The Prime Minister doesn't have to be an Alum, but he almost always is. The Prime Minister is aided by the Alumary, as well as his own Councillary. Military: Overview: When the treaty of Denil was signed, ending the bloody Florinthian Wars that had lasted for over a century, all of the states forfeited their standing armies and vowed to never again hold a professional miltary. Naturally, there are times when a military is necessary, and some standing forces are vital to a nations protection, and so the states chose to give that responsibility to the private sector. Thus, the "War Companies" were founded by groups of wealthy investors with pockets large enough to pay for an entire nations military needs. At first, there were thousands of private contractors, each vying for lucrative defense contracts. Over time however, these relatively small businesses joined together to dominate the market. By the late 1930s, cooperation and competition had reduced the number of war conpanies to less than 50 conglomerations. Almost all of these hyper-corporations still exist today to some extent, and they are some of the largest and most-wealthy in Alterra. They fiercely guard their contracts to the various states, as well as the confederation itself. To protect their monopoly on the Florinthian military market, several of the largest corporations formed the Florinthian War Consortium, which is endorsed by the Alumary as the military arm of the Confederation. The FWC, led by the Florinthian Defense Council, exists to coordinate the resources and technology of the various corporations most efficiently. The FWC decides which companies recieve which contracts, and also coordinates military research. Essentially, they serve to streamline an standardize the military that is contracted by the Confederation, as it is not only their biggest and most important contract, but one that is of vital importance to their very existence. The Consortiums primar goal is to ensure the protection of the Confederation. That being said, they are free to sign whatever contracts they deem necessary, and are known for being particularly strict in their dealings, carrying out extensive background checks on potential buyers. The Consortiums biggest contract is owned by the Confederation itself, and is used to protect the confederation. On top of this, many of the individual states have hired out their own individual contracts, should they feel that the confederations protection is insufficient. The largest and most successful War Companies in Florinthus, commonly called the "Big Five", are the Titan Corporation which handles Infantry, Espionage, and Covert Operations, NuTek Industries which handles Navy, Espionage, Mechanized, and Air, Apex Motor Works which develops Mechanized weaponry, Adelaide Aeronautics which handles Air, Mechanized, and Space, and Cimbus Mechanics which contributes to the Navy and Mechanized. Florinthus' Military Goal/Situation: -Defensive on the strategic level -No territorial ambitions -Anti-Interventionist -Fiercely defensive of economic interests -prefers to deal with situations diplomatically rather than militarily -prefers "ghost warfare" with espionage and intruige over open-warfare -low casualties (quality over quantity) Land: The predominant military theory for Florinthian land forces is "quality over quantity". This mantra has slowly enveloped the Florinthian military, making it the most advanced contracted army in Alterra. It has proved useful given the defensive military stance that florinthus has used since the end of the florinthian civil war. Infantry The Florinthian Infantry Corps is mainly comprised of employees working for the Titan Corporation. They are highly trained but few in number. The actual infantry soldier is trained in nearly all forms of warfare so that he can contribute to any contractor he is hired for. As with the rest of the Florinthian military, the emphasis is on quality, and as such the Florinthian infantry work best in small squads of 4-5 men, and are usually used in such units. Airborne The Florinthian Airborne has existed as long as the Air Force, though is actually a branch of the Army. Airborne forces are generally used in situations where a large-scale force is deemed unnecessary or innapropriate. Mechanized/Armour Navy: The Florinthian navy is almost exclusively produced and maintained by Nutek Industries, with several technological and mechanical contributions from Cimbus Mechanics. The main harbors are in Balzary, Fenridge, and Libertum, with Libertum being the primary harbor. Air: Air Superiority has never been a primary focus of the Florinthian military, and throughout its history has served a supplementary role. With the advent of modern air superiority, the Air Force has branched out into other realms and has proven an important arm in the Florinthian military. The air force is primarly under the control of Adelaide Aeronautics with NuTek Industries providing several specific functions connecting the Air Force to the navy. There are eight aor bases spread about Florinthus, although the primary base is located in Stetson. Special Operations: maybe some other time... Edited by Florinthus, Jun 19 2013, 09:18 PM.

Economy: Overview The Florinthian economy thrives in a laissez-faire system of little government interference. This has led to the delight of the corporate sector in particular. On a national scale, the Florinthian private sector handles many responsibilities that other nations reserve for their government, such as education, health, and safety. Here are some quick facts: Currency: Florinthian Dollar (₣) Exchange rate: 1₣ = 1.3945 SMU GDP: approximately ₣3.38 trillion GDP per capita: approximately ₣52 thousand GNP: ₣5.135 trillion GNP per capita: ₣79 thousand GNI: ₣8.515 trillion GNI per capita: ₣131 thousand Unemployment Rate: 2.55% Resources/Industries: ... Governmental Budget: ... The Florinthian Dollar (₣) The Florinthian Dollar (₣) is the national currency for the confederation, and has been since it's inception. Early on in the confederations history, each state used its own currency, and the Florinthian dollar was used primarily for trade between the states, as well as on the international market. This changed in 1919 when the Alumary passed the Currency Regulation Act of 1919, making the Florinthian dollar the sole currency of the Confederation. Currently, the Florinthian dollar is worth 1.3945 standard monetary units. Other Economic Information: ... Edited by Florinthus, May 8 2013, 12:09 PM.

