. Which resulted in a slight smirk forming upon his face within a matter of seconds. "On two conditions - we use two pokemon each is the first, next - if i win you leave, but if you win i leave." Kira called calmly, watching the younger teen as he considered these options.

Though it didn't appear to take long for a decision to be reached, the younger teen soon nodding his agreement to these terms. "Fine - it that's what it takes." came the answer, short and to the point. In turn receiving a slight nod of satisfaction from Kira after a few moments. So, both trainers satisfied that they were ready to face their upcoming battle soon began making their preparations to begin. First properly turning to face one another - ensuring there was sufficent space between them to serve as a battlefield, using both the land and water as part of their course.

The second thing - that took a little longer to think about, at least for Kira. Sure it had become obvious that his opponent was to use the Corphish - on account the small pokemon had moved in front of its master. Though despite Kira's hesitance to decide upon a pokemon of his own, the chance was soon taken from him - on account Rika had moved forward, having calmed down enough to wish to seek her own revenge.

So the stage was set, the players choosen - let the battle commence.

So this was it - a few moments of silence were allowed to pass between the battle ready pair before their first commands were called.

"Corphish, Bubblebeam!"

"Rika, Razor Leaf!"

So, a vortex of vicious bubbles against a flurry of sharp leaves - this will be interesting. Since the two attacks pretty much cancelled each other out in a mini explosion of water and leaf shreds.
At least . . . A lot of the two attacks got cancelled out upon impact but not all. Since fragments of the attacks remained and soon struck their respective targets - resulting in scratchs on the usually tough shell of the Corphish and sore marks appearing upon Rika's skin.

But of course - those attacks were not enough to bring either pokemon down, not quite yet anyway . . . . that would be too much to hope for.

Which was exactly why Kira's mind was in overdrive, attempting to prepare a strategy that would be useful and successful. Of course - it didn't help that Rika knew a limited number of moves that would be useful, but no matter . . . . . he would think of something.

But enough of that - too much thinking could be a distraction and a fatal one at that if he didn't make a move and fast.

"Alright Rika, now use Gust." Kira called, soon quickly listing his head after his few moments of thoughts. Sure he wasn't expecting this attack to do much - if any - damage, besides even the Corphish remained unharmed it could be an added bonus if the opponent was to get blinded by any dust that got thrown up by the wind.

Though - much to Kira's disappointment - although the gust of wind did appear to be working in the way he had hoped for, sending up a of dust and stones at the Corphish causing it to become blinded. At least - up until its master issued his next command soon after.

"Corphish, get into the water now and use Bubble." came the next command from the younger teen, sending the red ruffian pokemon diving into the water - this in turn resulting in some confusion. Since as the bubbles were released each contained a reflection of the water type - leaving both Rika and Kira unable to determine the real one.

"Rika, stay calm - just be patient. When that Corphish appears use Stomp." Kira commanded calmly and kindly, attempting to at least keep his own pokemon calm despite his own worries. Which - surprisingly - appeared to have an effect on the Tropius, keeping her mind focused on the task in hand rather than worrying about any problems that may occur.

And this is how the pair remained for the longest time, staring carefully into the waters depths to search for the hidden pokemon - not wishing to be surprised yet again.

And it would seem that their patience was to be rewarded - since despite it being a water type, the Corphish couldn't stay underwater forever. This being its downfall and possiblt the first of many mistakes to be made.

Which is why after having allowed some time to pass the younger boy had become just a little impatient and irritated from Kira not making any immediate or obvious move to attack. This impatience reflecting upon his pokemon - the Corphish finally breaking the waters surface to drag itself onto land and charging into an attack.

That is . . . . . if it had not gone straight under the feet of the Tropius - this resulting in the Corphish receiving a pounding from the prearranged Stomp. "Corphish, hang in there - use Vicegrip." came the next command from the younger teen, having since managed to recover from the shock of such an unexpected and surprisingly vicious attack - which was just about to be cut short.

Making a successful attempt at escaping the large oversized feet of Rika the Tropius, the Corphish had since attached one of its claws around an ankle. Naturally resulting in some intense pain before panic began to set in as the Tropius attempted to free itself from the painful and gradually tightening grip.

"Rika! Come on girl, its alright . . . . . use Nature Power." Kira called, a hint of worry and slight concern starting to make itself known in his voice. Though not just because of the Corphish that was still clinging to his pokemon's leg, but also due to his uncertainty of the success of this particular move.
But it never hurt to try right? And even if it didn't work, there was always always time to practice it later if they really needed to.

