((Because, you know, there can be lakes on the mountain.)) "You sure you want to do this?" Kuzumi inquired as he shook his head and sent water flying from his sopping wet hair. As it was, he had chosen to take a dip in a lake nearby while his entire team chose to relax. It was a great day to swim, and the cold really cleared the boy's mind. "I mean, you hate getting wet." At that, the boy laughed before he swiftly ducked underwater to avoid a good-sized rock that had been aimed at his head with frightening precision. Sometimes the boy regretted training his best friend, but the regret only ever lasted for a few seconds. Honestly, it was just hilarious to see the normally apathetic guy act so worked up about something so trivial. When Kuzumi finally resurfaced, Yuki huffed. "We should have done this ages ago, but only now is your Gyarados even able to Dive." Before Kuzumi could raise a word of protest, Yuki held up a hand to silence the martial artist and continued. "It will at least build my connection to Adrastos." Now that this was said, the Umbran let his hand drop back to his side. He knew that the Wanderer would not argue with that. And he was right, for Kuzumi made swift progress back to the lakeside and made his way back to Yuki. Upon doing so, his Medicham, Lail, started to offer him his clothes before the boy waved it off in dismissal. I'm going back in a few minutes. Lail nodded then before returning the clothes on the tree branch and settling back down beside Hubert to bask in the sun and meditate. "You'll have to strip down then," This time Kuzumi held up a hand to silence his older companion before the Umbran could even open his mouth. "We'll be in the water for a while. Your technology can only last so long." Both knew there was no arguing with that, but still Yuki instinctively gripped his right arm as if his life depended on it. At that, Kuzumi smiled reassuringly, though he dared not touch his friend. "It isn't like I haven't seen it many times before." A shaky breath escaped the elder as he eventually nodded in acceptance. Slowly Yuki removed his jacket, then his shirt, and so on until he was only wearing his necklace and the bandages that wrapped around his torso and right arm. After gentle coaxes, Kuzumi convinced the Umbran to remove his bandages as well, though the boy didn't dare bring up the necklace. Finally the medical tape was removed from Yuki's body and revealed the seventeen-year-old's scars, all of which proved to be quite fascinating to his entire team. This was the first time his Pokemon had seen his back, and the scar upon it was breathtaking. Forcing himself to ignore the obvious stares of his Pokemon, Yuki tenderly followed Kuzumi into the water and drew a sharp breath at the cold. "Let's start with Rasmus." Yuki could only nod in assent before he forced himself to drop underwater for a brief moment, and then rocket back up. His breath stolen and his heart suddenly struggling to provide, the Umbran stumbled backward and would have fallen if not for his Gallade catching and then assisting him. It took a bit before he finally regained his breath, and the youth was quick to murmur his gratitude for the help before his attention flickered to Kuzumi. Already the boy was standing proudly on Rasmus's back, acting as if he was without a worry and far from embarrassed. As far as Yuki was concerned though, his friend really didn't have much to be embarrassed about, for the scars Kuzumi bore were hardly as drastic as his own. Two cuts, one on his chest and one parallel to it on his back; that was all Kuzumi had to deal with. As for Yuki, he had an arm that looked as if it was perpetually on fire, for the scars appeared to be a growing wave of flames. On occasion, whether Yuki stared a while at it or not, it almost looked as if the scar was shifting to create a new pattern, just like actual fire would. It was at his shoulder that the fire reached its peak and was greeted with the curling of vines. These vine-like scars stemmed from Yuki's back which was largely occupied by a few scars. If one was to stare long enough, then it would almost look like there was a heart at the center of his back with a halo-like ring slung over the right half. All around the heart, even wrapping around it, were vine-like scars that slithered around his back, the thorns on each vine varied by only a single digit and even spaced apart consistently. "Ready to give it a try?" Kuzumi shouted as his Gyarados snaked through the water to greet Yuki and Adrastos. "You and I are going to stay mostly submerged in the water though." After revealing this, the youth hauled his friend onto the serpent beside him and grinned as Yuki wrapped an arm around the dorsal fin. "Start us off easy, Rasmus! Adrastos is going to go for a swim with you!" And with that declared, Rasmus patiently circled Adrastos as the Gallade frowned a bit. Honestly, the Blade Pokemon only ever swam within its tank and hasn't been in water since then. Yuki and Kuzumi realized this around the same time and both glanced at one another. It seemed this was actually going to take a while. Because of this, Yuki reluctantly released Rasmus's fin and began his freezing cold swim back to shore. Once there, the Gallade automatically wrapped its arms around the trembling Umbran to warm him up. "Sw-swim with me." The youth ordered through chattering teeth. After a moment of silent disagreement, Adrastos was finally tackled into the water by Surya. |

