Akrepi picked up his pack that was laying at his feet just moments ago. Barely outside of Starling City; he had decided to finally leave his 'home' behind. After all, now it was just an empty building. He slung his pack over his shoulder, the only things in his possession being a few empty pokeballs, about a week's worth of food and water and his sleeping bag.

He started his trek at about noon and soon it was already sunset. The dirt road crunching underneath his feet, he continued to walk as it got progressively darker. Despite the darkness that now hung in the air, as the sun had gone down, he did not pause. He had always been more of a night person anyways.

As he walked along he thought back to the day that his life started to change.

~
Young Akrepi was playing around in the yard with his father’s Glaceon, although he was the family pet. His name was Jack, and he loved to run. Every time Akrepi would catch up to him, he would dart off to the other end of the yard and Akrepi would chase after him again. This would usually go one for about an hour before Akrepi became too tired to keep up with the energetic Glaceon.

He caught up with him again and gave Jack a hug to hold him in place, before Jack wriggled out of his grip and darted off again, only this time when Jack got to the other end of the yard a strange man dressed in all black grabbed the Glaceon around the stomach and carried him off as fast as he could. Akrepi ran inside to tell his father and by the time that they came back outside, the man, and Jack, were gone.
~

After that things really went down-hill. His mother died of an unknown sickness, and his father disappeared. Akrepi took care of his younger sister for a while before she too ran away. Left alone, Akrepi boarded up his old home and left, taking only what he felt he would need.

Having walked for most of the day, Akrepi turned off the path to search for a good place to set up a camp for the night. After making it only about 4 steps, he tripped, falling face first in the dirt.

“Ow…” He rolled over onto his back and saw that he had tripped over a fallen log. As he picked himself off the ground he saw a dim purple light coming out from one end of the log. Setting his pack down he walked over; crouching down he peeked into the log only to jump back a moment later when his hat almost caught fire.

Hitting his hat against his knee to kill any potential fire, he set it back on his head and looked inside the log again, but not as close this time. Inside was a small Litwick, with a small purple flame burning on its head, although the flame was very small and the Litwick appeared to be hungry. Reaching in very carefully with his hand, thankful that he wore gloves, he tried to pick up the little pokemon only to have it burn his sleeve.

Pulling his arm out he threw his coat off and stomped on the burned section to prevent the rest of the coat from catching fire. Not wanting to scare the little pokemon, he tried again, more slowly this time. When he felt his hand brush up against the wax body of the Litwick he carefully lifted the small creature up and pulled it out of the log.

“Well aren’t you a feisty one.” He said to the candle like pokemon in his hand. In response, the litwick blew a puff of smoke out at him. “Hey, hey, hey, I’m here to help you.” He set the litwick down on the ground and started rummaging through his pack. Pulling out a piece of bread, he turned round only to see the little Litwick hobbling back towards the log. He walked over to Litwick and showed it the bread. “Hungry?”

Abandoning his pursuit towards the log, Litwick started jumping up and down to get the bread. Akrepi chuckled and set the piece of bread down for him and watched as Litwick at it, his flame returning to normal size. “Feel better little one?” In response, Litwick jumped up and hugged his leg. “haha, I guess that’s a yes.”

Litwick hopped down and Akrepi rummaged through his sack again, this time pulling out his sleeping bag. He stretched it out on the ground and picked his coat off the ground. He pulled his hat off his head and set it and his coat down on top of the log. “I guess this is as good as any place to set up for the night.” He pulled his bag open and got comfortable while Litwick went back to his log for the night.

(The next morning)

Akrepi opened his eyes slowly, only to find them covered in white wax. It would seem the during the night, Litwick had decided to leave his log and came to sleep by Akrepi… or more accurately ON Akrepi. Carfully he pulled Litwick off of his face and set him down on the ground next to him. Sitting up he looked over at the little candle pokemon. “You’re a strange one, I can say that much for sure.”

Litwick woke up a few minutes later to find that Akrepi had already packed up his sleeping bag and was currently pulling his coat back on. As he reached to grab his bag, Litwick hopped on over and sat by the bag. “Well what’s this? Getting attached little one?” Litwick hobbled over to him and hugged his leg. “Do you want to come with me?” Litwick let go and looked up at him, nodding happily.

Akrepi reached into his bag and pulled out a pokeball. “If you want to come with me, I need to catch you.” He set the pokeball down on the ground next to Litwick and waited for the little candle pokemon to make his decision. Litwick moved over to the pokeball and clicked the little button. Turning into red energy he was pulled into the pokeball which shook once before Litwick was actually captured.

Reaching down he picked up the Pokeball and threw it, letting Litwick out. “Looks like you and I are gonna be traveling together now.” Litwick bounced around happily. “All you need is a name then… how about… Kaji?” Litwick nodded happily, accepting the name. “Alright then, Kaji it is.” He held his arm out for Kaji and he hopped on and sat on Akrepi’s shoulder. “Let’s go then.”

And with that, Akrepi and Kaji started down the road again, heading out to go anywhere but where they came from…
