The reason people don't want to play weaker nations is because they have fewer opportunities than their stronger neighbours. A powerful US-style nation is able to get involved in that war/crisis RP that's just started whereas the nation modelled on Haiti just gets to watch and make the occasional comment in their news thread. At least, that's the perception. In the hands of a determined player, a smaller nation can exert an influence out of proportion to its true power, but it's not easy. And this is the problem with groups like the G8 and G15- everyone wants to be at the party, but because membership is judged on IC criteria, it doesn't necessarily follow that the extra opportunities for RP go to the players who most deserve them. Now this isn't a criticism of the G8/G15, because they make sense. It's just an observation that if you really want more people to player weaker nations, then you need to provide more opportunities for the little countries instead of rewarding those who 'think big'. |

Problem is you can't "reward" poorer or less influential nations. There is no way to my knowledge, to encourage the development of weaker nations |

I know I didn't mention it before, but I do feel Leraq should be excluded based on 1) recent instability in the nation and 2) I still think the nuclear crisis in his fact book is rather unrealistic, but I've left that to the military committee to figure out who even has nukes at this point.
Also depends on perception. Demoness is strong for whatever reason even though I never go into my economy and my OOC knowledge of the military is embarrassing. It's also rather barbaric in consideration of the RL world because it's a theocracy, there is no welfare (as extended families are expected to provide if one cannot find a job), and punishment is usually quite severe. However, it has many strong and patriotic personalities speaking for it... Actually, I've been considering over the last few days that if the AA actually monitors its membership, Demoness might actually get kicked out. >.> |

First off, to be completely honest, and though I hate to admit it, I hadn't thought of Xosaia as a global economic power. We avoided globalization to a large extent. While our domestic economy is very strong and stable, I have to say that of the G8 candidates, Xosaia is probably the least deserving. If not Xosaia(most likely due to me overestimating other nation's economies), then either Leraq or Taeunas might be taken off. |

Lux will never be a major power and thus will likely never be a part of these "elite" groups. While the G8/G15 groups make sense to me, the formation of too many groups based on this criteria could be very discouraging to new players and cause them to create bloated economies in an attempt to be included. I personally enjoy the challenge that playing a "weak" nation presents but I have to admit its been difficult for me to figure out how to involve myself in the world at large (still haven't to be honest). Its a double edged sword really. If we are modelling after the real world then such groups will exist, its only natural, but if we want players to create nations that make sense and model a real world, we have to be sure that small/weak nations aren't always excluded. |

That's the problem I have. Luckily, I have a leader that wants to ignore the foreign policy she herself set down, so weak or isolationist, Demoness still steps in. |

And that too is the reason that I started with a new, young queen that intends to push Lux into the world at large |

Mine's an idealist, naive, or an idiot depending on who you ask. Though that reminds me, your leader took over at about the same age as Jia Li, so she'd likely want to at least talk with the young queen to attempt to mentor her; at this point she's eleven years older than her. |
