Tina's first stop in Brevis Village should have been the Pokemon Centre, but instead it was the laundrette. Although her jeans were dry she couldn't ignore that faint sour smell of her own body fluids and couldn't stand another minute of the shame of having wet herself earlier. Being clean was the only thing that was going to make her feel better. In his state of suspended animation, she figured her injured totodile wouldn't be in any pain inside his pokeball.

Clean and dry, she could finally relax and breathe easy. The little village had a cosy, country feel about it. Not exactly her scene, but it seemed safe and inviting anyway. The pokemon centre wasn't hard to find and when she saw it she made a run for it. Getting Osvaldo healed was her next priority.

The inside of the pokemon centre was sleek and modern, not quite in the style of the rest of the village. It wasn't too busy, to be expected of a small village. The few other pokemon trainers seemed to have already been attended to, so Tina made her way to the front desk and called for the nurse.

“Hello?” Tina called, leaning over the counter with Osvaldo's pokeball in her left hand. “My pokemon needs checked out.”

The nurse approached sleepily. “Oh... sorry. It's been awful...” She paused to cover her yawn with her hand before continuing, “... slow today. How may I help you?”

Tina rolled her eyes at having to repeat herself. “I said my pokemon needs checked out.”

The nurse tried to keep a professional demeanour but seemed slightly taken aback by Tina's rudeness. “Well, um... Why don't you give me his pokeball and we'll put him on the machine?”

Tina handed the pokeball over to the nurse without saying a word. The nurse carried the pokeball over to the regenerator and placed the ball into one of the six slots. There was a flash, much like that of a scanner machine, before a 'ding' signified that the job was done. The nurse took the ball and handed it back to Tina.

“One of Professor Redwood's water types?” She asked while handing Tina the ball as she had noticed the blue droplet symbol painted on the surface of the capsule.

“He gave it to me!” Tina snatched and held it close, paranoid that the nurse was accusing her of stealing it.

“O-of course he did.” The nurse agreed awkwardly, before deciding she's had enough of this girl's attitude and walked away a bit bemused.

Tina kept staring at the nurse until she was out of sight, before turning her attention to her totodile's pokeball. Her intention was simply to make sure the job had been done properly, and that her totodile was ready to battle again. She tossed the pokeball onto the floor to let Osvaldo out. In a flash of red light the little green crocodile appeared. He stood with his back to Tina, looking around the Pokemon Centre and wondering where he was, before turning around and seeing his trainer.

He seemed a lot more relaxed now, but hardly happy to see Tina. He folded his arms and flicked his head to one side to convey his indifference. That's when Tina saw it - he still had a chunk missing from his right brow. It was sealed and scarred, but it hadn't gone away. To Osvaldo's surprise, Tina grabbed him and lifted him up so that he was standing on the counter.

“Hey, nurse!” Tina called angrily.

The nurse walked up to the counter warily bracing herself for some kind of backlash from this rude customer.

“You didn't do it right!” Tina pointed at the scar on Osvaldo's brow. “Look at that!”

The nurse squinted her eyes and closely inspected the scar. “What happened here?”

Osvaldo reached up to feel. The sides of his mouth turned up into a smile. He looked rather proud of his new battle scar.

“Spinarak bite.” Tina responded bluntly.

“Well...” The nurse had a think of the best way to word her answer in such a way that Tina wouldn't get upset. “Sometimes when certain dermal layers are removed, depending on the severity, they can't regenerate exactly as they were before. I'm afraid your totodile can't regenerate the lost tissue, in the same way that you or I would be unable to regenerate a lost hand or leg. He will be left with a scar, I'm sorry.”

Tina glared at the nurse, considering her explanation. “Well do something about it then.”

The nurse frowned at being ordered by this brattish girl. “There's nothing that can be done short of plastic surgery, and we do not provide that service here. Now, if that will be all...?”

Tina grabbed Osvaldo and put him down on the floor before giving the nurse one last annoyed glance, as though it were her fault Osvaldo was left with a scar. Osvaldo, however, couldn't keep his attention off the scar for other reasons. It was a badge of honour, a symbol of the battle-hardened warrior. He almost couldn't wait to find a mirror.

