Find help, she told him as she gently awakened their charges. He had watched as his twin whispered to their younger selves that they needed to get ready for an adventure to be remembered. As the blue and red Dragons groggily responded with curious chirps, he brushed against his twin with worried affection. His twin placed her head against his and shut her eyes as he did. Protect the children.

The elder Latios glanced behind him at the eagerly following pair of Eon Pokemon. They vaguely remembered their elder Latias promising an adventure if they followed him and so they did, accepting the indirect order easily in their half asleep states. Danger will come then go, and when that happens, they can return.

Please be safe.

It was then that an inquiring chirp decided to break his train of thoughts and catch his attention. Why had they left elder Latias behind? It was simple, really. It was the Latios’ duty to teach the young more about the lives they must live and the responsibilities that come with their being what they are. While the Latios did so, it was Latias’ duty to watch over the home and protect it from intruders. Both responsibilities, as dull as they may sound, are dangerous.

But why, the younger Latios pressed, was the adventure outside of Hoenn? The answer to that was simple as well. This adventure was different from the adventures other twins would have- this adventure was special. A special adventure for a special pair of twins, right? Much to the elder Latios’ relief, that seemed to satisfy his younger counterpart.

The elder watched, the look of wariness in his eyes softening as worry receded to the edges of his mind. Find help. She had told him. Protect the children. She had insisted...

It felt right to the younger Latios to be told that he and his twin were special. And he would have bought the reason if hadn’t known the truth of the matter. Was it really so serious that his elder had come up with such a smooth lie? Would he learn to lie as easily in case of a similar situation?

He had kept his discovery to himself, for some reason not even daring to tell his twin of it, though he was certain that she was aware of the air of reluctance about him. Perhaps this was the first step to mastering lies. And so the younger male Eon Pokemon dutifully followed his elder, poking fun at his twin all the while, as they continued to race after their leader.

His mind continued to return to the truth all the while.

It was late that night, before they had been seen off for their adventure, that the problems arose. The younger Latios had been sleeping soundly beside his twin, exhausted by the nonstop play during the day, when a disturbance brought him to waking. With a quiet yawn, he lifted his head to peer into the darkness of the night, it being cold and cloudy with threats of rain, and he wondered why he had woken up.

Just when he thought it was nothing, he heard it- it was a familiar battle cry only low and muffled. His elder counterpart was in a battle somewhere in the distance and seemed to be trying to avoid waking him and his twin up. Blinking the sleep from his eyes, he concentrated on his curiosity to speed up the waking process before carefully untangling himself from his sister. Once done, he attempted manipulating what little light he could, eventually deciding he would instead toy with the darkness, and disappeared into the night.

What he saw confused him.

His elders were both locked in battle against this group of trainers- wasn’t it their duty to protect the humans of Hoenn?- with each human using two Pokemon. It was obvious that the elder twins were outnumbered, though neither showed any signs of weakening, and it appeared that this held no important matter.

Eventually the shadows of passing clouds enveloped the battle scene causing the combatants to pause as they waited to be able to see again. What happened next made the humans speak words he had never heard before and didn’t understand. He did, however, understand what had just happened.

The elder Lati twins had melted into the shadows of the night and left the battle more than likely to reach him and his sister. He hesitated returning, however, and instead warily circled the four humans. They were talking about capturing the Latios and Latias that had just escaped, but why would humans try to catch legendaries?

As the people talked, he learned more and more of the darkness in people’s hearts and his blissful ignorance slowly evaporated. Humans weren’t meant to be protected, though it would someday be his duty to go to the general population’s aid when the need arises, and they weren’t creatures to trust. No, far from it.

And so he turned away to return to Latias’ side, eyes as dark as his realizations, without sparing a glance to those that wished him harm. Arriving at his twin’s side, seeing how neither of their caretakers had appeared yet, he settled back down and shut his eyes without much hope of sleep. It would only be a few hours later, just as he was finally falling asleep, that elder Latias would coax them to wake up.

It would only be a few hours later that he and his sister would flee from home in hopes of finding somewhere safer to hide. And, little did any of the three know, it was during those few hours of escaping the Hoenn region that elder Latias would be captured to keep the hunters busy.

Something was wrong.

The smaller Lati twin could sense it as soon as she was wakened to go on an adventure. She blinked sleepily, raising her small paws to her eyes to rub them. When she opened them, they were brightly shining with what she hoped looked like excitement, wanting to keep her elders from worrying too much that she had caught onto the fact that something had gone amiss.

Latias looked back to her elder counterpart once more before she and her twin left on their so called 'special adventure.' She smiled sadly before propelling herself forward, into the elder Latias, arms spread for an affectionate hug. She nuzzled her head against her elder, looking up with sorrow reflecting in golden eyes. ~Stay here and wait for us...~ she implored, not taking no for an answer.

The elder hesitated for a second, her breath catching in her chest before dipping her head, nodding. She nuzzled the younger Lati once more before gently pushing her away, smiling at the young Eon Pokemon. ~Of course.~

The younger Latias blinked away tears that started to form at the edges of her eyes, burying her face into the down of her elder for a moment longer before allowing her to be ushered toward the elder Latios. She settled into her position next to her twin sniffling a bit before the trio left behind their home, and everything the young Latias knew.

In the air, from behind the elder's back, Latias shot her brother a knowing look, sensing that he was aware of something larger at hand as well. Her cheerful grin faded as worry seeped through her mind. Something was horribly wrong, she knew, but she didn't know what. Desperately, she wanted to return to the elder Latias, to see if she was still waiting for them to return, but she knew what was expected of her.

They were to explore, to learn the ways of life, and about how their own lives would turn out, and of their destinies as Eon Pokemon. Even knowing this, knowing that it was a tradition, a familial obligation to follow through with the journey.

That journey was supposed to take the Lati twins deeper into Hoenn, not away from it.

Latias' eyes widened as she looked down to the ocean beneath them, the waves roaring relentlessly as they approached a new land mass. ~What's that...?~ she asked suddenly, nothing but curious about the new region they grew closer to. It even served as a wonderful deterrent from the nagging feeling that something incomprehensibly bad was happening around her.

The elder Latios, having been lost in his thoughts once again, shook his head a bit to clear his mind and focus on the quickly passing surroundings. Up ahead, gaining more and more land mass, was an island he hadn't been aware was there. No wait, he had known about this region.

He had learned of its existence several years back, seconds before the current pair of twins were born, when a Latios and Latias pair had contacted everyone. They were the truly legendary Eon Pokemon that everyone looked to. And they had died.

~Aerei.~

Was it wise, bringing the young Eon twins here where their previous lives had died? There was no way to tell at this point, however, so he pushed the memory of his brother and sister dying due to experiments done to them by a mad man. Years had passed so surely that lunatic was no longer around; he hoped.

~That's our destination. We'll land to rest soon, then the special adventure can begin.~

And so they continued, now flying low and invisible, until he found a nice clearing to land in. The sun was setting by now, they had certainly flown a considerable distance, and no doubt the younger Latias and Latios were tired. Circling around the pair, eyes darting about suspiciously, he gently told them to get some rest while he went out to gather food.

How could he have known that he would bring more than just that?

~Where are we?~ Latios inquired as he mimicked what his elder had done and circled the clearing. ~Everything seems so dark and uninviting...~ Although he was far from scared, for he was still preoccupied with his dark thoughts, the feeling of foreboding still slipped an icy grip around his heart.

It was almost like he had been here before. That was a silly thought, however, and so he settled down close to the center of the clearing. He was ready to take a nap before the real adventure began. If something happened and he wasn't prepared with enough energy, he feared something would happen to his twin and it would be all his fault.

That worry was only emphasized by the feeling in the back of his mind that told him he had been in this region before. ~I'm looking forward to going home when we're done here.~

Once landed, Latias let her gaze drift around the area wearily. She watched the male Eon Pokemon both circle the clearing, checking for danger. As soon as the elder Latios moved to leave, telling them to get some rest, Latias frowned, preparing to protest. Before she managed to form the words, however, the Latios had disappeared into the darkness of the unfamiliar terrain.

~Aerei...~ she repeated softly, both in answer to her twin's question and to get a feel for the name. She frowned. Something was strange about it. She glanced about the dark area nervously, slowly bringing herself closer to her twin in the center of the clearing.

As soon as Latios mentioned the dark and uninviting air, Latias dipped her head, nodding her agreement before looking around once more, peering into the darkness. She felt as if something was watching from nearby, but shook her head slightly, trying to convince herself that nothing was there. She couldn't see or sense anything nearby, and the two Latios had checked the area. It had to be fine.

~I can't wait til we return to Hoenn...~ she seconded, closing her eyes for a moment. When golden eyes opened again, she appeared wide awake, looking to her twin anxiously. ~Think...~ she began, hearing the fear in her words before pushing them away and continuing, ~Brother will return soon?~

She settled down a bit next to her twin, taking a deep breath as she tried to feel sleepy. Sure, she felt tired from the journey, but something was bothering her. Even without pinpointing what it was, she could feel fear creeping through her, trying to cloud her mind and judgment. She still couldn't shake the feeling she was being watched in this unfamiliar clearing.

Shivering for a second, she pressed herself against her twin, drawing comfort from the one familiar element of the strange wilderness of Aerei and tried to force herself to sleep, closing her eyes and curling up. Soon, she felt sleep starting to take its hold over her and was suddenly relieved as she surrendered and drifted into a light slumber, hoping that when she woke, it would be by the elder Latios returning.

~He will definitely be back soon...~ Latios yawned tiredly, having slept less than his twin, before drifting off into a fretful slumber. It was interrupted soon after by shouting. But wait, were these shouts from his dream, or from outside? Blinking sleep out of his eyes, much like he had done not long ago, he looked around in attempt to collect his bearings.

Latios had no sooner fallen asleep by his comforting twin's side, as far as he knew, before it was interrupted. The moon was already high in the sky, their elder still unseen, when he realized who was shouting. ~Elder Brother!~ Panic welled up in his chest as he haphazardly shot into the air, potentially jolting Latias awake, as he shouted for their elder brother once again.

