The Dragonite touched down rather roughly at the base of Mt. Stella and Kitty nearly went tumbling out of the basket with all eight Eevee, but they managed to stay unharmed and clambered out one by one. Tryce, the smallest kit, was in her arms and Archer was clinging onto her head, still frightened from his first flight. The others seemed fine, though, and were all climbing over each other in their desire to be the closest to their father and his trainer.

"Mt. Stella," she said quietly, looking up to the peak. She couldn't even see it, especially not today - it was covered by horrible grey clouds. "This is going to be horrible. I hope it doesn't rain." But, of course, as soon as she said that she noticed darker spots beginning to form on the rocks by her feet. "Dammit."

She nodded up to a cave that was a few feet up the rock face. "It'll take us a few minutes to climb up to there and we can decide what to do when we get to safety, ok?" She frowned at all of her Eevee kits. "This is going to be very difficult, though. Is everyone ready?"

They ignored her, instead following Rocky as he padded up to sniff at the rocks. There were enough footholds that she was confident about her and her companion, but to get all seven of his children up as well would be the challenge.

There was a long silence. Kitty looked from Sandie to the boy who had probably saved her and Tryce's life and whom she hadn't even thanked, and then back to Sandie. The Eevee was seriously thinking, and Kitty would never know about what. Her heart was still beating in her mouth. She felt as though she was sitting, guilty, in the headmaster's office waiting for her punishment.

Sandie walked over to Jayden finally, and sniffed especially around the spot where Ari had spent most of her time, then sniffed at the boy himself. After a moment, she gave a peculiar head movement that seemed to say, 'Come on, then,' as if she were awaiting something. Perhaps the flower.

With a twitch of confusion, Kitty moved to scoop Tryce up from the floor. The kit was shaking, and Kitty thought at first that it was from fear, but she recognised the expression on his face: triumph. The baby was just like his father. She couldn't help but smile, and gently kissed the top of his head. There would be more battles to come.

"Um," Kitty said finally to the boy, "thank you for helping me earlier." It sounded stupid when she said it out loud, as though everything was all about her and he hadn't been protecting himself as well, but there were people in Aerei who would have fled and left her to defend herself, so it wasn't an entirely null statement. "Your pokemon seem to really like you," she added, curiously, as it was a problem she had been having recently. The kits loved her, but would they continue to at the return of their mother?

When Sandie approached him, Jayden felt his body lower into a squat so he could get a better look at the Pokemon. The Eevee was certainly dirty, astoundingly dirty actually, but she seemed to be the sort of Pokemon that was proud of herself no matter how rough the situation or appearance. After a moment of watching the Pokemon with obvious fascination, Sandie looked up at him and gestured a bit with her head.

Jayden, at first, didn't understand what the Evolution Pokemon wanted, but then Ai patted the boy's head to get his attention. Watching the Aipom for a moment as it waved its arms to form a somewhat deformed flower, Jayden blinked in surprise. So the Pokemon did want the flower, then? "Ah, this way then; there's a few different colored ones, so you can choose which you like."

This said, the eighteen-year-old heaved himself back into a standing position and motioned for the Eevee to take the lead; he made sure to point out the tent near the lone tree. The small patch of flowers would be found on the other side of the tent, for that was where Ai spent most of his time while Jayden was trying pitch the tent.

As he waited for the Pokemon to head over to his tent, Ai chose then to leap off his shoulders and land a little ways away from Sandie. He would follow and explain the different colors and different scents. Baby blue, hot pink, red orange, something called magenta; sweet, something that reminded him of tangy, one foul, and so on. While the Pokemon listed off the flowers, Jayden slowly turned his attention to Kitty.

A word of thanks and possibly a compliment; Jayden knew how to respond to the gratitude, but the compliment was beyond him. "No problem," He replied awkwardly as he attempted to shift his usual frown into a smile, and then failed. "Wouldn't have been right to leave you to face that Pokemon on your own." In a pause, the boy tried to think of what to say about the compliment.