Down went Adrastos, Surya, and Yuki in a splash. Only the Growlithe sprang up from the water however, for the Puppy was literally hurtled out of the lake because Adrastos kicked at it. With the Puppy now out of the water and howling pitifully in complaint, both Gallade and trainer broke the surface of water to gasp for air. As it happened, the pair had momentarily struggled to the surface before Yuki managed to free his arms and drag Adrastos up with him. The Blade Pokemon, in his moment of surprise, forgot to release his trainer. "Easy now," Yuki murmured as he relaxed Adrastos enough to get the Pokemon to remove its arms from around him. With this finally done, the youth then began the tedious process of teaching his Pokemon how to swim. Thankfully it didn't take long to convince Adrastos that swimming in the lake required similar motions used to swim in a tank. Eventually the Gallade was swimming as well as its trainer, if not better now that Yuki was struggling to move his numb body. Before the Umbran's body could finally give up on fighting the cold, Kuzumi suddenly appeared and helped Yuki back to shore. Immediately Surya, Chase, and Adrastos approached to help Yuki recover from the cold. Chase was quick to check on his trainer's condition, even attempting to transfer a Recover to the Umbran in case it would help any. Surya, meanwhile, snuggled against the trainer to help warm him up, even blowing soft flames so provide instant heat. While they did this, Adrastos fetched their trainer's clothing, shooed Surya off the boy, and then wrapped Yuki in the clothing. There was a sigh of relief as the clothing immediately reacted to his body temperature and adjusted accordingly. "Adrastos can swim now." Yuki announced as he shut his eyes and allowed his body to enjoy the warmth. "Teach him to Surf for me?" This was, surprisingly, an actual question instead of an order, and so everyone was caught off guard. If Yuki was willing to ask rather than command, then the teen was definitely not well."Yeah, yeah no worries." Kuzumi replied as he shook his head in wonder. The cold must have really done a number on him. With this thought in mind, the martial artist stretched his body contently, for it seemed the cold didn't bother him at all. "Come on, Adrastos! Let's Surf!" Lail, keep an eye on Yuki. Lail, upon hearing this instruction, turned to nod at his trainer while the youth strode eagerly back to the lake. Once Kuzumi was submerged again, the Medicham rose to his feet, politely informed Hubert of his reason to move away, and then strolled over to Yuki's side to watch over the youth. Much to the Fighting-Psychic type's surprise, Hubert huffed, followed, and then settled down behind the Medicham to resume its post as something to lean against. Suddenly happy, Lail patted Hubert's steel leg affectionately before leaning against it and closing his eyes to meditate. Under meditation, the Pokemon would be aware enough to keep an eye on Yuki and everything else without having to actually look around. Chase, after satisfying himself with the Recover attempts, soon joined Lail in the meditation. Before the Alakazam could consider sitting beside the Medicham, Hubert permitted the Psi Pokemon to settle atop its flat head, for the Metagross was aware that Chase was the sort to float when meditating anyway. Chase, touched by the offer, accepted and began to meditate atop Hubert, and then immediately floated off as he succumbed to his meditation. Yuki frowned as he felt himself surrounded by all the Pokemon. Surya was resting by his head, Aiko and Cailan snuggled against his arm; Elina warily surveying her surroundings, Sylvn curled up at her fee, andn his other side were the three Psychic-types that weren't forced to go for a swim. As comfortable as he was with his company, the teen felt that just lying there wasn't good enough. He was supposed to be teaching his Gallade how to make proper use of its Sharpedo and Swampert genetics. He was supposed to be teaching it how to Surf and Dive. With a soft moan, the Umbran hauled himself into a sitting position, though he was careful to adjust the position of the Pokemon that were leaning against him. Immediately after his sitting up, Lail's eyes fluttered open and the Pokemon reached out to place a hand on his shoulder. "I'm fine." He assured Lail while gesturing to the lake. As Pokemon and Umbran watched, Kuzumi taught Adrastos various strokes in swimming. Now that the Gallade was finally comfortable in the water, everything started to come easily to it and so Kuzumi decided to teach Adrastos his personal favorite swimming method. First, however, was drilling the Gallade to lengthen its strokes. With one arm held straight before him, Adrastos began to practice lengthening his strokes and keeping his body in position. After every stroke, he switched arms so that his other arm would work on its stroke until, finally, Kuzumi decided they could move on. Soon after the decision, Adrastos found himself using the tips of his fingers to pull himself even further as he rolled his body accordingly to keep his hands under water. Much to Kuzumi's delight, Adrastos was learning quickly and ready to move on to the next drill. Eventually the drills were over and the two took off in a race to catch up with Rasmus. At first it surprised Adrastos just how fast the Gyarados was in water, but after Kuzumi ordered for a break and then explained that Rasmus's genetics seemed to have given the serpent an amazing advantage when in water, Adrastos understood. It was similar to how he was even able to glide through the water because of his mutation. |