This time he was answered, though it wasn't an answer he had been expecting, and the young male Eon Pokemon could feel the adrenaline rushing through his veins and enhancing his senses. ~Run!~

~Huh?~ Latios muttered as he nudged his twin, unsure where to go, and tried to lead her out of the clearing. It was then that he started to hear the howls of triumph from predators mixed with the shouting of their trainers and his heart nearly skipped a beat.

Whatever was going on, it was dangerous and he needed to protect his twin. He had failed once and couldn't afford the repeat in this dreadful region. Or, at least, that's how he felt about the matter. ~Where do we go!~ Even though he was speaking telepathically, he had let out an audible cry and heard it crack in his fright.

It was so dark, he couldn't see, and he didn't know his way around. ~Sister!~ He cried out, emotions running high and heart pounding so loudly against his chest he was sure everyone within a mile radius could hear it. Then something wet hit him on the head causing him to hiccup a Dragonbreath attack and light a tree.

The tree burst into flames instantly and caused the innocent inhabitants to flee their shelter, their shrieking unbearably loud for the young and confused Latios, before more wet drops found their ways to his blue and white body. It was just rain, thank the elders, and he felt beyond embarrassed for his panicking.

Fire danced about on the tree, lighting their surroundings to reveal a mountain some distance one way and more forest the other, giving signal to their current position. Of course Latios didn't think of that, more interested in figuring out where to go, when he spun around to face his twin. ~Which way?~

In the distance, they could hear the elder Latios' outraged cries as well as the pained shrieks of trainer and Pokemon alike.

Latias woke with a start, her pillow suddenly shooting out from underneath her. She bilnked groggily, raising her head to look around, only to hear shouting. Immediately, she levitated up, eyes wide and full of fright. ~Brother...? What's going on? Big brother?!~

She looked around in fear, completely disoriented, only to hear the command to run. Blinking, she swung around, searching for her brothers, wincing at the shouting she could hear nearby. ~Brother!~ She closed her eyes for a brief second, focusing in on her brother's presence.

When she locked onto him, she immediately felt a wave of panic, causing her own heart to race more. She flew as fast as she could in his direction, only to stop at the sight of a Dragonbreath lighting a tree. A startled cry tore itself from her, only to be drowned by another shout, this time closer than before.

She spun around, trying to find the source of the shouts, only to hear her brother call out to her. She looked over her shoulder, seeing the silhouette of Latios against the flaming tree and blinked, suddenly feeling a wet drop on her head, evoking another startled shout. ~Big brother!~ she cried, looking to where the elder Latios had commanded them to run. She hesitated a moment, wanting nothing more but to fly back, to save him. ~We can't--~ The smaller twin was cut off by another round of screams.

The rain was starting to pick up, pounding down and disorienting Latias as her mind scrambled to piece together everything that was happening. She was quickly beginning to feel quite overwhelmed by the chaos. Was this their special adventure? Were they being tested? She shook her head and squeezed her eyes shut, trying desperately to clear her mind.

Obey elders.

That rule drifted through the cacophony of sounds and thoughts clouding her mind. She latched onto the two words, focusing wholly on obeying her elder brother. He said run, and that's exactly what she planned on doing.

She flew forward as quickly as possible, touching her brother's arm as she sped past him in the direction of the mountain. ~This way!~ she cried out, not looking back to see whether or not he was following.

As relieving as it was to see that his twin had found him, the howling and screaming echoing all around them washed away the feeling and drowned it. As she brushed by him, whispering a direction, he spun and chased after the Latias. Before he got very far, however, he glanced back and shouted over his shoulder, ~Sorry tree!~

Even when he was in a complete state of panic and fear, he still had the decency to apologize for doing unnecessary damage. On any other day, Latios would have been proud for his remembering to be courteous and bragged to his twin for his good work. Why couldn't tonight have been any other night?

Pushing that thought to the back of his mind, reminded himself that comparing then to now wouldn't help him in his current situation, he concentrated his attention on his red and white twin. They were flying towards the mountains, it was raining, and he could have sworn he just saw lightning.

And with his luck, he'd get struck by the lightning.

Doing his best to keep his mind alert and empty enough to take in what he was seeing, the male Eon Pokemon looked around himself and his twin. It was then that he noticed a shadow shudder nearby and, without meaning to, he shrieked in surprise. Something was following them closely and they hadn't noticed it.

Frantically looking around, he thought he spotted an opening into the mountain far up, and sped up to fly beside his twin. ~Sister! There's a cave! Go invisible!~ That said, he reached for Latias' hand with his own and disappeared as they passed under the shadows of a tree.

He was still being pelted by the rain, keeping it pretty obvious where he was, but the Pokemon thought nothing of it. He'd dance in the rain it that would help ensure the pair's safety. If his hand had reached Latias, then he would lead the latter to the cave he had spotted and take hopeful shelter within it.

Once inside, he'd become visible once more and collapse onto the cave's floor. The cold floor would only emphasize the fact that his entire body was freezing, the rain sliding off his sleek form like a waterfall, and he shuddered visibly. ~Sister?~ Latios' telepathic voice was low, as if afraid to awake what couldn't hear him, and he hesitantly lifted his head to look around. Where had they led each other?

Normally, the smaller Eon Pokemon would giggle at her brother's actions when he turned around, apologizing to the inanimate tree for lighting it on fire. She would have normally teased him for apologizing to a tree as well. She couldn't manage to do so, however, because of the chaos ensuing around them.

The Pokemon gave a startled cry when a flash of light temporarily blinded Latias, followed by a deafening roar of thunder, which reverbrated within her body, causing her to shiver uncomfortably. Latias immediately stopped at the sound, waiting for her brother to be next to her before she started flying once more, this time alongside the Latios.

She shook in fear, looking to her brother, only to hear his loud shriek, which caused her to do the same. Her eyes darted around, frantically trying to locate what was causing Latios to be so afraid. ~Brother...?~ she began timidly, only to hear her twin's order.

Latias obeyed instantly, focusing on reflecting the little light she could to fade away into the night, taking her brother's hand just as the two seemed to vanish into thin air. She looked to the cave nervously, contemplating saying something, but she felt herself pulled forward into the depths of the cave.

At least the cave would provide shelter from the rain. The Pokemon followed obediently into the darkness, looking around warily. The storm still raged, thunder, lightning, and rain pounding outside, causing Latias to flinch with every crack.

Inside the cave, Latias reappeared after her twin did, falling against Latios in exhaustion. She shivered, looking up to her brother, worry filling her eyes as she pressed her head against his neck. She took in a deep breath, trying to slow her racing heart back to a normal level.

~Brother...? What's happening?~ She pressed closer to her twin, hoping to warm up, as well as provide warmth to the Latios shivering just as much, if not more than she was.

Another sudden peal of thunder echoed throughout the cave, earning a scream from Latias as she ducked her head, covering her ears and squeezing her eyes shut. Maybe this was all just a dream... A horrible dream that she would wake up from.

The sound of her brother's telepathic voice made her realize otherwise.

Slowly, the Pokemon lowered her hands, opening her eyes to look to Latios solemnly as she forced back tears. This was their reality now. They were lost, far away from home, away from their big brother. Noticing she was shaking quite visibly and violently, she frowned, closing her eyes once more in a childish attempt to convince herself that she was not where she really was. If she couldn't see it, then it wasn't real, right?...

His sister's question of what was happening was all he needed to be reminded how little she actually knew. Should he tell her why they really left? Should he just let things continue on with how they were? Neither choice appealed to him, though he could hardly call either a choice, and he couldn't bare the thought of hurting his twin with the consequences of either.

And so it was a relief when his twin screamed in fear because of the thunder and lightning. ~Well, at least that's familiar.~ He chuckled weakly to Latias, watching as the latter squeezed her eyes closed to shut out the world, and scooted closer so that he was partially hugging her. They both needed the comfort of the other's presence.

There was silence for a moment, besides the ragged breathing from further in the cave as well as the thunder and rain outside, as Latios contemplated once more telling his twin everything he knew. I have to tell her. He convinced himself with a shaky breath. She needs to know.

~Latias you-~

He was cut off then, much to the young male's terror, as three ear piercing Screeches bounced off the cave walls and battered at the unsuspecting pair. Latios himself screamed in response to the Screeches, swiveling his attention to further into the cave just as lightning flashing and revealed a Hydreigon glaring with three pairs of eyes down at them. ~Dear Elders...!~

What was that thing! Two of its heads were growling menacingly at them, one watching Latias and the other watching Latios, while the middle head peered down at both of them with saliva dripping from its mouth. Three pairs of glowing red eyes were what he could see the clearest, with and without the lightning lighting up the cave, and they frightened him.

No, more than frightened, downright terrified him. They had never encountered such a Pokemon before, assuming that was a Pokemon, and it was very much bigger than him. Was... Was he expected to fight that thing? There was no way he could have beaten that thing.

The larger Eon Pokemon shuddered at the thought of having to battle, having never seriously done so before, and was tempted to drag his twin out of there. But then he remembered that the only reason they were even in that cave was because he led them there.

Latios, the supposed to be guardian brother, had led his twin right into the maw of danger. Anger directed at himself surged through him as he lifted from his twin and turned to face the Dark Dragon. With a war cry, he remembered his accidental usage of Dragonbreath and called forth that attack.

It seemed to anger the larger Dragon, the Pokemon partially evading Latios' attack in the small space it had, before one head lunged forward to snap its jaws around his neck. With a shout of trepidation, the blue and white Dragon instinctively threw up a Protective barrier and flinched at the impact.

At that second his red eyes glanced towards Latias and he felt a sheepish smile reach his unnoticeable lips. ~Peace of cake.~ As confident as he might have sounded, he certainly didn't feel it. Attention returning to the matter at hand, he felt the anger start to mix with panic and suddenly he didn't remember how to use Dragonbreath.

What a way to disappoint.