"That's quite the kit you have there," The Wanderer noted as he recalled how the Pokemon was so eager to battle. "He'll be an amazing fighter when he grows up." It was a lame switch of topics, definitely, but it was better than talking about his relationship with his Pokemon. As far as he knew, his team could have loved him only because he was the guy that had their Poke Balls. How would they react if the ball was taken from him and they were told to fight him?

He didn't want to admit it, but he hoped the Pokemon would still side with him. After everything he went through with most of them, he found he was as attached to them as they seemed to be of him. It would be a major let down to lose them... Oh; could that have been the reason for the compliment?

"The kit must love you a lot since it didn't run off to follow its mother."

To her horror, Kitty immediately felt tears pricking at her eyes at the words of the boy. Tryce had struggled so desperately to leave her arms when the chance had come to battle, but now his mother was there, a few feet away, and the kit hadn't made a move to free himself from her. She swallowed quickly and dismissed the emotions. She would think about it later. Right now she had to figure out what to do.

Typical Sandie, she couldn't help but think as the Eevee ignored the situation entirely in favour of finding something pretty. Kitty couldn't help but remember the first time they had met, when the female had turned down Rocky's advances... until he had presented her with that very ribbon. It looked like whatever she had experienced had hardened her, but not to the point where she had forgotten to care about her appearance.

Sandie sniffed at the flowers, jerking her head back in surprise at the awful smell of some of them, but her ears twitching in interest at several others. The colours didn't seem to be that important to her, but she gripped one in her teeth, finally. The one that smelt the sweetest. It happened to be the rich magenta. Sandie turned to the Aipom and indicated through clenched teeth and flower that she wished to be spruced up, desperately.

It might have been because he's met a fair number of women in his time, but suddenly the Wanderer felt like he did something wrong. Still, he knew he had a point when he commented on the baby Eevee's actions. It was happy to battle, yet completely indifferent about seeing it mother. Did it even know that Sandie was its mother, not this trainer standing before him?

Of course, none of this was his business, and the male did his best to think of something other than the kit to talk about. Before he could stop himself, he suddenly started an inquiry about the so-called hard journey Kitty was about to go on. "This journey you're going on..." His voice trailed off there; he didn't even know where he was going with that. "Uh."

Genius; he was truly a smooth talker. Shrugging his arms in defeat, the boy gave up and just let his mouth run as he looked over to see if the Pokemon were returning yet. "It's going to be up this mountain, right? How are you going to keep all the Eevee warm? It gets pretty cold up here." For all he knew, he could have been wrong about the temperature of Mt. Stella.

This was only his first time up here, or that's what he believed. Honestly, the guy didn't really keep track of all the places he's visited, the sights that he witnessed. All that mattered to him was keeping on the move. While Jayden felt lame about what he barely managed to come up with, Ai nodded to Sandie.

So it was the magenta flower? A good choice in Ai's opinion, but that might have been because he favored sweets. Careful to remove Sandie's ribbon, the Aipom threw it around his shoulders like a scarf and gingerly took hold of the chosen flower. Once the flower was in his possession, he slipped the flower between Sandie's ear and head. After fixing the angle of the flower, Ai nodded in satisfaction and gestured toward the two trainers.

With the flower in place, they could return to the humans and see what the trainers were up to.

Kitty watched Sandie's bizarre actions in confused silence. Why was the Eevee doing something as mundane as choosing a flower to attach to her ear when her babies were nearby? A strange thought struck her: she must have been able to sense the closeness of Rocky and her other offspring; was she attempting to spruce herself up just a little so as to not frighten her family when they reunited?

But Kitty didn't want to think of the Eevee in such a reasonable light just yet. She wanted to be angry with her just for a little while longer, and she wanted to be able to cling to the kit in her arms and feel like the most important thing in his life for just a little while longer, too.

When Jayden spoke, Kitty almost jumped. "Oh, um," she said, "that's a point." She felt a lump rising in her throat, the idea that she didn't know what was best for the tiny creatures, after all. "Well they normally walk with Freya - um, my Rapidash - and she's always kept them warm. But we're not going to go all the way to the top, just to one of the flatter peaks. I think that one." She squinted and pointed to a barely noticeable surface on the mountain. "So we'll be alright." She watched Sandie for a moment longer, the Eevee ignoring her. "She seems to have taken a liking to you already," she said glumly. "Much more than she ever liked me, anyway."