Eventually both Adrastos and Kuzumi caught up to the Gyarados, though it was only because the Atrocious Pokemon decided to roll onto its back and bask in the warmth of the sun. "Get up you lazy bum!" Kuzumi laughed heartily as he patted the Gyarados's stomach and then started rubbing it affectionately. Without realizing it, he caused the serpent to happily slap its tail into the water and summon a wave. Luckily Yuki and Lail saw it coming. The Umbran was quick to order all three Psychic-types beside him to use Psychic. When the Metagross and Alakazam glanced over to see why Yuki wanted this of them, they noticed the surging wave and reacted instinctively with Psychic. With all three Pokemon using Psychic, the wave swiftly downsized until it was low enough to simply touch the lakeside, and then retreat back into the lake. "You're trying to get me wet, aren't you?" Yuki demanded as he slowly pulled himself onto his feet and let his clothes slide off. Although he wasn't noticeably cold, the sudden lack of heat produced by his clothes definitely made him shudder anyway. Now that his Pokemon could swim, he was determined to assist in teaching it how to Surf and Dive, even if the cold killed him. Without a word, the Umbran strode purposefully to the water and dunked his entire body in. This time he was ready for the cold, and so this time he wasn't as affected as he was last time. Because he was prepared, he only pulled his head out of the water once before using Kuzumi's swimming method to swiftly reach the others. Once he arrived, Kuzumi hauled him onto Rasmus's back now that the serpent was flipped right-side-up. "Going to help teach Adrastos Surf?" When Yuki nodded slowly, clearly starting to feel the chill already, Kuzumi wrapped a surprisingly warm arm around him and laughed. "Then lets get started!" And with that said, the youth jumped straight into his explanation of how to use Surf. Because he remembered the lessons from the time he was lent an HM Surf, the boy was able to recite, word for word, what Adrastos needed to do. As the Gallade listened, his gaze drifted down to Rasmus and watched as the Pokemon easily glided through the water. It was almost elegant, what with the wet golden scales shimmering beautifully. With a sigh, the Pokemon wondered what the Surf attack looked like by this magnificent serpent. "Rasmus, buddy, use Surf to show our friend what it looks like." When the Gallade spun around in surprise to stare at the Wanderer, he noticed the pleasant grin on the boy's features and felt a frown touch his own lips. Was it possible that the youth could hear his thoughts? "I'm a psychic trainer, Adrastos; I can hear your thoughts." Upon the Gallade's startled expression, Kuzumi burst out laughing while Yuki managed a chuckle. |

"If your thoughts are directed towards him or his Pokemon, then he'll hear them." Yuki explained as he removed his companion's arm from around him so he could move closer to Rasmus's crest. "Watch, Adrastos, as Rasmus performs for you." This seemed to snap the Gallade out of its shock and sent the Pokemon eagerly to his side. With the Pokemon on one side and Kuzumi on the other, he found himself fascinated with how he could feel the waters reacting to Rasmus's will. Soon the water was lifting, the Gyarados astride the wave, and quickly lowered so as not to cause too large of a crash against the lakeside. From ashore, Pokemon from both teams let out cheers of praise which made the Atrocious Pokemon blush as it flashed an intimidating grin. If it wasn't for the fact these Pokemon were used to Rasmus, then they would have been intimidated. "The trick is to work with the water," Kuzumi announced as he patted Adrastos confidently on the back. "If you have to, use some of your psychic abilities to bend the water to your will." Now that Adrastos felt he could do, for that was similar to how he learned Earthquake. Using his psychic power to force the earth to rip apart wasn't like forcing water to flow the way he wanted it to, but the method was the same: use Psychic. Theoretically it should have been that simple, but soon Adrastos found that the actual practice was difficult. As it was, the Blade Pokemon found it was incredibly difficult to take hold of the ever flowing water. Despite how hard he tried, he simply couldn't grasp the water well enough to do anything with it. Because of this, the Gallade scowled fiercely in concentration as he continued with his efforts. It wasn't a big mystery why the Pokemon was scowling, either. While Adrastos worked on trying to grasp the water, Kuzumi was exercising Yuki's swimming abilities and checking to see if the Umbran had lost any muscle since they last trained. It seemed Yuki's ability to swim had actually improved since they last met, which was actually pretty surprising since the young scientist admitted not daring to swim since the lesson. Once it was agreed that Yuki was still a capable swimmer, Kuzumi set to checking his muscles. There was no surprise when Kuzumi found his friend's legs to still be well toned, though the Wanderer couldn't suppress his grin when he checked Yuki's arms. "You've lost muscle up here!" The boy laughed which earned him a splash of water to the face. "It's true!" He spluttered as water entered his mouth and tried to choke him. "Whatever; what do I do about it?" Yuki demanded as he felt his friend check his back, neck, and then chest. "My neck?" |

"You perform those exercises I showed you years ago." Kuzumi absently replied as he patted his friend's stomach and nodded in approval. "And I checked your neck to make sure you weren't tense. You're really relaxed for someone used to wearing clothes all day." Suddenly the martial artist was laughing again as Yuki indignantly splashed at him. In retaliation to this, the youth started to splash back until, quite quickly, the two ended up roughhousing on Rasmus's back. Unfortunately for them, the Pokemon's golden scales were slippery and Adrastos was finding it hard to concentrate with the two shouting and laughing. Eventually Adrastos's frustration escalated enough that, with an impatient gesture of a bladed arm, the Pokemon sent a small wave crashing over the unsuspecting pair. It was a shock to Adrastos that a wave actually washed away the two trainers, though the trainers didn't seem to be as surprised when they finally surfaced. Rather, upon their heads breaking the water surface, Kuzumi shouted "Air!" while Yuki rapidly shook his head to dispel the water from his drooping hair. If anything, the two were surprised