Agreed. I've just completely revised 1200 years of my nation's history to fit in with ideas suggested by others, and the consensus established. |

OMG, I'm still trying to figure it out. I started adjusting Daemonesu's background for a novel/D&D setting, discovered this place, tried to switch it back to the old version (which really sucked), and now I'm trying to reconcile the two. I think I might have worked out most of it, but I still need to sit down with Fenwick and make him settle on stuff. But having real world analogues (like France = ELE, French = Esprit, etc) and a summary of world history would make it much easier for new people to integrate. And fun facts, like our constellations.

I would like to propose an "Alterran World History Class". Someone would put together major events in Alterran history into one place, just the general stuff and one could read it. Maybe even one-on-one teaching. The problem with this is that it may get dry and boring. |

Given how long some of the histories are, I think it would quickly get boring. Even a bare-bones timeline - e.g. this war lasted from X to Y - would end up overwhelming a newcomer. I'm not disagreeing, but we need to find a better way. |

Well why would someone be doing this if they weren't interesting in history? |

I think we do need some kind of quick overview. The amount of information you need to know just to get started is getting huge. Maybe we could break it down into a short world overview and then regional guides. If you'e in the Pacatum Sea you don't need to know every detail of the history of Xia. The world overview could just have general info like what year is it and things like the World War or the Great Earthquake that affect everyone. |

How about we base the history off the nation they choose? Since we are planning on creating a vague history for all the pre-made nations. I will get on that soon. Like I said I am a little busy right now. |

There are different reasons to run a nation. Either way, it's a lot of information for one person to process, especially when they're simply trying to pick up general world history so they can come up with stuff for their nation. That said, I like the ideas you've both presented. It's one way to break down the information into a more digestible format. |

Oh. Idea. How about a University of Alterra forum? It would be a place where you could post your questions and get answers from whoever. As we get summaries written up on various topics we can post them in the Library too. |

Oh, addendum to idea. A University of Alterra Section. The Library goes there. Also a School of History forum where you can ask history questions. And also a School of the Arts for Alterra related artwork and a School of the Sciences for Astronomy and tech stuff? Edit to addendum to idea - the idea is that this would let the whole community participate in answering questions and such instead of it all falling on one person who was responsible for this or that. Then we could just compile the answers into faqs as we go along. Edited by Skye Rocket, Feb 14 2011, 05:15 AM.