Tina took a seat on the bench to compose her thoughts. Subconsciously at the back of her mind, the bratty tough-guy act took a lot out of her and always left her with a bitter taste in her mouth. For a split second her face flashed with remorse before her facial muscles tightened back into a scowl. She couldn't let anyone see that she was anything but tough and mean, no matter how terrible at it she was. If she were to show anything else she feared that she would only be picked on again.

((Hope you don't mind my jumping right in.))

Around this time, an eighteen-year-old youth chose to pass by, though it was a reluctant choice. The dark haired youth happened to be following his Aipom which, unsurprisingly, decided its trainer needed a taste of life with people again. Apparently the Long Tail Pokemon wanted to wander around inside the Pokemon Center at that particular moment, and so it scampered right-on in while Jayden shook his head.

As usual, the teen was wearing his sleeveless white tee, a jeans jacket with sleeves torn off making the edges fray, fingerless black gloves that were turning dark grey, fading jeans that were torn at the knees, and his worn out, dirty hiking boots. Of course, since he traveled with Pokemon, he wore a belt that held six Poke Balls. To complete his appearance, the boys well-defined facial features revealed an intimidating scowl and ever glaring dark brown eyes, though his eyes were often mistaken as black.

With one sweep of his eyes, the male spotted an opening beside Tina on the bench and approached. With a surprisingly soft-spoken tone, the boy inquired, "Mind if I join you?" As he waited for the response, his eyes glanced briefly over to the green Totodile before returning to meet Tina's eyes. It seemed he was rather used to oddly colored Pokemon despite his Aipom appearing to be nothing more than average.

Tina barely noticed the teenager ask if he could join her. She didn't even think he was talking to her at first. Nobody even close to her own age did, unless it was to make fun of her for failing at pretty much everything, so she assumed the older teen was talking to someone else. However Osvaldo was looking up, which made Tina glance up at the person standing in front of her.

To Tina he was pretty much a man, a strange and intimidating man at that. While she often pretended to fear nothing, the fact was she feared strangers as much as any paranoid parent's child, and often tried to hide that fear with her interpretation of courage. She frowned and tightened her lip which in her mind made her look pretty intimidating back. To any onlooker, though, she looked more like she was trying to hold in a fart.

“Yeah.” Tina answered casually, but also too keenly. “Yeah you can join us. You a pokemon trainer, too? I got a totodile. Totodile are tough, you know.”

Osvaldo was watching the entire time and couldn't help but inch away from her slowly, trying to make it seem like he wasn't her pokemon.

As soon as Tina gave the okay, Jayden gave a brisk nod and then dropped down onto the bench beside her. If he noticed the look Tina was making, then he did well at hiding it. However, appearances weren't always as they seemed, for Jayden was suddenly concerned as to whether or not his actions offended the girl.

When the female trainer announced that her Pokemon was a Totodile and that Totodiles were tough, Jayden's natural frown deepened as he considered the girl's words. "I'm not a trainer, no, but I have heard that Totodiles are tough." He replied thoughtfully as he glanced over his shoulder to see Tina. From the corner of his eye though, he could see the Big Jaw Pokemon trying to act as if it wasn't involved with the girl.

With a gesture, the boy pointed out his Aipom which was apparently making friends with the local Audino and Chansey of the Pokemon Center. "That's the Aipom I'm traveling with, Ai. He's pretty tough too, though not so tough that he'd be trouble to train." At the mention of the monkey's name, Ai glanced over and grinned at Jayden before it scampered over. Soon enough, the Aipom was resting on the Wanderer's shoulder and watching Tina curiously.

((Lol, you think so? Believe it or not, she's based off of me from about 10 years back. So if you're laughing now, imagine what it was like IRL... a bit sad actually come to think of it, but I'm glad I managed to make Tina funny and not just plain weird or silly.))