at how they failed to see the Surf attack coming. Worried about the two trainers, Adrastos was quick to gather both humans in a psychic glow and then Teleport the pair back onto Rasmus. Once the pair was sitting near the same dorsal fin from earlier, the Gallade leaped from fin to fin until he reached the trainers and dropped onto one knee to beg for forgiveness. Because he was aware that Kuzumi would understand his thoughts, the Pokemon made it a point to make his intention clear. "It's fine, Adrastos," Yuki replied which surprised the Blade Pokemon; after a moment it recalled how the youth was quite observant and understood the body language of those he was familiar to. "It seems you managed to use Surf." This said, the Umbran nodded approvingly at the Pokemon which made it smile a bit. Although it wasn't unusual for the trainer to praise the team, it still felt like an incredible accomplishment. "Now!" Kuzumi announced as he clapped his hands together and grinned. "Can you do it again?" A challenging expectation, but one that everyone knew would be accepted by the Gallade. Just as predicted, the mutant Blade Pokemon stood to its full height and turned its attention to the water. Concentrating fiercely, the Gallade attempted to will the water into another wave. For some reason however, nothing happened. Tiltiing his head slightly, the Pokemon tried to recall what he did to produce the first wave. That frustration from earlier came back in a rush, though still nothing happened. Determined not to give up, Adrastos looked closer at the memory. When he finally gave up trying to grab the water, he moved his arm as if he was splashing the two trainers and the water followed his movement. He was trying too hard to give the water a purpose; he was fighting the flow of the water. It was his stumbling upon this realization that produced an incredible wave from right beneath the snoozing Gyarados. Suddenly the group was lifted high into the air as the Gallade's Surf grew to a decent height. Unfortunately there was no riding this wave for the Atrocious Pokemon the group was gathered on was still fast asleep. In its sleep, the serpent snorted a little and attempted to roll over, right off the wave. Because of this, a duet of shouts pierced the quiet for a moment before the wave crashed over them. Rasmus, being the thick-headed creature he was, managed to sleep through the screaming and the pressure of the Surf attack shoving him underwater. Unfortunately the others weren't so blissfully unaware of what happened, and so they struggled to return to the surface. There was an incredible moment of panic before a single, clear thought made itself known. Teleport! |

Suddenly Adrastos, Kuzumi, and Yuki were back on shore, surrounded by Pokemon from both teams, and coughing uncontrollably in their attempts to gasp for air. After a while, the three finally calmed down enough to actually breathe. Kuzumi was the first to say something, and his words came as a surprise to everyone but Yuki. "You used Surf!" That seemed to break everyone's stupor as the Pokemon surrounded Adrastos to praise the Gallade for a job well done. Despite the scare from earlier, the group was genuinely proud of the Blade Pokemon successfully using Surf. With a little more practice, there was a chance that Yuki would have him Surfing the ocean. This, of course, was taken as a joke for everyone knew the Umbran usually avoided getting anything beyond his ankles wet. "Rest now, Adrastos, or continue practicing." Yuki ordered as he gathered his clothes and quickly pulled it all on; once again his body was dangerously cold. "We will test your control again later before we move on to the next lesson: Dive." In response to his words, the Gallade bowed respectfully from the waist and then moved to sit at the edge of the water. There, the Pokemon would practice creating smaller waves until, at last, it felt comfortable with using Surf. Now that Adrastos had learned the attack, Yuki chose then to settle back on the ground and lay down. Closing his eyes, the Umbran found his mind start to lazily drift from idea to random idea. A game-like device that could take pictures, store data, be used to video chat, and find hidden items; a combination of PokeDex qualities, phone qualities, camera qualities, and ItemFinder qualities. Perhaps a device that could take using TMs and HMs to a whole new level: one that provided a video of a Pokemon learning the desired attack instead of just listening to a set of instructions. Or maybe something meant to cause problems when trying to learn the moves. A device that somehow creates the move and uses the trainer as a punching bag. Suddenly the youth felt a bubble of laughter rise up through his throat as he compared such a situation to when he nearly drowned earlier. Perhaps using such a machine to learn Surf would actually flood a town; now that would be a problem. When he found he couldn't stop himself from imagining a flooded town, Yuki opened his eyes and turned his head a bit to look toward one side. As he suspected, Kuzumi was lying beside him in all his unabashed glory. Deciding it would be easier to think about the youth to get the boy's attention, Yuki suddenly found his eyes straying to Wanderer's chest and fixating on the scar. Before he could even think about looking away, Kuzumi shifted so that he laid on his side, faced Yuki, and provided a better view of the scar. "What's wrong?" Kuzumi inquired, a gently smile apparent, his eyes sparkling brilliantly due to the angle of the sunlight. It was always slightly unnerving when Kuzumi automatically reacted to Yuki's thoughts; it seemed the Umbran rarely knew how to react. Still, since Kuzumi allowed him better sight of the scar, Yuki found no reason to waste it. "You shouldn't have to carry these scars." Yuki heard himself say, though he didn't know, exactly, what he meant. Still, a