When that thing attacked again, there would be a chance of it hitting his sister. That thought in mind, he lifted into the air and dashed forward, hoping to keep the Dragon's attention on him, and giving his sister a chance to escape. In attempts to use Dragonbreath, he started hiccuping dragonic energy in a way that he hoped looked like he was prepared to use it.

And it worked. Worked so well that the Hydreigon loomed dangerously over the pair of Eon Pokemon causing Latios to try to shrink in size. This was crazy! This was insane! This very well might have been the death of them. At that moment, the Brutal Pokemon lunged forward, all three heads lowered and aimed at him, in a Head Smash.

In his terror, he took the hit and went flying towards the back of the cave. A cry of anguished pain escaped his lips as he slammed against the wall and he hit the ground with a terrifying thud. Latios had stopped moving, the distance between himself and his twin making it difficult to tell if he was breathing.

But Hydreigon was still breathing. And Hydreigon now had all eyes on Latias. As if to emphasize this point, lightning flashed again.

Latias relaxed a bit as she felt her brother's comfort, peeking up at him and smiling weakly at his joke. She nodded, suddenly realizing she was beyond tired. She took in a deep breath and released it, repeating the process until she was mostly calmed down. A few more deep breaths and she felt her eyes closing and sleep slowly begin to cloud her mind.

The voice of her brother brought her back to reality once more and she peered up sleepily at him, only to be jolted awake by three loud Screeches that reverbrated within the cave. She shrieked as well, suddenly shooting up into the air and staring up at the large monster in horror.

~Wh-what's that?!~ she cried out, only to see a Dragonbreath thrown at the Hydreigon, evoking another startled cry as the Pokemon put her hands to her ears again. She drifted backwards, eyes wide with horror as she did so.

What mortified her even more than the sight of the dragon, however, was the fact that her twin attacked it. ~Run!~ she cried, attempting to fly in the direction of the cave's mouth. She let out yet another cry when a blue and purple tail flew in front of her, blocking her path.

~Brother!~ She searched for a path to escape, suddenly spotting her twin from behind the Hydreigon, and it was aiming an attack straight for him. She watched, paralyzed in terror as the Brutal Pokemon sent Latios flying into a stone wall. ~Lati--~ she began, only to stop as soon as she realized three pairs of eyes were staring down at her.

~No!~ she cried, flying back and into the darkness. Another flash of lightning and a round of deafening thunder dulled her senses momentarily. In that moment, it seemed as if all that could go wrong did.

The Hydreigon roared, dropping its middle head down to her level, sniffing at the Eon Pokemon. Its warm, rancid breath blew straight into Latias' face, but the Pokemon was much too frightened to react. Tilting its middle head, the Dark Dragon bared its fangs, hissing down at the smaller Eon.

Latias fell to the ground, unable to keep herself midair in her fear. She trembled violently as her eyes stared up, although her mind was on Latios the whole time. ~Latios... Brother?~ she called tentatively, her view of the blue twin entirely blocked off by the massive dragon in front of her.

The Hydreigon suddenly lifted its massive head back for a second, roaring once more before one of the smaller, mindless heads shot out to grab Latias by the neck.

Latias flinched back, heart pounding so hard in her chest that she could've sworn it was trying to escape. She closed her eyes one last time, weakly calling out, ~I'm sorry...~ She sucked in one last breath, preparing for the worst and bracing for the attack, all the while thinking of her twin.

Another roar echoed in the cave, sounding close as it mixed with another peal of thunder. Latias could see light through her eyelids, though if that was from lightning or an attack, she didn't know. What she did know, however, was that there was no pain. Strange, wasn't dying supposed to hurt?

The Eon Pokmeon cracked open one eye tentatively, only to see the monster in front of her standing, all three heads looking into the depths of the cave warily, its tail lashing angrily behind it.

A sudden blast of oddly colored flames came flying out of the inky darkness, striking against the Hydreigon and causing it to Screech angrily once more and blast the same attack back. One head looked down to Latias, staring blankly and hissing at her. It jabbed forward, maw wide as it tried to snap up Latias.

Another blast of flames appeared, from closer behind her, and she felt herself suddenly scooped up into a pair of jaws. She shrieked in horror and anticipated nothing but mind numbing pain as the battle between Hydreigon continued. Another blast of flames came from nearby, causing her to flinch back at the heat. ~Brother! Help!~ she begged, only to find herself dragged deeper into the cave by the larger Hydreigon.

All the noises seemed to be muffled to the point of their possibly just being remnants of a horrible nightmare. One moment everything hurt like there was no tomorrow and the next the pain disappeared as if that tomorrow had finally arrived. Vaguely he heard his twin's voice, far off in his mind, as his consciousness wavered.

You're not done yet!

It came as a surprise, hearing his elder's voice ring crystal clear in his mind, when the noises suddenly started to make sense and he abruptly felt all the pain he had accumulated from his short battle with the Hydreigon. Lifting his head, Latios dared to open his eyes and see what was happening.

This proved to be good timing for the remaining Hydreigon was quite angry for losing half its prey. And, quite frankly, it was about to lose the other half. At that moment, with the little light he could gather for reflecting, he rendered himself invisible. Seconds after he did so, one of the heads swiveled to look his way.

Unfortunately he had yet to move and so he was literally a sitting duck at the moment. The Brutal Dragon was confused, its temper raising viciously, as the other heads turned to look as well. Seeing nothing, the Pokemon carefully turned and crept agonizingly slowly towards Latios.

The middle head leaned forward, reaching towards Latios' and causing him to cut off his breathing in mindless fear, and the mouth widened to its full length. Latios shut his eyes, pleading to any of the elders that could hear him to save him, when he heard the audible snap of the Hydreigon's jaws centimeters away from the tip of his face.

Eyes fluttering open in surprise, he watched as a flurry of dark blue dashed by, tinging the air with a freezing temperature, and striking at the Brutal Pokemon. Red eyes strained to keep up with the fast moving creature as the Dark Dragon reared back, heads snapping at air in confusion, when he noticed a shadow forming from the entrance of the cave.

To his horror, it was the shadow of a human. It was a male human, dark hair, with brown, black, red, and green colors throughout its body. And those eyes, those glowing narrowed eyes, seemed to be void of anything. How could that human show no fear when in the presence of two beasts, one apparently smaller and quicker than the other, and instead tilt his head a bit as if curious?

"Ellina, another lower the temperature with an Icy Wind before doing a Swords Dance."

The human commanded which greatly puzzled Latios. Who was that crazy human talking to? And then it dawned upon him that this Elina was the smaller beast fighting the Hydreigon. This was a trainer! Dulled rage gave the Eon Pokemon strength enough to lift off the ground and dash towards the human.

Initially he had planned to slam into the dark teen. But then he noticed a little Pokemon, it appearing to be a Bagon, peeking up from the trainer's shoulder and noticed with a jolt that it had the same eyes as the trainer. That male human couldn't have been human if it had the exact same eyes, color and expression, as the Bagon.

At the last second, as he tried to make sense of what he had just discovered, Latios swerved around the teen only to lightly brush the Bagon on the head. Due to this sudden movement, though mostly from the shock of an even greater confusion, the young Dragon's energy left him and he soon found himself propelling down the mountain at a frightful speed.

As he was free-fell, he contemplated his discovery of the trainer and Bagon. Same eyes, so same species? One looked human though and the other a Dragon. ~Oh Latias, I wish you were with me!~ As far as he knew, his cry would go unheard as he silently stirred himself to spiral safely downward.

And then he blinked as a flash of lightning caught him off guard, he had completely forgotten about the conditions of the place, and he hit an air pocket which disrupted his flight pattern completely. Soon enough he found himself being tossed around wildly, no longer able to tell up from down, until at last he hit something solid.

What he had hit, however, was the tight weaving of branches. Crashing through, his body paused a few feet off the ground before finally dropping. Latios refused to move. He was tired, aching, freezing, and alone. Dreadfully alone. The worst that could have happened, happened.

But it wasn't over yet. With determination, he struggled to push himself off the ground only to flop back down. There was too much pain to allow him to concentrate on flight. Taking a shuddering breath, Latios shut his eyes and did the last thing he thought he would ever willingly do: he took the form of a human child.

Peeking a red eye open, he peered down at himself and gasped silently at the difference. He had human hands and legs, wearing muddy blue cargo pants, white tee shirt, a white gold necklace with a ruby pendant shaped as a triangle, and navy blue running shoes. Later on he would learn that his hair was an attractive dark blue.

This was dreadful! It was so dreadful, in fact, that he started crying right then and there. He had little information about his and the others' whereabouts. That bit of information being he was somewhere on a mountain.

Meanwhile, back in the cave, Yuki had watched as Elina unleashed an icy breath of wind on the Hydreigon, dancing around it gleefully while sharpening her claws. He had already struck the Dark Dragon with an Ice Punch before the Icy Wind so he was sure he Pokemon was already on its last leg.

And the Brutal Pokemon seemed to have factored this in for it lunged towards his Sneasel, a Head Smash being its last resort. This was no problem though. "Back to the wall. When it's close, Agility out of its reach and let it slam into the side of the cave. Finish it with another Ice Punch for good measure."

Elina was more than eager to follow through with her orders. Patiently waiting as the Hydreigon dashed towards her in hopes to crush her, she was practically floating off her toes in preparation to dance out of reach. Just when it looked like the Hydreigon had her, she literally skipped away, doing a slight cartwheel while she was at it, and laughed outright at the opponent.

With the opponent dazed from slamming into the cave wall, Elina pranced forward and raked her icy claws down the Dragon's side and watched in satisfaction as it moaned before dropping to the ground, fainted. The battle was already over. "Good."

Pleased with herself, having effortlessly defeated a Dragon on her own, she performed a lanky bow before realizing that her body was glowing just like the Razor Claw which hung around her neck. A moment later, she had evolved with sharper claws, a full headdress, and now down to two tails instead of her previous three. With a quirked brow, Elina peered up at her trainer and grinned sadistically.

"Very good."

