Then I guess your representatives at the Alterran Assembly hitch a ride with some one else. (The AA meets in the orbital habitat Sky City One). |

Exactly, and these are what I based New Emberline's sub/carriers on... |

Yeas, but if I remember right, they only carried 3 or 4 planes, and had to be assembled before launch. Are you proposing a Supercarrier size sub? I think that would be a bit far fetched. Possible, no doubt, but problematic. |

The ones in use during the Big War would be kinda 'small', like the I-400 class... slightly larger since Alterra has a slightly more advanced tech level from RL history. My 1934-1947 subs carry perhaps a half dozen planes each. Once the nuclear age comes upon us then a true carrier/sub would become possible... and we'd probably build exactly one. Proof of concept... maintaining more than a single carrier/sub would be ruinous... and even then it wouldn't likely be a true Supercarrier. It'd be a weapon, useful for a strike & move operation. Some SciFi I enjoy is based on just such a sub, just far more advanced than alterra and far larger than anything Emberline would ever build. It was a terror inducing Power projection ship. Imagine a Super Carrier that could approach by stealth, carry out its tasks as a Super carrier and then evade reprisal by submerging and leaving the AO. Spooky thing. I wouldn't suggest one of those... partly because it would shatter an economy just to build the beast and partly 'cause Alterra's modern tech isn't up to it. |