wave of guilt crashed over him as he said it and, for a moment, his look of apathy broke down to reveal an ancient sadness. It felt like he was to blame for the youth's scars, but the Umbran couldn't think of why. "It's my fault, isn't it?" A troubled look passed through Kuzumi's eyes as the boy regarded his friend. When Yuki wasn't apathetic, when the teen actually felt the rawness of his own emotions, he always looked terribly tired to Kuzumi. Of course, this made sense the Umbran rarely slept, but even that didn't warrant how tired Yuki's very spirit seemed to be. "What do you remember from... from that time?" Kuzumi's voice cracked when he turned the question into something vague, but Yuki understood what his friend meant. That time when he should have been... "Starting the Organization... most of our time from when we met at Petalburg Forest... most everything I've done since I woke up in Oak's home..." Yuki frowned deeply as he forced himself to think about this. Every time he tried to think about certain things of his past, he ended up with a terrible migraine. It was as if his memory was being intentionally blocked, but he didn't know by what. "What about the day of... you know." Here, Yuki's migraine escalated into something truly terrible and painful. As much as he wanted to remember what happened, he found that he just couldn't. It hurt too much to think about it, and the pain was rather unbearable. Still, he had one or two pieces of the memory that he desperately clung onto. "We fought... for your... your freedom." The words were spoken softly and slightly stumbled upon, but Yuki was determined to let them be heard. "A desperate struggle..." Suddenly the migraine disappeared as he gave up on the memory and focused his clouded eyes on Kuzumi. When he could finally see the grim expression on his friend's face, a touch of disappointment crept into his voice. "Did we lose?" If they lost, then at least he would understand why he couldn't remember; he would have left it at the idea of him repressing the memory of such a terrible loss. Because of this assumption, Kuzumi's sudden laughter caught him so off-guard that he actually wore a startled expression. "We won, actually." The martial artist gasped as he tried to remember how to breathe. "It's just, well, the victory came at a price." He knew he didn't have to say anything else for his friend to understand what he meant. As he judged by the grave expression Yuki wore, he assumed the older boy caught his meaning. "How is this possible?" |

That, it seemed, Kuzumi had no answer. Instead, he returned to the original subject and smiled sadly. "It's not your fault that I wear these scars; I've had them since I was born." Not a complete truth, the youth knew, but it might as well have been since Yuki was none the wiser. He could never blame the Umbran for those scars when the Umbran's memory of everything important was completely wiped. Shaking his head, auburn hair flying wildly about, the martial artist finally grinned at his friend and motioned for his friend to get up. "Let's get back to training; Adrastos still needs to learn how to Dive!" With that said, the youth abruptly spun around to face the unsuspecting Gallade and silently crept toward the Pokemon. If Adrastos hadn't been so focused on making a wave grow then shrink, move left then right, then the Pokemon would have been saved. As it turned out, Adrastos's focus was too great, and so Kuzumi's sudden, "Got ya!" couple with a tackle greatly shocked the Pokemon. Suddenly the Surf attack was broken and both Pokemon and human were underwater. It was clear that Adrastos was the one desperately flailing about while Kuzumi started laughing uncontrollably despite being underwater. When the Gallade finally found its common sense, both Pokemon and Wanderer suddenly returned to shore via another Teleport. While the two gasped for air and choked on the water they drank in, Yuki shook his head in mild amusement. The Umbran was already back to his typical uncaring self, and he appeared ready to take another dip in the lake. "When you two are done, Rasmus and I will be waiting." So saying, the very Gyarados abruptly sprang up from the water, splashed everyone on shore, and let out a great big yawn. It seemed the Atrocious Pokemon had enjoyed a pleasant nap underwater. As he climbed onto the sea serpent, he heard Kuzumi and Adrastos scramble up to join him on the Pokemon's back. "All right!" Kuzumi announced as he pumped a fist into the air. "Let's get Diving!" And with that unfortunate announcement, Rasmus let out a roar of consent and abruptly dove into the water. Yuki's cursing in a long dead language was swiftly cut off when he was forced to take a deep breath. And so the fun began. Underwater, it was absolutely beautiful; thanks to Adrastos's using Protect to create a barrier around both trainers, Kuzumi and Yuki were able to breathe while still underwater. With the Gallade's help, the two trainers were also able to hang onto the speeding Gyarados as well. Adrastos, force Rasmus into the air! The plea wasn't desperate, surprisingly, and actually proved to be an obligatory request. As it was, both trainers were engrossed with how most schools of fish didn't seem all that concerned about Rasmus swimming by. because of this, the Gyarados's passengers were given quite the show as they watched Goldeens, Magikarps, and various other Pokemon pass by. Much to the surprise of both trainers, there was a shiny Pokemon or two that swam by and a few other Pokemon that were obviously toyed with by Umbrans. If anything was more surprising than the shinies and the mutant Pokemon, then it was the very fact both trainers could actually see it all. For the water to be so clear was astounding to the pair; a long time had passed since they last swam in a crystal clear lake such as this. From where they were, they were