Find help, she told him as she gently awakened their charges. He had watched as his twin whispered to their younger selves that they needed to get ready for an adventure to be remembered. As the blue and red Dragons groggily responded with curious chirps, he brushed against his twin with worried affection. His twin placed her head against his and shut her eyes as he did. Protect the children. The elder Latios glanced behind him at the eagerly following pair of Eon Pokemon. They vaguely remembered their elder Latias promising an adventure if they followed him and so they did, accepting the indirect order easily in their half asleep states. Danger will come then go, and when that happens, they can return. Please be safe. It was then that an inquiring chirp decided to break his train of thoughts and catch his attention. Why had they left elder Latias behind? It was simple, really. It was the Latios’ duty to teach the young more about the lives they must live and the responsibilities that come with their being what they are. While the Latios did so, it was Latias’ duty to watch over the home and protect it from intruders. Both responsibilities, as dull as they may sound, are dangerous. But why, the younger Latios pressed, was the adventure outside of Hoenn? The answer to that was simple as well. This adventure was different from the adventures other twins would have- this adventure was special. A special adventure for a special pair of twins, right? Much to the elder Latios’ relief, that seemed to satisfy his younger counterpart. The elder watched, the look of wariness in his eyes softening as worry receded to the edges of his mind. Find help. She had told him. Protect the children. She had insisted... It felt right to the younger Latios to be told that he and his twin were special. And he would have bought the reason if hadn’t known the truth of the matter. Was it really so serious that his elder had come up with such a smooth lie? Would he learn to lie as easily in case of a similar situation? He had kept his discovery to himself, for some reason not even daring to tell his twin of it, though he was certain that she was aware of the air of reluctance about him. Perhaps this was the first step to mastering lies. And so the younger male Eon Pokemon dutifully followed his elder, poking fun at his twin all the while, as they continued to race after their leader. His mind continued to return to the truth all the while. It was late that night, before they had been seen off for their adventure, that the problems arose. The younger Latios had been sleeping soundly beside his twin, exhausted by the nonstop play during the day, when a disturbance brought him to waking. With a quiet yawn, he lifted his head to peer into the darkness of the night, it being cold and cloudy with threats of rain, and he wondered why he had woken up. Just when he thought it was nothing, he heard it- it was a familiar battle cry only low and muffled. His elder counterpart was in a battle somewhere in the distance and seemed to be trying to avoid waking him and his twin up. Blinking the sleep from his eyes, he concentrated on his curiosity to speed up the waking process before carefully untangling himself from his sister. Once done, he attempted manipulating what little light he could, eventually deciding he would instead toy with the darkness, and disappeared into the night. What he saw confused him. His elders were both locked in battle against this group of trainers- wasn’t it their duty to protect the humans of Hoenn?- with each human using two Pokemon. It was obvious that the elder twins were outnumbered, though neither showed any signs of weakening, and it appeared that this held no important matter. Eventually the shadows of passing clouds enveloped the battle scene causing the combatants to pause as they waited to be able to see again. What happened next made the humans speak words he had never heard before and didn’t understand. He did, however, understand what had just happened. The elder Lati twins had melted into the shadows of the night and left the battle more than likely to reach him and his sister. He hesitated returning, however, and instead warily circled the four humans. They were talking about capturing the Latios and Latias that had just escaped, but why would humans try to catch legendaries? As the people talked, he learned more and more of the darkness in people’s hearts and his blissful ignorance slowly evaporated. Humans weren’t meant to be protected, though it would someday be his duty to go to the general population’s aid when the need arises, and they weren’t creatures to trust. No, far from it. And so he turned away to return to Latias’ side, eyes as dark as his realizations, without sparing a glance to those that wished him harm. Arriving at his twin’s side, seeing how neither of their caretakers had appeared yet, he settled back down and shut his eyes without much hope of sleep. It would only be a few hours later, just as he was finally falling asleep, that elder Latias would coax them to wake up. It would only be a few hours later that he and his sister would flee from home in hopes of finding somewhere safer to hide. And, little did any of the three know, it was during those few hours of escaping the Hoenn region that elder Latias would be captured to keep the hunters busy. |

Latios lowered his head in both weariness and to snuggle against his twin's. As much as he didn't want Latias to hang around and run the risk of even more danger, he found he couldn't bring himself to push the red Eon Pokemon away. First of all, Latias was his baby sister, and turning her down for anything was painful. To top that off was the fact that he felt like he'd lose his twin forever if they separated again. He was about as keen as Latias was when it came to the idea of separating. ~No... no I won't make you.~ The young Latios promised as he tiredly closed his eyes. ~I just want you to be safe...~ He managed to murmur before, what he would later consider to be horrifying, he fell asleep. Latios remained awake for far too long and used up too much energy throughout the entire time; sleep was inevitable. Now that the male Eon Pokemon was unconscious, Yuki glanced down to Chase. "Chase, take them to the private lab, but keep your mind alert for mine." As far as the younger Umbran was concerned, too much time was being wasted just discussing this. They would have to go with Xaviero's idea whether it was the best course of action or not. "At least there, they will have no chance of escaping." Chase, seeing as how this was an order, could only nod his head in acceptance of the choice. It was clear by now that the youth was back to normal, and so the Alakazam chose to turn his attention to his latest charges. With a kindly twinkle in his wise eyes, the Psi Pokemon approached both Eon Pokemon, though there was a blue glow around himself and the two children Pokemon. By the time the bipedal fox reached the children legendaries, he would have Teleported himself and the babies to Clearwater Lab. With the three Pokemon now gone, Yuki returned his attention to Xaviero and seemed to ponder about something. "One of my older toys, actually." He announced as he shrugged his shoulders indifferently. "Newer is generally favored." The youth added as he waved a dismissive hand. It was time to return to headquarters and make the necessary requests for a boat. ((Fast-forward begins now.)) It hardly took a moment to reach Umbra HQ thanks to Adrastos easily Teleporting the two scientists right at the entrance of the laboratory. That was the beauty of the Gallade: his ability to Teleport long distances was nearly flawless. Naturally there were times when the Blade Pokemon was unable to take Yuki exactly where the boy wanted to go, but the failures were far and few between. "I'll make the request for the boat; feed Cadogan and the others for me." Before Yuki could manage to take three steps away, the boy paused and glanced over his shoulder. "That would be the chimera that tried to eat you the first time." This now clarified, the boy then resumed on his way to check with the naval branch. With any luck, it wouldn't take much to convince the baboons in there to hand over a ship. When he finally reached the appropriate area, Yuki frowned thoughtfully. Before him were a few bulky grunts with Machokes working on repairing a rather destroyed boat. "Such a shame," The boy commented which, to his unnoticed amusement, caused both the grunts to spin around in guilty surprise. At first, after calming down, neither realized who Yuki was. If it wasn't for Adrastos's presence, then the two grunts would have thought the Umbran scientist to be nothing more than a lowly grunt like themselves. Thankfully the fierce, cocky smile Adrastos flashed put both large grunts in their proper places without too much of a fuss. It was clear to both shipbuilders that the boy was above them in ranking, what with a fully evolved mutant Pokemon standing beside him. "I require a boat; transfer one into my possession or guide me to one." At first the two grunts were too stunned to respond. Handing over any sort of water-based transportation wasn't something they knew they could do; because of this, the pair visibly hesitated. Neither knew if they were supposed to follow Yuki's orders or tell the kid to buzz off. It was when Adrastos flicked his wrist and sent a Machoke flying into a ship, the very one the group was trying to fix, that the humans decided to do as instructed. "Whe-where do you want it and wh-when?" One of the builders yelped as he stood up straighter. As soon as he was finished speaking however, the man seemed to slump a bit, almost as if he desperately wanted to curl up and disappear. For a couple of Umbran grunts, they certainly didn't look like they had much spine. "Near Trinxit Beach, at the ruined dock that once led to Parum." Yuki replied in what the grunts thought to be irritated. In reality, the boy was considering to bring up the fact that these particular shipbuilders were weak willed to the leader. Perhaps she would teach the two fools to act like real men and not wimp out before a guy that was smaller than them. "While I'm still young." After both grunts squeaked their responses to have it there within two hours, Yuki's eyes darkened significantly. "Pray it's there before I am." In emphasis of how quickly he could arrive to the Parum Ruins, Yuki snapped his fingers and Adrastos activated the prepared Teleport. Suddenly trainer and Pokemon were gone, returning to the door that would lead them into the very familiar laboratory where they suspected Xaviero to be waiting. Without a word, the pair would enter to see what Xaviero was up to. ((For now, I don't think we'll need to RP the Pokemon at Clearwater Cave; unless you want to, in which case feel free to start that back up. xD)) Edited by Key2dawn, May 23 2012, 01:49 PM.

