Princess Anne smiled at the Queen, "I have a younger brother Charles, and my brother Andrew, while my twin is even less mature than Charles. Since my brother the Emperor has an entire nation to look after, the task of keeping an eye on them falls to me. So I think I know how you feel Your Royal Highness. By the way, how is your son? I just saw him on the cover of a magazine, I forgot the name of it though." |

"He is as rambunctious as ever. To be that young again." Lamented the Queen. "I didn't know you got our magazine here in Rathtinia. Would you like to meet him? I imagine he'd enjoy your company, maybe you can calm him down. By the way, has the Xosaian delegation arrived yet?" |

Princess Anne thought carefully for a moment, not wanting to reveal to a stranger, no matter how friendly, how she got some of her information. "Some of our top bookstores have limited amounts of magazines from other countries, I happened to spot one that had your son on the cover. As to your invitation, if his company is half as enjoyable as Your Highness's, then I would be delighted to meet your son." The Empress was glad that the Queen was enjoying herself. She knew Anne would make a good impression on the Queen, but she was surprised that the Queen invited Anne to meet her son, especially so soon after meeting her. An aide whispered to the Empress that her husband was on the way, she had no word on the Xosaian's ETA. The Empress answered the Queen, "Your Highness, the Emperor has just left the airport and is on his way here. I know the Xosaians have arrived, but I have no word yet as to whether they are on there way here or if they are stopping at the Grand palace to get freshened up. My husband does convey his apologies for the delay." |

The question of how the Rathtinian Princess obtained that info lingered in the Queen's mind for a minute, but she dismissed it, wanting to trust her new ally. "That's fine, we can continue to enjoy these festivities until then, this is a lovely hotel." The Queen then got a nasty feeling in her gut, as if it was stemming from her very soul. She thought something might be happening back home, but she dismissed that as well, wanting to focus on her diplomatic mission....... |

The Empress excused herself from the group so that she could prepare herself for when the Emperor arrived. Princess Anne continued to entertain the Justosian guests, "Your Highness, I am glad you enjoy the hotel. However, it pales in comparison to the splendors of Avalon. It was built under the direction of Angelique Rathtin, who was the first daughter of Emperor William I and Empress Marie. She wanted a hotel to honor the majesty of her mother and this hotel was the result. Unfortunately, neither of her parents lived to see its completion as Andrew I was the first Emperor to live in Solaria. I do hope that it meets with your approval." |

The Xosaian delegation had elected to head straight to the party, and took up the Emperor's offer to go there immediately. The Emperor and Prime Minister walked in front, the latter explaining to the Rathtinian Emperor the reasons of their tardiness. "We do apologize, your Highness, for our lateness. No doubt you all are miserable from waiting out here in the rain for so long. However, it seems Alterra has no interest in the diplomatic ventures of her inhabitants." She turned for a quick glare at the Ambassador General. Being shaken off like that, as though he were some petty mongrel, she thought to herself. Her own Emperor suddenly chimed in. "Hopefully this will at least partially make it up to you" he said, as opened a long, polished wooden box that one of his guards had just given to him. Inside was a long, jewled saber"As you probably know, Xosaia is famous for the quality and beauty of the kyanite mined there," he said, as he noticed the Rathtinian Emperor's eyes slide down to the bejewled hilt. He smiled. "Now, I believe we have a party to get to, your Excellency? I am embarrassed enough by our making you wait, let us not make your wife and the Justosian Queen wait any longer.", adorned with kyanite of various shades. |

The emperor listened to Xosaian pm's explanation for their tardiness. When the Emperor was presented with the sword he smiled at the Xosaian Emperor. "Thank you your majesty," inspecting the blade he said, "I have nwever sewn its equal. I look forward to our continued friendship. My foreign minister will show you and your entourage to the limos. They will take you the reception. Please forgive me, but we will be riding seperately as there are some personal calls I need to make and I would be poor company." With that the Emperor took his leave from his guests and called his wife. |