His claim of not being a pokemon trainer, yet owning a pokemon, piqued Tina's curiosity. The thought had never occurred to her that people could still train pokemon even though they're not technically a trainer. She watched the aipom known as Ai rejoin with its trainer. She stared at its large, round eyes for a moment since it was the very first time she had ever seen an aipom up close. Distracted, she had dropped her façade, her expression becoming more natural and relaxed, not forced or tense like she normally kept it.

"Then..." Tina began slowly. "If you're not a trainer, what is it you do? Does Ai fight?" Her voice had softened since she had let her guard down, still distracted by her own curiosity.

Osvaldo had managed to make his way up to the counter where he was standing with his arms folded and leaning back with one foot up against the wall of the counter. He pretended not to listen, but he was keeping one ear-hole out, waiting to see how this would unfold. He prayed inwardly that the boy might propose a trade.

"Oh." Tina's face tightened again as she noticed she was getting a bit too relaxed. "You forgot to tell me your name. Mine is Tina, by the way, not anything else, especially not Martina!"

Upon being asked what it was that he did and whether or not Ai could fight, Jayden's scowl deepened further. If he was trying to appear intimidating, then he might have been succeeding, unless anyone bothered to consider the thoughtful gleam in his eyes as he considered Tina's questions. It wasn't until Ai patted him on the head that Jayden's scowl reverted to the calmer frown that he typically wore.

"I just... wander, really. Usually I try to avoid places where people gather, but Ai is convinced that I need a social life." At that, the boy gently nudged his Aipom off his shoulder, appearing quite annoyed with the Pokemon, though not intending to. Ai, not fazed at all by the look and nudging, chuckled and chose to settle down on the Wanderer's lap instead. "But yeah, Ai does fight when needed."

When Tina remarked that he failed to introduce himself, the boy had the inane idea that it was his failing to introduce himself that initially irritated the female trainer. It was clear that he didn't even notice the shift in Tina's attitude, though if he did, then he was pretty good at pretending. After Tina introduced herself and made it clear that she didn't want to go by Martina, Jayden nodded.

"I'm Jayden. Uh, just... just Jayden, I guess."

About this time, a group of obnoxiously loud trainers strode into the Pokemon Center, led by a male youth that was apparently bragging about some victory he had. "By the time I was done with her, her Skitty was practically a doormat for my Electabuzz to stomp all over!" At that, the crowd started to laugh as if the guy's comment was the funniest joke in the world.

Jayden, being his typical self, glanced over to watch as the group settled down on the ring of couches not far away. Before he could catch any of the trainers' eyes however, he looked away and focused on Tina, though the way he clenched his fists made it obvious that he disapproved of those people. Even Ai seemed irritated with the guy's comment, though the Aipom was making a clear effort to keep its trainer calm.

While she was scowling intimidatingly, Tina was smiling inside. It was the first time in a long time that anyone had spoken to her without making fun of her. After a short while she couldn't help crack a smile over the fact that an older boy was talking to her, the laughing stock of an entire school. Not only that but the rugged wanderer seemed cool and mysterious to Tina. It was exciting. She knew if her dad were around he would flip his lid.

When the new arrivals strode into the pokemon centre and started bragging, Tina couldn't help but shift her attention away from Jayden and towards the loudest and most boastful of the group. Her eyebrows scrunched closer together and her cheeks flushed a reddish pink colour. She immediately hated him, staring at him threateningly - a sign that she herself felt threatened.

At the mention of an electabuzz, Osvaldo's eyes widened and his gaze shifted to the source of the bragging, though he tried his best to keep his leaning-with-his-arms-folded pose. His sudden look of fear didn't escape Tina's notice, though he probably wished it had. Of course it made sense, he was a water type and weak to electricity. However Tina couldn't help wonder if Osvaldo was expecting a battle with this trainer. Why else would he be so afraid?

Tina noticed Jayden frowning and while she couldn't be certain she suspected that he didn't like the sound of them either.

“He sounds like an asshole, doesn't he?” Tina said not loud enough for the others to hear, but loud enough that she didn't sound too afraid to say it. Having been deprived of any positive or even neutral attention from any fellow teenager, Tina felt it was imperative that she establish some common ground with Jayden, fearful of losing the opportunity to make her first friend.