Latias whimpered from her position in one of a Hydreigon's mouths. She contemplated moving to try and squirm out of the Dragon's mouth, only to have that thought thrown out of her of her mind by the mindless head tightening its hold on the Eon Pokemon, forcing out her breath as she struggled to draw in breath. After a few long seconds, she squeaked, feeling her head start to spin from the lack of oxygen and fell limp, semi-conscious in the jaws of the Brutal Pokemon.

This seemed to tip the Hydreigon off that it had too strong of a grip, slackening its jaw just enough for Latias to be able to breathe. The middle head turned to look at Latias, snorting a breath of warm air in her face before deciding that, aside from weak, the Pokemon was perfectly fine.

Latias felt the air, dizzily searching through the inky darkness trying to find the source of the warmth. Of course, with the darkness of the cave, she couldn't see anything at all. The Pokemon frowned, tears threatening to flood her eyes once more as she thought about her brother. Was he safe?

~Brother...?~ she tentatively called out, ignoring the nagging voice in the back of her mind telling her he was far away, that she'd never see him or Hoenn again. She looked around, trying to discern her surroundings. If she could at least figure out where she was, what it looked like, and she could contact her brother, they could find each other, right?

That'd be great, if she weren't blinded by the darkness of the cave.

Suddenly, she felt the grip around her slacken and she tumbled to the ground, hitting the floor with a startled cry. She looked around blindly, trying to figure out what was happening. The heavy breathing of the Hydreigon suddenly stopped, much to her surprise.

She closed her eyes, deciding instead to focus on the sounds of her surroundings.

There was a whine coming from a little bit farther away, followed by a growl. The growl wasn't frightening, though. It was friendly, almost maternal in a sense. Another happy squeak, followed by a growl.

Latias' eyes opened with a sudden realization. There was a baby! The monster that had carried her all the way here was a mother...! She felt her heart skip a beat as she realized the focus was off of her and on the baby.

The Hydreigon must have brought her to the nest to eat her!

Fear filled her once more, adrenaline suddenly surging through her veins. The only thing she could think to do was turn invisible once more, following the air to the entrance of the cave. All she could do was pray to her elders that she wouldn't run into another road block as she searched for Latios.

~Brother! I'm coming!~ she cried, moving as quickly as she could toward the entrance to the cave.

An angry roar could be heard from behind her and she forced herself to keep running. Suddenly, fear turned to a sort of delirious joy as she flew forward, not thinking of anything but the escape, even giggling at the angry sounds behind her. She had to be getting close to the entrance...

Yes! There it was! Right in front of her! Her heart skipped a beat happily as she charged for it, only to stop in horror at what she saw in front of her: A human with two Pokemon.

Latias froze, staring at the human breath ragged from her high speed flight. Her mind raced as she considered possibilities. She remembered once, talking with Big Sister. She could look like a human, walk alongside them. Maybe she could do that now and walk right past? It was worth a shot.

The Latias moved back into the shadows as quietly as she could and focused, thinking about how she turned invisible. If she reflected light like that, couldn't she do it and transform herself, too?

That's exactly what she tried to do. She succeeded, too, but an angry roar behind her told her that she had a follower. Frightened, the Latias ran forward and into the light, appearing as a pale human girl, likely around the age of five or six, with red hair in pigtails down to her mid back and a red and white dress on, wearing a sapphire necklace, that, unbeknownst to her, matched the ruby one her brother wore.

Latias looked to Yuki in horror, eyes wide and full of tears as a soft whimper tore itself from her throat. Against every instinct that was shouting at her to run, she slowly, tentatively approached Yuki, never taking her golden eyes from his yellow ones.

An idea filled her mind. She slowly, carefully moved her mouth, simultaneously projecting the words to Yuki's mind, attempting to create the illusion she was speaking. ~Please... Help me...~

Just as these words were "spoken," the Hydreigon angry about losing his prey appeared in their sights, roaring furiously as all three heads looked to Latias.

Finally, the storm had settled, much to Xaviero's pleasure. He looked to the sky for a moment, seeing a few stars visible from between clouds. He slowly pushed himself from his position he had sat the storm out from and walked into the wilderness, Hanabi following obediently. He pulled a Pokeball from his waist and tossed it into the air, preparing to summon Sabia and allow her to finish her training.

At the same time, he placed one hand on Hanabi's head, only to be startled by a savage growl tearing itself from her throat. Quickly, Xaviero pulled his hand back, allowing his Pokemon to move forward, sniffing at the wet grass before she let out a howl. Obviously, she had found something.

The Dark Pokemon ran forward, searching for something in the grass as she went, only to sound another howl, signaling her position.

Xaviero quickly followed behind as quietly as he could, feet getting wet from the water coating the grass he ran through. The moon was out now, granting a bit more light to the mountain side as he maneuvered around branches and rocks.

What he found in front of his Pokemon surprised him. He blinked and took a step closer to Hanabi, who was growling quite viciously toward what she had found. A small boy was curled up, covered in mud and tear stains. The oddest thing about the boy, however, was the blue hair.

Xaviero frowned. "Hanabi, down." he commanded, immediately causing the Pokemon to sit down and cease growling. He leaned in closer to the child, eyes running up and down him as he searched for signs of injury, although in the dark, that would be quite a hard feat underneath the mud. "What are you doing here...?" he asked softly, pulling off a backpack and rummaging through its contents.

The Umbran pulled out his lab coat and looked to the child with a frown, concerned with what a child would be doing out here. He couldn't be much older than Elysia was... He closed his eyes, forcing the image of his daughter lost on a mountain out of his mind as he gently wrapped the coat around the boy's shoulders and waited for a response.

Yuki stared blankly at the incredibly young girl. What was a child doing, playing around in one of the entrances to the Ancient Caverns? Didn't the girl know there were Dragons here that would more than likely eat her? Or was she one of those rare cases, take Kuzumi for instance, where she's in her element around a certain type of Pokemon?

Tilting his head slightly, signaling Elina with his eyes to follow, he made to turn away when he froze in place as a familiar roar announced the presence of another Hydreigon. Placing his foot down slowly, the teen contemplated whether or not he should challenge that Brutal Pokemon as well before a frown touched his lips. And the girl chose then to speak.

The Umbran wasn't sure why, exactly, he turned back around, eyes narrowed and flashing dangerously, as he pointed in the direction of Latias. "Ice Shard." Luckily his Weavile knew where he was actually pointing for the Sharp Claw Pokemon jumped to attention, spinning around, and skillfully launched a chunk of ice towards Latias.

As the Ice Shard flew to the disguised Eon Pokemon, the middle head of the Hydreigon snapped forward and, to its surprise, Crunched down onto ice instead of the girl it had been chasing after. "Don't relent. Ice Punch." While the middle head worked to remove the large chunk of ice from its mouth, the other two heads began snapping about angrily.

Elina was Taunting the Dragon, keeping all eyes on her, before swiping at the far right head and smacking it with an Ice Punch. This caused the Dark Dragon to snarl in rage with the remaining head as it summoned an orb of dark energy, it appearing to be a Dark Pulse, and shot it at the Weavile.

Of course, since Elina had barely finished a battle moments ago, the effects from her previous Swords Dance and Agility uses gave her extra speed to dodge the attack. Now if she had reacted fast enough, she would have completely evaded the attack. As it was, the Dark Pulse was launched in such a close range that her instincts couldn't kick in fast enough and slammed her against the wall.

It was a very good thing that Elina was too proud to let one attack defeat her. The Weavile gritted her teeth, a terrifying smile apparent on her lips, as she got comfortable and puffed out an Icy Wind. While the Hydreigon thrashed around, trying to dispel the freezing temperature and occasional pieces of hail smacking into it, Elina peeled herself away from the wall and lunged forward, both claws glinting icily, and cut through the Dragon.

Soon enough the Brutal Pokemon was done, fainted, because of the chain of super effective attacks. With it down, Elina once again found herself grinning with a sadistic amusement before peering up at Latias curiously. Would her trainer command her to attack this one too?

Just as the Weavile stepped toward the child in a threatening manner, Yuki snapped his fingers in a sequence that commanded his Pokemon's attention. It huffed, clearly disappointed, and ambled back to his side while he focused his attention on Latias. Now that the danger was gone, what was he supposed to do with the child?

Running a gloved hand through his hair, the teen let out a weary sigh. The child seemed to be abandoned, an idea that he was very familiar with, and quite out of place on this mountain. Turning around to face the exit, Elina being returned to her Pokeball and the ball being sent to the PC, Yuki peered outside to see that the storm was at last letting up.

There was still a light drizzle, though the clouds were parting and moonlight was shining onto him to blind him as well as at various places beyond, and the young scientist vaguely wondered if he could find someone to adopt her just as he had been adopted. If not, then maybe he would find himself raising her just as he had ended up raising a few others before.

This was assuming, of course, if the girl joined him. A thoughtful frown touched his lips as he realized he was already considering his options with the girl. Had he really decided already that he would find the child someone that would be there for her? Old habits really do die hard.

~

Latios, hearing the snarling of a nearby Pokemon, further curled into a ball in hopes that he would go unnoticed. It wasn't until he heard footsteps, light like a human's, that he realized the Pokemon was trainer owned. That was a terrible sign, as far as he was concerned, and he actually lifted his head up to look around before smacking his head against the ground in his fear of seeing the Houndoom.

The result of doing so caused him to bite his tongue so that he wouldn't encourage the other Pokemon into attacking by his cries. Eyes held tightly shut, Latios listened as the Dark Fire-type growled menacingly down at him until, abruptly, it stopped. Still the male Eon Pokemon refused to move until he heard an unfamiliar voice.

As tempted as the child was to peek an eye open and see what the human was doing, Latios was stubborn. There was no way he was going to react towards the pair no matter what happened. If he was lucky, they would leave him where he was and allow him to forget the dangerous encounter.

Of course there was no such luck, his luck having disappeared since the previous night, and his eyes fluttered open in frightened surprise as the Italian gingerly wrapped him in a piece of human clothing. Red eyes stared up at the glinting glasses Xaviero wore and revealed the boy's feeling of weary fear.