If Jayden could appear more amazed, then he probably would have. In all his time adventuring, he never encountered a Rapidash, which was actually kind of embarrassing since probably had multiple chances to see one. "A Rapidash... wow." He murmured as he followed Kitty's finger to peer up at the mountain. Unfortunately he couldn't see it, he was terrible at distinguishing shapes at times, but the young man nodded anyway.

"So what about your own warmth?" That could have been phrased better, but at this point in time, Jayden pretty much gave up trying to think his words through. As long as the girl before him understood what he meant, then it was fine. It was at that moment that he realized he didn't even know the trainer's name, and he felt his mouth open to start introductions and then promptly close as Kitty chose then to speak.

The Eevee liked him?

Turning his head to peer first at Kitty, then at Sandie, Jayden felt a thoughtful scowl form. "Like me?" The Wanderer repeated dumbly as his gaze returned to Kitty. "Not like you?" He added, clearly shocked about such an idea being possible. "Why would a Pokemon like some guy that can't even smile?" It was a genuine, confused question on Jayden's part, and if Kitty asked, he would explain that he inherited his mother's frown. If he recalled correctly, then he believed he was informed by his father about how he was born with a scowl that perfectly mirrored his mother's when she gave birth to him.

"My own warmth?" Kitty repeated, brow twitching in confusion. The question had never really entered her mind. She had a coat and an enormous walking horse-slash-campfire. She simply shrugged the question off.

The idea occurred to her as well that they had not exchanged introductions. "I'm Kitty, by the way," she said, holding her head up higher than normal in order to hide her inherent sheepishness at this whole situation. "That's Sandie." She gestured almost dismissively to the plump and dirty female Eevee, who almost shot her a look but seemed to decide against it and turned back to the boy and his Aipom. Kitty stared at her for a while. Why was she being punished? Why the silent treatment? Was this the thanks she got for looking after seven baby Eevee in her absence? Seven!

Kitty swallowed. Her mouth had suddenly become very dry. Before she knew what she was doing, she moved back to the edge of the ledge on which they stood and looked down. Rocky was there, and his kits, but the large Eevee was busily creating obvious dents in the rock using his glowing tail to chip away at the already eroding rock. He would make it up there with all of the babies within the hour without her help.

She took a deep breath, and turned coldly back to the female. "You've been within ten feet of your baby for a while now, and you haven't made a move to say hello to him or anything. Why is that?" But of course Sandie couldn't answer in a way that Kitty would understand. Instead the Eevee turned to regard her ex owner with cold darting eyes. "Do you even care that your family is down there?" A low rumbling noise came from the back of the Eevee's throat. "You're used to it, aren't you? Having litters and abandoning them. It doesn't matter to you."

Sandie's tail began to thrash left and right, but the two females stared each other out. Tryce gently fell asleep in Kitty's arms, beautifully oblivious. Sandie looked away first, tail still flicking in anger. If only they could actually have a conversation. "You know what? You're a bad mother anyway. Rejecting your own baby just because he was smaller. He would've died without me, and for what? You were never cut out for motherhood. You're only good for your genes." The words were spilling out of her mouth, a torrent of needless hatred for a small pokemon.

She looked up at Jayden. "Take her. Please. Could you? Get her away before the others make it up here and see her and I have to explain it to them. Please." Her heart was hammering so hard she thought she might throw it up.

Jayden was frozen solid in shock and uncertainty; he heard of females having cat-fights, but to witness one between a female trainer and female Pokemon wasn't something he was prepared for. It was especially bad when Kitty suddenly turned to him and requested that he take Sandie. Was that even a human's choice? Due to his time with the only two people in the world he cared about, he always thought that a Pokemon found its trainer.

"Does..." He trailed off as he caught himself asking such a sensitive question to the wrong person. Taking a moment to inhale slowly, Jayden then let out a calmer breath and turned to the Eevee. "Do you want to go with me?" For some reason the Wanderer was nervous about this; never before had he thought he would have the chance to care for an Eevee, and a female Eevee at that.

