I can assist as well, though I think it'll be restricted to flags for now. |

I can do maps when my comp is up. The other categories may be tricky for me, depending on context, but I can give those a whirl. |

Does anybody have advice for putting/changing borders of countries on maps (Say I want to take a map of the world and draw an alternate history political map) and having it look nice? Also, I'd like to know how to draw arrows onto maps like these (to represent trade/immigration/military movements/etc.) and make them look nice (noticing a pattern here?). The graphics programs I have are Adobe Photoshop 7.0, Illustrator CS3, and I can download GIMP if need be. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. |

There are a lot of way to do borders depending on what you want them to look like. If you (or anyone) wants the the photoshop version of any of the maps let me know and I'll upload it someplace for you. When I did the nation plots on the world map I just drew a colored blob with the polygonal lasso tool, then applied a filter to it to make it smoother and curvier, and deleted the parts that overlapped the ocean or other countries. The filter is the jiggle filter from the Eye Candy plug in - you can download an older free version of Eye Candy here. If you want dot-dash type borders you can do those in Illustrator. The are lots of arrows you can use in the custom shapes tool in PS or again you can use Illustrator for that. And as I always mention The Cartographers Guild forums are the best place around to learn about mapping. |