His life was over as far as he knew so, with that thought taking precedence in his mind, he squeezed his eyes shut and clenched his jaw in wait for the inevitable. Latios had been captured while Latias was still out there, somewhere, probably as lost and scared as he was.

With the dragon baring fangs down at Latias and the human seeming to command that other Pokemon to attack her, she cried out, covering her head instinctively and falling to her knees, attempting to curl up and make herself smaller. Much to her surprise, neither Pokemon landed a move on her and the Hydreigon snapped up a mouthful of ice instead of human-formed Latias.

She stared in horror at the Pokemon for a moment, paralyzed by her fear as she realized to some extent what she had gotten herself into. A split second later, she was on her feet, running toward the entrance of the cave in an attempt to flee. She was stopped, however, by the sound of the Hydreigon being defeated.

The Pokemon paused, her childish curiosity getting the best of her, even in a life or death situation, and she glanced over her shoulder. The monster had been defeated by something as small as that little black Pokemon? She blinked, suddenly realizing how cold the cave had become as she noticed the shivering that was shaking her body.

Latias hesitated a moment longer, looking up at the human that had effectively saved her life. She frowned, a soft, frightened sob escaping her lips as her mind went blank, unsure on what to do. She took a deep, shaky breath before it was expelled in a terrified scream as Elina approached her. She flinched back, eyes shut as she telepathically cried out for her brother.

The snapping that got the Sneasel's attention proved to catch Latias' as well. She tentatively opened her eyes, looking up at Yuki with a pitiful frown. She slowly drew her human arms around herself to try and warm herself, realizing she was too tired to run. This is it... With that thought in her mind, the tears she had been trying to fight back for so long finally overwhelming her.

As the tears fell, she thought of everything she was sure she was losing. She was sure she would never see her twin again. No more games, giggling, or teasing. No more freedom, no chance of becoming one of the guardians of Hoenn, rising up with her twin to become one of the graceful legends of the region, entitled to keeping the peace. This was it. She was doomed to be captured by the hands of a human, forced to do his will.

Big Brother, Big Sister... I'm sorry... She drew an image of them in her mind, remembering the moment before they left Hoenn for this horrible, frightening region. She had failed them. Their special adventure was over. They would never return to their home to protect it. She was sure of this.

Her tears started to slow, she was unsure how long they had been falling. All she knew was that she was exhausted and defeated. Like the tears, her breathing slowed as well as her body and mind decided it was time to sleep. Of course, it happened at the worst possible time, but she couldn't keep up with everything anymore. As she drifted to sleep, her facade of being a human child faded and she seemed to shimmer for a moment as her small Latias form was revealed.

--

Xaviero found himself mildly surprised as red eyes stared up at him for a moment before the child turned away, remaining silent. A slight frown tugged at his lips as he looked over the child once more. He could hardly leave the child alone on a mountain in the middle of the night. The next Pokemon to find him might not be as tame as Hanabi.

Briefly, the Umbran considered lifting up the child as he cowered as closely to the ground as possible. "What's wrong?" he asked gently, moving one hand to touch the shoulder of the child. "You cannot stay here alone. Where is your family?"

Possibilities raced through Xaviero's mind as he considered them all, searching for the best solution. He could stay with the child until daybreak and then find his parents. Unless he didn't have any. In that case, the child would have to be brought to the nearest town and turned in as lost or abandoned. But the child wouldn't even speak to him, how could he expect the little boy to follow him, or allow him to turn the boy into authorities? None of these seemed very promising.

With a sigh, Xaviero sat next to the child, deciding the best thing to do would be to win his trust. This was going to be a long night.

He looked at the cowering child for a moment and an idea struck him as useful. He reached to his waist, slowly pulling a Pokeball from his belt and summoning another Pokemon.

Chiara blinked in surprise at being released at this time of night, only to immediately whine as she picked up on Latios' turmoiling emotions. She frowned, tentatively peering into the child's mind in an attempt to find out what was frightening him so much. She wanted to help him. She wasn't sure what it was, but she felt a strong desire to protect the boy.

The Ralts took a few steps closer and attempted to hug the child, should he not flinch away or retaliate. He was afraid of her trainer. She glanced to Xaviero, a tiny frown on her face. Why would he be afraid of him?

"You don't need to be afraid..." Xaviero began, playing with words in his mind before trying speaking. It had been so long since he had to speak with such a young child. "You know what? I was alone like you once." He exaggerated his tone, trying to sound more friendly than he normally would as he spoke. "Not exactly the same, but I couldn't talk to anyone. Nobody wanted to be friends with someone who couldn't speak English. Can you speak?"

Perhaps being talkative would work to draw the child into responding positively. It was a good first step, as far as he was concerned. Unless, of course, this kid had the whole "Don't talk to strangers" idea ingrained in his mind. In that case, things would become quite a bit more challenging.

Deciding that his mind had been made up, the teen turned to confront the child and watched as the girl tried to warm herself up. Without hesitating, almost instinctively, he slipped his backpack off his shoulder, Aiko going down along with it, and placed the bag on the cold ground before starting to remove his jacket.

The moment his jacket was off, held carefully in one hand, his eyes narrowed in surprise as the girl's image flickered to reveal a Latias and the Pokemon started to fall to the floor. The fact that this child was, potentially, actually a Pokemon proved to be all the more reason he should catch it before it hurt itself.

So he lunged forward, jacket taking to the air as he did so, and caught the previously levitating Pokemon before slamming his knees onto the ground which caused him to wince painfully. It was then that he realized the Pokemon in his arms was freezing and that it was his fault. Because he had modified his clothing so that the temperatures adjusted depending on his body temperature, he had failed to realize that the girl would be affected by Elina's Icy Wind as well.

Peering down at the now sleeping Pokemon, Yuki felt the edges of his lips twitch down. The Umbran recognized this Pokemon to be Latias. Recalling that the Eon Pokemon was supposed to come in a set, yellow eyes scanned the surroundings in search of the blue twin; of Latios.

There was no sign of the latter, if he considered the fact he still had Latias in his arms and wasn't attacked yet, so the seventeen-year-old let out an unintentionally held breath of disappointment. Latias was known to be from the Hoenn region, to be a Psychic Dragon-type, and to be quite bigger. Yuki shouldn't be able to hold the Eon Pokemon in his arms as easily as he was.

So a young legendary was in his arms, he was in a freezing cold cave, and more than likely would put it upon himself to care for this Pokemon until it was well enough to survive on its own. Maybe find its missing twin as well? At least know I know why it was in the Ancient Caverns.

A tugging of his shirt brought the adolescent out of his thoughts long enough to make him realize that this wasn't the time to be spacing out. More than likely his two Dragon charges were considerably uncomfortable with the current temperature. Glowing yellow eyes glancing down to meet similarly glowing yellow eyes, Yuki noticed that Aiko was offering him his jacket back.

Seeing the offered jacket gave him an idea of how to at least partially keep Latias warm. With this idea in mind, he moved around so that he could be sitting more comfortably cross-legged on the floor and against the wall, at least the cold couldn't seep through his pants, as he held Latias close to his chest with one arm.

After quite a bit of shifting, Aiko and Yuki managed to get the jacket around the female red and white Dragon. Both sighed in mild relief after all the effort it took to do so before Yuki extended his free arm out, activating the black and red glove, to pluck a Pokeball out the PC.

The Pokemon that appeared was Surya, his Growlithe, which immediately wagged its tail eagerly upon spotting Aiko and Yuki. As always, his Puppy was delighted to see them. "Surya, I need you to keep Aiko warm for me." When the dog nodded in understanding, though it was more interested in sniffing at Latias, Yuki shut his eyes and found that he was actually tired.

He would not sleep however; simply rest. Just as he did many a night years ago with actual young children, Yuki took vigil of the night while appearing to be fast asleep. His muscles would loosen to the point of absolute relaxation, and a light smile would make its way onto his lips to feign his having a sweet dream.

If only that were really the case. If only he could actually dream something more than darkness.

~

The human was talking to him. Dear Elders the human was talking to him. The fact that the human was talking to him was wrong! As for his family, well, his family was gone. Gone. Just that word was enough cause for tears to threaten to spill. Determined not to cry in front of these dangerous beings, Latios shook so hard that it was visible.

The Eon Pokemon didn't even notice the Italian reach for him until it was too late which made him recoil in fright. Quickly he threw his human arms around his pulled up legs, all of which felt very odd to be controlling, and tried to hide himself within the lab coat. For the most part, the young boy's mind was at a blank.

But then he remembered that it was only polite to answer questions and, reluctantly, the Pokemon shook his head at Xaviero's first two questions. Latios couldn't very well give a reply without it coming out as a chirp or using telepathy. Both communication options were absolutely out of the question.

Through his closed eye lids, much to his amazement, he saw a dull flash of red and abruptly felt the pressure of an inquiring mind. Curiosity getting the better of him, Latios slowly opened his eyes and peered down inquiringly at the Ralts that appeared to be attempting to hug him.

Ralts was a Pokemon from the Hoenn region, he recalled, and the familiarity of the Pokemon, as well as the reminder of home, pulled a grateful smile out of his previously set frown. Eagerly he reached towards the Ralts, hoping to draw the Feeling Pokemon into a hug, before abruptly freezing as the trainer spoke again.

This man didn't know what it was like to be as alone as Latios was and this he was convinced. Desperately he wanted to inform the adult of this, though the best he could do was nod his head and shake his head as responses. Those were only good for answering "yes or no" questions!

At that moment, to his relief, he had been asked one such question. Speak English? I can't speak at all! It was polite to answer questions and expected to answer them honestly. He honestly couldn't speak the human tongue, though he certainly could understand it well enough, and so Latios turned his intense gaze onto Xaviero silently.

Now that Latios was actually looking at this human, he noticed how incredibly different the man looked compared to those people that had attacked his elders the previous night. It was startlingly, just how different the appearances were, and for a moment he was at a loss of what to do.

