Welcome to Alterra, one of the biggest roleplay regions on NationStates! Here we pride ourselves in our ability to create a world unlike any other, where you are your nation and the people who live in it, interacting with other nations as a whole and other people individually. There’s a lot to our system, but it’s fairly easy to navigate through. Your first step will be to apply for citizenship. You will find that in the welcoming hall at the link below: Apply for Citizenship Now, the next place newcomers tend to go is to apply for a spot on the map. However, there is a rule here at Alterra to prevent inactive nations from jumping the gun. You must first post your national factbook in Alterra’s Library and be active on the forum for a week before you will be granted a spot on the map. If you are unfamiliar with factbooks, it is a bit of general information about your nation so that other nations may know it better. It isn’t required that you finish your factbook before you are put on the map, but you should have some general information about your nation posted. To get an idea of what should go in your national factbook, browse our extensive library and view the factbooks of current nations: Alterran Library As for activity, you may go to the News & Discussions section of the forum and talk about almost anything. It is a good place to get to know others in the community before you begin roleplaying. News & Discussions Once you have begun your factbook and have been posting in our community for at least a week, you may then apply for a position on the map. Our collection of maps is a true wonder, as the map of Alterra is broken down to maps of each individual continent. The land of Alterra is sectioned into five different claimable continents—Xia to the East, Libera in the Center and South, Hesperia in the Center and North, North Zephyria to the Northwest, and South Zephyria to the Southeast. Study the map for a bit, find a place you like, and post a request for a spot. A word of warning: Some plots of land have some history with them (as in being former colonies of an empire). While the nations that represent the former empires are available for negotiation as to its details, it’s asked that you cooperate as well and come to a compromise should you wish to keep the requested plot of land. To find out more about the maps and how to request a plot, follow the link below: Adding Your Nation to the World Map Other things you should about Alterra: We are a PMT (post-modern tech) region, which means we utilize technology that is approximately ten years from the present. However, it should be noted that we utilized the Pink Unicorn Rule. If you are uncertain if you are violating that rule or you have questions about Alterra in general, it is suggested you contact one of our advisers:
They are considered Alterra's experts on their given topics and will answer any questions you have. Also, don't be afraid to post questions in the The University of Alterra. Note: Alterra is primarily a forum-based region. However, NationStates remains an important part of our region. It is our primary recruiting tool and cannot be discarded or ignored. This is an unfortunate fact: without the NS region, we will have no new recruits. Please keep this in mind. If you do not keep your nation in Alterra, you may be removed from the map.