Latias was quite relieved when she found out that her brother would not force her away. The last thing she wanted was to be alone again, especially among humans. She smiled and rubbed up against her brother. ~Thank you...~ she murmured before he fell asleep. With him sleeping so soundly, she found herself growing more sleepy. Another yawn escaped her before she succumbed into slumber as well, head resting on her twin's neck and a soft smile gracing her lips. Xaviero chuckled softly at Yuki's comment. "Good to hear I'm at least favored, Yuyu," he joked before listening to the teen's orders to his Pokemon. With the babies kept safe, they would be free to do as they needed in the mean time before they left. Once Teleported and ordered to go feed Cadogan, Xaviero frowned, unsure what that was. Before he could voice his need for clarification, Yuki mentioned the monster that had tried to eat him. The Italian frowned slightly, but complied. "Hopefully I'm not on the menu this time," he retorted before turning toward the lab, Hanabi walking alongside him. The Houndoom was slightly more confident in her battling abilities now than she had been during that time, so hopefully even if things went wrong, she could keep her trainer from becoming a Chimera's lunch. Upon entering the lab, Xaviero smiled to himself. Immediately he felt at home among all of the equipment and experiments. They were lined up nicely in cages, and all eyes were on him as he entered. Growls could be heard from inside of them as they stared hatefully at the human. Humans could not be trusted as far as the experiments were concerned. Remembering his tour around the lab what seemed like forever ago, Xaviero moved to where the food had been kept and portioned out what he thought was enough for each. It was made easy by the fact that it was all labeled with numbers and names, likely Yuki's work. One, however, caught his attention. On one of the labels was scrawled, LATIOS Xaviero frowned at the word, certain that this was the one he was looking for. Tossing some food into cages as he went, he didn't even stop to look at the Chimera Cadogan and ignored the angry snarls from the three heads as they snapped at him. After a few minutes of tossing food into cages, he found what he was looking for: A blue dragon curled up on the floor of a cage. "Latios..." he managed to whisper as he reached in his pocket for his cell phone. He was going to send Yuki a quick text before he heard the entrance of the very person he wanted to speak with. The Italian turned to look at him before gesturing toward the cage. "Your timing is impeccable, as always, Yuki," he said. "I found what we were looking for," |

If Yuki was glad to hear about Xaviero's discovery, or even heard it for that matter, then he certainly lived up to his usual apathy by choosing to sweep the perimeter with a single gaze. "Cadogan, I have returned." The boy scientist announced as he strode automatically to the experiment. The snarls increased as Yuki approached only to abruptly die off as the teen's eyes hardened in warning. It seemed he was still remembered from the discipline it was forced to undergo, along with many of the others experiments there. The Umbran youth examined the Persian and Houndoom heads before looking over to the Arbok tail. "Come, and I will feed you." That said, Adrastos Teleported the Chimera outside of its cage abruptly. In those few seconds of Cadogan's surprise and disorientation, both Yuki and Adrastos Teleported a few feet ahead of the Pokemon. Naturally, due to this, the first sight was Xaviero and Hanabi. With obvious triumph, the mutant let out growls and hisses of triumphant contempt before it lunged in the scientist's direction. Much to the surprise of the creature however, it froze in midair before gliding slowly in Adrastos and Yuki's direction. "That is my toy." When this was established, the Pokemon was released and landed lightly before the younger Umbran. Still, the Arbok head was watching Xaviero closely; its interest in taking a bite out of the Italian quite apparent. Still, the creature chose to follow Yuki's expectations and was allowed to eat a large portion of raw meat because of it. While the three heads ate, Yuki ambled over to Xaviero's side to peer down at the legendary Latios. "Well, since it's here." That said, the boy then strode over to a nearby table to gather a few things: the report concerning the Latios and its younger companions, a blank file that appeared to have only one or two papers inside, and a pen. Without a word, the youth turned around to face Xaviero and the unconscious Latios as he read the report and leaned against the table. "It seems a few experiments were destroyed in the process of acquiring it." Yuki noted as he continued to read the papers. Once he was done, he clicked the pen and wrote a few things on it before placing it back on the table. "Send it back in its cage." At first this would be quite random, but suddenly Cadogan leapt towards a certain steel cell that had one large window for all to look into. The window was actually the door, and it allowed any passerby to look inside. It seemed like there was nothing inside though; just a brightly lit cell and a single, small shadow at the center. There was, however, nothing within to produce the lone cell, for not even the source of all the light was apparent. Of course, the moment that Cadogan was sent to its cage far away and out of sight, the shadow twitched. Soon enough, the shadow lifted from the ground to produce something a bit more solid, though with about just as much color. It was a ghost, for sure, with eyes blazing yellow, lips parted to reveal a blood red mouth (some of the red actually dripping out and dribbling down its "face") and surprisingly white fangs. The creature took on a shape which seemed like a dangerous combination of a Seviper and a Milotic and hissed in frustrated amusement. The creature focused its attention on Adrastos for a moment, seeming to regard the mutant Gallade before its tongue flickered out to show its amusement. The action must have been incredibly rude because suddenly Adrastos was furious with the shadow-like creature which apparently didn't have a shadow of its own. Before Adrastos could lash out at the imprisoned mutant, Yuki spoke. "You would listen to it despite my expectations?" Thankfully this snapped the Blade Pokemon out of its rage, and suddenly the Pokemon was backing away from the cell as if he would suddenly find himself within it. In emphasis of his determination to avoid the prison, Adrastos Teleported closer to Hanabi and made a point to focus his attention on the fallen Latios. If Adrastos was considered dangerous, especially because he undaunted even before Cadogan, then suddenly this imprisoned creature even worse. Because Adrastos was no longer paying much attention to it, the creature then turned to rest its gaze on Xaviero. Yuki, whom was walking over at that point, glanced over to see where Xaviero was looking. "Try not to make eye contact with it," The youth instructed calmly, almost soothingly; it was as if he was trying to offset something. "Otherwise it will be irresistible." If Xaviero found he was unable to resist making eye contact with the creature, then he would suddenly find himself with visions of his old team, the Pokemon that were lost in Johto. They would be standing around the steel cage, an Alakazam and even Kabutops within the decent-sized prison. The four old team members would seem to be pleased to see Xaviero again, and only Xaviero would see them. A voice would then invade the Italian's mind, its tune cunningly tempting and inviting. Xaviero, dear Xaviero, have you left us behind? Open this door, Xaviero, and show you still care for us. Release us. |

'Typical Yuki...' Xaviero found himself thinking when the teen went straight for the monster who seemed hellbent on killing him. The scientist turned toward the monster, just in time to see it brought out of the cage. In that split second of Cadogan's confusion, Hanabi moved in front of her trainer, fangs glistening with crackling electricity. There was no way that her trainer was becoming a meal today. Xaviero's eyes narrowed as Cadogan leapt toward him, not prepared to let the Pokemon walk all over him again. He took a step backwards and snapped his fingers, signaling to his Pokemon that it could attack-- Until the chimera was left motionless in the air. The Italian had to admit; that had caught him more off guard than Cadogan's attack. Hanabi had crouched down, prepared to throw herself at the much larger Pokemon to attack, muscles flexed and rippling under the thin, black fur. She snarled savagely at the monster, ready to attempt to tear out one of the necks. However, there was no pride to be earned in attacking an immobilized enemy, no matter how large. When the monster was redirected, the Houndoom relaxed, the Thunder Fang fading away, and she moved back to her trainer, eyes never leaving Cadogan. Xaviero chuckled humorlessly to himself, watching the Arbok head that stared him down. Although he'd be hard pressed to admit it, he was not sure Hanabi would have been strong enough to take on the sheer brute force that experiment was capable of dishing out. Perhaps that would become a challenge for the Italian-- Training Hanabi to the point she would be victorious over Cadogan. However, that would likely destroy the laboratory in the process. Yuki's speech ended Xaviero's reverie, bringing him back to reality. As the teen moved closer to Latios, Xaviero did as well, looking over the Pokemon. Just before he could ask how they would transport the Dragon, Yuki ordered something into a cage, drawing the Italian's attention from Latios. His gaze fell on an empty cage, just as a shadow seemed to materialize out of nothingness, revealing an obviously lethal creation inside. Xaviero studied it, noting the features of Seviper and Milotic, but abilities that seemed closer to a Gengar. Curious, he took a step closer, just as Adastros placed Cadogan back where it belonged. A second later, the scientist found himself taking a step backwards as Adastros charged, only to be rebuked by his trainer. Next to him, Hanabi growled at the Pokemon, obviously not very accepting of it. Xaviero hushed her with a pat on the head and took a step closer. His motions must have drawn its attention, as its gaze suddenly fell on him, causing him to freeze. Perhaps Yuki should have spoken sooner, as Xaviero found his attention fixated on the experiment, eyes widening in shock at what he saw. "W-where did you come from?" His voice shook slightly, an underlying tone of deep sorrow barely audible. In front of him, he found the members of his team, not the one he had now, but the four left behind. His Tyranitar, Alakazam, Kabutops, and Crawdaunt were all there, staring at him sadly, wanting to know why he had left them behind. Did he prefer the Houndoom and Skarmory he still had? Were they not good enough? The Pokemon all implored him to free them from their prison, they wanted to know he still cared, that they still mattered. Xaviero was unsure what to do or how to react, taking a step closer, followed by another. He stared at the Pokemon in disbelief. They were alive? But how? Where had they been? All he could focus on was his team; his childhood friends, his very first Pokemon standing in front of him. He couldn't lose them a second time. If they were here, he would get them, no matter what. The Italian seemed to have lost all sense of logic, not realizing that they were not there just a few minutes ago when he had patrolled the lab to feed the experiments. It didn't matter that they weren't there then; they were now. "I'm sorry--" he began, but his voice caught in his throat. He couldn't believe they were here, in front of him. As quickly as he could, he moved to the cage, searching for the lock that would release his team. Next to him, Hanabi was unsure of what was happening, but the sudden reaction of her trainer was not something she liked. Apologizing to a Pokemon they had never seen? Acting as if he had seen a ghost? Something was wrong. She growled before moving toward the cage as quickly as she could, flames filling her mouth. The Houndoom pushed her way to the front of the cage, trying to move to Flamethrower the serpent without harming Xaviero. When she finally got a good angle, she exhaled a stream of fire toward the snake, trying to end the illusions that trapped her trainer. |

