Actually, one man to eight women would recreate the human race; one woman to eight men would cause a genetic bottleneck from which the human race would not recover. Though sexually speaking, the former ratio is nicer.

I'm with Yasutomi. Can't be any worse than the last few seasons of LOST. |

Breaking it down further, one woman with eight men could only be pregnant once every ten or so months. Assuming childbirth did not kill her and she remained fertile until fifty, the average age of menopause, then she would produce two children every three years. Assuming again she started at twenty, in thirty years she'd have twenty children (again, assuming no twins). A man with eight women would have obviously eight times as many children, assuming fertility remained steady, and that would be 160 children instead within the first lifespan. Obviously, inbreeding could not be avoided in either case, but a wider pool of initial population would lessen the chances, however minorly, of keeping bad genes. Or, more likely, it's a rather nice way for men to justify bigamy. ![]()
Sounds more like an anime. |

I have a lot to post here, but I wanted to get to this quote first. The irony in it is mildly tasty. Also:
As a Wiccan, I can say that although we are few and far between, there are some of us out there. Now for the actual topic of the thread. Beyond the realm of the Internet, I am 100% male. However, on the Internet, I share the sentiments of Yasutomi and have been known to RP as a female from time to time. |

Though if we had to restart the human race, that ratio would suck quite a bit.