If Sandie decided she wanted his company, then the Eevee would be the first or second female Pokemon on his team. Jayden wasn't sure whether his Skitty was male or female since he thought it would be rude to ask. "Oh, and I'm Jayden." He added, first informing Sandie, then glancing up at Kitty to let her know that he was replying to her introducing herself. "This is Ai."

At that, the Aipom nodded absently; it appeared the Pokemon was thinking deeply about something.

Sandie pulled back her lips so her tiny teeth glinted, and she glared threateningly into the distance, at nothing in particular. She was thinking, and Kitty would never know what about. She was thinking about how angry she was, at herself for being an absent mother yet again, at herself for not caring enough about her children, but such a thing happens when you're used as a surrogate mother for your entire life.

She deeply disliked the way she felt about Kitty. The human female was too...too competitive with other females. They both needed to be Rocky's favourite, and they both needed the love of the kits. But Sandie could back down. She knew when she had lost, and when she was better off gone.

And there was something about this boy that she just liked. He had pinpointed her greatest need immediately. Kitty was all aggression, all competing, all the time. The boy had asked her if she had wanted a flower to put on her ear.

Her decision was quick, so that if she changed her mind it would be too late. If her presence caused pain, she would leave. She didn't want to be around Kitty. She was angry, and she had been through too much, and the girl wanted it more.

With a defeated snap of her jaws, Sandie flicked her tail, turned, and moved to sit next to Jayden, where she glared at Kitty.

"Typical," the trainer spat.

She would never know.

It came as a surprise that the Eevee actually chose him, but then he felt he somewhat understood why. Females were harsh on each other, almost as violent as gangs, and not easily forgiving of one another. If anything, Jayden was sure that Sandie chose him because the Eevee was not about to forgive Kitty anytime soon.

Still, a rose of pleasure blossomed within him when he was accepted. "Welcome to the family, Sandie." The Wanderer murmured as he attempted another smile and barely managed it. Now that the decision was made, Jayden looked to Kitty and felt the frown return to his features. "I'll do my best to look after her," He promised as his Aipom smiled happily about the turn of events; at least Ai would always be able to react appropriately for him.

"I guess we'll get going then...?" He trailed off as he glanced away to think about the half tent that he and Ai worked to set up. It would have to be taken down and returned to his backpack before they left the area. This would only be a minor inconvenience though, and Jayden wouldn't mind as long as he was able to satisfy the Eevee and trainer by finding somewhere else for his team to settle.

At least the rain decided to take a break for the time being.

For the second time in minutes, Kitty found herself having to fight back tears; an irregular occurrence for her. The kits must really mean a lot to her, she realised, and she knew that it was probably for the best that Sandie left. The rift between them would be destructive for nobody but the babies, and they really were better off with her.

"Thank you," she said to Jayden with complete sincerity, as if the idea of gifting somebody a valuable breeding Eevee could truly be a burden. "You're really helping me out."

Sandie watched her, and after a moment, the hardness faded from her eyes, the tension lifted from her body, and she turned to follow her new trainer, eager to see what new challenges would be facing her...and when her next bath would be coming.

"Good luck," Kitty said, to all of them.

((This is going to be fun.))

Because he was somewhat used to helping others out by now, Jayden felt more confident about what he was doing. "My pleasure, really; good luck with your journey, Kitty." With this said, the Wanderer then walked away, heading straight for his half tent. It would only take a moment to disassemble it and pack it away, and once it was done, Jayden glanced down at the Eevee. "Shall we find a lake?"

Sandie sniffed in response; at least Jayden understood that she was ready for a bath. After everything she went through, she deserved some relaxation. "Now, where did you see this lake, Ai?" At that, Sandie glanced up at her new trainer and his Aipom. It looked to her like the Pokemon were the trainers, not Jayden himself.

Ai, upon hearing the question, was quick to point out a direction and nod in affirmative with Jayden asked if he was sure. Since it was agreed that they were heading to a lake with Ai leading, Jayden started in the direction that was pointed out. Much to his pleasure and surprise, Sandie was still following.
