Except, Daily Press Briefing, Cabinet Secretary Reith, St. Albert, Neolantia Sec. Reith: Now I want to repeat this. This government had absolutely no involvement in or prior knowledge of the Psyonian action against the MV Necehk Cih. President Leclair has personally assured the Retarin ambassador of this. Obviously we are extremely concerned for the welfare of this young man and consider a charge of piracy against the APS to be completely unwarranted in this situation. But, this is a matter to be handled through diplomatic channels, not by swashbuckling on the high seas. Now we've had our troubles with Retwinsore, but a this isn't the appropriate manner to handle this situation. The Slostian Prime Minister, Philemon Villiussi issued this statement earlier today. "While we in Slostia cannot condone Retwinsore's illegal whaling or the piratical actions of the APS, however we also maintain that the Psyonian government has acted recklessly with regards to the MV Necehk Cih by not attempting to seek a diplomatic course of action before seizing the ship and her crew. In addition to this MV Necehk Cih Incident, there is another matter that we wish to address, the matter of Psyonian reassertion of power in Scottland, as there has been some confusion over the exact location of the border between Scottland and the Slostian Antiborean Territory. The Slostian Government sincerely hopes for peaceful resolutions in both of these situations." |

[ooc] Anyone else making a statement about the incident go ahead and post them. I’m just going to continue the story and we’ll treat the statements as though they happened before the following. [/ooc] There was no question as to who the Psyonian public supported when the PNS Farthing pulled into Port Said with the whaling ship MV Necehk Cih following close behind. The two APS members were greeted with cheers as they walked down gangplank onto dry land where they were met by members of the National Police Service and representatives of their respective nations’ consular missions who were waiting to debrief the two young men. The crew of MV Necehk Cih was less well received, and the NPS officers waiting for them were as much for taking them into police custody as to protect them from the crowd that had formed on the docks. Signs and chants decrying the crewman as murderers filled the air, and angry demonstrators pushed against the erected barricades, testing the officers who were trying to keep the peace. As the crewmen were loaded into the police vans, several special agents were re-advising them of their rights. “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to have competent legal representation before and during your questioning. As a foreign national, you may request the legal representative be assigned by your nation’s consulate. "International law does not seem to favor the Retarin scientists in this matter because they were outside their territorial waters collecting samples, but this is a case for the Psyonian government, not a bunch of vigilante pirates, and until the Retarin scientists are safely returned, Her Divinity Empress Jia Li will give Retiwore whatever aid it needs to retrieve its citizens. We hope that both the wayward Retarin scientists and the APS vigilantes will stand trial and this matter will be solved diplomatically." |
