Quite a lot of sci-fi choices here. :-) I don't have a single favorite movie, or anything else for that matter, but just stuff that really sticks in my mind at the moment. Inception is probably my closest right now, and Secret of Kells. |

A good SciFi thriller is the Village of the Damned, the book was The Midwich Cuckoos. For war films, I choose Where Eagles Dare. The original Star Wars (Episode IV) is still the best just like Goldfinger is still considered the best Bond film. BTW, Lucak took the plot of Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress to make the original Star Wars. |

Lucas has ruined Star Wars for me. I watched Hidden Fortress, but I only noticed passing resemblances and he did admit he was "inspired" by Japan. I wish he had kept Luke as a girl though as he'd originally planned. |

Yes he formally acknowledged using sections of Kurosawa's plot and telling the story from the viewpoint of the supporting characters, namely the two 'Droids. He also supported, produced and funded Kurosawa's The Kagemusha. |

That's in my Netflix queue, but I still haven't watched it. The only other one I've gotten around to seeing is Roshomon. |

I really liked Kagemusha and Ran but I find Kurosawa's older films unbearably slow. I gave up on The Seven Samurai about an hour in. |

Shichinin no Samurai is Epic. It ranks with Citizen Kane and other landmark films. The film builds on character development. We see the characters and their motivations a lot clearer for this. If you want a strictly action film, then stick with the Magnificent Seven. It is truly a wonderful film and tribute to Shichinin no Samurai, but it lacks the depth of the original. |

You guys like Kurosawa too? Man, you guys are awesome! You should also check out Harakiri. Skye Rocket, I'm kind of the opposite: I love Kurosawa's earlier films, but I have to admit that I started falling asleep two thirds through Ran. I don't really blame you much though. I've found that you have to be in a certain setting and mood to really be able to appreciate a Kurosawa film. My personal favorite film of his is High and Low, one of his few non-samurai films. And Demoness, I don't even consider the Star Wars prequels as canon anymore. In my mind, Lucas made what he interprets the prequels should be. |

Kurosawa is one of the giants of film. I rank him along with Griffith, Lang, Ford, Wells, Fellini and the other pillars of the idiom. If you want some fun stuff to watch, pick any of Jacques Tati's films. He was known as the modern Chaplin. Very visual comedy. |

My list might be a bit outdated, I don't watch that much TV/movies. So I have to say my favorites are all the Tom Clancy Movies, Serenity, and Avatar. |