Unfortunately for Tina, she couldn't hold down any emotion for long. While most people could hide their anxiety, fear, anger or excitement to an extent, Tina was hopeless at it. If she suppressed it one way it would emerge in another, in this instance it manifested itself as trembling in her core and limbs, enough to make the overloaded chains on her jeans jangle lightly and rhythmically.

“Hey, it's really cold in here, the AC is way too high. You wanna come outside with me? I want to see more of Brevis Village.”

"It's a rotom," Julian explained to the Pokémon that was sitting on his shoulder. "Look, this is an extremely rare form of it. See how it's a different color? Maybe it's like you.

"I like that one better, because it's different, like us. What do you think?"

The mudkip nuzzled Julian, pleased to be with the trainer but bored out of her mind. Whatever she might have imagined would happen if she left the lab, it wasn't sitting in a Pokémon Center, looking at pictures of electric-type Pokémon. If Julian wanted one so badly, why did he choose her, a water-type, one that was weak to electricity?

Yet Julian obviously cared for her. After they left the lab, he grimly confessed his situation: he had nowhere to stay, no friends, little money, and no healing items. It would be tough starting out, but he was willing to try.

After an hour of walking, however, Julian's enthusiasm dimmed. The path was difficult and the sunlight harsh and unforgiving. When Julian found a bus station, he gladly accepted a ride to the next town. When he arrived, he wasn't any more cheerful. He had little money, and he still hadn't eaten anything, which was why he ended up crouched beneath a window at Le Restaurant Micle. "You're not much of a thief, are you?" he asked his Pokémon. "We could attack someone and steal their food."

The mudkip shivered. "I'm just joking," Julian reassured her, patting her head gently, salivating at the thought of even a crumb of what they were serving inside. "Maybe the people at the Pokémon Center can help us."

While the mudkip was remembering that, Julian was running potential names through his head. He didn't know any rivers. He would have named it after that Pokémon in the desert, except he hadn't even given it a name. The name he liked best so far was "Freshwater," but that was a little odd, especially after he discovered that freshwater was a bottled beverage. My name is odd, though. Julian Variance Dissident and Freshwater?

"...doormat for my Electabuzz to stomp all over!" Julian looked up from his book, the name electabuzz meaning something of interest to him. When he saw the trainers, however, he scowled, absentmindedly placing a protective hand over his Pokémon. Julian had contempt for loud people of any sort, but something was different about these ones. They were almost like Galactic grunts.

Julian shivered. "Let's mess with some wires," he whispered to the Pokémon. "Something about those trainers doesn't seem right."

Julian left the Pokémon Center and started connecting bits of electronics. The mudkip watched, curious but anxious. "We leave a trap," Julian explained. "Electabuzz is an electric type. The Pokéballs of electric types give off a small charge. You'll see the rest."

The mudkip burrowed its head in Julian's shirt. Was this worth the risk? Did Julian actually have a temper?

Without much thought, the Wanderer agreed with Tina's comment about the guy whom was bragging about using an Electabuzz to defeat a Skitty. As he rose to his feet, the Aipom now resting comfortably on his shoulders once more, Jayden replied, "So proud to beat a Skitty even though Kittens are more playful than aggressive." The very idea that someone practically destroyed a Skitty put a foul taste in the Wanderer's mouth, and suddenly he found himself scowling fiercely.

It never occurred to him before then that he grew quite attached to Skittys in general. Leaving the Pokemon Center sounded like a grand idea to the teen, especially since it seemed his companion was quite cold if the trembling was anything to judge by. "We should head out; maybe we'll find someone respectable out training." Although he didn't mean to, his voice rose just enough for others nearby to hear him, and the gang that entered earlier abruptly quieted because of his words.

"You got a problem with me, cupcake?" The leader of the group demanded in a cruel snarl. Clearly any attempts at leaving would be lost causes, for suddenly the three people he arrived with stood up and pulled out Poke Balls. Jayden, having chosen to look over his shoulder to watch the group, realized with dread what he just did. "What, cat got your tongue, twerp?"

