Meh, I tried it for a while. It wasn't what I thought it was, I was looking for a more in depth NS basically. I wish there was a game where you could do something like what we do here, except with a little more emphasis on the numbers and more realism. Vaguely like EU III but with more politics and options and obviously in the modern age. I'll give a basic run down of some of the things you can do in EU III for those who are interested. I'm playing yet another Byzantium game. I nodded it so the game goes until 1900, and I added a few nations that it works better for the time period. Byzantium has wiped out the Ottomans and owns most of all of northern turkey to Georgia, as well as some of macedon. My plan is to expand all along the southern coast and down to the holy land. After that i will take the rest of Greece from the Venetians by force. they seem to think the own it ever since they spearheaded fourth crusade, even going so far as vassalizing Achea and Epirus. We'll see about that. Once ive thoroughly exacted my revenge on the Doge I will knock some sense into those Hungarian bastards in the Balkans, ceding most of it to my ally Serbia, and creating Croatia. Im almost in a PU with Serbia once the fat pig they call a king kicks the bucket, and then they're done. I'll do the same with Croatia, or maybe I'll vassalize them, either way. By now I have a pretty sizeable empire. Here's where I will consolidate all my gains and finish the infrastructure I've started since the start. Mostly military buildings at first so i have sufficient manpower. I want to build two Centres of Trade in Athens and Constantinople, which ill send all my merchants to. With the money generated there I should after a while have more than enough money. If not, I'll build another CoT in another city, probably Jerusalem. I'll eventually monopolize the CoTs and make a big load of cash. Then I'll begin turning the cogs of war again. My first target is Italy. The political climate in Italy will depict where I strike. If Aragon or Castille has already inherited Naples then I'll pay my Venetian friends another visit, this time however, I won't be satisfied until the Doge is hanging from the walls of Venice. From there I'll either move south into the hills of Tuscany, eventually taking the true prize. Rome. Once Rome is mine the I will be in control of the Catholics Capitol. I'll kick the pope into whatever heathenistic hell is waiting for him, and begin showing the Roman citizens the true faith that is Orthodoxy. I will have done what Emperor Justinian had failed to do, reunite Rome with it's children. If southern Italy is under an Iberian banner then I may leave it be for a while. Waiting for the opportune time to strike. In the meantime I'll begin advancing into Mesopotamia and Persia, perhaps as far as the Indus. Once I'm that far the game could go anywhere I want it to. Byzantium will be so large that it will be nigh indestructible. A new Pax Romanus will be almost at hand. This is just one of many paths I could have taken. Im not even going to bother colonizing, and I haven't mentioned Westernization. The options are endless, instead of making the pope my target I could have destroyed the false righteousness that was the Holy Roman Empire, and wiped it's false title from the face of the earth forever. I'm serious, this game is good. If only those losers at Steam could update the game to patch 5.1 I could play MEIOU which is a mod. This game is fun, but modifying it is where the true fun begins. The developers made it incredibly simple to mod, its all text-based! Or if your less comfortable with that you can download a mod online. Paradox interactive, the game developers, not only allow mods, they embrace them wholeheartedly and even take them into consideration with new game mechanics. I recommend this game 100% for simply, replay value. The game is limitless almost, and if your bored, mod it. Make it better. I can't say how much I love this game. If Europa Universalis IV comes out, I just might die from happiness. |

Well, I finally got EUIII working and I started a game as Austria in 1493. I fought two long wars against first Denmark/Sweden/Norway/Brandenburg/Mecklenburg; then one against Savoy/Genoa/Mantua/Palantaite(or however it's spelled)/Alsace/Navarra/Salzburg. After that, I ended up with Salzburg annexed, Brandenburg and Mecklenburg vassalised and a good portion of my own HRE whooped back into place (I would have done a bit more, but my infamy was getting high, and I couldn't do anything to Scandinavia without building a large North Sea navy and giving those vikings a chance to recuperate.). Now I'm stuck in a near unwinnable war with France over my territories. Even though I was able to push Swizerland out of the war, I'm still losing to France's 60,000 man army standing on my doorstep while my allies in Bavaria and Brandenburg sit with their 25,000 and 11,000 (respectively) strong armies doing nothing but watch me die, and no one else wants to ally with me because they're all afraid of France. Ugh, maybe I shouldn't have started my first real game on Medium difficulty...
Oh, and if you have the Steam version, there is a way that you can get the 5.1 version (This is also how I got the game working after I got my new graphics card). You have to copy and paste the EUIII folder in the 'steamapps/common' folder somewhere outside of the STeam folder (I put it in right on the C drive, so it was C:/europa universalis iii - complete) you then run the launcher (eu3.exe - The icon should be the PI logo) and update it to 5.1. You should be able to play DW 5.1 and you don't even have to start it with Steam. Edited by Drake2, Aug 10 2011, 04:30 AM.

That's perfect actually. I just did that and It worked. Now I can play MEIOU!!! It adds like 100 extra years and a lot of new provinces and countries. Plus Byzantium is named the Roman Empire so I can truly recreate the Roman Empire now. It's pretty awesome |
