Tina's first stop in Brevis Village should have been the Pokemon Centre, but instead it was the laundrette. Although her jeans were dry she couldn't ignore that faint sour smell of her own body fluids and couldn't stand another minute of the shame of having wet herself earlier. Being clean was the only thing that was going to make her feel better. In his state of suspended animation, she figured her injured totodile wouldn't be in any pain inside his pokeball.

Clean and dry, she could finally relax and breathe easy. The little village had a cosy, country feel about it. Not exactly her scene, but it seemed safe and inviting anyway. The pokemon centre wasn't hard to find and when she saw it she made a run for it. Getting Osvaldo healed was her next priority.

The inside of the pokemon centre was sleek and modern, not quite in the style of the rest of the village. It wasn't too busy, to be expected of a small village. The few other pokemon trainers seemed to have already been attended to, so Tina made her way to the front desk and called for the nurse.

“Hello?” Tina called, leaning over the counter with Osvaldo's pokeball in her left hand. “My pokemon needs checked out.”

The nurse approached sleepily. “Oh... sorry. It's been awful...” She paused to cover her yawn with her hand before continuing, “... slow today. How may I help you?”

Tina rolled her eyes at having to repeat herself. “I said my pokemon needs checked out.”

The nurse tried to keep a professional demeanour but seemed slightly taken aback by Tina's rudeness. “Well, um... Why don't you give me his pokeball and we'll put him on the machine?”

Tina handed the pokeball over to the nurse without saying a word. The nurse carried the pokeball over to the regenerator and placed the ball into one of the six slots. There was a flash, much like that of a scanner machine, before a 'ding' signified that the job was done. The nurse took the ball and handed it back to Tina.

“One of Professor Redwood's water types?” She asked while handing Tina the ball as she had noticed the blue droplet symbol painted on the surface of the capsule.

“He gave it to me!” Tina snatched and held it close, paranoid that the nurse was accusing her of stealing it.

“O-of course he did.” The nurse agreed awkwardly, before deciding she's had enough of this girl's attitude and walked away a bit bemused.

Tina kept staring at the nurse until she was out of sight, before turning her attention to her totodile's pokeball. Her intention was simply to make sure the job had been done properly, and that her totodile was ready to battle again. She tossed the pokeball onto the floor to let Osvaldo out. In a flash of red light the little green crocodile appeared. He stood with his back to Tina, looking around the Pokemon Centre and wondering where he was, before turning around and seeing his trainer.

He seemed a lot more relaxed now, but hardly happy to see Tina. He folded his arms and flicked his head to one side to convey his indifference. That's when Tina saw it - he still had a chunk missing from his right brow. It was sealed and scarred, but it hadn't gone away. To Osvaldo's surprise, Tina grabbed him and lifted him up so that he was standing on the counter.

“Hey, nurse!” Tina called angrily.

The nurse walked up to the counter warily bracing herself for some kind of backlash from this rude customer.

“You didn't do it right!” Tina pointed at the scar on Osvaldo's brow. “Look at that!”

The nurse squinted her eyes and closely inspected the scar. “What happened here?”

Osvaldo reached up to feel. The sides of his mouth turned up into a smile. He looked rather proud of his new battle scar.

“Spinarak bite.” Tina responded bluntly.

“Well...” The nurse had a think of the best way to word her answer in such a way that Tina wouldn't get upset. “Sometimes when certain dermal layers are removed, depending on the severity, they can't regenerate exactly as they were before. I'm afraid your totodile can't regenerate the lost tissue, in the same way that you or I would be unable to regenerate a lost hand or leg. He will be left with a scar, I'm sorry.”

Tina glared at the nurse, considering her explanation. “Well do something about it then.”

The nurse frowned at being ordered by this brattish girl. “There's nothing that can be done short of plastic surgery, and we do not provide that service here. Now, if that will be all...?”

Tina grabbed Osvaldo and put him down on the floor before giving the nurse one last annoyed glance, as though it were her fault Osvaldo was left with a scar. Osvaldo, however, couldn't keep his attention off the scar for other reasons. It was a badge of honour, a symbol of the battle-hardened warrior. He almost couldn't wait to find a mirror.

Tina took a seat on the bench to compose her thoughts. Subconsciously at the back of her mind, the bratty tough-guy act took a lot out of her and always left her with a bitter taste in her mouth. For a split second her face flashed with remorse before her facial muscles tightened back into a scowl. She couldn't let anyone see that she was anything but tough and mean, no matter how terrible at it she was. If she were to show anything else she feared that she would only be picked on again.