able to see deep into the water, though naturally the water started to darken until it was pitch black. Judging by that, the lake must have been incredibly deep. Unfortunately the pair couldn't linger on this thought for very long though, for Adrastos's Protect was visibly starting to crumble away. It was Yuki who noticed it first, for the Umbran was quite sensitive to the cold. When he noticed the water, his thoughts immediately jumped to Kuzumi and, in obvious response to this, the martial artist glanced over to see what he wanted. That was when the Wanderer realized what was happening, and that was what encouraged the youth to remind Adrastos to use Teleport. After a moment, the two humans were forced to hold their breaths; thankfully the moment was short, for suddenly the group abruptly appeared above water. Unfortunately they ended up a few feet higher than the actual water surface, so a large splash followed their return to fresh air. "We live! For the love of all that is useful, we are a live!" The boy laughed hysterically as he pitched himself off the Gyarados's back and landed in the water. After a few seconds the boy returned to the surface, contently floating on his back. "Do you understand how Dive works now, Adrastos?" To be honest, it came as quite the surprise when Rasmus actually dove underwater. The last thing the pair was expecting was how calm the Atrocious Pokemon acted when it swam among all the native Water-types. The first time they tried Dive, Rasmus completely forgot what the point of it was and just kept gliding through the water. The first time; it was during that first adventure underwater that Kuzumi scolded Rasmus harshly. That might have been the reason why the sea serpent was so reluctant to act overly excited, though Kuzumi hoped he was just thinking too hard about it. He didn't care how logical that sounded; his Gyarados was a total softy, and that was not logical. Edited by Key2dawn, Jun 27 2012, 11:32 AM.

Adrastos nodded slowly, clearly still stunned by the beauty that was hidden underwater. If learning to Dive would allow him more time to witness such magnificence, then he would happily master the move within the day. He felt that he now understood why Yuki wanted him to learn to Surf; Yuki wanted him to explore below the surface of water to witness underwater beauty. Something that Yuki needed coaxing to do by Kuzumi, it seemed. "You shouldn't think that way," Kuzumi whispered to the Gallade which made the Pokemon jump slightly. It still wasn't used to Kuzumi's ability; an ability that it didn't quite understand. "Although he doesn't seem to remember it, he actually grew up near water." The boy lowered his voice further until, without Adrastos's realizing it, Kuzumi was speaking to him in a conspiratorial tone. "He probably avoids it now because he doesn't understand why he's so drawn towards it." It was about this time that Yuki splashed both Adrastos and Kuzumi to gain their attention. "Are you two done sharing secrets?" He quietly inquired, clearly not as bothered as a normal person would have been. It was obvious that anything Kuzumi could say about the Umbran wouldn't be taken as an insult, whether or not Yuki heard the boy's words. "Adrastos, are you ready?" Here, the Gallade silently nodded. There was a fire of determination in his eyes now; he wanted to learn to Dive so he could experience the world that was once part of Yuki's life. Although he didn't understand it, he felt almost desperate to know more about this youth that, more often than not, seemed to be completely devoid of emotion. It might have just been curiosity, but the Blade Pokemon had a suspicion that he, like everyone else on the team, was being greatly influenced by the Umbran. But that was a matter to think about another time, for he was supposed to be practicing his Diving. As it turned out, swimming underwater was as easy as swimming on the surface, possibly easier. It might have been because he had Sharpedo and Swampert DNA mixed within him, but whatever the case, it came easily. He didn't even have a problem with breathing underwater, though he couldn't explain that. As far as he knew, he didn't have gills. No matter; he was enjoying himself as he dove underwater and began to explore life underwater. Adrastos couldn't resist spending most of his time underwater. So much time, in fact, that Kuzumi and Yuki steeled themselves for a dive of their own and rode Rasmus underwater. When they finally caught the Gallade's attention, Yuki gestured for the Pokemon to return to the surface. After several splashes of the head, one splash of most of a serpent's body, Adrastos glided through the water to see what the two trainers wanted of him. "So you can swim, but can you battle using Surf and Dive?" Just like that, a battle between Adrastos and Rasmus was arranged. Both Pokemon were to successfully use Surf and Dive four times before using anything else. Although it sounded ridiculous and easy, it turned out to be more difficult than the Gallade bargained for. Rasmus, naturally, was without complaint and was quite viscous with his attempts to perform the attacks. In the beginning, Rasmus decided to take the initiative and start things off with a Surf attack. Because the Pokemon not only learned this via HM, but also had more practice with it, it was obviously a success. This proved to be a problem for Adrastos, however, because his first instinct was to Teleport out of the way. It was then that the Gallade realized just how reliant he was on his psychic abilities, and it was around that moment that he found himself caught in a devastating wave. Surprisingly however, he didn't flounder in a panic. It might have been the instincts of his Sharpedo side, but he found that he could handle the pressure. Above water, the roar of the crashing wave was deafening and disorienting, but underwater, the only