He almost asked if the human was actually a human when he recalled the human that couldn't have been human. Thinking back to that yellow-eyed figure made him picture the person the way he had seen the teen with the Bagon, and Latios tilted his head just as the person he was thinking of had done when he first saw him. That person couldn't have been a person.

It was a tense moment, his red eyes boring into Xaviero's without realizing it, before he recalled that there was a question to be answered. At long last he shook his head in the negative as his reply to whether or not he could speak. What would this trainer do, now that he knew Latios wouldn't utter a word?

Latias curled up in her sleep, attempting to move closer to the warmth she felt coming from Yuki as she slept restlessly in his arms. She moved again, a frown tugging at her lips as she whimpered softly. She moved around a bit more, trying to get comfortable in the process without the comfort of her brother near her.

Her dreams frightened her in her sleep, causing her heartbeat and breathing to pick up suddenly as she fought to wake up. She attempted to cry out to wake her from her sleep, but found her vocal cords paralyzed somehow, unable to make a noise.

She was trapped in darkness once more, looking around in confusion. She blinked once, looking down. She could see herself perfectly fine, so why could she not see anything else? ~Brother...?~ she called tentatively, looking around once more. She kept herself quiet, not wanting to find herself chased once more by a big dragon, but she could feel her heart pounding. She took in a deep breath, trying to quiet her heart.

A moment later and still no reply to her gentle cry. She floated forward, seeing a sudden spot of light flickering. She drew closer to it, only to realize that an odd, bluish colored fire-like substance was careening toward her. She let out an audible cry this time, flying as quickly as she could out of the path.

Her head snapped over her shoulder as she watched the path it took, only for the light to fade away into nothingness. When she turned her head back in the direction the attack had come from, she could see things in front of her. It was a forest, with a human and two Pokemon, one somewhat familiar and the other not so much. She blinked, suddenly seeing her brother for a split second. ~Brother!!~ she cried out, racing forward as fast as she could.

Just as she approached him, however, she saw an odd red and white ball appear in the human's hand and engulf her brother with a red flash of light. Suddenly, Latios was nowhere to be found.

A startled cry got trapped in her throat as soon as the human's eyes landed on her. She turned around, only to find a large black and grey dog baring fangs down over her, a feral snarl coming from it. Just as it lurched forward, jaws wide open, things went black once more.

Latias' head shot up, whimpering in fright. Her heart pounded what felt like a million times a second in her chest and she moved forward, finding herself surrounded by unfamiliar scents, sights, and sounds. Just as she did so, however, she found herself tumbling over Yuki's arm and crashing uncerimoniously to the ground.

The Pokemon whimpered once more as she pushed herself up, completely disoriented in the unfamiliar situation. Her head rose from the ground a few inches, just enough for her to realize that she was seeing her hands. Not human hands, but her own, red hand. She pushed herself up, seeing the human and Pokemon next to her and backed up, eyes wide with fear as she hovered about a foot in the air.

Suddenly, she seemed to regain her wits, blinking and reflecting light once more, appearing as the same human girl from earlier. She was sitting on her knees, watching Yuki nervously, one hand covering her mouth and the other crossed over to hold the other arm in its palm. She shook slightly, not knowing what to do. What would Brother do...?

Run.

She shook her head, standing slowly, watching Yuki's actions warily before turning to run from the cave.

She wouldn't manage to get very far, however, before her fright of the vast world would paralyze her once more, causing her to freeze in her footsteps and look around, helplessly lost and not wanting to stray too far from where her brother had last been.

~Brother, where have you gone?~ she called out, projecting her telepathic voice as far as she could reach in hopes that it would get to Latios, wherever he may be.

--

Xaviero quickly withdrew his hand after seeing the child react so frightened towward his touch and watched the child shake his head in response to all of his questions, frowning. They were answers, meaning the child was opening up to some degree, but still useless nonetheless. At least Chiara seemed to be a success, he figured, his gaze drifting to the small Psychic for a moment.

The Ralts saw the fleeting smile from Latios and grinned back, moving closer to the boy in an attempt to be comforting. She sat next to him, looking up with kind eyes, reaching up to touch the boy's hand slowly, hoping she wouldn't frighten him too much. She relinquished her touch on his mind and watched him closely, waiting for him to react before she would do much more.

The Italian, meanwhile, sat silently for a moment. So he couldn't speak? He seemed to be understanding speech fairly well. "I am going to ask you a few yes or no questions, understand?" he said softly, looking back to the child once more, only to find himself startled by the intensity of the eyes he found his own meeting.

Xaviero's first thought went to Yuki. Perhaps this kid was another case like him, only unable to speak. They both had odd enough eye colors for that to be a possibility.

After a moment, Xaviero realized he had let his mind drift and forced it back to the matters at hand. "Do you have family somewhere on the mountain?" he began, eyes leaving the human form of Latios and drifting across the mountain around them, searching for any hint of humans that could lead to the possibility of a child being left behind.

Surely this child has family somewhere along the mountainside. There is no possibility a child this young could survive long enough to get this far with the Pokemon running rampant across this place.

He shook his head slightly, focusing on the child once more as he attempted to suppress a yawn. He failed, although the Italian brought one olive toned hand to his mouth to cover it up before he stretched. It was late, judging by the position of the moon. He looked down to the child next to him, still shaking visibly. "You have to be exhausted..." he murmured, unaware he was speaking out loud until he heard his voice in the quiet of the night. "How about we save twenty questions for the morning and you get some rest?" he suggested, suddenly more interested in seeing the child asleep and rested than learning where and how the child had come from.

Xaviero then turned his gaze to Hanabi, who was busily exploring the area while remaining in sight. "Hanabi," he called softly, causing the Pokemon to look up and approach him obediently. "We need a fire."

With that said, he stood, from his position, looking to the child once before nodding down to him. "I am collecting some wood, I'm not leaving, understand?" he told the child patiently, "I'm staying right here..."

He watched Latios a moment longer before taking a small pocketknife from his bag and moving closer to a dead tree that was a few feet from where he had been sitting. He glanced over his shoulder before tearing a few branches down and collecting them, making sure he had enough to sustain a small fire long enough for the child to warm up properly.

All it took was a few minutes and the Umbran found himself sitting where he had been previously, clearing the area he would then place the wood on of any flammable substances. With everything in place, he snapped to Hanabi, who immediately gave a small breath of flames, sustaining it long enough for the wood to catch on fire.

Yuki, feeling the Latias squirming around in his arms, loosened his grip a bit before it eventually tumbled out, appearing to have awoken from a nightmare, and opened his eyes slowly to peer down at the Pokemon. The sudden movement of Latias alerted his Growlithe, it jumping to its feet and growling, before yellow eyes glanced in warning at the Puppy which immediately silenced it.

With Surya no longer acting threatening, the teen returned his attention to the obviously frightened young legendary and tilted his head slightly. He didn't move immediately, waiting to see what the Pokemon would do now that it realized its identity had been revealed, and blinked once as it returned to its human disguise.

The teen frowned thoughtfully as he continued to watch Latias. He had mistaken the Pokemon for a human child right off the bat, no thoughts of a trick ever crossing his mind, and it vaguely troubled him. At the moment, the Umbran was starting to think that this vacation from Kanto was making him quite lazy.

Usually he wouldn't have easily fallen for such a thing, though this was a legendary Pokemon after all. But now that he was actually looking and properly seeing the child, the hints of its identity were incredibly apparent. If a person knew what they were looking for, of course.

He had taken immediately to the idea that Latias was a human girl the moment he laid eyes on her. Surely less experienced humans than himself, those that weren't bent on mythology or science the way he was, wouldn't have noticed a thing wrong until it was pointedly revealed to them.

A slight whine from Surya snapped him out of his reverie as he realized his thoughts had strayed far off topic. Glancing towards the Growlithe, he nodded to the Pokemon as a signal before looking back to Latias. By now she was at the entrance of the cave, near the edge of a sudden drop, and his jacket appeared to want to fly away.

Oh no, that wasn't about to happen on his watch. Not a second time. Nimbly leaping to his feet, Yuki silently approached the Pokemon and placed a firm hand on either shoulder of the Pokemon disguised as a pale, human child. His grip remained firm, in case Latias reacted poorly to the sudden contact, and he waited a moment before doing anything else.

Then, in his signature apathetic tone whispered an inquiry. "Are you cold?" The question would be left to hang in the air to allow Latias to wonder about that, seeing if she noticed how the temperature was more than likely to her exact liking.

Whether or not the Pokemon dared a response, or spare him a look for that matter, Yuki would then lean over the child and properly wrap his jacket around the Latias so that it wouldn't fly away. "You shouldn't be here, in this region, and alone for that matter. Where is your twin? Why are you not in Hoenn?"

These questions were immediate, his having always been the curious sort, and Yuki released Latias to give her freedom. If the Pokemon wanted to, then she was free to leave. The teen turned partially away, moving to kneel down, and motioned for his two Pokemon to approach.

Surya lowered himself immediately to give Aiko an easier time of climbing onto his back before happily padding over with a wagging tail. Once he and his passenger were before their trainer, they were greeted with spicy Cheri Berries. Surya's favorite. He was about to devour the offered berry when his eyes strayed in the general direction of Latias.

Yuki seemed to have understood what Surya was thinking just by guessing at the Pokemon's straying eyes. Soon a few extra berries, another spicy berry as well as a sweet and a bitter berry, were produced and he placed them off to one side, nearest to where he had last noticed Latias for he wasn't looking in her direction, and returned his attention to his two Pokemon.

~

The first thing Latios noticed was the disappearance of the Ralts' inquiring mind. Glancing over at the small Feeling Pokemon, he noticed that it was reaching slowly for his hand and smiled softly again. The last hand he had held was his twin's and it was comforting.

With the firm belief that holding hands was comforting, Latios closed the distance and took Chiara's before returning his attention to Xaviero. Yes or no questions were questions he could answer and, if he was to be asked, he would courteously answer them accordingly.

There was a moment of silence as he watched the Italian watch him. Being stared at made Latios quite nervous, fidgeting restlessly as he fearfully wondered what the human was thinking about, and forced him to focus his attention elsewhere. It was then that Xaviero asked about his family.