Though at first it appeared that although the command had been called, it didn't appear that Rika had heard her master since she was still struggling with the Corphish and causing more injury to herself. At least, this seemed the case up until she finally managed to succeed in shaking off the smaller pokemon before stumbling a little upon her now bloody and shaky legs.

So now fully able to concentrate on using her attack without the distraction of any pain - the exception being the throbbing in her legs - so the full effect of the attack could be seen. Large thorny stems soon moving up and out of the ground before first surrounding then begginning to tighten its grip upon the Corphish in an equally painful way, this resulting in the Corphish being able to move any further because of it's current situation.

And this is how the pair remained for the longest time before the stems began to loosen its grip - the reason for this being because Rika's strength was slowly fading out before dissappearing all together.
So now the attack had faded leaving both weary pokemon staring at each other for a short time, that is - right up until first the Tropius followed soon after by the Corphish collapsed in exhaustion.

This particular end to this first battle resulting in a draw in turn leaving both opposing trainers a little stunned by the outcome before finally managing to return their respective pokemon to their pokeballs.

So this was it . . . . . They both were a pokemon down and with only one chance to determine a winner. Time to take things a little more seriously - specially as they both were aiming to win this battle after their previous battle ended in a draw. Naturally this meaning to put some considerable thought into the choice of their next pokemon - of course, this always depended upon how many pokemon the individual owned.

Two or less - well, not really a tough choice. With the exception of which order to use them in, though a bad situation for any trainer if one or both pokemon had a type disadvantage or was generally weaker in some way to their opponent.
Three or more - now that was a better and more balanced team, more pokemon to choose from and more chance of having an advantage. But yet again this depended upon making the right choice of pokemon and what could get the job done.

So with all this in mind, the two teenagers actually took the time to fully think through their choices. Though even this was going to be a problem - for Kira at least. Since he was at a disadvantage in what his choice of pokemon would be, on account that his apponent knew what his remaining pokemon were while Kira was oblivious to the younger teen's remaining ones.

So ensuring that he kept this in mind, Kira made sure to attempt to choose carefully and quickly too - since it had become obvious that the younger teen had made his choice, a second capsule held loosely in his grip. But it soon became apparent that the boy was waiting for him to decide before revealing his choice. Almost as if taunting the older teen and placing him under greater pressure. Well if that was how this kid was trying to intimidate Kira - then let him try, because this kid was not going to succeed.

"Marill, its your turn - lets show this kid how things are done." Kira instructed, finally putting a voice to his decision and sending forth the small water mouse who in turn began to fidget and genarally attempt to make itself look more threatening or intimidating.
Of course - if it were to actually work, but in this case the small Marill failed miserably. Since instead of causing any form of fear in the younger teen it resulted in some amusement and a small amount of laughter - his expression speaking louder than any amount of words could. Which was exactly why instead of waiting any further the younger teen finally threw his pokeball the short distance into the air and releasing its contents - a rather shabby looking and overly excited Beedrill.

"Beedrill, settle down and focus. We are here to battle not play." the young teen instructed in an increasingly irritated way, his harshly spoken words resulting in the flying bug going silent and subdued - down to business first and play can wait.

So here they were once more, both humans facing one another again mentally preparing themselves for what was to come next while both pokemon began growing steadily more shifty and nervous as they waited for their respective commands. So once more they were prepared for their battle, though for this round it took the pair less time to decide upon when to begin.

"Beedrill, get in there quick and use Twinneedle!" the younger teen called quickly, seeming to figure that if he called out a command fast enough there was a chance it would strike before their opponents had a chance to react and - much to Kira's annoyance - that was exactly what happened next. Sure Kira had expected the kid to make some form of attempt to try and attack first, but he hadn't thought that the bug would be this fast.

Which is exactly why for the couple of seconds that the human and water mouse pair took their gaze off the over sized bee it took the oppertunity to attack. The pair of large stingers upon the bee's arms starting to take on a slight glow before the over sized bee began darting quickly forward - never staying in the same spot twice. This resulting in the small Marill being unable to keep its gaze focused on the bug long enough to make an attempt at attacking.

"Marill, Defense Curl!" Kira yelled, attempting to make his voice heard over the ever increasing and loud buzzing - at first it appearing that the command had not been heard by the small blue mouse . . . . . right up until the small Marill finally curled into a ball mere seconds before the Beedril attacked. The force of the Twinneedle causing the blue ball that was Marill to be thrown violently and painfully backwards - at least up until the attack was stopped.