That seemed to be the last straw for Jayden, though thankfully his Aipom covered his mouth to keep the boy from snapping. He had a temper, it seemed, though for good reason. There wasn't a chance for the Wanderer to remove Ai's grasp over his mouth, for at that moment, the nurse chose to cut in with a warning that there was to be no battles in the Pokemon Center.

While the Electabuzz trainer replied that he didn't mean any harm, Ai took the chance to force Jayden to head towards the door. With his tail, the Aipom gestured for Tina to follow and hoped that no trouble would join them out the door. Granted, a good brawl was probably what his trainer needed, but involving a person they just met wouldn't be a great way to start a companionship.

((Sorry, what do you mean by theme and yellow?))

Tina didn't like the look of this at all. She had seen and contended with these types before in school. They weren't the types that fought when they needed to. They fought for the sake of fighting and were always on the lookout for their next brawl. It was obvious in the fact that Jayden's words would have been brushed off by any normal person, but not them. They stood up and threatened him. Not verbally, but the way they all held out their pokeballs indicated to Tina that they intended to engage in a very unfair fight.

Fortunately the nurse had taken notice. The gang no longer felt quite as comfortable with the watchful eye of one of the pokemon's staff members constantly upon them. Fortunately, also, Jayden seemed like quite a level-headed guy and took the opportunity to make his escape to the door, with the aipom on his shoulder gesturing for Tina to follow.

Faced with these kinds of situations, however, Tina was not so level-headed. In school, Tina had to contend with these types knowing she would be seeing them again every day. In dealing with them it had become instinctive to make herself seem more trouble to them than it was worth, which had worked to an extent. If there was someone weaker to pick on, they would go for them instead of her, because she was going to stand her ground and fight if necessary.

This was not school, though. She was quite likely not going to be seeing this group ever again, so there was no need to make an impression on them like she had to do in school. Despite logic dictating that the best course of action would be to ignore them and keep moving, Tina started to feel nauseous knowing that in the mind of the troublemakers she and Jayden had been scared off. As though she felt she still had to make an impression, even though this wasn't school any more, by habituation she froze up and stared at them. It was an awkward combination of fear and defiance. Too afraid to move because she would be seen as weak, yet she wanted to go at the same time. She was awfully mixed up.

She knew that what she was doing was not going to help in any way, but her conditioned response to the situation was so strong that she almost couldn't control it.

Osvaldo, for once, wished that she was going to take the passive route, because he didn't want to have to face an electric type. But there was no way he was going to back down either if to came down to having to fight an electric type. Figuring a distraction would be the best way to go, he wandered past casually and tipped over a potted plant, spilling soil in the floor, before giving Tina a craok and slipping out the door.

It was enough to snap Tina out of her trance and she didn't want to be responsible for a clean-up. She decided to swiftly follow Osvaldo out the door after giving the troublemakers one last glare.

"All I'm trying to do is to manipulate the charge," Julian continued. The mudkip looked horrified. "No, no! It won't hurt the Pokemon. It'll probably make it healthier, if anything."

That was also the wrong thing to say. The mudkip shivered. Julian smiled and stroked her head. "You won't have to fight it. I'll make sure of it. All right, this is almost done."

The trap had a long enough range to affect anyone that stepped out of the Pokemon center, and if it worked, it would force the Pokeball out of the trainer's hand and attach it to the nearest magnetic surface. Of course, this would work on any electric-type's Pokeball, but Julian wasn't thinking about that. Julian was one for vengeance.

He didn't know that one of Jayden's Pokeballs would likely zip away and stick to a sign that was easily five meters off the ground.

((Jayden's yellow dialogue. It's a little hard to read with a tan site background. It's possible, though, so you don't have to change it.))

((I use the default theme, Aquos.))

Jayden, feeling his Aipom's body tense, decided that leaving was definitely the best option to take. Unfortunately though, as he took a step to leave the Pokemon Center, one of his Poke Balls began to vibrate. Before the Wanderer had a chance to glance down to see what was going on, a weak shock entered his body from the waist and the vibrating Poke Ball shot off his trainer belt.

