So, submersible warships are ok. Now, let's see how far we can push realism: airborne capital ships?

Zeppelin Force Bravo, ATTACK! Seriously though, beyond that I don't think the physics really holds up. Now extra-planetary capital ships might come about, but they'll be a bitch to build and won't serve much purpose beyond MAD until we actually get really significant colonization efforts going on on the other planets and/or the asteroids. |

What? They aren't impractical, they can supply, basically, a small air force to all but the farthest in-land places. |

The Nimitz is a very very powerful weapon of war, able to carry a large number of ships, litterally hundreds of marines, and also has the shock and awe factor. |

Actually, all of the current US Navy carriers are classified as "Super carriers." The Nimitz class requires over 5000 people to operate and carries up to 90 fixed and rotery wing aircraft. The Ford class will use a slightly smaller number of people and planes. Currently, the Navy operates 10 of the Nimitz and has 3 Fords planned. Also, the Iowa class battleships were in use long after WW2. Both the Wisconson and the Missouri were used in the Gulf War in 1991. For RP purposes, Taeunas has two supercarriers in service, one under construction, and one planned. Taeunas total fleet: 32 ships. That includes hospital, tender and subs. Edit: Almost forgot. Check out the I-400 class of Japanese Subs. It was a mini carrier! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I-400_class_submarine Edited by DeSchaine, Mar 6 2011, 05:10 AM.
