Wanted to try things out. Aquifers are actually amazing, really. Used in conjunction with a lever-controlled floodgates, you can create a lot of interesting effects such as A) Natural water defenses. Direct the flow of water to your entrance when invaders arrive and they'll have to wade through it to get to you. Won't end up losing precious dwarves, and you won't have to deal with the water being a nuisance to your dwarves in the meantime (some dwarves can be swept off from a bridge depending on weather). B) Controlled underground irrigation. You need wet soil for farms and there's nothing better than a large source of unending underground water to get your farmland wet. Gratuitous use of floodgates also ensures that you can reapply on future farmland. C) Just water. Whether it be drinking water, water to take a bath in, or a source of water to fill your buckets for other tasks, having an infinite underground source is, again, very useful, if you control it well. D) Fun. Playing around with Aquifers is quite enjoyable. |