Politics: Political Organizations: Florinthus is primarily a multi-party government. Political organizations in Florinthus are fundamentally different than those of other nations, mostly due to the decentralized nature of the confederation. Representation in the Alumary is determined by the states, so the existence and extent of political parties is variable in each state. States in which the citizenry elect their representatives see political parties in positions of great political power, while states in which representatives are appointed or selected see political parties fulfilling the purpose of representing the "will of the people". The most popular political parties in Florinthus and their respective idealogies are as follows: -Confederate Party: Statist - Far-Right -Democratic Party: Nationalist - Far-Right -Liberal Party: Libertarian - Right -Galeaen Party: Galeaen Nationalist - Right -Conservative Party: Conservative - Center-Right -Progressive Union: Progressive - Center-Left -Social Party: Populist - Left -Communist Party: Communist - Far-Left Major Issues/Opinions: To be continued... The "Florinthian Philosophy": "Freedom, Equity, Prudence" is the phrase that dominates the Florinthian sociopolitical psyche. It represents the ultimate goal of the confederation, as well as a filter that all bills and acts must pass through before they are acceptable. All Florinthian politicians, diplomats, and businessmen operate by this mantra as well, and it has developed Florinthus into a prime example of efficiency and equality in government. Diplomacy/International Relations: A Brief History of Florinthian Diplomacy: Pre-1600 C.E.: The various Florinthian states were mostly independent of foreign relations prior to 1500 C.E. and foreigners were often viewed with suspicion. The southern-most states, most notably the Kingdom of Galeae, maintained friendly relations with the Kingdom of the Esprit, trading with them. With the advent of Yeshuism, most of the northern states began loathing the primarily Veritas Esprit to the south, and Galeaen-Esprit cooperation was one of the early reasons for the Florinthian-Galeaen animosity that led to several wars over the next few centuries and eventually resulted in the climax of the Florinthian Civil Wars. 1601 C.E. - 1700 C.E.: When the news broke that explorers under the banner of the Kingdom of Orchyre had discovered new lands, several of the Florinthian states began exploring lands of their own. Fenridge and Libertum invested the most into their explorations, and were the only Florinthian states to attempt to colonize foreign lands. Yeshuite missionaries begin traveling accross Alterra, particularly from Tarleton. 1701 C.E. - 1900 C.E.: With the Florinthian Civil Wars raging, the Florinthian states were even more introverted and self-concerned than usual. Some states maintained trade with foreign nations, mostly to help fund their war operations. Daienist missionaries from Fenridge, Balzary, and Denil joined their Universal counterparts from Tarleton in great voyages to foreign lands, trying to spread the Yeshuite faith. Once the Florinthian Civil War concluded and the nation was united, most Florinthians were too concerned with rebuilding their land than communicating with foreigners. 1901 C.E. - 1950 C.E.: Florinthus remained uninvolved in international affairs during the times leading up to the Great War, and managed to remain neutral for the duration of the war. This didn't stop Florinthians from profiting though, and the War Companies flourished. Florinthus was also a vital place of refuge for uprooted citizens, fleeing soldiers, and prisoner exchanges alike. Indeed, the Florinthian population expanded rapidly during the war, as oppressed peoples from across Alterra came to the safe shores of Florinthus in droves. When the war ended, many of those refugees stayed. 1950 C.E. - Present: In the years following the war, Florinthus slowly started to open up contact with foreign nations, no doubt due to the sizeable foreign population that had only recently arrived. In a gesture of good will, Florinthus joined the Alterren Assembly. This was recieved in a good light by the nations of Alterra, but was seen as an unpopular decision by many Florinthians at home. In January, 2013, Florinthus withdrew from the Assembly in favor of the newly formed Hesperian Confederation of Independent Nations. Florinthus in the International Community: Florinthus is a minimal player on the international stage, and so is relatively unknown to the common man. Despite this, Florinthian diplomats are known for being honest and fair, and tend to view other cultures with an open mind, although they rarely do anything other than observe. Florinthian diplomats are known for their strict adherence to the Florinthian Philosophy (see above). Edited by Florinthus, Apr 4 2013, 05:04 PM.