difficulty was righting himself after spinning around so much. This difficulty, thankfully, was solved quickly thanks to his Sharpedo instinct to always remain right-side-up. Taking a deep, calming breath underwater and finding that he really could breathe, Adrastos focused his thoughts on the matter at hand. Rasmus already had a head start with Surf. That being the case, Adrastos decided to take this opportunity to try his hand at Dive; he was already underwater anyway. Swimming as quickly as he could, the Gallade easily reached his opponent and leaped out of the water. It was when he pulled back his arm to perform a slashing gesture that he realized something vital: he didn't know how to form Dive into an attack. If he completed that gesture, then it would have been a penalty on his part because it would have just been the actual Slash attack. This was insanely difficult! Just as this thought crossed his mind, Rasmus loosely curled around Adrastos and then Dived underwater. Splashing down with the thought of failure lingering in his mind, the Blade Pokemon felt a small pebble of irritation settle in his stomach. This was truly a learning experience. So now Rasmus was giving Dive a go; if the Gyarados was going to try that, then Adrastos would move on to Surf. This made up in his mind, the Pokemon paused for a moment to look around. Without thinking much on it, the Gallade ducked underwater and nearly Teleported in surprise when he saw the overgrown Gyarados charging at him underwater. Instead, Adrastos threw up both hands and watched, nearly stunned, as Rasmus was carried above the lake's surface by a giant wave. When he realized that he caused the abrupt Surf, the pebble from before seemed to dissolve as he felt proud of his accomplishment. That pride, however, proved to be a distraction and caused his Surf to abruptly end. In one mighty crash, the Atrocious Pokemon dropped back into the water with a splash that almost sounded like an explosion. Luckily Adrastos realized his mistake in time to race away from where he knew the Gyarados would land. Once the deed was done, Adrastos broke the watery surface and looked around again. From the corner of an eye, he saw Yuki nod approvingly. It must not have looked like an accident, and for that, the Blade Pokemon was relieved. His relief was short-lived however, for Rasmus's head popped out from the water's surface and let out a terrifying roar. Instead of a wave of trepidation washing over him, Adrastos felt oddly excited, though he quickly deduced that it was actually Rasmus's enjoyment of this challenge that he felt. Even in battle, he was still picking up on the feelings of others. If Rasmus hadn't chosen then to summon a giant Surf of a wave, then Adrastos probably would have lingered too long on such an infuriating habit. With his reverie broken, Adrastos took one look at the Surfing Gyarados and knew that there was no way he could avoid that. Too large, and he still didn't know how to successfully attack with Dive. So, with only one other option, the Gallade threw back his head and felt his body be lifted by a surge of water. As he turned his attention to the approaching sea serpent, Adrastos nearly cursed as he realized how minuscule his own wave turned out to be. Even worse than that, however, was the obvious difference of how much focus it took to maintain such waves. Rasmus looked as if it was pretty much second nature to will waves into existence. Adrastos had to maintain one emotion so he wouldn't accidentally release his hold. But no matter how frustrated Adrastos was, he absolutely refused to back down from the challenge. It his focusing on this determination that allowed him to retain his Surf, but he wasn't about to stop with the comparatively smaller wave. Just before the two waves could crash into one another, Adrastos leaped into the larger wave and forced himself to swim up it. He would not fail this time; there was no room for mistakes, for Rasmus would be impossible to dodge and miss. Mind racing to figure out Dive, his thoughts flashed from how he preferred to use his blades to attack to how he had to focus on the water to create a wave out of it. As he continued to think on this, an insane idea popped into mind which brought a desperate grimace to his features. Without anytime to really think the idea through, Adrastos decided to just try it out and see if it worked. The worst outcome would be a failure, and that wouldn't be the first time he failed to use Dive properly. Now more determined to attempt it, Adrastos's eyes flashed ocean blue as he focused on the water around him. As he pulled an arm back, a subtle spiral of water followed his arm's movement, and suddenly the Gallade felt more confidence in the idea. Underwater, all he would need to do is hack and slash with his arms like usual. Outside of water was a different matter though; outside, he would take the water with him and have it spiral around his arms indefinitely. Almost giddy with confidence, Adrastos finally reached his target and, as he burst out of the water, allowed his arm to drag against the serpent's golden scales. Because this was his first attempt at the attack and Rasmus was part Water-type, his Dive hardly fazed the Gyarados. Honestly, the Atrocious Pokemon didn't realize that the tickle it felt was actually Adrastos's attack. After the Gallade flipped in midair and dived back into the water, Rasmus flicked his caudal fin in amusement. So the Blade Pokemon managed to figure out how to use Dive as an attack; it might have been his spending too much time with Kuzumi, but the Atrocious Pokemon saw this as an actual challenge to his abilities. Rasmus would be the first to successfully use Surf and Dive four times each. So far, Rasmus had two successful Surfs and no successful Dives while Adrastos had the same Surfs and one Dive. With a bellow that could have been