Matt popped his knuckles and looked intently at his pokemon. The orange and black puppy pokemon cocked his head at his trainer but elsewise said nothing. "You ready bud? Just like yesterday." He said with a grin. Scruff, his Growlithe, barked an excited reply. Matt bent down and scooped up a few good sized stones, about the size of a baseball. He put two in one hand and tossed the third up in the air catching it softly in his palm.

Scruff dipped his body in the canine specie's customary 'play bow' and let out a small growl as he smiled. "Let's start out with that flame burst, ok boy?" Matt asked. "On your mark!" He yelled. Scruff wagged his tail, although he was a little overexcited so his haunches sort of shook with the motion. He let out a bark, and Matt understood it's meaning; "Pull!"

Matt heaved the stone and watched as it sailed through the air. He tried to track it, but it had gone too far, at least for his eyes. Scruff narrowed his eyes and built up the fire in his mouth. Watching. Waiting for the stone to reach the peak of it's flight. When it did he opened his maw and expelled a large gobbet of fire, though it was more the consistency of napalm than pure flame. Matt watched the orange and red projectile sail through the air in awe. He waited to see if it collided with it's target but it kept on sailing until it dwindled, swallowed up by the sky. The stone landed yards away with a soft, but audible, 'thud'.

"That's ok, Scruff, you'll get the next one. I know you can do it, I've seen you! Focus this time buddy!" he said encouragingly to his partner. The Growlithe barked again and Matt sent the next stone sailing through the air. The pokemon growled proudly and sent another flame burst sailing from his mouth with a whoosh and a flash of heat. Matt again watched the gobbet of fire as it rushed towards the stone. This time the move connected.

Against the blue backdrop a bright red and orange puff exploded as the move hit the rock, instantly vaporizing it. Matt jumped up and cheered. Scruff jumped up as well barking triumphantly. Matt walked a couple yards away and smiled at his pokemon, his next move would test his pokemon's aim as well as his reflexes. "On your mark, Scruff!" Matt called. The pokemon looked towards the sky and barked. This time though Matt didn't send the stone sailing through the air. This time he sent it rocketing straight towards his pokemon.

Scruff twitched as he realized the rock wasn't going in the air. He built up the attack, but the rock was coming in fast. In a frantic attempt to stop the rock he let the attack go. It sailed forth from his mouth, not as accurate as the last two had been, but Scruff had compensated for this by making the move larger than the other two. The flame burst hit it's mark though and the stone was just a puff of hot dust a few yards in front of the Growlithe, who smiled at his trainer thinking his trick was challenging and fun.

Matt returned his pokemon's grin. "Good job!" Matt praised, "You've improved a lot over the past few days. Two out of three? And on the day's first try too! A hellofalot better than two out of...oh dear i dont know how many! Still the point is, the day you get all of them is the day you quit improving." Matt lavished praise on his puppy's head by ruffling the spot between his ears. The pokemon closed his eyes and enjoyed his petting. "We gotta work on your flamethrower now. I want it to be powerful, but I don't want you to hurt anyone using it...that is unless you have to, that is." Scruff barked and made his way over to a blackened boulder that the two had obviously been using to practice the said technique. Scruff looked back at his trainer tongue lolling from his mouth. "You see that gray spot?" Matt asked as he pointed to an uncharred part of the stone. Scruff nodded. "I want you to make that part black, actually..." Matt changed his mind and walked towards the boulder. He reached down and picked up a piece of charcoal that had been made sometime when the two started their training and drew a circle about a foot in circumference on an unburnt face of the rock. "There...now I want you to make that part black, and just that part...think you can do it?" He asked. Scruff barked and nodded. Matt backed up and watched. "Ready? Flamethrower, now!" he cried.

Scruff built the fire up in his belly and opened his jaws. The attack came out as a funnel at first then quickly built into a steady stream hitting right in the center of circle Matt drew seconds earlier. The stream fluctuated in size but remained inside the circle. "Mmmm good! Keep it up Scruff!" he cried. Scruff growled and increased the flames intensity. The Fire turned from red-orange, to a bluish color. The heat picked up but Scruff did not let up. The fire stream then went from blue to almost white in color, the heat from it was so bad that Matt had to look away and cover his face. Then just as abruptly as it had started the flame ceased as Scruff closed his maw, closing off the source of the heat. When the heat died Matt looked on in awe.

In the center of the ring that he had drawn the stone was a bright yellowish and dripping. A hole had been melted all the way through and it dripped against cool untouched stone and sizzled. The out of breath Growlithe looked at his trainer. Matt had to remember to close his mouth. "That...is...amazing!" he said, dumbfounded. "What else can you do?" The two had been working on concentration and power of the technique, but Matt didn't know just how strong the pokemon had become from practicing the move, he wanted to see what more Scruff could do.

Scruff barked happily twice and let loose another jetstream of fire. This time, though, the technique covered the whole face of the rock. The heat blaring forth was intense, but Matt watched on too excited to look away. When the Growlithe cut his move off, and sat there panting, the rock's face was yellow gold and steaming. It drooped a bit but the cold mountain air cooled it down quickly. After a couple of minutes the rock reverted back to it's original state. But it's shape had been changed.

The face the technique hit was smooth as marble and looked as if it had been pushed back. Where the fire had not touched, however, there were jagged spikes of stone facing away from them. The flamethrower technique had molded the rock so it looked like a ballpin hammer with a meat tenderizer on the other side. The hole made from the first attack still remained although it was significantly smaller now.

"Thats intense!" Matt cried as he stepped up behind is Growlithe scratching him behind the ears. "You're gonna be a force to be reckoned with Scruff." he said quietly. The Growlithe said nothing, just starred intently at the rock he had just polished with his own flame.

That's a might powerful Flamethrower. << I approve of the practicing to master it, but the intensity is a bit much given Scruff's still quite inexperienced.
