Kurai walked into the park, a big smile on his face as he cradled his precious little egg in his arms. He had made the gauze wrapped around its crack into a bow to make 'eggy' look pretty. Kurai had vowed to take tremendous care of this little egg until it hatched, and he wasn't going to break this vow even if his life was at stake.

Nox flew overhead, rolling her eyes at Kurai and the egg. She wasn't jealous, per se, she liked the egg and felt oddly motherly towards it. It was just the fact that Kurai was so wrapped up in it that he wasn't paying attention to Spike's training. But she trusted Kurai, he was probably doing the right thing. She wished it was night time, however, because the hot sun beating down on her only made her hot. She landed on a park bench nearby and preened her feathers.

Kurai walked over to Nox and stroked her feathers, shifting 'eggy' to one arm. "Such a pretty girl." he cooed. Spike scurried out of his favorite place in Kurai's bag and crawled up to the top of his head, squeaking. Kurai chuckled and reached up to pet him with one finger. That little guy was so adorably small. Kurai sat down on the park bench and gingerly set the egg on his lap, taking his bookbag off and setting it on the grass beside his feet. Then he looked around at the many people strolling through the park and the little pond in the middle. He smiled and leaned his head back, forgetting that his Joltik was there.

Spike fell onto the grass, landing with a soft squeak. He looked up at Kurai sadly and scurried off to find something fun to do. His eyes lit up as he saw a street lamp, and he climbed up to the top. When he looked longingly at the lightbulb, he realized it wasn't turned on. No electriity for him. My, it had been a while since he'd had any electricity to eat...did Kurai not know he fed off of it? Maybe he should just drain Kurai's phone battery....he scooted back down the pole and looked around, overwhelmed by the big people and pokemon. He squealed in fear and backed up to the street lamp, burrowing himself in the grass and calling for his 'daddy'

Kurai closed his eyes and stroked 'eggy' gently, resting on the park bench without hearing a word from Spike. Nox, however, heard a squeak and glanced around. She didn't see anything, however, and figured it must have been her imagination. She tucked her head under her wing and fell asleep.

The weather was so pleasant today. Scott lay on his back in the grass just listening to the sound of the bird pokemon in the trees and feeling the sun beat on his face. All of his pokemon were out - even Lassie; just because she was weird-looking didn't mean she didn't deserve to enjoy the sunshine, people could point and gasp all they wanted - and playing with each other.

Quell and Elektra were playing the world's most unfair game of Tag ever, as the Rattata would leap and jump to try to get the Combee, and miss, and Quell would just dive and smack into her teammate with ease in return.

Dakota was busy spitting harmless Embers at the people who tried to come too close to Lassie, who was busily drooling some Sludge Bomb.

In his mind, Scott drew out plans to locate a Moonstone. Whatever the Metarina's evolution was, it could hardly be any worse.

In the midst of their game, Quell smacked hard into a strangely coloured Joltik, and as she turned around to voice her apologies, she was stunned. Not only was this another Bug type, something she'd naturally be drawn to as a natural member of a swarm, but it was also oddly-coloured, like her. She stared at the Joltik for a while, blinking, until Elektra sprinted up behind her and somersaulted into her at full pelt, pleased to finally be able to touch the Combee.

Spike cried out, blinking up with terror at the large (well, larger than him) pokemon. He then looked at the oddly colored Combee with interest. "Tik! Joltik!" He decided he could trust him, at lease to get back to his trainer. "Tik Tik, Joltik!" he squeaked, motioning to his trainer asleep on the bench and explaining how he needed to get back.

Kurai mumbled in his sleep, snuggling 'eggy' close to him. Then he spluttered and jerked awake, looking around and startling Nox, who also woke up. He checked to make sure his egg was ok, and then he patted Nox and yawned. "Hmm...looks like I dosed off. You alright Spike?...Spike?" Kurai looked around, trying to find his Joltik. Had he fallen asleep as well?