Choosing to ignore the fact that Xaviero was being enticed by the shadow's antics, Yuki studied the Latios before him carefully. After taking a moment to check the Pokemon's condition, he pulled out a syringe and slowly slipped it into the unconscious legendary's body. Soon as the syringe was full, the younger scientist then pulled it out and swiftly stopped the Latios's blood from streaming out of its body. This, he decided, could be immensely useful for future purposes. With that job done, the tool disappeared into his PC where it would remain for some length of time. At this point, the boy turned around to watch as Xaviero desperately searched for a way to unlock the shadow's prison. Because he wasn't the creature's main focus, the boy failed to see what it was, exactly, that Xaviero could. When the creature glanced over in his direction though, Yuki then found himself witnessing a scene he never wanted to see again, and the boy frowned. Knowing that it was only an illusion, a trick of the shadow's to bring him down in despair, the Umbran teen managed to prevent himself from lashing out at the creature. Instead, he forced his eyes to focus on Hanabi who was beside the desperate Italian. "What do you see?" As he asked this, he swore he heard the hissing laugh of the shadow as Hanabi unleashed a torrent of flames at prison. It did nothing in reality, for Yuki took surprising caution with building the cell block, but it was to be clear that the illusion would adapt in accordance to the Flamethrower. Still, he refused to risk catching the shadow's eye and instead strode towards a nearby desk to rummage around in. At this time, the shadow's laughter was translated it into a chorus of horrified screams of pain and anguish. Although there was no way for the fire to get into the cell, for it was literally a cell-block that was sealed closed by the window-like door, flames erupted within. The fire splashed against the cell, catching onto Xaviero's supposed-to-be dead team that stood around it. Within the cell, the remaining two Pokemon that belonged to Xaviero's old team pounded uselessly against the window, silently crying out to be released. Though each Pokemon failed to mutter a single cry with their actual voices, saying their indiviual species' names, the one, uniform voice invaded the Italian's mind with a hiss of remorse. Xaviero! Why! Why do you have Houndoom attack? Do you no longer love us despite our loyalties? Release us! Please! If Xaviero was to remain so fixated on the illusion, then he would fail to notice that all four of his old team members were speaking in one voice and not referring to Hanabi by name. Instead, he would focus more on the looks of desperation in each Pokemon's eyes as his Tyranitar and Crawdaunt fail to save their friends and banish the flames. All the while, the shadow would patiently watch and wait for the scientist to finally discover the lock, wherever it may be. Adrastos, however, would not stand for this. Understanding what it was that his trainer's companion was undergoing, the Pokemon felt obligated to save the unlucky human. Without warning, the Gallade tackled Xaviero to the ground which broke the shadow's concentration, though did not quite dispel the illusion. While Xaviero saw and heard his fallen team's cries, Adrastos fought to invade Xaviero's mind. Because the Blade Pokemon was unsure how to break the spell, the Pokemon chose to attempt a move that he only ever saw others use: Calm Mind. As far as he was concerned, it would be a simple act. All he needed to do was to relax somehow, calm down, and then his mind would be clearer for channeling his psychic powers. If Chase could do it, then surely Adrastos would be able to as well? In a desperate attempt to stop Xaviero from letting the shadow loose, Adrastos attempted the Calm Mind attack. At first he was just trying to soothe his own mind, but then he realized that it wasn't his own mind that needed to relax, for he was already surprisingly cool-headed about this. Instead, he focused on Xaviero's emotions, drawing on his abilities to feel the emotions of others that were developed through his younger days. Upon pinpointing the strongest emotion within Xaviero, Adrastos would then insist on calming the Italian down. He would attempt to convince the man to think logically, to remember. What the human was witnessing was only an illusion, a trick of the mind caused by an evil creature. Adrastos would implore that Xaviero see beyond whatever he saw and witness what was really inside that cage. If the Gallade's attempts were successful, then Xaviero would see, at least, a foggy image of the shadow somewhat coiled behind the Alakazam and Kabutops, watching with blazing yellow eyes. Along with this though, Xaviero would then realize that the shadow's body, despite being ghostly, appeared more solid than the images of his childhood friends; the images would have hazy edges, almost as if the shadow saw no point in completing them. |

The illusion seemed to be all Xaviero could focus on; his childhood friends in particular as they begged to be released. The Italian wanted nothing more than to free them; to apologize for abandoning them in that fire. It had to have been over a year since he thought they had perished; but they couldn't have! They had found him, even after he fled to a new region! He couldn't abandon them again... But why was Hanabi being so aggressive toward them? His eyes widened as a torrent of flames engulfed the shadow's prison; the Italian having to take a step back to keep from being badly burnt by his Houndoom's Flamethrower. "Hanabi," he snapped, turning to stare coldly at the Dark Pokemon that usually served him so loyally. What was her problem?! Didn't she want to reunite with her old friends? Maybe she was jealous-- Before he could continue his reverie, he was shocked by the agonizing sounds coming from his team as they perished in the flames. Was this what it was like when they were left to die in the laboratory in Goldenrod...? He could still remember the flames as his life's work burned up around him; smoke stinging his throat and eyes as he struggled to breathe. The only Pokemon that he had in their Pokeballs were his Scarmory and Houndoom; the rest had been throughout the lab, doing their work. There was no way to reach them as flames from the legendary Ho-Oh erupted around them, destroying everything. There was no way he would make them endure something like that again. Before he could scold his Pokemon any more, the dark, enticing voice returned, echoing in his mind. Xaviero! Why! Why do you have Houndoom attack? Do you no longer love us despite our loyalties? Release us! Please! The fact that the collective monster referred to Hanabi not by her name, but by her species should have cued Xaviero to the fact that these Pokemon were not real. Part of his mind recognized this fact, but that didn't seem to make much difference in the Italian's actions. As his team screamed and roared in agony, he winced, resisting the temptation to cover his ears and block out the mind-numbing pleas for help. The instinct to protect and save his team became so urgent that he promptly returned Hanabi, to prevent her from interfering any further, before moving closer to the cage, which was still hot from the Houndoom's Flamethrower. The fact that he was touching some sort of reinforced glass without any way for the flames to enter seemed to evade the Italian in his desperate abandon to free the Pokemon trapped within. A moment after he had reached the glass, Xaviero found himself suddenly forced to the ground; rough skin pressing against him as Adastros restrained him. The scientist struggled against the Gallade/Sharpedo, determined to free himself. However, the human was easily overpowered by the genetically altered Pokemon, and Adastros had him pinned down with ease. Just feet away, Xaviero could hear his Pokemon begging and pleading to be freed, their agony flooding his mind. A split second later, another presence invaded his mind. As Adastros searched his mind, he would find himself stumbling upon an immense feeling of guilt the Italian felt for abandoning his Pokemon. His two very first Pokemon had been left to perish, after faithfully remaining by his side since childhood. In his mind, he had betrayed his team; the unspoken covenant between trainer and Pokemon had been broken the instant he left them to die. The guilt was overpowered by the desire to protect the Pokemon that were suffering in front of him. The desire was overwhelming for the scientist and he continued to struggle against Adastros, not willing to let go of his firm belief that these really were his old Pokemon in front of him. "Get... Off...!" he growled through gritted teeth as he shoved futilely once more at the Gallade. A moment later, however, he felt his guilt seeming to cease. He blinked as the Calm Mind seemed to take effect. Logic. As much as he wanted to deny reality, it seemed to dawn on him that the creatures he was seeing were not real. They spoke to him, using one voice that he did not recognize. Houndoom instead of Hanabi... Despite the fact that he wanted to believe the illusion was real, he forced himself to take a closer look at what was really in the cage. He could see it then. The foggy, ethereal form of the shadow was visible, behind opaque, imperfect illusory images of his team. Xaviero's eyes widened as the realization slammed down on him. An instant later, he was full of rage, though it did not show. He was fully aware of the fact that he had been manipulated and fooled. "Please let me up," he requested to Adastros coldly. While he wanted to seek revenge, he had to remind himself of the mission at hand and the fact that they had found the larger Latios. |