interpreted as "challenge accepted," the Gyarados summoned a third Surf attack and turned the wave to face Adrastos. At this point, the Gallade was quite confident in itself and appeared unconcerned about his attack. As the Blade Pokemon concentrated on bringing a wave to life, Rasmus smiled and sank into his own wave. Adrastos, having been so focused, didn't notice this. When the Gallade finally did look up to realize that he was gone, it was too late for the Gallade. Rasmus Dived into his own Surf, allowing the wave to take its own course, and leaped into Adrastos's. It was a second too late for Adrastos to realize what the Gyarados was up to, and so the Pokemon was outraged when Rasmus finally crashed into him. He should have seen that coming, surely! There would be no penalty for the Atrocious Pokemon mimicking his own actions, though he did find it curious that the Gyarados's Dive was a lot stronger than his own. It must have been the fact that Rasmus was a 30 foot sea serpent while he only stood a couple inches shorter than his own trainer. With a painful splash, Adrastos dropped into the water; Rasmus, meanwhile, deftly slipped back underwater in a perfect nosedive. "Rasmus is really getting into it." Kuzumi commented as he stretched his arms, and then threw one around Yuki's shoulders. As the Umbran flicked his arm away, Kuzumi laughed. "Looks like they're even in counting; how do you think this will end?" From where the two trainers were sitting, there would be no way for either of them to know what the Pokemon were doing. "Good chance that it'll be Rasmus," Yuki replied as he patted his Growlithe on its head. As the Umbran allowed his gaze to sweep his surroundings, he explained his reasoning. "Rasmus has the advantage when it comes to natural defenses." There was a moment of pause as both trainers thought about the advantages the combatants had. As it stood, there was a slimmer chance for Adrastos to win, though both were sure the Pokemon was undaunted by the idea. In a case like this, the Gallade certainly live up to its name. Unfortunately for the Blade Pokemon, he wouldn't know just how well he was living up to the name, especially now that he was practically locked in combat with the Gyarados. Rasmus had allowed him little to no time to prepare for battle. While the Gyarados rushed at him with another Dive attack, Adrastos floundered a bit until he regained his bearings. He was just in time, too, because the serpent nearly rammed into him a second time. Still, that counted as a successful attack in the mind of either Pokemon, which put Rasmus in the lead. Determined to counter this, Adrastos threw up an arm and sent Rasmus hurtling out of the water, once again forced out by a Surf attack. That was Adrastos's fourth successful Surf, and so now he was left with only Dive to finish off. Just as he started to race back to the surface, he felt a strong pressure follow his actions until, abruptly, he was literally carried up past the surface. It seemed Rasmus picked up on that usage of Surf, which also meant Rasmus was in the lead. Only three more Dives for Adrastos and two for Rasmus. By the time the two Pokemon were above the surface, it was revealed that the sun had started its descent, though neither actually noticed. Rather, it was Kuzumi who noted this as he pointed it out over the treetops. "We should let them rest for today and continue tomorrow." The martial artist suggested as he admired the sunset. As much as he wanted the battle to finish before the moon rose, he knew that the combatants wouldn't allow the other to succeed with another Dive. "Tomorrow, huh?" Yuki replied as he frowned at the sunset; both knew why he was skeptical of the battle ever finishing. The moment that sun disappeared beyond the horizon, the trainers would become victims to the desire to resume traveling. While it was more of a precautionary habit for Kuzumi, Yuki once admitted that it felt like instinct to keep moving. "You sure?" At that, Kuzumi let out a weak laugh as he shook his head in response. When it was agreed that the battle would have to wait a long while, both trainers reluctantly rose to their feet and pulled on their clothes. It was getting chilly now that the sun was setting anyway. "That's enough guys! We're done for the day!" Unfortunately only Rasmus heard that, for Adrastos was back underwater in preparation to use Dive again. When the Gyarados turned its head to regard the martial artist, Adrastos struck it underwater. This time there was quite a bit of power behind the attack, and this time the serpent felt more than just a tickle. Just as the Gallade resurfaced, Rasmus smashed his caudal fin against it and sent the Pokemon flying toward Kuzumi and Yuki. Before Adrastos could slam into the two trainers, Chase caught him with a quick Psychic and then carefully placed him on his feet. After a brief word of gratitude, the Blade Pokemon cast Rasmus a reproachful glare. "We ended the battle before you hit him with Dive," Yuki informed the Pokemon as he shook his head in amusement. "Because of that, he was surprised and simply reacted." It took a minute for Adrastos to accept this, but the Pokemon was clearly still indignant about the match's sudden end and, along with it, Rasmus's using Aqua Tail on him. Yuki, deciding to give the Gallade some time, then turned his attention to his other Pokemon and returned each of them into their Poke Balls. Kuzumi, meanwhile, did the same with his own Pokemon, though he left Aeneas out since the Umbreon was a predator of the night anyway. Now that each trainer was left with Pokemon, the humans turned to each other and nodded. Until next time. When that would be was a mystery to both, but the humans were confident that there would, in fact, be a next time. With this agreed upon, the two split up. Shortly after that, the moon took a peek from beyond a horizon. |
