TSCC hit its stride too late, but it did propose some interesting questions and have a unique setting involving time travel. The problem I had with Dollhouse was that it seemed to be more a vehicle for Eliza Dusku, etc., to show off their acting skills. While I found that interesting, it doesn't carry a show and I found myself more and more interested in Victor and other background characters rather than Echo. By the second season I couldn't stand Echo, though it was through no fault of the actress. The concept was unique, but I don't think I liked the execution. |

I agree. Josh Weiden likes plots to twist much like Patrick McGoohan did with the original The Prisoner. |

Whedon also likes to kill people for no reason.

Part of the execution of the show was the extremely slow development of character within the dolls during their tabula rasa state. Yes, it was probably primarily about demonstrating a very impressive range of roles, but the subtle changes in the characters, particularly the dolls, from episode to episode was what really made the show for me. |

Yes. I found Echo more interesting than her real personality. Same thing with Victor and Sierra, though I did find myself wondering about their real selves, and about the lady in charge. I didn't like Echo's real personality though. |

From my understanding, that's what they were going for. |

I didn't finish the show because other things came up, but did they ever restore Echo's real personality? And isn't that like killing Echo since she's self-aware? |

No, Caronline and Echo sort of merge late second season, though Echo remains the more dominant element of the mixture. |

Go finish it up, the last few episodes are where Joss brings it all together and it gets frakkin' strange. Post-apocolytic Dolls and cyberpunked up revolutionaries... as a Guy I have to admit, Eliza in the Dominatrix gear was attention grabbing. I laughed when she snapped the whip on one of the handlers. Echo ends up being everybody she ever was. She & Alpha are the only ones to develop that specific trick. Makes things interesting once it becomes clear. Alan was great... now if he could just stay alive! |