"Alright Marill, use Rollout - get that bug before it gets away." Kira finally commanded, sure he could have reacted much sooner in calling out a command but guess what? He hadn't - the reason? Well, how else was he supposed to get that damn Beedrill close enough to both take the opponent vy surprise and - possibly - make any attack that Marill used that more effective. At least . . . . That was the plan, whether it worked or not was a completely different matter.

Also whether the attack was good enough to cause a lot of damage or just stun the bug long enough to buy some more time to get another attack in before the other pair could react was another thing to consider. Well - there was only one way to find out, that being to just wait and see what the outcome was to be from the use of Rollout against the now hovering Beedrill.

So . . . . Now back to the battle . . . .

Despite having been thrown back by the painful needles, thanks to its master's choice of move in which to use first did actually prevent too much damage - though not all, since some bruising had begun to form upon the site of the impact. But there had been no time to dwell on that, not since Marill went straight into its next attack - this taking less time thanks to the use of the Defense Curl.

The main thing Marill needing to fus on being to rapidly speed up during rolling along the grond - which considering the short distance between the two pokemon the water mouse did well. The blue ball now becoming a speeding blue blur that charged right into the opposing Beedrill - the result of this being that the bug was actually squashed repeatedily against the ground by a pokemon a quarter of its own size.

But ignoring this little detail about the difference in size and weight, the attack had the desired effect on the Beedrill - knocking it down and actually succeeding in temporarily stunning the bug. Or at least enough that it appeared that it would take time to react in any way or respond to any of its trainers many attempts to get the Beedrill to attack.

"Marill, now use Water Gun!" "Beedrill, pull yourself together! Use Poison Sting!"

Alright, so maybe not the best timing in the world for both humans to call out a command to their respective pokemon - on account that they both were fighting to be heard, this resulting in the words seeming in-comprehendible to any other being. But not their pokemon - both Beedrill and Marill had been expecting their humans to do something like this.

And because both pokemon were prepared they were able to proceed with their respective attacks - Well . . . . . Maybe not completely prepared. Since the Beedrill was still a little dazed from where it had been partly crushed a few moments earlier by the Marill - this naturally resulting in the bee having a delayed reaction time. This meaning that despite the previous bursts of speed it was no longer possible since it was the bee's wings that had been hurt most.

Meaning that the bug was unable to easily or successfully dodge the oncoming jet of water that had since been released by Marill, only able to prolong the time in which the attack reached it. A flurry of small poison darts halting the water jet for a matter of seconds before being knocked aside so the liquid could continue its course, soon colliding with Beedrill and sending the bug falling into the river.

This attack along with the pain that the Beedrill was already in causing the bug to finally faint as its exhausted and beaten body to slowly float to the surface. Much to the younger teen's dissapointment - having expected things to have gone differently, now going pale and remaining silent before returning the bug to its pokeball.

So the results of the battle did cause a lot of dissapointment for the younger teen - the boys previous confidence to actually win slowly failing him. But for Kira, his unexpected with came as a plesant surprise - having been prepared for a loss or another possible draw. But a genuine win? that was even better.

Of course, it took some time for this to gradually sink in fully - it not seeming real, at least not until Marill had come over to him and begun tugging him. "Hey Marill . . . . good job buddy . . . . you did great . . . . " Kira murmured, carefully moving down to the water mouse's level to gratefully pat it's head for a few minutes in a kind way.
Though while doing this small task in which to congratulate his pokemon, the raven haired teen had since lifted his gaze to the spot in which the younger boy had been standing. Finding the opposite bank empty of life and the young teen in question fading from view with what appeared to be a pile of some kind lying a few metres from Kira.

Of course - this gained Kira's attention and curiousity, but he wasn't about to make any move towards the pile of material. He was too careful to do something stupid like that - but the same couldn't be said for Ryuu. Since the Zorua was overly curious - warily moving nearer, the shape - shifter's nose twitching as it tested the air.

But upon closer inspection maybe they didn't need to worry so much - as it appeared the fabric was indeed a silk - like scarf along with a bunch of Wiki berries within its folds. Upon finding the items to be pretty safe the Zorua was careful enough to bring them back to Kira once more - who in turn studied the items before placing them into his bag.

One BP to Rika and Marill, though Marill's battle could have been a tad longer since it was a fully evolved Pokemon that Marill battled.
Approved finding of scarf plus "bunch" of Wiki berries. I expect an actual number naturally.
