The Minister of Defence is in charge of planning operations, enlistment, army management, etc. He will coordinate with the Chief of the Defence Staff on all operations. However, the CotDS is in charge of all military personnel while conducting a raid/defense operation. The CotDS is appointed by the Crown on the recommendation by the Prime Minister, while the Defence Secretary is directly appointed by the Prime Minister. In simple terms: In battle: CotDS is in charge Managing, planning, organizing, etc: MoD is in charge Thank you Nicholas Stillwell Prime Minister |

We can do what we always thought was the impossible

Actually I wish to sort out the fact that this is a British themed region, Chief of the Defence Staff is American. Therefore as I have said in my other thread, it is pointless. There is no purpose to it when one is very capable of doing these jobs otherwise it is far too big in government structure. |

Chief of the Defence Staff is not American Mr Franklin. The current Chief of the Defence Staff in the UK is General Sir David Richards (Army) |

The only reason why I never knew that was because it's not widely known unless researched me thinks. My apologies for not knowing this first. But I believe still, the point remains. In this climate and game why need two positions for the same job? It is pointless and unless we have more people then all we're doing is creating unnecessary positions and red tape. |

It is not the same job: The CotDS would serve as the Rank of Field Marshal and is the crowns representative in the military. The MoD is still in charge of the military, but the CotDS is the actual field leader. In the RL US, it is like the SoD gives orders to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs who execute the orders and command the troops, the SoD does not physically command the troops. |

Not widely known? Its there for everyone too see. Richards is on the news every week. The reason for the chief of the defence staff is that it prevents petty politics controlling the military and creates stability. |
