Ruler of The Republic of Vantel
|
Ok, I would like to submit mine. Here it is: Vantel (or its constituent people) has been a regional power since before written history and remains such today. Vantel is a significant source of lumber and metal for much of the current world, note that I said significant as there are nations who produce just as much and a few who produce more. Vantel has been a significant naval power since the days of the Kingdom of Phalos and currently maintains 9 aircraft carriers which places it in the major tier for Naval power. Vantel has maintained a healthy technology industry but is a world leader in Aerospace engineering. Vantel had established Alterra's second, standing, democracy after that of Neolantia. Vantel's economy is Free trade in nature with only slight provisions for product quality. Vantel was a founding member of the influential Nerian Commonwealth, the longest standing democratic and economic alliance to date. Vantel has been very influential throughout history, battling one of the largest and most powerful colonial powers in the colonial days, aiding the victorious Slostian Democrats in their Civil War, and being a key contributor on the Zephyrian front of the Great War. I feel that through these various factors, that Vantel deserves to be a leading contributor of the I-18. Thank you for regarding my argument. |

I noticed Leraq put me down as a possibility for the I18. I'm not too sure personally - I see Zelensgart as a newly industrialised country which benefits from being on top of a major oil deposit, so not really one of the top economies (although oil always helps!). On the other hand, Saudi Arabia is in the G20, so sufficient oil may well be a good enough criterion to be on this kind of organisation. |

Slightly awkward simply for the fact that we are debating historical resolutions, so it's possible that a nation will violate these resolutions, e.g. if we pass a resolution regarding trade and I refuse to sign it in 1959, then I'll have been violating this law for several decades. However, ICly, the whole document makes sense. I really brought it up to see how we would possibly handle this should the situation come up. |

The I9 is a current thing, only just implemented. It's not historical. |

Then you are misunderstanding me. We have a current day AA and a "historical" AA; the purpose of the historical AA is to debate and pass laws, such as human rights, nuclear proliferation, air and nautical territories, etc., that should have been passed before 2011. There should be a year attached to these proposals. Therefore, if in RL August 2011 we debate and pass a law restricting the use of bioweapons whose historical date is IC 1959 and I decide in RL August that I wouldn't have signed in, then I will be in violation because IC 1959 is part of the board's "present". |

Ok, then this applies only to modern day resolutions i.e psot I9 formation. Or should we allow members to refuse to sign AA resolutions? |

OCCly, I don't think we should allow members to refuse to sign as I can see where there might be problems in doing so, i.e., I would feel uncomfortable with Koussath being a participant due to its blatant lack of respect for human rights, but forcing nations to sign every resolution may cause problems. We have democracies and monarchies in the AA and obviously their doctrines will be different. ICly, I'd rather have that leeway. Though I think ICly I probably should have left the AA years ago.

I18 nations wouldn't be required to adhere to I9 decisions, would they? |