((Can totally fast-travel after this post or your next post, if you like. xD)) Adrastos, relieved that his attempt at Calm Mind was a success, quickly released the Italian and bowed in apology. Honestly, he didn't know what else to do, and he was quite desperate to save Xaviero before it was too late. Hoping to let the scientist know this, the Gallade attempted to leave a trace of his mind within Xaviero's, if only for a moment. An apology for the invasion. He was quite guilty for learning Xaviero's deepest feelings. It wasn't in the Blade Pokemon's place to force another's mind to reveal such secrets, though a thought suddenly occurred to him. When did he become so mindful of others? Before he was allowed to travel with Yuki, he hardly cared whether or not his victims wanted him in their minds. If he was curious, then he invaded. Clearly something greatly influenced his ways, but he couldn't exactly pinpoint it immediately. As he tried to focus on this, he abruptly realized he forgot to dismiss the link between his mind and Xaviero's. With another apologetic bow, the Gallade removed the connection and turned to face his trainer. Yuki. Ever since the Umbran boy took him in, he found his habits had changed. He still mimicked the youth's actions from time to time, and flawlessly at that, but there was more to it than just actions. He was actually defending others, accepting others as his friends; he was influenced by Yuki. A shocking revelation, but a reasonable one nonetheless. While Adrastos stood there, a tad dumbfounded about how he was the one influenced and not the other way around, Yuki glanced up to see that Xaviero was no longer trying to free the shadow. "Possibly my worst experiment since the time I thought I turned myself into a girl." This wasn't exactly something he wanted to admit, but it could at least ease the tension he was sure his companion felt. When his Gallade stared at him with an expression that clearly read shock, Yuki spun around to face the present Eon Pokemon. "Everything I create seems to have an affinity to illusions. The whole time I thought I was a girl and I was determined to fix the experiment, but it was all just an illusion." By revealing this, the youth pretty much announced that he fell for illusions just as easily as anyone else did. His pointing this out was his indirect way of admitting that the shadow had played with his mind as well. "We should get going; the boat waits for us near the ruins, probably somewhere on the beach." That said, the youth pulled out a capturing device that look like a gray Poke Ball. When he dropped it on the Latios, however, it burst into a portable cage, surrounded the Pokemon, and then shrank back into its Poke Ball guise. "A handy invention." He noted as he glanced over to see how Xaviero was doing. Unfortunately, at that moment, he caught the shadow's eye from the corner of his own and nearly cursed as the Pokemon prodded at his mind. Once again it was flashing a scene of death and mocking him for his part in all of it. So young... so stained by blood. Under his breath, Yuki murmured something in a long dead language. When Adrastos noticed how the youth was unable to resist looking at the shadow, the Gallade moved to the cell prison and smacked a button that blended in so well, it was almost completely invisible. Suddenly the light within the prison intensified until, at last, the shadow retreated back into the floor, not to be seen in its actual form for the remainder of their time there. With the shadow no longer trying to torment them, the light softened up until it was at the same brightness as the time the Umbrans first walked in. Although the shadow was no longer in his mind, the scene of death remained fresh in his mind. As much as he didn't want to consider it, there was a chance that he was at fault for the murders. If he could just remember what role he played in all of that... Without realizing it, Yuki's eyes shut and his breathing slowed down considerably. His head hurt as he tried to penetrate the darkness that took the place of what he knew to be his rightful memories. Fists clenched, the Umbran might have actually looked his age, most likely younger as he tried to quell the frustrations of his heart and mind. For once in all his time with Xaviero, he actually appeared to be a hurt child. Edited by Key2dawn, Jun 27 2012, 04:43 PM.

As soon as Adastros obliged and let him up, Xaviero rose to his feet, brushing dirt and dust from the floor off of his white lab coat. How his coat managed to stay so white was almost a mystery, as stains never seemed to last in the fabric for very long. With the apology in mind, the Italian inclined his head ever so slightly to acknowledge it. So it had all been an illusion...? It was so convincing... Xaviero had been certain he had seen his Pokemon in that cage; that they had been burning in front of him, begging for help. However, some things did seem off, such as them not referring to Hanabi by name. That seemed to be the biggest clue that something was off, yet the Italian had completely missed it. He was rather upset about his failure to remain calm minded, but that wasn't particularly obvious on his features. Perhaps it was time to take a trip to Johto, to pay respect to his fallen companions. His reverie was broken by Yuki beginning to speak about his experiments and illusions, which caught his attention. Yuki, a girl? The Umbran tried to imagine what Yuki would have looked like; short, skinny, with big, golden eyes and long hair. The image brought an amused smirk to his features, as he wondered if the adolescent would have panicked under such a situation. Xaviero likely wouldn't have been particularly level-headed in that situation. Try as he might, he couldn't manage to conjure an image of a shocked Yuki to mind. The young professor was much to stoic for him to really imagine any sort of emotion. "I am sure you were a very pretty girl, Yuyu" he teased, amusement quite audible in his voice. Sure, he was still feeling guilty about his Pokemon, but why not have a little fun when the opportunity came up? So him thinking he was a girl was nothing but an illusion. Perhaps the stoic, unaffected Yuki was susceptible to things normal people were, after all. That was good to know. Maybe. ... Come to think of it, that would only be good to know if Xaviero ever had to actually seriously fight the adolescent, something that would hopefully not happen. The Italian would definitely be losing that fight... As Yuki mentioned they should get going, Xaviero nodded. Of course, Yuki had managed to secure a boat for them. He seemed to be more and more resourceful the more Xaviero got to working with him. This notion was only further promoted when, suddenly, Yuki performed a magic trick, basically capturing the entire cell into something that vaguely resembled a grey Pokeball. However, at that moment, Yuki seemed to freeze up, catching Xaviero's attention. Was that Pokemon experiment creating illusions for Yuki now, too? Oh, the irony. Just as he mentioned his susceptibility, he seemed to have succumbed to the spell. Before Xaviero could do anything, however, Adastros seemed to banish the shadowy creature with a bright light, breaking the illusion. As Xaviero studied Yuki in that particular moment, the Italian was shocked at what he saw. While his surprise didn't actually show in his features or demeanor, he frowned a bit, brows furrowing. The professor seemed so young... Vulnerable almost as he appeared to be overwhelmed by emotions. Rather than inquiring about Yuki's welfare and putting him on the spot, Xaviero allowed for a distraction from the moment. "Shall we be going? The sooner we pursue the Eon twins, the better." His voice was quiet as he watched Yuki closely, looking for any sign that the situation might escalate. The best thing, the Italian thought, was to get Yuki away from that experiment and into a new environment. ((If you want to time skip now to arriving at the boat, or even in Hoenn, if nothing is going to happen on the boat ride, we can. x3 I'm leaving it up to you, as I don't remember all the details we had thought out for this thread... <<; )) |

((All right, this shall be a purely fast forwarding post, with no room for any comments until we board that boat. :'D At least there, we can have a bit of interaction before we move on again;;;)) Due to Yuki's inner struggle, he had failed to notice Xaviero's teasing quip, though the words would sink in sometime later. Instead, his attention was focused on the darkness that seemed to grip his mind and heart, an emptiness that the youth found he was unable to fill despite everything he tried. It wasn't until Xaviero spoke again, suggesting they get going, that he was drawn out of his progress with the darkness and returned back to the present. Without a word, Yuki lifted a hand to rub his temples; at the same time as this, he managed to murmur, "Why...? Why am I stained when I do not know what part I took in those deaths?" For a moment the younger Umbran failed to say anything else, and in that time, he regained his composure and removed his hand. It was in that moment that he realized what he had said, and at that moment that his apathetic gaze moved to rest on the Italian. "Yes. Let us go." He left no room for questions or comments as he pivoted on one foot and turned to exit the room. As he did so, Adrastos gave a deep bow of respect, eyes glowing blue in preparation for a Teleport. Without a moment's hesitation, the group abruptly disappeared from the Umbran laboratory and appeared in the Clearwater laboratory. Once here, the youth snapped his fingers and watched in satisfaction as Chase rounded up the Eon twins with a powerful Psychic hold. Nodding in appreciation for the Alakazam's action, Yuki then produced the Poke Ball that had been previously used to capture Latios to send the young male away. After doing so, he tossed a ball at Latias and patiently waited for it to succeed. Eventually, after a bit of a struggle, the Latias would also be in a Poke Ball. This ball, however, would be given to Xaviero to carry while he himself carried the ball with Latios in it. As soon as all of this was done, not a moment more was wasted as Adrastos and Chase combined their psychic abilities to Teleport to Trinxit Beach. Little time would be wasted in searching for the boat, but once it was found, Yuki went straight to work with preparing the boat for sail. With the help of his two Psychic-types, the boat was finally ready to set sail, and so it did. A lot of time would be wasted in this escapade, but it was for an important reason, so it was worth it. Unfortunately though, all this time provided little for the younger Umbran to focus on, and suddenly he found himself recalling the memories of death. At the thought, a frown touched his lips as he leaned against the railing at the front of the boat. He felt like he had known everything until a recent point in his life, but what happened in that point of time was also lost to him. The most he recalled was that Kuzumi was involved, there was a fight, and then there was a death. That was the overall idea, but the details were currently lost, locked somewhere deep within him. Back at the lab, he had felt close to discovering something important about himself, but now he couldn't recall what it was. A voice, certainly, but it was too faint for him to make out. All he knew was that it was his voice, though it didn't sound like his current voice. As he continued to dwell on this, he randomly asked a question out loud, though it wasn't in a language that Xaviero or any of the Pokemon would have recognized. Who are you, Voice, and where do you fit in this puzzle? |