Immediately his thoughts fell onto Latias and he felt tears prickle at his eyes. Blinking them away, he took a deep breath and let out a quiet sigh. He needed to be strong for the two of them. It was his duty as the older of the two, especially as the brother, to care for his twin. Even deeper than that was this feeling of having failed her before now.

Focusing on the question, seriously considering it as best he could, his thoughts remained on his sister. There was a chance that she was still on the mountain- was he still on the mountain himself?- but he didn't want to end up lying if it turned out his twin wasn't, in fact, around. There must have been some way for him to contact his twin.

Then he remembered what the elder Latios had told him about sight-sharing. Maybe, just maybe, if he stayed in one spot long enough and sight-shared with Latias, she would find him. Only then would he be able to confidently answer the yes or no question, though he could have easily shrugged his shoulders to reveal that he wasn't sure.

This would have to wait however, as he was still in the presence of a human. ~If you can hear me, Sister, please be somewhere nearby on this mountain!~

Because Latios had been so focused on his thoughts, trying to find a suitable answer as well as find Latias, he failed to notice Xaviero's movements and hear the man's words. It wasn't until the Houndoom lit the gathered firewood that he was pulled away from his thoughts and jumped in surprise.

Eyes suspiciously peered at the Umbran before looking towards the fire. The young Eon Pokemon knew that certain Pokemon could control fire, but he had no idea people were capable of keeping fire in one place like this. As he continued to gaze into the mesmerizing dancing flames, his eyes began to droop.

It was so warm by the fire and it felt good. For the first time since yesterday night, he felt safe; almost convinced that nothing wrong had happened and it was all just a nightmare he had yet to escape. Red eyes closed, his having removed his hand from the Ralts so he could wrap his arms around his pulled up legs again, Latios' head leaned onto his human knees and the legendary fell into a half-sleep.

He was just aware enough that he had to keep his current form and not accidentally relinquish it.

Latias froze at the sudden sound of the human voice behind her, tensing up immediately in the process. She turned her head slowly to peer over her shoulder at the source of the voice; golden eyes reflecting all of the pain of abandonment as well as a subtle hint of curiosity. She blinked, eyes wide and she trembled slightly as she silently repeated the question to herself. Cold...? Her gaze drifted down from Yuki to the ground as she pondered the question.

No, in fact, she was not. She felt at a perfect temperature. It was warm, but not too warm. She blinked, turning to look to Yuki with a surprised half smile, only to feel the pressure of human hands on her shoulder. She flinched back, eyes wide with fear and hopelessness as Yuki held her hostage, all signs of her smile immediately erased. A frightened whine of protest escaped pale lips as she let her arms fall limp in his grip. Golden eyes slid shut as she desperately tried to disappear, turning her face away from the human as she whimpered once more in fear.

Suddenly, the human began talking once more, causing more confusion to the small Eon Pokemon. Why was he asking these things? Why did he care? She shook her head, hands clenching into tiny, child sized fists in the process as she forced back the tears she sorely wished to shed for her family, for the twin this man was inquiring about. She was trembling violently with the effort to not break down and cry and she took in a deep, shaky breath, holding it for a moment as she waited for the human to seal her fate. She was alone, he had to know it. Why would a human give up the chance to catch her?

Much to the small Pokemon's surprise, the pressure to her shoulders disappeared, and no pain followed, much to Latias' surprise. Instead, she felt warmer than before, more secure. This confused the child and she slowly opened her eyes, mouth slightly agape as she did so. At first, her gaze rested on Yuki, who was suddenly looking to his own Pokemon, taking care of them. She blinked, eyes still brimming with tears. He wasn't paying attention to her. This was her chance, she was free, she could escape!

She was distracted, however, by a cold breeze that drifted past the mouth of the cave where she stood, chilling her face and causing her to shiver. Why wasn't she feeling the cold? Her gaze drifted down to the jacket the human had placed over her shoulder. What's this...? She studied it, searching for the secret in the black fabric that allowed it to warm her. Curiosity getting the best of the young Pokemon, her eyes flitted back to Yuki, resting there for a moment. Was this normal for human clothing? Sure, it had to make up for the lack of fur or ability to warm themselves, but was it really this... Good at it?

The child moved her hands to grasp either side of the coat, drawing it in closer to herself. The warmth was comforting; familiar in this unfamiliar land. She wanted to know about it, to know whether or not it was normal for humans to always have the perfect temperature. She took a step deeper into the cave, suddenly blinking when she realized she had done so. With a tiny frown placed on the pale face, she furrowed her brow, somehow managing to flawlessly pull off the perplexed little girl face without having practice. Perhaps humans and Pokemon weren't all that different after all.

Just as Latias prepared to take another step toward Yuki, Surya looked to her, causing her to freeze for an instant, eyes wide once more as she was in the limelight for the Puppy Pokemon. The last thing she wanted was a conflict. Lucky for her, that wasn't what the Growlithe was getting at.

When the berries were placed in front of her, she blinked in surprise, eyes drifting to the sweet one. She hesitated, watching as the other Pokemon proceeded to eat. Was she expected to join in as well? Her gaze drifted once more to the human whose back was still turned to her. He was being... Kind. She gave a nervous, fleeting smile to Yuki's back before summoning up the courage to step closer.

She ignored the berries for the meantime, looking at the human who she had willingly approached, within her own, albeit human-form, arm's reach. Tentatively, she raised one arm, clenching the fist just short of the green shirt the human wore. With a deep breath and eyes closed, she reached the rest of the way, tugging lightly at the cloth on his back to get his attention.

--

Chiara returned Latios' smile and cooed her delight at him granting her permission for physical contact. The Ralts scooted as close as she could to the child, glad that she could comfort him to some extent. She looked up to Xaviero, the soft smile still remaining on her features as she picked up on the relief the scientist felt that he would not reveal. When the elder twin withdrew his hand, Chiara released it without a second thought, readjusting her position to lean against Latios' leg.

Xaviero watched the child as he seemed to relax slightly in the warmth of the fire show signs of being sleepy. In the light provided by the flames, he was able to see things that were hidden before, and what he saw hardly pleased him at all. The child was a sickly pale color underneath the mud and dirt that coated his clothes. Frowning, Xaviero sighed, wondering just how long this child had been lost in the mountains.

The Italian's eyes drifted toward the flickering flames and remained there for a long while as he contemplated what to do. He remained silent as he watched the orange licks touch the crisp mountain air, only to disippate into nothingness. When the child woke, the priority would be getting him off of the mountain. For now, all Xaviero could do was make sure Latios remained comfortable.

Xaviero looked back to the child, seeing his eyes closed. For a split second, one might have thought they could see a hint of tenderness in his eyes as he looked down to the young boy, but if it was truly there, it was fleeting and vanished an instant later. He pulled his backpack closer, opening it as quietly as he could manage in the almost silent night. With the zipper undone, he peered inside, reaching into the depths and drawing out another piece of fabric.

It was a thin blanket, but a blanket nonetheless. Careful as to not disturb the child he believed to be sleeping, Xaviero folded it together a few times, creating a sort of weak, makeshift bed in the perfect size for a small child. He laid it down across the smoothest area near the fire he could manage without rocks creating awful lumps in the fabric and turned his gaze to the child once more.

By this point, Chiara, too, had fallen into a light slumber next to the boy, causing a soft, almost nonexistent smile to grace the Umbran's features. He moved his hand near his Ralts and Chiara seemed to sense it, adjusting herself to allow for Xaviero to move her without disturbing the boy.

With the Ralts out of the way, Xaviero looked back to the boy, silently cursing his weakness for young children for getting him into this mess in the first place. This, of course, evoked another smile that would remain unseen, as far as he was concerned. The Italian moved with painstaking slowness as he would try to lift Latios from his position and lay him across the blanket into what he hoped would be a more comfortable position for the child, whom he believed to be fast asleep.

As his Pokemon happily continued to eat, Yuki gently stroked the Puppy's fur to check for any knots. Much to his satisfaction, Surya's fur was warm, combed neat, and incredibly soft. Pressing his hands against the Growlithe's body, checking deeper into the thick fur, he felt the powerful muscles of the Pokemon and nodded to himself. This was the result of many battles.

"I've put you through a lot, haven't I?" The teen murmured to his starter while patting the Pokemon on the back. There was no verbal reply and, instead, the Puppy wagged its tail in appreciation for the affection. This reaction was what he expected and he shut his momentarily. Yuki had asked that same question to Jayvyn many years back and was given much the same answer.

Now lost in his thoughts of his old team, a team that he still had access to if he really needed them for anything, the Umbran completely forgot about the presence of the other Pokemon. It wasn't until Latias tugged at his shirt that he snapped out of his reverie. Blinking a few times, the teen peered over his shoulder and tilted his head slightly as a small sign of curiosity.

For the Latias to have approached him on its own, ignoring the food completely, was a good sign of trust; to what extent the young legendary's trust was would remain unknown though. Wherever he stood in that figurative sense, however, didn't matter. What did matter was whether or not he could get the Pokemon to follow him.

Until Yuki knew what the Eon Pokemon was to do next, he would continue to treat it with the respect that it deserved despite being so young. It was on a higher level than himself in status, though it would need quite a bit of trainer-guided-training to compete with even his Bagon.

A faint smile touched his lips at the thought of Aiko battling this Latias and winning. Keeping the smile for a moment longer, if only for the Latias to relax more, Yuki eventually quirked a brow slightly. "Yes?" As his yellow eyes looked over the pale human facade, Yuki found himself eyeing the jacket. It was a relief to see the thing still on Latias.

Just seeing it on another made him realize that it was significantly colder without it. The cool breeze from earlier only emphasized the point causing goose bumps to run up his left arm. The right, as always, was wrapped with medical tape so there was no seeing if goose bumps were on it.

It was during one of these rare times that he wondered why he never got around to adding his personal touches his other sets of clothing. Well, maybe he'd get around to it. Just maybe. At least, to the trainer's satisfaction, the child is content in it. This assumption was, of course, based on how Latias was clinging to the coat with its other hand.