Kurai checked his backpack and all of his pockets, suspecting that maybe it was eating his phone's battery again, but his Joltik was nowhere to be found. "Spike! Spike!" He looked frantically at Nox, who just sat there with a calm expression, and then he gently set his egg down, motioning for Nox to watch it, and stood up, scanning the park for any sign of his Joltik. "SPIKE!"

Nox hopped down beside the egg and nuzzled up beside it, falling back asleep.

Scott was jerked back to full consciousness at the sound of someone nearby in the park shouting, and his first thought was that his friends were causing some sort of trouble.

Then he realised he didn't have any friends any more, just pokemon.

He swallowed his scorn and twisted his face back into its masking smile, and peered over into the distance to see what was causing the commotion. The first thing that caught his eye was Dakota hissing flames at an elderly lady for calling Lassie an 'abomination', but that wasn't what was causing all that noise. No, it seemed to be coming from Quell and Elektra's end of the park.

He good-humouredly rolled his eyes and started to stroll over, ready to explain that his two pokemon weren't meaning any harm, but on his way over he realised that the word being screamed was 'Spike', nothing that meant anything to him - unless the Gym leader was around, which was doubtful - and it wasn't actually coming from his pokemon.

He reached his Combee and Rattata and shoved his hands in his pockets. "You've made a new friend, huh?" he asked his two pokemon, looking curiously at the Joltik. "You're very pretty, aren't you?"

Kurai suddenly spotted Scott, and, assuming he had something to do with his missing Joltik, hurriedly picked up 'eggy', slung on his backpack, and stormed over, an alarmed Nox flying closely behind. Kurai stormed up to Scott, then looked down to see his little Spike, and glared at the man. "Just what do you think you're doing with my Joltik? Come here, Spike."

Kurai picked up Spike in the palm of his hand and stroked the little guy while shifting his egg to one arm. "I'm so sorry for letting you out of my site, Spike. It'll be ok."

Spike looked up at Kurai, perplexed beyond belief. Did Kurai think this man had kidnapped him? Surely not, for it was Kurai who flung him away. Spike squeaked, and tears flooded his little eyes. "JOLTIIIIIK!" Spike cried, sobbing and burying his fuzzy little face in between Kurai's thumb and index finger.

Alarmed, Kurai continued to pet his Joltik and whisper soft words to him until he calmed down, and Nox just blinked at Scott and his pokemon, daring them to say a word about her seemingly crazed companions. As soon as Spike calmed down, Kurai turned back to Scott, eyes narrowed. "For this, I challenge you to a battle! My Joltik against one of your pokemon!" With a sense of finality, Kurai placed Spike on his shoulder and took off his bookbag, gently laying his egg inside, then putting the bag back on and turning to face Scott. "Choose your pokemon."

((So cute, I squealed. XD))

Scott stood there in appalled confusion as this strange boy accused him of stealing his Joltik. Quell and Elektra stood to either side of him looking equally as confused, watching as he exploded at their trainer and then flung his pokemon at them - the very same one he had accused them of trying to take.

"Oh," Scott said, then his brain caught up and his fists clenched as he felt the familiar surge of adrenaline when it came to battling. Even though he wasn't a trainer any more, there had been a time when people trembled at the thought of having to battle him.

"Yeah, fine," he said, "but I wasn't trying to do anything, I just came up to see my own pokemon." He gestured to the two of them and they looked at him, then back to Kurai. "Quell, squish that bug, go!" His near-translucent Combee buzzed forwards, looked apologetically at Spike, then took what she seemed to think was a Battle Stance, spreading her little wings wide and frowning comically.

"Gust," Scott ordered, and Quell began to whip up a little hurricane.

(;D power to the cute pokemon!)

"Tiiiiiik" Spike squealed, getting picked up out of the air by the vortex of the Gust. Kurai almost laughed at the cuteness of it, that is, until he realized what was happening. Spike spinned around in the air, frantically trying to gain a sense of direction. He looked down at the ground and squealed again, covering his face with furry little arms.