The teen immediately recognized which Pokemon had just been taken away from him, and as the Poke Ball smacked against a nearby sign, the youth murmured a name in horror, "Aran!" At that moment, the very Magnemite popped out from its Poke Ball and looked around, obviously confused about what was happening. When the Magnet noticed its trainer however, the Pokemon's eye happily closed and it bobbed right over to Jayden's side.

While Aran returned to Jayden's side, Ai decided to hop down to fetch the stray Poke Ball. Jayden, meanwhile, spun around angrily, his scowl fierce and eyes blazing. Because he didn't know that it was Julian's fault for Aran's Poke Ball flying off his belt, Jayden automatically assumed that it was the youth with the Electabuzz that caused it. "You want a fight?" He inquired, his voice dangerously low and icy. "You have one."

The boy with the Electabuzz, having not expected this, blinked in surprise before he nodded his head in amusement. "Don't cry when I beat you, loser." He replied smoothly as he stood and gestured for his companions to follow with him. "Just know that I don't hold back." With that said, the youth then strode past Jayden to follow Tina outside while his group of followers did the same.

If Julian's trap was still activated, then soon an Electabuzz, Flaffy, Plusle, and an Electrike would appear while their Poke Balls scattered.

Julian watched in horror as the Pokémon of a decent-looking trainer zipped away and stuck to an advertisement. Even worse, the trainer blamed the thugs in the Pokémon center. It wasn't their fault! Julian shivered. "Excuse me, sir?" Julian mumbled, sinking to his knees and tipping his head forward so he might receive the proper punishment. "That wasn't-"

"Don't cry when I beat you, loser."

Julian, still on the ground, clenched his jaw. He was going to be in a lot of trouble. Busy lamenting this, Julian forgot to disable the trap.

Mudkip had a different problem. She was terrified of electric types, and there was one floating dangerously close to her. She gave a soft cry and tried to bury herself in Julian's jacket. Julian, brought back to the present situation, picked up the Pokémon let her rest in his arms. He straightened himself so he was no longer bowed. That's right. He was in another region now. He had to know how to behave.

Julian then stole a glance at the trainer that had left the building before the one whose Pokémon set off the trap. He stood and approached her slowly. "Can you help me break this up?" he whispered. "It's not that trainer's fault." He lowered the volume of his voice even more. "It's mine. My Pokémon is scared. This isn't good."

Julian's stomach rumbled. He hoped the girl didn't notice.

Tina inched her way backwards gradually away from Jayden as the events unfolded. First his Magnemite was launched from his belt and burst out of his pokeball. While Tina found this bizarre, Jayden turned around and blamed the unruly group behind them, assuming them to be responsible for this prank. Whether they were or not, the boastful Electabuzz owner was ready and willing to accept the challenge.

Tina would never admit it to anyone but she was just glad it was Jayden and not her having to issue the challenge. Osvaldo was staying close to Tina for once, indicating that he felt the same.

She heard a voice from behind her. Not expecting this she jumped slightly before turning her head and peering down. There was somebody hiding out of sight holding a Mudkip and he looked rather anxious as he revealed that it was his fault the Magnemite was sent from its ball. He clearly didn't want this to escalate and his Mudkip was frightened.

Tina ran this through her head a couple of times before frowning angrily. She stood back and said loudly and selfishly, "If it's your fault why don't you tell them, huh?"

It was loud enough for everyone else to hear and take notice of.

By the time Tina had yelled at Julian, Jayden and his opponents were ready to start the battle. Of course, due to the yelling, everyone turned to see who the real culprits were only to learn that a kid was the reason for their quarrel. Jayden, having made actual unbelievable discoveries, found he wasn't surprised that a kid was capable of such a trick.

The opponents, however, weren't as quick to believe. Still, unlike Jayden, Julian looked weak and frightened of the odds. At least with the kid, they knew there wouldn't be much resistance- especially because the brat was holding a Mudkip. "Oh? So it's the kid's fault, huh? Well then, we'll just have to pulverize him."