((so I'm posting from my phone while waiting for a bus;; please excuse any typos I may miss and this'll probably be rather short xD)) Xaviero frowned at Yuki's demeanor, as it seemed so... unnatural for the teen to behave in such a manner. It was almost unnerving to see him so distraught. When a death was mentioned, the Italian refrained from asking; not wanting to appear to pry in to Yuki's personal life. Especially when he knew the teen had connections to multiple crime syndicates. He couldn't judge, especially when he himself had been involved in the ending of life. Once Teleported to Chase and the Eon Twins' location in the Clearwater lab, Xaviero looked at the Pokemon, wondering how they would be transported on the boat. If the young Pokemon were smart, which no doubt they were if they had survived this long, they wouldn't willingly go out to sea with the Umbrans. On top of that, there would likely be at least one other Umbran grunt accompanying the boat, seeing as they were providing it. As if in answer to the scientist's question, Yuki worked his magic and materialized two Pokeballs from his gloves. One must have been the one that had caught Latios before, as the blue Eon Pokemon was returned, and the other captured Latias. The Italian was surprised at the ease the young legendary's capture was, and even more so when her Pokeball was thrown to him to carry. He looked at the Pokeball for a moment, almost feeling a tinge of guilt for holding a wandering Pokemon trapped in his hand, unable to escape. The guilt came as a surprise, too. You're getting soft in your old age... The thought was unwanted and sudden, causing a quiet, humorless laugh to escape his lips. He really was getting old if he felt bad for holding a legendary captive. After all, wasn't that the premise of his work in Johto? He had seen them tortured and experimented on, until Ho-oh finally broke free and destroyed everything. In fact, the Latios Yuki had taken from the lab had likely been the twin to the Latias that had almost died under his watch. By the time they had Teleported again and Yuki had set up the boat, Xaviero had managed to seal his feelings away and focus on the task at hand. After all, he had had enough guilt in the last day, he felt, to last a lifetime. This was made easier when his partner in crime ((;D)) spoke up. But what had he said...? It wasn't English. Yuki had a Japanese name, implying heritage, yet, the language didn't sound much like that, either. Now, Xaviero wasn't a linguist, but he knew his fair share about a lot of different subjects, and that didn't sound like any of the languages he knew about. He looked to Yuki, debating whether or not to ask him to repeat himself, in a language that was mutually understandable. The Italian frowned and looked out to sea, putting his hands into his pockets and rolling around the Pokeball containing Latias in his palm. The warm ocean air tugged at his hair and labcoat, causing the white fabric to billow behind him. "Something is wrong." The words came out as a statement; an observation of sorts as the Italian turned his gaze to the teen. The statement seemed ambiguous enough to Xaviero, as it could be interpreted many different ways. He then paused, waiting for Yuki to react. If the young professor wanted to discuss something, those words would provide an opening to the conversation. Edited by Aki, Jul 14 2012, 07:43 PM.

((We can arrive either in your post or my next one.)) Upon hearing Xaviero's statement, Yuki glanced sharply up at his companion only to pause at the sight of the Italian. For a moment a look of startled recognition passed through his yellow eyes before the younger Umbran blinked and saw the fellow scientist for who he really was. Shaking his head, Yuki then returned his attention to the ocean and, for a moment, continued in his silence. "It's a brave new world," Yuki eventually replied as he lifted his hands to rest on the railing. No emotions were revealed in his expression or demeanor, but the youth was lost in deep thought. After another period of silence on his part, the younger scientist eventually provided a subject to discuss. "I have been told that I am stained with the blood of the innocent and the guilty." It was felt odd to actually start a conversation, as he was usually the one to end it with a gesture or lack of response. Still, he knew that he needed to pass the time with something other than dwelling on his broken memories in silence, and so he chose to dwell on this in discussion. If it provided insight for anyone, then it would provide Xaviero with more information about the complicated life that Yuki lived. "The trouble is," He continued as he turned around to rest his back against the railing, arms crossed, and head tilted upward so he could peer up at his companion; "I do not know what part I played in all of it." Here, he shook his head before turning his attention to the sky above him. As he continued to reveal information about himself, a deep sadness started to make itself present in his yellow eyes. "Apparently most of my actions are connected to the time before Professor Oak took me in." Once again Yuki paused, trying once more to draw at least one memory of blood baths, but, as usual, his mind was greeted by that infuriating darkness. It was completely impenetrable, for he was without a single source of light to guide his path. Giving up on the attempt, the youth then shook his head again before he glanced back at Xaviero. "My sources tell me I should remember it all as well as they do, but I just don't." At that point in time, an Umbran sailor approached and paused, clearly uncertain as to how to further approach the two scientists. Yuki, noticing this, stood up straighter, obviously prepared to handle the situation as swiftly as possible. "Speak." At that, the sailor dropped to his knees, uncertain as to why he did so but choosing not to voice this puzzlement, and gave his report. "We arrive to Slateport in a little more than ten minutes, sirs." Once this was announced, he was immediately dismissed. Relieved about this, for he was still confused about his actions, the man scrambled up to his feet and retreated back to his post. After the guy disappeared, Yuki relaxed and returned to leaning lazily against the railing. Under his breath, he muttered another question in that long dead language, and despite having said it quietly, the wind still managed to pick it up and present it to Xaviero. It almost seemed like the wind wanted his words to be heard, yet not understood. If Xaviero was to ask, then the younger Umbran would have been compelled to provide an answer. "Not that it would matter to anyone. I've lasted this long on my own while protecting the people; why think I need saving?" |

Xaviero gazed out to sea at the island that was coming into sight. Slateport's golden sands could vaguely be seen, as well as some buildings that were now starting to take form as they quickly approached. Well, Xaviero decided, it could've been worse. Of course, thinking that would likely only test the gods once more. After all, they still had quite a mission to complete. There was still a missing Latias that had to be located. He sighed slightly to himself, realizing that he likely was only tempting Arceus with his thoughts. If anything can go wrong, it will. And in this situation, a lot could go wrong. Luckily for him, Yuki began to speak, drawing his attention away from what could possibly trigger Murphy's Law. His gaze quickly flickered back to the young professor for a moment, before he turned it back to watch the blue waves beneath their boat. Stained by blood? Oddly enough, this fact didn't surprise Xaviero at all. Perhaps he had been around Yuki far too long, if such a typically disturbing tidbit of knowledge about his teenage companion did little-to-nothing to phase him. After all, he had been quick to dispose of those Umbran grunts, just hours ago, on what seemed like a whim to the Italian. They did something Yuki didn't like, so Yuki eliminated him. The only sign that Xaviero had heard the teen speak was a slight inclination of his head. As Yuki mentioned not remembering the incident, Xaviero glanced over again, only to see the younger Umbran looking up at him. The deep-rooted sorrow the Italian could see present in Yuki's eyes caught him off guard, causing him to blink in surprise before nodding in understanding. While he himself was not missing memories that he could think of, he understood the pain of not understanding a part of himself. He debated speaking up and saying something encouraging, only to brush the idea aside when the right words failed to form in his mind. Besides, Yuki had begun to speak again before he had managed anything. Taken in by Oak? That bit of knowledge caught Xaviero off guard. A slight quirk of his brow and a nearly-imperceptible frown, if caught by Yuki, would give away the novelty of the information presented. The Italian knew that Yuki had studied under Oak and that the world-renowned Pokemon professor had insisted that the youth accept his role as a professor himself, but had never really known much about the teen's childhood. Or much of his past, for that matter. The only reason Xaviero even knew he had any relation to Team Rocket would be because of their meeting within the syndicate. The Italian nodded once more as he fixed his gaze on the blue sea. A slight frown tugged at his lips as he waited patiently for Yuki to finish speaking about himself. For that reason, he was caught off guard when he heard the harshly spoken command. He looked over to Yuki, blinking in surprise, only to notice the sailor who stood there. A hint of a smirk graced his lips as the Umbran quickly relayed his message. They would be on land in Hoenn within ten minutes. Sounded good to him. When the Umbran sailor quickly left, Xaviero waited a moment to see if Yuki would say anything else. When it finally seemed as if the teen was done speaking, an odd phrase could barely be heard. It was a whisper in the wind of a foreign language, evoking the memories of childhood, when Xaviero understood nothing around him after moving to Johto, as it was all spoken in English. He quirked a brow in question. That had definitely been Yuki's voice. For a moment, he hesitated, unsure if he should question what had been said. After all, if Yuki had intended for the Italian to understand, wouldn't it have been spoken in English? After a moment, curiosity managed to get the better of him and he gave in. "Excuse me?" His tone was calm as he implored for the teen to speak in a language they mutually understood. When Yuki offered his clarification, Xaviero nodded, slightly confused over what he meant. This time, he didn't voice his confusion, however. "Your memories... Such forgetfulness can be common in stressful situations." He glanced back to Yuki, adjusting his posture so he was facing the teen. While it was tempting to make a snarky comment about Yuki's forgetfulness, the Italian decided to keep things serious for the time being. "It is called a defense mechanism, if I remember correctly." Putting a name to what may have caused Yuki to forget seemed useless, but the Umbran nonetheless hesitated on the fact, trying to remember if it was the proper name or not. After a moment, however, the Italian merely shrugged, deciding that it didn't matter if he had the proper name. He could look it up later. "It is a way for one's mind to cope with stress that is keeping it from functioning properly." Looking over Yuki, he debated whether or not it would be accurate. "In your case, it would be through repression, assuming that is the problem. Your subconscious buried away the memories because they caused too much distraction from functioning." |

