I like that idea too and if this doesn't work, we'll try it. Sound good? |

I agree with this. Of course I'll respect any decision the mods make, but individually, privately, respectfully handling the issue with said "extreme militaries" that this process drums up could work too........ |

Yeah, that is probably the easiest way to go. But, that would require the actual creation of said panel. |

In regards to my miltary, I compare it to France's military. We have smaller Army (Under or about half the size) but a much larger Air Force and a slightly larger Navy. |

The moderated system has been brought up in other threads. But the free form (with some explaining when somebody goes overboard) seems to work best for now. Like the man said, it breaks down when trying to factor in size -and- technology... at the end of WW2 there's little doubt that the US & Britain had the baddest ass armies on the planet... ehanced by captured German research (and researchers)... while nobody wanted to tangle with the Soviet hordes or the Chinese Hordes sinply due to size... certainly wasn't the quality of the equipment or the training of the soldiers. Arguably Soviet troops had an extreme 'training' system at the time... survival=training... brutal but effective. New Emberline's military is top notch (DUH!) for its size... fairly advanced by given a habit of relying on older but tougher equipment... and with a compulory service term we have a nation of veterans. Coupled with mandatory gun ownership this is not a factor to be dismissed lightly. Could we successfully take on Orchyr or ELE? HA! Not if the goal was winning. But we can make a more powerful foe bleed and turn an occupation into a bloody mess... and that's our goal. Its important, IMO, to not underestimate the usefulness of 'older tech' either... WW2 halftracks remained in official use until the late 80s and some remains in use even today. During the last Israeli v. PLO/Hamas/whoever conflict I saw an M5 halftrack in some footage and they were using a truck mounted Katyusha launcher in another clip I was shown... both 'vintage WW2' and both deadly and/or practical as used. The US currently employs horses (cavalry) in the 'stan and the AK47 is almost standard issue for half the world. Not bad for a weapon designed in 1946 and based almost entirely off the StG44... shouldn't have to bring up the .50 cal at all. Heck, the USAF is completing operational plans for deploying the AT-6B for ground support... that's an armed version of the T-6 trainer used by the Air Force & Navy to train pilots. Friend of mine is involved with that project... its interesting. It means the USAF may actually be going to a prop driven combat aircraft again... going backwards to do better. So along with size & tech there's also tactical deployment... and how/why a nation does X or Y has to be factored in somehow... and often it can't be due to the nature of the game. So everything is pretty much fluid even if we lay down rules and get all official and crap. So play, have fun... worry about the details as they arrive and not so much unless a problem starts to loom and -then- we all need to think outside our 'Enlightened Self-Interest' box... Long post, I ramble... but glean what you will from it. |

Yuupp. I RPed my nation as having a draft too, to explain my large army. I also RP it has having a thriving economy based on tech, auto, arms, baking, etc. to pay for said military with my manually calculated DB. I can explain mines IF need be. |

I'd also like to add that military shipments (alliances), aid, etc from other allied nations should be exempt as they're just that. If certain nations want to make each other more powerful, well that should obviously be allowed as it's SOP and happens all the time in RL. |

Gifts? I don't think anyone just gives away weapons out of generosity. Cash might not be the motivation but there's always some kind of quid pro quo. |

I would give guns freely. Say that there are rebels in an enemy nation so i give them guns to blast that nation. |