Upon hearing that, Jayden pointed at the leader of the group of thugs and murmured one word, "Aran" before the leader yelped in surprise and pain. As it was, the Magnemite, having understood what its trainer wanted, issued a ThunderShock which struck its target easily. When the others looked to him in shock, Jayden strode over to Tina and Julian with his Magnemite following closely.

"Your battle is with me."

Jayden, upon reaching both Tina and Julian, glanced down at the two trainers. "Have any other Pokemon?" He inquired as he pulled a Poke Ball off his belt; it didn't matter much what they said, for this Pokemon he planned to send out no matter what. Hopefully it would prove useful, for this would be the first time he tried it out.

Around that time, Ai finally pulled the Poke Ball off the sign and returned to his trainer with a relieved grin. Once the ball was back on Jayden's trainer belt, Ai turned his attention to the opposing Pokemon and spun around to use Tail Whip. A rather comedic move in this case, for the Aipom simply waggled his tail side to side which, despite the opponents' willpower, lowered the defenses of all opposing Pokemon.

"You think you're so tough, challenging us all like this?" The leader with the Electabuzz spat after recovering from his shock. "We won't go easy on you- any of you!" He shouted before he gestured to his companions to prepare to battle. Four Electric-types faced down Jayden and the two rookie trainers he was trying to protect- one trainer because he was obligated to, the other because he saw her as an ally.

Standing firmly before his companions and facing the thugs, Jayden fiddled with the Poke Ball at hand.

Mudkip almost fainted at the thought of Julian getting pulverized. Julian stuck his hand in his pocket, his fingers ready to press the button on Mudkip's pokéball in case they needed to run. Julian didn't want to run. He would be leaving behind a stash of valuable electronics. His health and his Pokémon, however, were more important.

Suddenly, a thundershock struck one of the guys that was threatening Julian. It was a distraction. "Mudkip," Julian muttered under his breath. "Water gun on the trap."

"Your battle is with me."

Just as Mudkip was about to destroy the trap, Julian put a finger in front of her mouth. "Wait," he whispered. "This guy might get us out of trouble. He has at least three Pokemon. He has to feed them somehow."

Mudkip gave an enthusiastic nod. They would stay and see what happened. "No," Julian replied. "Just Ohm."

The name came out unexpectedly. It was the name Julian was planning for his first electric-type. It seemed to fit, though, so instead of correcting it, Julian glared at the loud-mouthed girl. "I'll get you into trouble sometime if you keep that up."

((Wait, Jayden's words were directed to the thugs, not Julian. I suppose I should clarify that in my post more.))

Tina leapt away from the group upon seeing the thug go into a sudden violent spasm. It wasn't what she expected. Of course, she didn't know Jayden well enough yet to judge what he might do next, so she wasn't to know he was forgiving enough to step in to this new guy's defence. Tina would most likely have left the trap-setter for the wolves. Still, she was glad to see the boastful electabuzz-user get a taste of his own medicine.

Her amusement at his suffering was short lived. The electabuzz-user was understandably more than displeased when he rose back to his feet a little worse for wear. Despite Jayden making it clear that the quarrel lay with him, the thug was seeing red, and was far too furious to direct his anger discriminatingly. In any other situation Tina would have been frightened, but with the lead of a stronger and more experienced trainer she felt ready to show what she was capable of.

It didn't matter that she had entirely no idea what she was or wasn't capable of. The chance to show herself as being tough and unwilling to back down was within her grasp. Finally, she thought she had the chance to complete the intimidating image and style that she had been trying so hard (but failing) to fit in to. She put on her most determined expression and when asked by Jayden if she had any other pokemon, she replied in a confident, blunt tone, "Osvaldo."

Osvaldo looked up with wide eyes. He was expressionless except for his unusually big staring eyes looking up at his trainer. Osvaldo wasn't one to get frightened easily, but he knew his own weaknesses, and he knew that Tina still had a lot to learn in that department. Against his better judgement, however, he stood forward, clenched his fists, pushed out his chest and put on his best war-face. He wasn't going to let anyone see him run form a challenge.