As Xaviero explained a possible reason for Yuki's lost memories, the youth found a surprising certainty that this was not the case. Once his Italian companion finished speaking, Yuki started to thoughtfully tap the railing as he tried to decide how to respond. "I believe a greater force is preventing my memory." Upon saying this, the boy abruptly realized that he was firmly convinced about this, and soon the young professor was scowling at the approaching city-port. "Difficulties have always been presented to me, I am sure of it, but I believe I have faced only one other that infuriated me as much as my loss of memory does." To be honest, the youth was almost entirely clueless as to what this other difficulty was. The only fragment of that first difficulty he had was Kuzumi, but the martial artist never wanted to discuss it. Eventually the youth sighed; this was hardly the time to think about his own misfortunes. After he dismissed the thoughts, Yuki focused on the task at hand: returning the Eon Pokemon to their home. Unfortunately there were a few problems with this task, and as Yuki thought about it, he wondered if any of the Eons would be willing to be of assistance. As far as he could tell, the younger Eon twins are wary about humans, meaning there was a good chance that the elder Latios would be as well. Just as the sailors prepared to dock the ship, Yuki pushed away from the rail. "Where is the elder Latias, how do we find it, and where is the home that these Pokemon belong to?" Important questions, and questions that were announced loud enough for only Xaviero to hear. This time there was no wind to steal the boy's words, and this was fairly lucky since the Umbran sailor from earlier chose then to return. As the man reached the higher ranked Umbrans, he dropped to his knees and announced their arrival. Yuki was tempted to comment on how he never would have guessed, but he managed to bite his tongue long enough to provide a simple wave of dismissal. When the man left, Yuki turned to peer down at the dock off to his right. "Perhaps it's time I visited an old toy of mine." At the thought of the old colleague, the boy visibly relaxed into his apathetic demeanor. It couldn't have been more than a couple weeks since he last visited Hoenn, and that was a messy reunion. There wasn't a doubt in his mind that he would be questioned about his relationship with Kuzumi, but for now, he didn't have time to think about it. Rather, his main focus would have to be somehow reaching Magma headquarters within two to three days. "Have you any ideas for a quick means of transportation?" Yuki inquired as he glanced up at Xaviero. Before the Italian was given a chance to respond, the youth would start to head into Slateport, apparently aimed to check out Stern's Shipyard. Hopefully the captain himself would be at the yard, otherwise Yuki would be forced to head towards the local Contest Hall. "If not, then I'm sure something can be arranged." |

Xaviero frowned slightly, his eyes narrowing behind his glasses as Yuki dismissed his idea. It wasn't the fact that Yuki had shot down his thought so much as the fact that what he replied with seemed odd. A "greater force?" The Italian pondered the idea in his mind, trying to think of the unimaginable. What sort of force could suppress memories in such a factor? His only knowledge with memory loss was caused by the mind itself, or by injuries damaging part of the mind. That part he knew quite well. Memories of special experiments, requested by the top officials in Team Rocket filled his mind. The only way to truly "brainwash" a Pokemon for use was through types of brain damaging that would eradicate memories. He was well versed in that particular type of memory loss. Pokemon. As a student, the Italian had always been fascinated with mythology associated with legendary Pokemon. A certain verse popped into his mind at the thought of memory loss. Look not into the Pokémon's eyes. In but an instant, you'll have no recollection of who you are. Return home, but how? When there is nothing to remember? He frowned slightly, glancing to Yuki as he mulled over the details of that particular myth. The Pokemon discussed in the verse, Uxie, could supposedly eradicate one's memory by looking someone in the eye. That is why it was always depicted with its eyes closed in all of the art he had seen. Could it be that something like that that was causing Yuki's memory loss? Before he had a chance to voice such a suggestion, however, the young professor threw another question out, inquiring about where they would begin their search for the elder Latias. It was in that moment that Xaviero realized just how little the two of them actually knew about their self-delegated mission. They had traveled to an entirely different region, but they had no idea where to start. They had risked everything, going behind the back of their syndicate, manipulating it to get what they needed to go right under its nose. And for what? Only to arrive in Hoenn and realize that they had no starting point. They were responsible for the deaths of two Umbran grunts and their Pokemon. Those people may have had families waiting nervously at home for their return. Perhaps even children that depended on them. The thought made a shiver run down the Italian's spine as he sighed in irritation, clenching his hand around the railing tightly enough to cause his knuckles to turn white. Just then, the Umbran grunt from before came to announce their arrival. Unfortunately, the Italian was not quite so good at suppressing his irritation as Yuki. He shot a sharp glance to the grunt, snapping, "No way? I never would have guessed... No wonder Umbra is paying you so much. Your powers of observation are so keen." His words were sharp, bitterness and sarcasm dripping from them. He turned his head, looking at the sand of Slateport as an irritated sigh escaped his lips. He realized that he was still clenching the railing of the boat and released it, noticing the dull pain in his knuckles. He moved to exit the ship, only to hear Yuki's next suggestion about visiting a toy. While Xaviero was tempted to remark that they had not gone to a foreign region to play, he bit his tongue. He recognized that this was Yuki speaking, and that when Yuki suggested something like that, it tended not to be arbitrary. Rather than respond to the teen, he merely nodded his head, accepting the suggestion. While they exited, the Italian frowned, realizing that they did not have any form of transportation, now that they were here. He shook his head, saying "Time to start arranging, then." His response was rather laconic. However, that was normal when he was irritated about something. It was one of the clearer signs that something was bothering him, as his face remained calm. He followed his superior without another word, eyes daring the pedestrians walking around to say something to him. |

When Xaviero's temper revealed itself, Yuki chose not to comment on it. Everyone had a temper of some degree, after all, and there are no exceptions it matters of falling victim to it. Yuki himself was prey to his own, sadistic, nature, and so the boy was firmly convinced that no one was an exception to the rule. It never occurred to the younger Umbran to wonder as to why his demeanor changed into something so uncharacteristic of him. It would be sometime before he realized what his true nature really was. "Very well then." The young scientist responded to his companion's words. It was no surprise that he was in a position that required the arrangement of transportation, but the boy still found it to be troublesome. Still, there would be no complaints as he continued to lead Xaviero to Stern's Shipyard. As the two approached, a man at work happened to decide to look over and notice them. Due to his nature, the man prepared to call out a greeting to the pair when he realized that the Italian didn't seem all that pleasant. Because of this, he quickly ducked back down to resume his work, though he couldn't stop himself from pausing as he thought about the other male. There was something familiar about Xaviero's companion, and because of this thought, the man chose to sneak a quick glance at the approaching figures. Upon doing so, he found he recognized the youth, and the man automatically called out a greeting despite knowing better. The only upside to this was the boy with yellow eyes was, in fact, the kid he expected, and soon an inviting smile graced his lips. "Looking for the captain, Yuki?" After Yuki voiced the affirmative, the man gestured to the other side of the rather large building. "He's working on that project, but I doubt he'd care if you stop by to interrupt." At that, the man saluted Yuki before he returned to his work, careful not to accidentally cast a wary glance at Xaviero. The Italian was clearly already irritated, and the last thing this worker wanted was that scientist-looking guy to get irritated with him. Upon learning that Stern was actually at the Shipyard, and working on a pet project at that, Yuki decided to pick up his pace. It wouldn't be long before the two rounded the building's corner and spotted the very man Yuki was looking for. Apparently Stern was completely focused on looking over blueprints, for he didn't even notice the approaching figures. Seeing as how the younger Umbran wasn't interested in wasting time, Yuki called out for Stern's attention. At first the man didn't respond, but after a more forceful call for attention, the man paused in his work to glare at the unlucky idiot that dared distract him. The glare quickly disappeared however, for Yuki's glowering expression warned him not to make any fuss. "Yuki, my boy!" Stern greeted as he cast a critical glance at the older scientist. "Birch have you running errands again, and with an aide at that? No wonder neither of you look happy." It was a joke, of course, for nearly everyone that was connected to Yuki in some way was aware that the boy was on "vacation" from the "real world". Still, it was the first thought that came to the captain's mind when he noted that Xaviero appeared to be a scientist. "Cute, Stern," Yuki replied as he shook his head, though there was a momentary pause as he looked away. Due to a habit developed many years ago, the boy's hand automatically rose to scratch his cheek. "But, you are right about our running an errand." When the captain laughed at this, Yuki let out a sigh before he turned to face the man. "We need to get to Lavaridge Town. Could you provide us a means to reach Route 111?" It was a rare occurrence when the youth actually asked for anything, and due to this, the man was compelled to give. "Your friend here, can he drive? If so, then take my truck; you know where the bikes are." With that said, the man fished out a set of keys from his pocket, unhooked one key, and tossed it to Yuki. "You know who to leave the car with." Once that was done, Yuki turned to Xaviero, a brow raised in silent question. |

