The trees that surrounded the mountain swayed slightly in the cool breeze, bringing relief to any Pokemon or humans that had been hiking on the rocky surface. The sky was free of any clouds, showing its beautiful azure color to whoever thought about staring at the sky. The temperature wasn't so bad, indicating that things would change soon with the slightly cool air cutting through the forest. Honestly, it was a lot better than trekking through the dark and confusing forest that was the Atra forest, what with all of the cold as ice breezes rasping through the naked branches that frightened anyone who was faint-hearted. A young man was sitting up in a tree, taking slow and deep breaths. By the look on his face and hands, he had problems climbing up the tree he was in right now. At least he had a sturdy branch to sit on with his back against the rough bark. A pair of black eyes swivled upwards to the sky, noting a certain scarred, blue Braviary flying around. It seemed to blend somewhat well with the clear, blue sky. Perhaps he could use this to his advantage in a battle? Battle.... A sigh escaped his lips as he looked down to his hands as he clenched them. He would have never thought about battling in the past but now it seemed like the very thought wouldn't leave him be. The thoughts was something he came to hate the most now due to each thoughts changing into the memories he wanted to forget. It was really blurry actually. What he had done in the ruins wasn't clear but all he really knew was that he did kill someone on a simple whim of a creature that lived within him and his friends... he had lost all of them except for Sonny and a few others. He didn't know what to do to redeem himself. "I hate this." He quietly muttered to himself, emotions of anger, hurt, and loathing towards whoever was inside him bubbling within his chest. Why did he have to be the one who had something dangerous? Why couldn't he be spared from this? Why? |

It was amazingly quiet. That was the first thing Xaviero noticed. A soft sigh escaped his lips, the breath's nearly silent noise hidden by the soft rustling of the breeze in the grass beneath the Umbran's feet. He closed his eyes, keeping them shut for just longer than a blink before eyelids fluttered open once more to allow his gaze to drift across the fields that created the side of Mt. Stella. A tiny frown touched his features as he was unable to find whatever he had been looking for. Bringing his fingers to his mouth, he let out a shrill whistle that caused a few Pokemon's heads to snap in his direction to stare at the human making such a commotion in their quiet, peaceful home. The note echoed somewhat, fading back into silence fairly quickly. Xaviero, meanwhile, looked around a bit, turning around just in time to see a Houndoom skidding to a stop, tongue lolled lazily out of the side of her mouth as she panted happily. The sight of the Pokemon brought a soft smile to Xaviero's features, although they hardly touched the steeliness glinting in his eyes. The Umbran patted Hanabi on the head, scratching the base of her horn for good measure before his eyes were slipping across the area once more. "Anything interesting?" he asked softly as soon as his attention was returned to his Houndoom. The Pokemon blinked up at him, her tail swishing once before red eyes drifted to look past Hanabi's trainer and into the blue sky. She could've sworn there was something there... Tilting her head and whining a bit in her confusion, she looked at her trainer. She sat down, only to stand once more when another breeze blew past them. The Houndoom's eyes darted to in the direction of the wind and she stood up suddenly, growling while her eyes rested on one tree out of the entire forest. She sat completely alert, as if preparing to strike at something should they be attacked first. Xaviero peered down at his Pokemon curiously before looking up at the tree, unsure what had piqued Hanabi's interest so much. After approaching a bit closer, he noticed someone in the tree. Raising one eyebrow, he stepped a bit closer, seeing what looked like a miserable man, not much older than eighteen or nineteen. While Xaviero wanted to stay back and let the man do his own thing, Hanabi seemed to have a different idea. The Houndoom darted forward, letting out a howl in challenge to the human, eyes lit up as she stood up, her front paws on the tree and making her almost as tall as the human that followed her. Xaviero, meanwhile, let out a soft whisper of a sigh, shaking his head slightly before murmuring, "Hanabi, no," before raising his voice and apologizing to the man in the tree. |