"Do you like the jacket?" He found himself asking, voice dropping to a whisper as his yellow eyes glanced outside because a fast moving shadow had passed by; it looked suspiciously like another Dragon. "The jacket is average, but what keeps it at the right temperature is my doing. Technology," he paused, bandaged arm lifted so that the gloved palm faced up, and allowed data to dance out from his hand to reveal a bottle of water.

The bottle hung there momentarily, appearing to be a cross of solidity and numerical coding, before Yuki moved his hand closer and caught the actual thing. Technological magic tricks were always intriguing to watch- the expressions of viewers even more interesting. "Technology is what sets my clothes apart from everyone else's."

~

Latios, upon feeling Xaviero's touch, involuntarily flinched in his half-sleep and actually blinked his eyes open in response. With bleary red eyes did he peer up at the Italian, for a moment not registering that the scientist before him was human, before returning his head back onto his knees and shutting his eyes.

Sleep was too good to pass up at this point, his mental and physical worth having deteriorated due to the building stress of the past all-nighters, so the blue Eon Pokemon wasn't about to give it up for the world. Despite this desire, the nagging feeling of not giving in completely kept him half awake.

There wasn't a chance in the name of his elders that he would reveal himself. A human was a human, no matter the circumstances, so he couldn't afford to trust Xaviero. Even if he failed to remember just then that it was a human now lifting him. Maybe if he was more awake, then being in the grasp of a trainer would have bothered him.

As it was, the warmth from the physical contact only comforted him. He wanted to be held by his twin and by the elders. He wanted one of those group hugs elder Latias had shown them so long ago. A ghost of a smile graced his lips at the dreamlike memory just as he was laid across the blanket.

The blanket was cold compared to what he had previously been in, granted the arms of a living creature would always be warmer in comparison, and forced the disguised Pokemon to squirm around a bit. For some reason there was a wave of warmth coming from one side so, logically, Latios flipped over to face the fire.

Once he was in a more comfortable position, apparently he was attached to curling himself up into a human ball, the pale creature stopped fussing about his position and settled down completely. While his body rested, his mind wandered far from its physical location.

His mind was wandering, him flying invisibly in a bright and beautiful sky, to where home was. Compared to how long it took for his small party to have flown to Aerei, Latios managed to cut the time by two-third. Already he was back at the garden he had first woken up in.

The garden was beautiful. It was in this garden that sunshine kissed all with such affection that it brightened the moods of those that stepped into it. Here, where the water flowed crisp and clear, with its streams running towards a blissful dream. This garden, with its many lovely flowers, would stay in one's heart forever.

And now it was ruined. Many trees were without their leaves, almost all of them severely burnt and many still burning, while the flowers were turned to ash. The waterways Latios used to play in with his twin were destroyed and appeared beyond repair. The garden was no more.

And the horror of such a sight proved too much for Latios. His body thrashed about as he desperately tried to return mind to body, until he suddenly shot up. Eyes fluttered wildly open, tears streaming down his cheeks as freely as when he last cried, and Latios nearly toppled forward in his attempt to take a step.

Everything was wrong! The garden was just as gone as everyone else in his life! Why was this happening to him!?

Clutching his small hands to the sides of his head, wanting so desperately to scream yet not finding the voice to do so, Latios stumbled towards a nearby tree and slammed his shoulder against it; back turned on Xaviero and the others. Unable to literally cry out, he decided to shout out with all his might telepathically.

Memories of Latias and the others flashed wickedly through his mind, as if in taunting with full knowledge that it would fill his heart to the brim with anguish and pain. Focusing on all the happy memories he had accumulated during his lifetime of being in that garden, that garden that no longer was home, Latios reached out for the string that bound him to Latias.

Latias froze with the human fabric in her hand after she had pulled it down slightly, eyes still closed. A heartbeat later, golden eyes opened and looked down to her hand. She stared at the fabric, marveling over the feel it had between her fingers. It felt so... Strange compared to what a wild Pokemon would touch. As soon as Yuki turned to face her, the Eon Pokemon dropped the shirt's hem instantly, swiftly withdrawing her hand back within the jacket, bringing it up to grasp the edge of the jacket once more.

She blinked as he acknowledged her, eyes flitting up to look at his face. He seemed almost friendly. She returned his smile with a small one as polite as she could manage with her heart desperately trying to escape her chest as his gaze fell on her. She felt her instincts telling her to run; that she should not be in such a close vicinity to a human, let alone a trainer.

Latias tilted her head slightly as Yuki began talking, not wanting to be rude. His voice was quiet, and to catch onto what he was saying, the child leaned her head in, slightly closer to Yuki than she normally would be comfortable with. Blinking, she realized that she had managed to miss the first part of what the trainer was saying, catching the last part of it. Frowning, she hesitated a moment, trying to piece together what the soft spoken human had asked to make sure she didn't misunderstand him. A second later, she looked back down to the black cloth draped over her like a blanket and up to Yuki once more before nodding slowly. It was quite nice, she decided, to be underneath the warm cloth.

As Yuki continued, Latias found herself slowly losing interest in his describing technology. Her gaze drifted from the young trainer in front of her to the Growlithe next to him, and eventually toward the mouth of the cave, where it remained for a moment, Yuki's words falling to the background as she wondered about her brother and how he was doing, shivering slightly as she remembered the nightmare she had had not too long ago.

With Yuki's hand extending to begin his technological magic show, Latias found herself flinching, suddenly looking back to the human, fear shining in her eyes as she turned. She blinked in surprise, however, when she realized that there was water floating in front of her, but looked quite strange. Tilting her head, she leaned in closer, her childish curiosity and young age causing her not to bother considering the fact that she could be potentially putting herself in danger. As she grew closer to it, Yuki's hand snapped up to the plastic and caught it, causing her to move backwards, dropping to her knees as she peered up curiously at the human.

She knew humans were capable of a lot with their technology stuff this one had just been talking about, but she was unaware of such abilities existing in the world. Tentatively, she raised one slightly trembling hand up to brush her fingers across the smooth, icy cool surface of the bottle. Her eyes widened with wonder and a tiny, surprised smile graced her features for a split second. It actually was real!

Her childish excitement was short lived, however. Just as quickly as the smile had flickered across her face, it was extinguished. She blinked suddenly and turned around, eyes darting around the cave, bright with hope. ~Brother?~ she called back. She was certain she had heard Latios' voice nearby. The child pushed herself up and looked around. ~Latios, where are you?~

Latias ran to the mouth of the cave, loosening her grip on Yuki's jacket in her excitement to see her brother. She half expected to see the blue and white dragon flying toward her as soon as she could see the world outside of the cave. She looked around, eyes slowly sliding across the vast sky she could see as the jacket slid from her shoulders, landing on the ground just behind her.

Of course, there was nothing to be seen.

--

With the child somewhat taken care of, Xaviero turned his attention to Hanabi, who lay next to him in a light slumber. With a deep breath, the Umbran placed one hand on the short, black fur of the Houndoom's head. He let his fingers slide down the smooth fur as his eyes drifted to the flames.

Looking at the fire, he allowed his mind to wander, deciding it was best to keep a quiet vigil over the area while the nameless child rested, should he wake and try to escape. Remaining silent, his thoughts drifted toward his own, broken family, wondering how his own child was doing. She had to be sleeping by now. Something he, himself, should likely be doing. But that didn't matter at the moment.

Closing his eyes with a slight grimace on his features, he pushed the thoughts out of his mind. That was behind him. When dark brown eyes slowly opened, there was a steely glint in them as he looked into the flames. This was not the time to be distracted with pointless ideas and curiosities. Shaking his head slightly, he let his mind fall blank and focused on nothing in particular, hardly keeping track of where his mind led him.

Just as he began to succumb into a light slumber, he was suddenly shocked back into reality by a strong thrashing about next to him. Eyes were suddenly wide and alert as he looked toward the child, searching for any sign of imminent danger that would need reacting toward as he stood, moving to the child without a second thought and kneeling down to wake the child from his nightmare.

Hanabi had been alerted just as quickly as her trainer, having risen from her light sleep and approaching the child curiously. Her tail swished once behind her as she stood by, waiting for any sort of order from Xaviero.

The Umbran, meanwhile, withdrew his hand as soon as Latios rose suddenly, tears streaming everywhere. Xaviero blinked, momentarily visibly shocked by the outburst from the child. He was pulled out of his surprise by the child nearly falling over as his first reaction was to throw his arms out and catch him before he hit the ground and injured himself.

Xaviero frowned, taking a deep breath. He didn't have to be a psychologist to realize something was wrong with the child, whether it was merely separation anxiety or a reaction to some other trauma, the scientist did not know. Before he could say a word, however, the child turned away from him, moving further away from the light of the fire and seem to fall against a tree.

Immediately, Xaviero followed the boy, not willing to let the child get lost any more than he already was. As soon as he was next to the tree, he kept a distance for a few seconds, debating over the best way to talk to a mute child and find out information.

Before he could react, however, Chiara beat him to it. The small Pokemon moved up to the child quietly, politely touching his mind to let him know she was nearby before approaching any closer. A few seconds after making her presence known to the child, she frowned up at Latios, moving to give his leg a hug in the process.

Xaviero, upon seeing his Pokemon surpass him, moved forward as well, kneeling next to the child, mind struggling to produce the right words to soothe the near-hysterical boy that he had found himself in charge of.

Taking a deep breath, he shook his head slightly, reaching out to gently grasp the child's shoulder, pulling gently in an attempt to turn Latios to face him. The Italian then began speaking, softly but quickly, to the child. "Listen. You may feel alone, but I assure you you are not. I will assist you, help you find your family. I will not leave you alone." He paused, realizing that his years of practice being a parent weren't being applied too well at the moment. "You have nothing to worry about..."

Silently, Xaviero was kicking himself, realizing how unconvincing he probably sounded to a young child. He shook his head slightly, managing a humorless laugh at himself in the process as he waited for the child to react.