Xaviero breathed an agitated sigh, following Yuki through Slateport. On a normal day, he would have enjoyed his vacation. Hoenn was a nice place, after all. He had spent quite some time there in his younger, internship days, but that was before Team Rocket. The Italian's mind drifted to that time, remembering how Slateport had actually been one of his favorite getaway places; a close second to Mossdeep. It was so far from his work he did in Fallarbor, and exuded such a different ambience, that he loved to relax there with his Pokemon on days off. The fact that he had once enjoyed the city seemed only to fuel his irritation, as it forced his mind to his old team, crashing guilt over him, which quickly transformed into anger. For a second, he found the sarcastic thought that he was glad that Chiara was still safely in her Pokeball, as he did not want to subject her to such overwhelming emotions. That was beside the point, however. When they entered the shipyard, Xaviero noticed the man Yuki seemed to know steal a wary glance at him. He frowned slightly, but remained silent. Unless the man did anything to provoke his anger, he'd leave him be. As Yuki and him exchanged a few words, the Italian learned a few new things about his traveling companion. So Yuki knew Birch and Stern in Hoenn, as well. It seemed the adolescent really did get around a lot, Xaviero noted. A slight smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he realized this didn't actually surprise him. But why would they be looking for Stern? It didn't seem like he'd have to wait much longer to find out, though, as Yuki suddenly led him off at a quicker pace. Xaviero just followed along in silence, waiting for his irritation at the situation to tide over. It turned out that the building they were approaching was only two over from where they were, so it wasn't long before they were looking on at a focused Stern. Xaviero had never actually met the sailor, but he had passed the shipyard multiple times years ago. It looked more or less the same, he decided. While Yuki and Stern spoke, the Italian took the chance to take a quick glance around, listening as Yuki requested transportation. When it was inquired if the Italian knew how to drive, he glanced back to the two, one eyebrow quirked in question, as if wondering what was that had to do with anything. A moment later, a key was tossed Yuki's direction, and a truck was offered to the duo. Luckily, the Italian did, in fact, know how to drive. While he had never particularly cared for it and preferred to rely on his late Alakazam for transportation ever since he was young, he knew it was a good skill to have. When Yuki glanced over, silently requesting an answer, the Italian held out his hand for the key. "Of course, I know how to drive..." His voice was carefully restrained, so as to not allow his now-diminishing frustration leak into it. |

((Okay, since you're driving, you get to fast-travel us to Mauville, have us drop it off at a house that you can totally make up, and then have us go biking towards Route 110. Breakable rocks in our way? Go around them, hop over them, have a Psychic-type remove them. Whatever it takes~ We just need to appear at the hidden entrance to Magma headquarters.)) When Xaviero revealed that he was, in fact, able to drive, Yuki found he couldn't stop himself from smirking. Most adults knew to drive, most of the adults Yuki was acquainted with did, but the idea of Xaviero driving amused him. He was well aware that the Italian was probably more used to Teleporting than driving, and it was because of this that he was amused. Nonetheless, Yuki passed the key to his fellow Umbran before motioning for the guy to follow him. As he led his companion to one of the unused buildings, Yuki's mind wandered to his confessions from when they were aboard the ship, and eventually moved to how he executed those Umbrans for getting in his way. The young scientist had no right to sentence others to death, yet it came so naturally, and it was done so swiftly. If he thought about it, he could have sworn that he was compelled by something within him at the time. Judgement made by Its Grace, Passed On to Its King; Execution echoed in the Hall, not a Hint of Hesitation. As Yuki paused at one of the openings of the building, the boy frowned. He didn't know where that came from, for it wasn't something he learned during his travels. Instead of dwelling on his confusion, the youth gestured to the truck that was in the shadows of the building. It wasn't anything outstandingly impressive, just a standard truck that did its job when needed, and did the job well enough. Taking no notice of what the Italian did, Yuki moved further into the back until he found the rack of bikes that lined one portion of the wall. At first the youth was reluctant to grab a bike, for he had a perfectly good scooter somewhere in his PC, but eventually the boy relented. The only reason he had that scooter was because it was difficult to get from one place to the other in the Orre region. As much as he wanted to use his scooter, he didn't want to have to share it with anyone. Everyone had a limit to how much he or she would share. With both bikes down and being wheeled over to the truck, Yuki chose to glance over at Xaviero. At first he seemed to be about ready to say something, an almost unnoticeable sparkle of worldly wisdom in his yellow eyes, but then he turned away to hoist the bikes onto the back of the truck. Whatever it was he was about to say, it was now lost and most likely unknown to the boy himself. Now that everything was set, Yuki moved toward the passenger seat of the truck and slid in. Once inside, the youth chose to roll down his window, and then leaned his elbow on the door so he could rest his chin against his hand. This was the position Yuki would take during the ride, an absent look in his eyes the entire time. Of course, given how much time he spent with the Italian, Xaviero was sure to recognize that absence as Yuki thinking heavily about something. As it was, the boy was thinking about what he would say if Xaviero commented on his connections. Yuki had connections in almost every region he ever visited, though some regions were more resourceful than most others. He was sure it didn't surprise the older scientist, but still, there was always the matter of Yuki's habit of stumbling upon criminal organizations. Whether or not Xaviero was to say anything to the boy, Yuki would abruptly ask, "Do you hate me?" It wasn't what the youth meant to say, and that much was revealed when he visibly recoiled at hearing his own voice. He wasn't sure what was more surprising though, the fact that the question was brought up, or the fact that his voice didn't sound entirely like his. It was his, there was no doubt about that, but there was a deeper, more purposeful touch to the voice, as if its owner was someone of great wisdom. Yuki was reminded of that voice that was too faint to properly here. Although he didn't catch any of the words, he felt the same weight then as he felt just now. That was impossible though, for Yuki didn't believe himself to be very wise, just a bit eccentric. Given the shock this question gave to Yuki, there was ample time for Xaviero to answer it, if he so chose to. Either way, Yuki would eventually rub his face with on hand, deciding that he was in desperate need of sleep. Maybe, after the Eons were returned, he would drop by Mossdeep and check up on the twins. While there, he could wander around, feet in the surf, and eventually find himself lulled to sleep by the ocean. "I must be tired if I'm asking futile questions." |