The sharp whistle and some soft murmuring never reached the young man's ears for he was too busy mulling over his mistakes. As the soft steps came closer, he heard them and snapped out of his thoughts. Unfortnatuely, the sudden howl and the sounds of claws scrabbling against the rough bark of the tree scared him into falling off the branch. What happened next was a bit painful for the young man. He crashed onto a few branches, attempting to catch the branches which ended up making each branches' impact softer and softer, before falling to the ground, knocking his wind out of his body. He let out a few groans before rolling to his side so he could collect himself and stand up, leaning against the trunk. He glanced upwards to see a female Houndoom and its possible owner. "Ah, it's fine. I should've been more careful I guess...." He murmured, rubbing his sides and his belly. There would be no doubt there will be bruises all over his body within hours. He glanced at the female Houndoom, unsure if he should be really careful around it or not. After all, he did not want to involve Mustard and cause problems for this man. "I'm Quincy. What is your name?" Quincy asked, staring at the man in front of him. He wasn't sure if this man was trust-able or not but hey, it wouldn't hurt to see a good person every once a while. However, Mustard had different ideas about this man and his Houndoom. With a low rumble within his throat, he proceeded to swoop over the trees, particularly around where Quincy and the others were at, in an attempt to frighten them off. He flew back into the sky to blend in once again but not before letting out a normal screech. The young man flinched at his own Pokemon's aggressive display and glared at the giant bird before glancing back at the pair in front of him. "I'm so sorry about him! I guess Mustard doesn't really like people." The young man hurriedly apologized. Honestly, it seemed like the eagle couldn't make up its mind about killing him and being so nice to him. It was really creepy... He hoped the Houndoom wouldn't try to challenge the Braviary. |

Hanabi blinked at the soft command from her trainer, promptly sitting down at the base of the tree. That is, until a human came tumbling out of it. Upon the sight of Quincy on the ground and within reach, her tail wagged and a playful growl tore itself from her throat as she seemed to consider whether or not pouncing on him would be deemed acceptable by Xaviero. Glancing back to him, she tilted her head at his reaction. As the man was scared out of the tree by his vocal Houndoom, Xaviero drew in a deep breath, shaking his head slightly with an amused half smirk snaking its way across his features. As he exhaled, he hid any sign of entertainment before peering down at the winded man curiously, only to see Hanabi wanting to play with him. He looked at Hanabi and shook his head slightly, signaling his disapproval, and turned his attention to Quincy once more, opening his mouth to speak, but only to find himself interrupted. A blue Braviary swooped down out of seemingly nowhere, surprising not only Xaviero, but Hanabi as well. The scientist blinked as a shadow covered the ground, looking up to see the large bird. He took a step back, looking at the odd coloration and nodding his approval, a slight grin on his features. The Pokemon had to be rare with that coloration, and its aggression toward Xaviero when he approached the man, who turned out to be his trainer, gave the Umbran the idea that it was rather well trained. Hanabi, on the other hand, had quite an opposite reaction. With the Braviary nearing her, she growled once more, all hints of playfulness eradicated from the threatening rumbles emanating from her as a few licks of flames found their way from her maw. She barked once, a bit of electricity sparking from her fangs as she prepared a Thunder Fang in case the bird decided to attack her trainer. With the fur on the back of her neck bristling angrily, she watched the bird fly back into the cloudless sky. Xaviero placed one hand on Hanabi's back, causing her to immediately lose the outwardly aggressive behavior and sit down on her haunches, silently tracking the Braviary as it flew circles above them. With his Pokemon calmed, he turned his attention back to the trainer in front of him, suddenly realizing that he was apologizing. He nodded curtly, responding, "You've no reason to be apologizing," he said, glancing back to Hanabi before removing his hand and sliding both hands into his pockets, taking on a rather relaxed pose, weight shifted to favor his left side. "I believe I should be the one apologizing for Hanabi's actions," he continued, nodding to his Houndoom while keeping his eyes on Quincy. "I am Xaviero. It is a pleasure to meet you, Quincy.[/color]" As he spoke, his voice remained soft and reserved, eyes revealing nothing as he studied the man in front of him. "This troublemaker," he continued, gesturing to Hanabi and earning an indignant growl in return, "Is Hanabi." With introductions done, Xaviero looked back to his Houndoom, who seemed to have taken to staring intently at Quincy, tail swishing slowly once behind her as red eyes seemed to bore into the man. Curiously, the Umbran glanced back, unsure what seemed to have sparked so much interest. "And what brings you here today?" he inquired, hands sliding out of his pockets smoothly and gesturing widely to the area in which they stood. |