Kurai leaned against a tree, arms crossed as he took in the situation. "Spike! String Shot onto the Combee and then use it to send an electric current through a Thunder Wave attack!" He commanded his little electric bug, eyes trained on the moving black spec. Spike tried to concentrate and zone in on the Combee, so it stopped flailing, aimed, and right as he saw a blur that looked like a Combee, it shot out with its web and tried to pull itself to the blur, sending electric shock waves through the web.

Kurai nodded, a small smile playing on the edge of his lips. "Good job, Spike!" Nox cooed and mimicked Kurai with a smirk, flying up to perch on the tree branch above her companion.

Quell giggled a little, doing a little loop-di-loop around to dance around with the Gust, but as soon as she saw that the Joltik was ready to try to attack back, she righted herself again - it took her a moment to figure out where the ground was - and watched carefully for where the attack was coming from; a difficult task since Spike was moving around so much.

"Quell, dodge the String Shot," Scott said, realising that Kurai intended on sending an electric shock through the string if it attached itself to his Combee.

The little bee pokemon buzzed happily in response, and somersaulted in the air backwards away from the String Shot, avoiding it by a hair.

"Great, ok, now-" Scott found himself about to call a Fire attack out of habit, not being used to training non-Fire types at all, but he caught himself. "Um, uh, Bug Bite!"

The Combee buzzed again, flapping her wings happily, and zoomed quickly towards the Joltik, ready to nip at the little spider pokemon.

Since Spike missed, he found himself falling and flailed in the air, crying out. "Joltii-iiik!" he hick-upped, looking to Kurai for help. Nox almost flew to his aid, but just as she was spreading her wings, Kurai shook his head. "This is a leaning experience, Nox. String Shot now, Spike! Find something to latch onto quick and pull yourself to safety!" Kurai commanded his pokemon.

Spike was still crying, but he frantically searched for something to latch onto while both the ground and the Combee rushed at him. "JOLTIK!" He squealed, shooting at random and feeling it latch onto something, then quickly reeling himself in, narrowly missing the Combee's attack.

After reeling himself in, he soon realized he was looking up at a strange person. As it happened, there was a small girl walking by to watch the battle, and she'd been hit by Spike's attack. Giggling, she picked him up with her hand and petted him. Spike giggled as well. Kurai face-palmed.

"Spike! String Shot a tree and use it to swing yourself at the Combee! Then use Electroweb! Just shoot a web at the pokemon, and send electric currents through it! You can do it Spike!" Kurai called out.

With all of his little might, Spike catapulted himself off of the girl's hand, shot a large string of web at a tree branch, and swung himself at the Combee, shooting a large electrified web right at her face.

Kurai smiled again, relaxing his tensed muscles and winking at the little girl, who ran away in a fit of giggles. Kurai chuckled, shaking his head and moving his eyes back to the battle.

Scott looked on in amusement as the plucky little spider pokemon accidentally utilised a passer-by in order to avoid Quell's attack, and then used a tree and a String Shot to swing back around and launch an attack.

"He's a resourceful little thing, isn't he?" Scott said happily, and then chewed on his lip as he thought of another attack. Combee's movepool was limited to say the least, but Quell was close enough to evolving that it wasn't too irritating. He might need to teach her some attacks after this, because this battle was about to get seriously repetitive.

"Ok, Quell, Sweet Scent," he said after a moment.

The Combee released beautiful smelling spores as she danced around in the sunlight, making her trainer smile, but the attack was perhaps cut a little short as she was encased in a buzzing web and trapped to the ground by its stickiness. She squealed in pain as the web electrocuted her.

"Bug Buzz to get out!" he called. After she'd finished panicking, the Combee buzzed her wings hard and fast, and the resulting shockwaves of sorts broke through the strings, though she was a little shaken and slowed. Hopefully after the Sweet Scent, Spike would be a lot easier to hit which would even the odds considering his size and agility. Seeing the potential of her Bug Buzz attack, Scott ordered another one to fire off as soon as the Electric type got close enough to hit.