With the key in hand and the rather lackluster truck in front of him, Xaviero entered the driver's seat, adjusting both the seat and the rear view mirror to a level proper for him. As one hand wrapped around the leather steering wheel, he realized that most of his initial irritation had faded and, although he was still uneasy about not really knowing where they were going, he had more or less calmed down. With everything ready to go, he started the engine. It sputtered at first for a moment, only to come to life with a roar. The Italian stepped on the gas pedal tentatively, unsure how this car ran. As he drove, he remained silent, his right hand on the steering wheel while his left elbow rested on the truck's rolled down window, mirroring Yuki's position. The trip was going with relative ease as the heavy silence filled the air, only to be broken by the sound of Yuki's voice asking a question the Italian would have never expected to be asked. He glanced over to Yuki, eyes indiscernible as one eyebrow twitched upward in question, just in time to see the youth recoil at the sound of his own question. Xaviero frowned, sighing. "No, Yuki, I do not hate you..." he began, trailing off a bit. He was wary to speak, not sure what the purpose of this was. His words were true, as if he disliked the teen, he wouldn't have been so willing to partner up with him so often, and he surely wouldn't be so friendly. After all, they had spent time together outside of work, as well, and on multiple occasions. "What would make you think that?" he asked, unsure how else to continue. When Yuki spoke up about being tired, the Italian scoffed a bit. As far as he knew, the kid didn't sleep at all. Of course he'd be tired. However, the question didn't seem futile to the Italian, especially with the underlying tone he picked up in his voice. Thinking over the tone, he frowned slightly, as he stared at the road in front of them. It had sounded different than Yuki's normal one. Before he could dwell on this any more, however, one foot slammed on the breaks of the car as his eyes widened. A quiet stream of Italian curses came from the Umbran as he glared darkly out the window at their newest obstacle. A swarm of Shroomish stood in front of them, angrily launching Bullet Seeds at the truck, denting the surface and leaving tiny chips in the window. The Pokemon were all growling and grunting in irritation, and it was unclear what had caused it in the first place. The Italian slammed his fist into the steering wheel, blaring the horn at the Shroomish. They were so close to their destination, too! Mauville was only about ten minutes away driving from their current location. "You've got to be kidding me..." he muttered under his breath when the Shroomish didn't move. In fact, the horn seemed only to attract a few Breloom to the middle of the road. In front of them, they then had five Breloom and a swarm of at least thirty Shroomish. The Italian glared darkly at them. Regardless of his membership of an evil organization, he didn't feel the need to cause destruction everywhere he went. Even he seemed to have some sort of moral compass. The Umbran then sighed, undoing his seatbelt and opening the door, eyes never moving from the Pokemon. A stray Bullet Seed connected with his arm, bruising it and earning another stream of swears from the Italian as he pulled out two Pokeballs. He quickly released Chiara and Hanabi, preparing for the battle they were about to face. "Flamethrower, Confusion," he growled to them, assuming this would just be a quick fix, and they'd be on their way. He had assumed that all it would take were a few attacks, and the Pokemon would fee. However, he was dead wrong. As Hanabi and Chiara unleashed their attacks, the Pokemon attacked, shooting more Bullet Seeds in their direction. One hit the Ralts promptly on the head, causing her to squeal pitifully. This only served to anger Hanabi, who then unleashed a torrent of deadly flames towards the middle of the crowd, striking at the middle Breloom. |

It didn't surprise the youth that Xaviero admitted there were no ill feelings between the two, but the boy had no real answer when the Italian inquired about the question. Eventually, the younger Umbran gave up trying to think of why he asked that, and so he opened his mouth to spout out a random response. What came out was that same tone from before, and the answer was more shocking than the fact he had even asked a question. "I did not mean you," It was then that Yuki realized the question really wasn't for his Italian toy, but for himself. Surely that was a crazy thought, yet Yuki felt sure, confident even, that he had asked himself a question. Truly, he went beyond insane at that moment and touched onto plain crazy. Feeling he needed to cover this up, the youth let out a despondent sigh before he added, in his own tone of voice thankfully, "In fact, I never meant to say it. I wanted to ask..." Here, the boy trailed off due to Xaviero stomping on the breaks. Thankfully Yuki was wearing his seat belt, or else he would have either flown out the windshield, or slammed his head against the dashboard; neither idea sounded appealing, especially because he was keenly aware of the lack of airbags in this truck. These thoughts were quickly dismissed however, for the boy was listening to Xaviero curse in Italian while he watched a swarm of Shroomish angrily fire Bullet Seeds at the pair. Yuki couldn't help it: he had to comment on it. "This is why Team Magma is laughable." He couldn't be sure, but he was betting on this swarm to be the very same that once wandered into a Team Magma helicopter without detection. Although there were now Brelooms in the mix, Yuki was confident that the Shroomish at the very front, the one with a a scar in the shape of a tear on its head, was the Shroomish that infuriated Tabitha a few years back. The Magma admin must have dumped these Shroomish here after another invasion of the helicopter he was in charge of. Just as Yuki turned to speak to Xaviero, a warning on the tip of his tongue, the very Italian stepped out of the vehicle and prepared to fight. An automatic reaction that the young professor was sure most reasonable trainers would have done, but one that did not bode well, as far as Yuki knew. It seemed his suspicion was proven accurate when Chiara, the poor thing, was hit over the head by a well aimed Bullet Seed. When Hanabi retaliated with a vengeful Flamethrower, Yuki decided to unbuckle so he could exit the vehicle as well. He made sure to leave his door open so it would shield him from the onslaught of Bullet Seeds as he plucked a cell phone from his PC and dialed Stern's number from memory. As soon as the man answered, Yuki summarized the situation with a, "I don't like Shroomish, and they don't seem to like your truck." Yuki left no time for the captain to respond, for he knew that the man would just swear for the remainder of the call, and so the Umbran hung up before swiftly returning his phone to the PC. Now that this was done, Yuki paused as he allowed his feet to dangle out of the truck, protected by the now battered passenger door. These Pokemon were pretty determined, as revealed when the Pokemon widened in the middle to give room for the Breloom to move away from the Flamethrower. It was clear that it would be a devastatingly time-consuming fight, and Yuki found he was pressed for time, even in his own standards. Two ideas came to mind, and he decided he would try them one at a time. Hopefully it would be taken care of on the first try. Without a word, Yuki plucked Surya's Poke Ball off from his belt; it was one of four Poke Balls that sat on his belt, for he never wanted to be without access to at least one his Pokemon. When the Growlithe appeared on the driver's seat, Yuki turned around so he could gesture to the Shroomish and Breloom. "Roar." Surya, eager to get to work, happily barked in acceptance before he hopped over Yuki to land neatly on the dirt road. It was then that he realized the enemies were spitting Bullet Seeds everywhere. Because of this, Surya made sure to set up an invisible shield to Protect himself from the attacks before he prepared to Roar. It would have to be a truly terrifying Roar to get rid of all of these Pokemon, and so the Growlithe decided to warm up with a menacing growl. The growl quickly escalated into a snarl, then a howl, and finally, the Pokemon was emitting a Roar that even made Yuki flinch, though it could have been because of how close in proximity he was to the Puppy. If that didn't work, then maybe Lexaeus was hungry. |

((Just because it's fun to drag things out to torture our characters... x3)) The Roar echoed across the area, causing Xaviero to freeze, turning to look at the source. Chiara flinched as well, a startled cry tearing itself from her as she clutched Hanabi's fur, burying her face into the Pokemon's fur. She hid behind Hanabi's neck from any other Bullet Seeds that may fly her way. Hanabi, meanwhile, flinched slightly, but was unwilling to be deterred. The Houndoom kept up her Flamethrower, focusing solely on burning them out, despite the fact that the fire didn't seem to frighten them much. The Shroomish and Breloom, upon hearing the Roar, stopped for a split second, as if considering to leave. After that moment, however, mob mentality seemed to get the better of them, and the Pokemon turned their attention to Surya. The angry mushroom Pokemon were shouting at the Growlithe, glaring icily as they prepared more attacks. At this rate, the Pokemon on the humans' side of the field would surely be overwhelmed due to sheer numbers. "Hanabi, focus on that Breloom in the middle." He glanced over to Yuki, who seemed just as impatient about the situation as he was. Did this seriously have to happen? A sigh of frustration escaped his lips and he reached to his waist, hand resting on Accia's Pokeball, ready to take it and summon the Mawile, should they need more help. Hanabi complied, filling her maw with flames before unleashing another Flamethrower toward the Breloom. She growled angrily at it, picking up on the frustration of her trainer. The Breloom jumped out of the path with ease, running forward with a Mach Punch to strike at the Houndoom in retaliation. Hanabi, seeing the move coming, snarled an order at Chiara to Teleport, bracing herself for impact. As soon as the fist collided with her, she snapped down on the Breloom's arms with a maw full of fire-coated fangs. With the Breloom in her mouth, she threw it back into the crowd, unleashing a Howl in an attempt to frighten away the Pokemon. Chiara, frightened by what was happening, Teleported, reappearing inside the truck. She cowered, covering her head timidly. All around her was a flurry of emotions that distracted her. There was so much anger present... She kept her eyes squeezed shut, hiding until she heard her trainer's voice. "Chiara, Confusion." When the Ralts looked up at her trainer, she saw him gazing down at her with an inscrutable expression. She knew that in reality he was exasperated about the situation, and with a timid nod of her head, she Teleported behind Hanabi, focusing on creating an attack to push back all of the Pokemon. The Ralts' eyes began to glow blue and she created a barrier of Psychic energy that slammed into the crowd of Shroomish. It appeared rather harmless, due to the fact that it merely pushed them back a few inches with shock on their faces. The lack of anything happened caused the Psychic-type to recoil a bit, a frown on her face as she realized how poorly she was battling. The Shroomish and Breloom, in retaliation, turned to glare at Chiara, a few launching a stream of Bullet Seeds at her. While she tried to dodge them all, she still ended up being stricken by a few, causing her to fall down, look up at the Shroomish pitifully, and start to cry. The Pokemon were moving closer to the truck and the humans, apparently wanting to push away the truck, for one reason or another. They didn't seem all too fond of the Umbrans and their vehicle. |