"Hm?" Julian turned his head to look up at Jayden when he felt the hand on his shoulders. "Yes, sir. It- it was. I promise I won't get you into that kind of trouble again."

Not a trainer? "I'm not a trainer, either. I'm an electrician, though I should probably give that up if it'll make me do stupid things like that. I didn't mean to make you two battle." He glanced nervously at Tina and her hurt Pokemon. "My name is Julian. Julian Dissident, but you don't have to remember it. I was born with Julian, and Dissident was given to me by a friend that I haven't seen for a few years. I'm not that important. If we see each other again, I'll be sure to not do this again. I'll even avoid you. I promise." With that, Julian stood again and gave Jayden and Tina each an awkward nod, though the one for Jayden was noticeably deeper. He then turned and headed for the Pokemon Center. If not stopped, he would heal Ohm and then run away as fast as possible until he couldn't see the other two adolescents any more.

Tina grinned stupidly and her cheeks beamed red when Jayden agreed to let her tag along.

Tina felt somewhat bad for getting angry at Julian earlier, but she didn't want to let it show. Sure, even from Tina's naive, childish viewpoint and of nothing of the world, what Julian had done was still a bit stupid and provocative. But at the same time he seemed to have tormented himself enough over it and the battle resulting from his actions had actually been pretty fun.

"Aww..." Tina whined out loud. "You're going already?" She felt genuinely sad to see him leave. The afternoon she'd had with Jayden and Julian was probably the most fun she'd had in years and possibly the most fun she'd had in her very short, sheltered life. "Don't you have a phone?"

The kid was pretty odd as far as Jayden was concerned, but not much of a troublemaker. What possessed Julian to cause such problems was a mystery to the Wanderer, but he wasn't very interested in figuring the electrician out. Instead Jayden shrugged in response before his Aipom prodded at his cheek to make him actually speak.

Before he could however, Tina called out to the boy in his place. That was perfectly fine with him though; Jayden wasn't the most outgoing character around. If Julian was to pause upon hearing the female trainer's words, Jayden would then add a comment of his own.

"No need to avoid me," He would reply before shrugging, clearly unused to actually inviting others to keep him company. "So long as I'm not in a fight, you can at least say hi." At this, Ai nodded encouragingly as the Aipom patted Jayden's head in approval. Obviously the Pokemon was pleased with the fact that its trainer was actually considering the company of others.

Perhaps there was hope for this ex-gangster after all. Not only was he a decent trainer despite his failings with Pokemon attacks, he was also socializing! Ai was quite hopeful for the youth, and he was especially relieved that his efforts to get Jayden to see people was actually paying off.

"You're going already? Don't you have a phone?"

Julian fought the urge to reveal his neck to the girl. That wasn't the tradition here, and he didn't especially want to be hit. It would take a while, however, for this instinct to be defeated. Besides, the girl had called out to him; she was waiting for him to repay his debt. "I have a phone," he answered. "Right here." He reached into his pocket and revealed the PokeNav.

It was different from a regular PokeNav in a few ways, the most noticeable of them being its bright orange, waterproof coating. Julian opened it and brushed dust off the screen. "I don't really use it." Suddenly, his eyes widened and he stepped backwards. "I can repay you with something else," he pleaded. "It took me a long time to improve this. I- I can make you one if you want. Just let me find another base. Please, don't take it."

He had made a mistake; he had revealed a weakness. Grimacing, he looked up at the girl, trying to meet her eyes. "I- he said he might call, and I'm still waiting."

He paused long enough for the non-trainer, whose name he had already forgotten, to respond: "No need to avoid me. So long as I'm not in a fight, you can at least say hi."

Julian gave an enthusiastic nod, bobbing his head up and down until it made him dizzy. "I'll try," he replied before he realized he would need the person's name and decided on "sir." He paused again. "Do you get into fights that often?" the boy asked before he realized that it wasn't his place to ask such a question. "I'm sorry," he offered. "I shouldn't ask. Well, I- I should at least explain myself. You see, where I come from, those trainers- they would be dead in a day. I was stupid. Impatient. That's how I respond. It's why they tried to get rid of me." He gave what he hoped was a convincing smile. "I'm still learning. So tell me what I can do to repay you and then I'll leave you alone. Just, please. Not the PokeNav. And I'd rather you take that or even me than Ohm."

The mudkip shuddered in Julian's arms, though it was from paralysis and not the thought of Julian sacrificing himself for her. To try and prove this, she nuzzled his chest a little, but twitched with the remaining electricity. Instinctively, her body curled until her hind legs were tucked between her front legs, and her front legs beneath her head. Julian stroked her forehead with his finger. "Before we talk about that, though, our Pokemon are hurt. You can do what you want with me, but we owe it to them to..."