The Emperor just got off the phone with his wife, when his intelligence chief's phone buzzed. The chief answered and all the Emperor could hear was his chief's side of the conversation, "Yes, he's here with me... Are you sure? Has the Queen been informed? I'll tell him." The Emperor waited patiently for his chief to finish the conversation, he didn't have to ask what was said, "Your Majesty, the Crown Princess has been killed in an airplane crash back in Justosia." "Has it been confirmed?" "Yes sir, we have confirmation through SIGINT and HUMINT sources. It was the Crown Princess's plane. She's gone." The Emperor sighed sadly and whispered a prayer for the Princess before saying, "First we almost lose the Xosaians to a plane crash, now we DO lose a Justosian princess. This alliance is crumbling before it has even been put together. Has the PM been informed?" "He was the next call after me sir. Do you want me to call the Empress?" "No, I'll tell her myself, if she doesn't know already. Call Milena and tell her to tell the Xosaians, they might know already, but still as a courtesy share the news. I'll call the PM after my wife and inform him to formally offer our condolences to the Justosian government. Where's Andrew?" "At the reception." "After you call Milena, call the chief of his detail and tell him to tell Andrew what has happened. Get him to the palace so he can help the PM run things from there. Was this an accident?" "The Justosians don't know. We haven't heard anything on the comm networks." "It could have been this Jerusalem thing. If it forced their king to stay home, then it might be bigger than we thought. Somebody there might not have taken it well." "it is certainly possible sir, we are pursuing that angle, but it's too early to come to any conclusions. Nobody, so far, has taken credit for the crash, IF it was deliberate. What we do know, is that they HAVE increased their threat level and that means an increase in their readiness. Do you want the High Council summoned? "No, this isn't an emergency, well our emergency, yet. Make sure the right people are notified, as a courtesy. I'm sure the Military High Command knows by now. They are authorized to take any appropriate steps to maintain positive control of our defensive sphere, but they are NOT to increase OUR threat levels unless they receive my express permission. I'll call the PM and let him know my wishes." "And the treaty signing?" "Obviously, the festivities will have to be canceled. As a show of solidarity, I'm going to proclaim a national day of mourning. Flags will fly at half staff, I'll wear my black uniform for the rest of the Queen's stay." "Do we insist the Justosians sign the agreement?" "We don't insist. I will ask the Queen if she is still authorized to sign the treaty and if it is her wish to do so here. As long as a their government and the Xosaians sign the treaty text, they can just deposit a copy at our embassy and we can fly it back in the diplomatic bag so that we have records of the treaty. Whether they sign in Solaria or back in the countries, doesn't really matter that much. I wanted them here to mark the occasion. Our purposes are still achieved once the treaty is signed." The chief nodded and started dialing the Foreign Minister's number. The Emperor looked out and saw the hotel come into view. After Milena Skouros ended her call with the Intelligence Chief she called the Xosaian ambassador and told him the news. Word spread quickly at the hotel. Princess Anne noticed the Queen's change in demeanor after she received her phone call. The room was abuzz as she glanced away and saw her brother Andrew leave with his detail. A pang of fear crept into Anne's stomach as she imagined different, yet equally horrible scenarios. An aide quickly found her and whispered the news to her. "So, the Crown Princess is dead," Anne thought to herself, "I guess my visit won't be happening anytime soon." Anne then composed herself and stepped towards the Queen, "Your Majesty, I have just heard the news about your daughter-in-law. I am so very sorry for your loss and the loss of your son." Before the Queen could respond, an Imperial herald announced the Emperor's arrival. The Emperor entered the room, and as Anne and the rest of the Rathtinians bowed and curtsied, the Emperor made a beeline straight for the Queen. "Your Majesty, I am so very sorry to hear about your tragic news. Every Rathtinian, especially me personally, grieve for your loss and wish you and your family our very sincerest condolences," said the Emperor whose countenance was very grave. |

The Emperor noticed that the Queen's facial expression was solemn, but with a solid determination. "Thank you Your Imperial Majesty. It is also most lovely to finally meet you. I refuse to let this tragedy however, ruin, even delay the singing of this crucial treaty. I strongly urge you to keep everything on course. This will show strength here, in Xosaia, and back home. It will serve to help calm my people, and deter any enemies who may have done this. Please heed my suggestion." The Emperor then saw a side of Her Majesty that few see back home, The Iron Bell. For her determination was solid, and level headed and brave conviction echoed through the room. |