Kurai nodded. "He's very smart, but he gets emotional at times. He thinks I'm his 'daddy'." Kurai chuckled, making little air quotes. Nox cooed and nuzzled his hair, making it more haphazard-looking than it already was. He brushed his long violet hair out of his face and stroked Nox's feathers, smiling. "This girl's smart too, and pretty." He winked at her, then turned back to the battle. His eyebrows furrowed as Spike landed on the grass, seemingly a little bit unfocused. Had the Combee used Sweet Scent?

"Spike! Snap out of it! Cover your little, er, ears!" Kurai commanded. "If you have ears..."

Spike was distracted by a pleasantly sweet sound that had enveloped his senses. He smiled, inhaling the sweet, savory scent. "Jol...tiiik..." he sighed. Soon after, however, he was snapped out of his stupor as a painful wave of sound hit him, making him curl up in a ball and cover his little ears. "Joltiiiik!" he squealed. The attack seemed to do more damage than usual because of his tiny size.

Kurai grimaced. "Hurry! Use another electroweb!" He called out. Seeing as the Combee was in relatively short range, a electrically-charged web in the face would have a good chance of hitting.

Spike turned and spewed an electrified web in the Combee's direction, an adorably angry look playing on his little face. "Tik! Joltik!" He squeaked as if accusing the Combee of betraying him. He shook his tiny head, growling; however, it sounded more like purring. Kurai chuckled.

Scott watched, proud of his little Combee for executing such nice attacks. "You're a natural, Quell, see?" he said to her. She buzzed at him, excited at the compliment as her Bug Buzz attack struck her opponent.

Scott thought for a moment as Kurai ordered another Electroweb. His actions were limited; Combee knew only the smallest handful of attacks, and none were particularly useful against a Joltik. He chewed his lip. "Dodge it, Quell, you have the advantage here," he called. His Combee was confused at this. He had meant that she had the advantage of flight, but Quell began to wonder whether she was actually much stronger than the opponent. She was definitely a little bit bigger.

She puffed herself up and attempted to dart away from the electrified web, but it was too large an attack and though she got relatively far away, she still got trapped in it and once again dragged to the ground.

"Ok, another Sweet Scent," Scott said, brow twitching. The battle would be much easier if the Joltik wanted to be as close to Quell as possible. "Then a Bug Buzz as soon as he's close enough to you. Hang in there." Inside the crackling web, Quell huffed and struggled, but released the beautiful scent and waited for Spike to approach so she could use her Bug Buzz on him.

(you're baaack! 8D btw, I took over Sonny's gym thread, but you can take it back if you want. (I do like RPing Mamoswine, though...>.>'))

Kurai nodded as Spike's attack worked; however he face-palmed again when a Sweet Scent wafted over to Spike yet again, making him smile woozily and drift over to the Combee. "Snap out of it, Spike!" Kurai called out, shaking his head. Spike, however, didn't want to cut it out. That was a yummy smell...and it was coming from the Combee!

As Spike neared the Combee, he also saw the electricity pulsing from the web he had shot, and that's what did him in. He leaped at the Combee with large eyes, ready to dive in and take a large bite out of the now very inviting pokemon, but right as he was about to he got blasted back by a loud Bug Buzz, sending Spike sprawling back and whimpering, holding his little head with his front legs.

Kurai grimaced. Any more of those Bug Buzz's and Spike would be down for the count. "Snap out of it already! Realize that yummy bug scents equal big amounts of pain!" Kurai called out to Spike, who just winced and trembled. Kurai's eyes and voice softened. "I'm sorry buddy, but you need to perk up and buckle down with this if you want to win this battle and get the pain-inducing Combee away from you."

Spike's trembling lessened and he looked up at Kurai, blinking. He then straightened up and glared at the Combee, growling again and without Kurai's command shooting lots of icky webs at its face. Kurai laughed out loud. Don't mess with an angry little Joltik. "Ok, Spike! Use Thunder Wave to send an electric shock through the Combee to paralyze it to the ground! Then use Leach Life!"