He didn't finish the sentence. His words had gone the way of Jayden's name. Julian shrugged and took a step toward the Pokemon Center. They're not bad people, his intuition whispered. Those rules don't exist here. That's what your friend told you, right?

Julian didn't dare listen.

When Julian revealed his PokeNav, Tina squinted her eyes and tilted her head. She vaguely recognised the device. It was a pokemon trainer's tool, not just a phone, but a portable computer capable of running multiple apps, such as maps, and some models also served a s a radio tuned into stations relevant to the interests of pokemon trainers. Being just a rookie Tina had no idea what kind of model Julian's orange PokeNav was, but she made herself appear interested anyway even if she was clueless. She didn't want to seem boring in front of everyone.

But then Julian took Tina by surprise. He suddenly pleaded for her not to take it from him, assuring her that he could make another one for her. Tina's eyes widened before her eyebrows crumpled in confusion. For the way she had worded her request, it surprised her that Julian assumed she wanted to take his PokeNav. Anyone else would have understood her as simply wanting to exchange numbers. There was certainly more to Julian than met the eye. When he talked about his difficulties adjusting to his current environment compared with the previous one it went right over Tina's head. Mid-way through suggesting that they all heal their pokemon he suddenly paused. She was left with more questions than answers but couldn't figure out how to even try to formulate them.

“Um...” Tina tilted her head with an expression of discomfort, putting her thoughts to the side for a moment. “I just wanted to swap numbers, that's all. You know, to stay in touch?” Julian's behaviour seemed a bit strange to her and she wondered if she needed to be a bit more explicit so that he didn't get the wrong end of the stick. “Like, we could just talk and stuff, or maybe arrange to meet up?”

Tina never was very good with people in general and her anxiety sometimes ran away with itself. She imagined that either they found her clingy and just plain annoying right off the bat or they found her strange, confusing and dorky. That was the last impression she ever wanted to put across, but she saw it in everyone she encountered - even during times where it wasn't there to be seen. Her stomach tightened a little. She worried that maybe she wasn't being very cool and that was why she was being picked up wrong.

Jayden found he was just as confused as Tina, though there was a trickle of recognition when he peered down at the boy. Julian was just like his younger brother, he realized, and suddenly the Wanderer felt like he had to explain a few things. Through experience, his baby brother would always find trouble and be punished for it, be it physically or materially.

Even Julian's question about if he gets into fights a lot reminded him of his family he left behind. "You gave us something entertaining to do," He announced, though he was looking away a bit due to his embarrassment at trying to comfort a child. "And I only get in fights when I find something offending." At that, he glanced down at his tired Aipom and frowned a bit. Now that he thought about it, his initial reason for disliking that Electabuzz trainer was because he was offended about a Skitty's defeat.

Shaking his head at the thought, Jayden then turned to head into the Pokemon Center before he paused. If he remembered correctly, then those punks would be inside having their Pokemon healed. Although he was reluctant to enter the healing facility, he steeled his resolve and convinced himself that they wouldn't bother him.

"The kid's right," He announced as he motioned for the others to follow. "You can exchange numbers and all that while our Pokemon heal." With that said, he moved toward the door and waited for it to side open before he moved a bit to the side. Like this, there would be room for his companions to enter before him.

Ack! I'm sorry; I didn't realize you had posted.

“I just wanted to swap numbers, that's all. You know, to stay in touch?”

Julian froze. "You wanted to- you just wanted my number?" What did I tell you? his intuition admonished. He smiled. "Sure. It- it should be on the device somewhere. I've never given it out before," he finished, his speech slowing at the last two words. No wonder his friend had never called. He didn't know how to reach Julian. Julian wilted at the thought. They were separated forever. "But, yes. Let's- let's heal our Pokemon first."

Julian dragged himself through the entrance to the Pokemon Center. Nervous that they would take his disappointment the wrong way, he added, "Thanks. You two are pretty cool. I've never battled before. Maybe I'll get better at it. Maybe I'll stop getting into trouble. Maybe I'll do something good with my life."

The thought satisfied him; he walked up to the counter without even noticing the trainers that the group had just defeated. The day was turning out well. Maybe he'd even get something to eat before it was over.

I believe this is a point each to Osvaldo, Ohm, Aran, Abban and Ai.

(Also, Yuki, Jayden has 7 party members at the moment?)

((Sandie is more like a house cat, right? So she probably won't be participating in any battles and such. She's pretty much just a companion. I'll edit the signature to make that clear.))