Quincy let out a breath of relief when he realized the Houndoom wasn't going to chase after Mustard. That was a good thing, in a way. Although the dog was probably still a bit mad at the bird for scaring or surprising them both. He didn't care really, just as long as the bird wasn't provoked into a bloody fight. It was never pleasant to control Mustard while he clearly had the intentions to kill. "Ah, it's nice to meet you, Xaviero and Hanabi." He said with a small smile on his face. He glanced over at the duo and realized the Houndoom was staring at him, her red eyes boring into him. Actually, that made him feel nervous and he thought he must've done something wrong until Xaviero spoke up. "Oh, I just thought Mustard would like to fly around in a familiar area and I just needed some quiet place to try to sort... some things out." The younger man explained, his hands seeming to wring each other out of nervousness. Hell, he didn't know why he would be nervous but he tacked it on the Houndoom since she was still staring at him. He swore she must be having other ideas than being nice to him. Get rid of them. Quincy blinked several times and proceeded to scratch the back of his head, possibly to just push those sudden words out of his mind. No, they looked too strong for him. Plus they were so kind to him! He didn't want to find out what would happen if he got on their bad side. With another glance at the dog, if she was still staring at him or not, he assumed she must be sensing something within him. That was the only explanation that sounded nicer than her wanting to harm him. |

Xaviero nodded slightly as he listened to the young man speak, eyes watching the small, unconscious, but telltale signs of nervousness Quincy was giving off. He didn't let them linger too long in one place, though, allowing his eyes to drift across the trainer's features and pick out the little quirks with an expert detail to attention that could only be managed by one trained in a scientific setting. 'He's nervous...' Xaviero noted with a blink that lasted a bit longer than normal, 'But, why?' His right hand drifted down to Hanabi, resting on her head for a moment before scratching affectionately at the base of the left horn protruding from her skull. Hanabi blinked, effectively ending her intense gaze that had been resting on Quincy for a few moments at this point. The Pokemon seemed much friendlier all of a sudden, tilting her head to look up to her trainer, a wolfish grin and bright, blazing eyes seeming a bit out of place on the Dark-type. She gave a soft whine of appreciation and pressed her head against his hand. As soon as Quincy began blinking in what could only be taken as surprise, Hanabi blinked, all signs of friendliness eliminated. Her head snapped toward the human and her eyes hardened, glistening in the sunlight like red hot coals as they bore into Quincy. A deep snarl tore itself from her throat and the fur on the back of her neck bristled slightly as she watched him with complete disregard for the Braviary circling above them. She was not afraid of some bird; she was just acting on instinct, and instinct was telling her that this man was off, that he could be a potential danger. Xaviero retracted his hand as soon as his Pokemon's demeanor changed, eyes sliding down to meet crimson ones for a split second before she stared down the human in front of them. He frowned, almost disdainfully, as he let his eyes flit across her current air, seeing every sign of aggression. "Hanabi..." The name was soft, but with a subtle sternness that caused the Houndoom to glance over briefly, vivid red eyes meeting his own nearly black ones for an instant before they rested once more on the person they had been so lucky, or perhaps, unlucky, to have encountered. There had to be a reason for Hanabi to react so negatively to him; she was not one to preemptively judge others for no apparent reason. He closed his eyes, keeping them shut just longer than a blink, as he shook his head slightly, almost as if he were trying to clear it of any and all thoughts. When his eyes reopened, the Umbran looked at Quincy without moving his head, causing him to peer over the rims of his glasses. He could see the fuzzy outline of the young man with his poor vision, and he tilted his head, raising his right hand to his face to readjust the frames. As his hand moved, his posture did as well; the scientist straightened himself up, hand sliding into his pocket as he adjusted his weight to his left leg. By this point, the young trainer was scratching the back of his head, and Xaviero moved his gaze to look up to the sky, spotting the Braviary that continued to circle them. With a very neutral expression and almost a lazy air about him, the scientist glanced back to Quincy. "Sort some things out?" he repeated, vague hints of a subtle accent tugging at the words, morphing them into what would be deemed 'imperfect' English as he did so. The marring of his words, as he heard them become tainted, caused him to frown slightly for a moment. His brow furrowed slightly and he tilted his head to peer at the young trainer. "Perhaps bouncing your ideas off of a third party could be of use to you?" he suggested offhandedly, disguising his dangerous curiosity as politeness to help a complete stranger. He had set Hanabi off, and Xaviero wanted to know why, regardless of whether or not there would be risk. Amy was not present, so what harm could a little bit of daring adventure cause? A subtle smirk graced his features as he removed his hand from his pocket just long enough to touch Hanabi, a silent signal that he was fully aware of the potential threat. As she quieted, Xaviero inclined his head imperceptibly, the slightest half smile snaking onto his features. Oh, the joys of not having a child to keep safe... This was going to be a fun adventure. |