Spike concentrated hard with his little mind, focusing electric energy and shooting it in crackling waves at the webs and the Combee. Then he would jump at the downed bug pokemon and bite it, leeching out some of its energy.

((Am back now! Feel free to keep it, my dear.))

Scott ordered another Bug Buzz to break through the Electroweb, but this time Quell was a lot more tired and it took two attempts to break free. She hovered up high, waiting for the next order.

"Ok, go for a Gust again," he said.

It was a struggle, but the Combee managed to whip up another Gust attack and send it towards the Joltik just as it shot a Thunder Wave towards her. The electrical impulse struck right through her tiny body and she felt her muscles seizing up as she fell hard to the floor and rolled a couple of times.

Before Scott could say anything, Spike had latched onto her and was sucking out her energy. She was just about down for the count, but the Gust attack still made its way towards the Joltik, whipping up grass and leaves as it went. Quell tried to fly again, but seized up and plopped back onto the floor, pouting.

Kurai smiled and nodded his head. "Great job, Spike! Now adhere yourself to the ground with a string shot and endure the Gust, little buddy! Then use electroweb just one more time, because that seems to be most effective this time around! You can do it, Spike!" He encouraged his little buddy.

Spike's eyes shined and he nodded quickly, rooting himself down with webby-ness right as the Gust whipped around him. It very nearly pulled him from the ground, but he held strong, then as the wind dissipated he shot one more electroweb, hopefully ending the battle then and there. And if it didn't succeed, Spike would unstick himself and scurry over to the Combee, using Fury Cutter.

Kurai smiled proudly at his Joltik, then looked up and stroked Nox's feathers. He was so glad to have such loyal, determined pokemon. Nox lifted her head high and smiled haughtily, and Kurai chuckled. Then he looked over to Scott and smiled good-naturedly
and nodded, then focused back on his little Joltik to see the outcome of this fight.

The poor little Combee was having trouble leaving the floor; her wings didn't seem to want to move quickly enough any more. "It's ok, Quell," Scott said encouragingly. "You can fly. You know how, just keep trying." He was starting to worry now. The Electroweb was flying towards her. It pinned her once again to the ground and she struggled momentarily as the electricity zapped through her.

"No!" Scott found himself shouting. He started to move towards her, then stopped himself, then shook his head and went to her anyway, kneeling and peeling off the web. It shocked him a couple of times but he worked through the pain. He stood, cradling her bleary body in his arms, and looked at Kurai.

"Well, you win," he said, and his smile was back. Dakota hopped over, delicately holding a berry in his mouth, and Scott took it gratefully to feed to the Combee. Soon she was hovering by his shoulder again. "That's a pretty awesome Joltik you have. Sweet and tough. You're raising him really well." He nodded, knowing full well that while a compliment coming from him in Hoenn would have winded a trainer, here it meant next to nothing. He continued to smile anyway.

That's when Quell began to glow a brilliant white, and expand slowly. Scott's mouth fell open.

"Beautiful," he said to himself. Dakota tilted his head, watching his friend in her new form.

Kurai smiled gratefully. "Thank you." he said sincerely, really touched by the compliment. He scooped up Spike and stroked his little fury body, then placed him in his favorite pocked, the one with his cell phone. Right as he did so Spike clamped down on it, making Kurai wince and sigh. At least he could always charge it, unless all of the power was sucked out completely...ah, he'd worry about it later.

He held his egg in one hand and reached out with the other. "Your Combee is very strong too, and beautiful." He nodded. Soon that nod turned into a look of awe as the Combee evolved. "Wow...she's beautiful!" He said. "Congratulations!"

He smiled and whistled for Nox, who flew down and landed beside him. Kurai turned and started to walk away, but turned to wave good bye and smirk. "Maybe we can battle again some day when my Joltik evolves!" With that, he left and went to search for something else interesting to do. Looks like the calm day in the park turned out to be more exciting than he planned. Who knew?