Religion: General Information Religion is widespread in Florinthus, and was the catalyst of many wars throughout its history. There are many different religions present in the Confederation, but the three religious organizations with the most followers in Florinthus are the Trivense Universal Church, the Daienist Reformed Church, and the Veritas Church. The Veritas Church is the oldest, and its followers are most present in the Galeaen states, as well as the southern most Florinthian States. Yeshuanity is most common in the north and west, with Daienism being most common on the coast and far north, while the Universal Church dominates the central states surrounding the Princedom of Tarleton. Throughout the histor of Florinthus, these three religions have fought various wars in order to forcefully convert the other states, or simply eliminate another religion. Religious History Prior to the Cerberusian control of the country, the people of Florinthus were primitive in nature, and worshiped various animist deities and demons. Witchcraft and mysticism were plentiful, and the local tribes were usually guided in spiritual matters by a village shaman. The first organized religion was brought be the Cerberusians. When the Cerberusians conquered most of the land, they brought the Veritas Church with them. During the Cerberusian rule, the Veritas Church dominated the southern portion of the country, where Cerberusian influence was most strong, while the north remained more primitive and tribal in nature. When the Cerberusian empire collapsed and the barbarians from the north invaded, the Veritas faith stayed. Following the Cerberusian collapse, the Galeaen Empire spread across the land, eventually claiming all of the land previously controlled by the Cerberusians. The Galeaen Empire at this point was heavily influenced by Cerberus culture, and many Galeaen nobles had significant Cerberusian bloodlines. The Veritas faith flourished under Galeaen rule, and after several hundred years, nearly the entire land was Veritas, even the wilder lands of the north. This remained so, even when the nation broke into city states after the Galeaen Empire was dissolved by infighting and civil war. For the next several centuries, the religious climate stabilized and Veritas cemented itself as the dominant faith, in one form or another. Orthodox Veritas only truly existed in Galeae, as over time most of the other states morphed the original faith into something that suited their culture. Starting in 651 C.E., Yeshuan missionaries arrive in western Florinthus from the Universal Church of Trivense. Early on, the missionaries were turned back or killed but after several decades the religion gathered a strong following, despite the best efforts of the Veritas leadership. Many Yeshuans were slaughtered by Veritas "cleansing" efforts. In 743 C.E. the Yeshuan Florinthians banded together for protection in several nomad camps across the countryside. These camps frequently raided the countryside to further their cause and simply disrupt Veritas actions. Very little real progress was made until Skeii Atheling, the leader of the largest of the camps , Uthtegaed, began uniting the camps. After bringing over half of the camps to his side, he was crowned Kae'Nyg, or king. King Skeii then set his eyes on the largest prize, Galeaen trading hub Taeler'Ataen. The barbarian nature of the Florinthian Yeshuans put off the papacy in Trivense, and Skeii was denied in several requests for aide. Determined to move forward into civilization, Skeii vowed to capture Taeler'Ataen instead of destroying it like many of the other Veritas cities he had sacked. King Skeii died before he could muster the strength to capture his prize, and so the responsibility fell to his son, Ferryn Atheling, who succeeded his father as Kae'Nyg of the Florinthian Yeshuans. Ferryn shared his fathers devotion to civilization, and revolutionized the way the Yeshuans organized their armies. In 799 C.E. King Ferryn succeeded in capturing Taeler'Ataen and, at the request of the Pope in Trivense, renamed it Tarleton. Ferryn and his son, Kleist, rebuilt the city into a beacon of modernity, with plumbing and stone walls not seen since the high age of the Galeaen Empire. The Papal authorities assigned Tarleton a bishop upon the construction of the Cathedral of Tarleton. The bishop crowned Ferryn the first Holy Prince of Tarleton. Over the next several centuries, Yeshuanity, with its capital in Tarleton, spread across Florinthus like a wildfire, with Veritas only remaining in the Galeaen heartland and Libertum. By the time Pope Silvius VII called for the First Liberan Crusade in 978 C.E. Yeshuanity had dominated Florinthus, and much of the country had adapted to a feudal society. Holy Prince Desmond I called for the numerable Yeshuans of Florinthus to unite and fight the infidels of Libera. Accurate estimates are difficult to find, with some being as small as 25 thousand while others are as high as 125,000. Odds are, it was somewhere in the middle. Soon after the Pope's call for the crusade, the Bishop of Tarleton, backed by Holy Prince Desmond I, organized a Florinthian crusading force of approximately 25,000 able soldiers. Duke Bertram II of Fenridge pledged to join Desmond, and their combined forces totaled approximately 40,000. Meanwhile, another man was organizing a crusade of his own. Johann the Bard traveled across the Florinthian countryside, preaching in favor of the crusade. Over the course of his travels, he gathered approximately 70,000 pilgrims to join him in his march on the holy land. ... Edited by Florinthus, Jun 14 2013, 01:51 PM.