(SO UH. I ALREADY SAID THIS IN CBOX BUT I FEEL THE NEED TO DO THIS. I"M SORRY FOR NOT POSTING SOONER.) Quincy couldn't help but to flinch a little at Hanabi's deep snarl and her eyes boring into him once more. Oh god what he had done this time? Oh, it was probably that monster, although he couldn't remember just what kind of monster it was. He lowered his hand that had been scratching the back of his head and now placed that hand on his elbow. He gazed upwards, following Xaviero's gaze, to Mustard. The young man looked back at Xaviero, not noticing that he had adjusted his body position a little except for the hand that was now in a pocket. He also noticed the older man was now glancing at him. For some reason, he was getting more nervous now. Perhaps it was just the monster acting on its insticts. "Um... Yeah..." Quincy said, rubbing some parts of his arm now in an attempt to calm himself down, which was working. He noted something in the older man's voice but couldn't tell what it was. It seemed like Xaviero didn't like whatever it was in his voice. "Oh. Um... They're not really idea... Just some mistakes I could have avoided..." He murmured softly, looking down to the long grasses with a frown. At least that was what he thought. He could have done something about what he had done. But they were done. There was nothing he could do now unless he somehow gained an ability to traverse back into time, which wouldn't happen at all. "Are you going to tell me to stop mulling over them? I already heard about that one from adults many times." Quincy muttered. Immediately, he felt bad for saying that. He glanced up at the older man in a guilty way. "Sorry... I didn't mean to... Say that." He said, now confused over his own words. He shook his head and let out a sigh. However, he didn't see Xaviero smiling, nor did he sense something would happen between both of them. |

At Quincy's bitter retort about getting over things, Xaviero couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle, eyes closing for a second as an amused smirk took its hold on his features. Drawing in a deep breath, he shook his head slightly. "No need to apologize," he said. "I can see how that sort of reaction from those around you could cause you to become..." he trailed off for a second, lowering his eyes to the ground as his brow furrowed slightly, revealing his sudden focus to produce the word he was looking for. "Distrusting of adults, perhaps even a bit wary?" The Umbran raised his eyes back up to Quincy, one eyebrow raised in a subtle curiosity as he waited for the young adult's reaction to either confirm or disregard his roundabout prying for information. He crossed his arms, shifting his weight to his left foot, making him appear quite relaxed. Hanabi, on the other hand, continued to watch Quincy like a hawk, although any malevolence in her gaze had faded away into one of disinterest. She rose to her feet and glanced up to Xaviero, glowing red eyes giving away her discomfort around the man in front of them. Her eyes softened, growing almost pleading for a split second. She knew her trainer well enough to know what he was doing. He wanted to make a game out of this person, to amuse himself by piecing together a thorough profile of what drove the man, what was bothering him, and why she would react so negatively to him. With a sigh, she circled her trainer restlessly a few times, eyes remaining locked on the young adult Xaviero was so interested in. Xaviero's eyes drifted to watch Hanabi's movements with mild disinterest. "I would not tell you to stop... How did you say it? ... 'Mulling' over whatever is troubling you." He moved his gaze to focus on Quincy once more, black eyes focusing intently on the man in front of him for a second before he gave a resigned sigh and closed his eyes, running a hand through his hair. When he opened his eyes to peer at Quincy once more, his gaze was much less scrutinizing than it had been previously. "If something is bothering you, the last thing you should do is to ignore it," he added offhandedly, sliding his hand back into his pocket. "If it is on your mind, then you're trying to sort things out. It must have some relevance to your life, or it would not be such a prominent issue..." he trailed off, an amused smirk crossing his face as a soft chuckle could be heard. "However, I am not a psychologist, I'm afraid, so do not hold me to that," he finished with a resolute nod, the smirk fading from his features into something a bit more serious. He hesitated a moment, piecing together words before speaking. "I suppose my point is to not ignore the problem, or to wish you could change it now, but to find a way you can live with it now without feeling regret. What's done is done and can't be changed. But, you can change the way you live now in order to be at peace with the past." The Umbran nodded slightly to himself, taking in a deep breath and closing his eyes before the previous amused smirk snaked its way back across his features. "I am sorry... Quincy, was it? ... I did not mean for this to become a lecture for you. I may be a scientist, but that does not make me a professor. I shall leave the lecturing for them to do." |
