Well then lets try to get some going. I'm certainly up for it (Libra and her crew need other things to do aside from kidknapping the future consort ). And I am sure we could think up reasons for any number of us to be in some location at the same time, or doing things concurrently. I think if we can successfully get some more character based RP going, it may inspire newer nations to follow suit and maybe not only focus on being the biggest or most heavily armed.

There are several reasons for us to be in the same place at once, especially if we don't use "main" characters. There's a lot of things we can do under the guise of tourism and friendship on a personal level. There are other things I'm sure we can come up with as well. |

Yes, culture is important and yes, it's often overlooked. But equally I don't want to sit in a corner, all alone, quietly developing my culture whilst the big boys and girls play with their exciting, expensive toys! Just sometimes I would like to be able to play...because believe it or not, I'm actually interested in military affairs too.
But is anyone going to want to play a third-world nation economically, militarily and politically dominated by Xosaia and Transxokyyria...that is, when it isn't being occupied by Laddneia or Emerald?! To be honest, I really don't see that happening, because given a choice most new players will want to play yet another 100 million+ nation with 10 carrier battle groups...and if they're not given that choice, they'll most likely leave. There seems to be a mass delusion that new players will be queuing up to play poor nations for the rest of you to exploit in order to justify your space colonies and I18 membership...and I think it's time we had a reality check.
I've got ideas for some characters...I just need a way to get them involved with other people!
I'm quite keen to develop W&M as just the sort of place where people from different nations might meet for unofficial talks, plotting, money laundering etc. I have ambitions to make it a centre for no-questions-asked offshore banking, like the Caymen Islands, as well as a flag-of-convenience for international shipping. Basically a small, rich, paternalistic but pro-business state- an island version of Liechtenstein. I think that has enormous possibilities and hopefully will help stimulate character RP too... |

Do not knock small nations. Some of them are very resourceful. Just look at the real nation of Albania. Empires have tried to conquer them, have conquered them but in the end those empires fell and Albania is still there chugging along. Watch this video I found on Albanias greatest heroe Skanderbeu and his fight against the Ottoman Empire. You will really like it. Near the end the Ottoman Turks are trying to capture an Albanian walled city. Year is around 1444. Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ0Md17U2N4&feature=related This next video shows much more of that walled city siege. It is very good and shows how they use to fight in those days. Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2hEW5gMzgE&feature=related Some documentary information on the Albanian heroe Skenderbeu who is still remembered in Albania. Recommend you watch this. Most people have no idea about any of this. Video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVVwVXbibWY So small nations do matter and can change or effect world history. |

If I was feeling particularly cruel and cynical, I might suggest that the one of the reasons why modern Albanians remember Skanderbeg is precisely because they haven't had a lot to cheer about since the 15th century! Yes, Skanderbeg was undoubtedly a great Albanian hero who defied one of the greatest powers of the age, the Ottomans, but that can't disguise the fact that Albanian resistance collapsed shortly after his death. Fast-forward through several centuries of Ottoman rule and we come to the foundation of modern Albania in 1913-14, when the Great Powers selected a German prince, Wilhelm of Wied to be its prince. Not that he lasted long, as he returned to Germany once WWI began, leaving 'his' country to be invaded by the Central Powers in 1916. Then there followed a period of confusion until 1925, when a republic was declared...which lasted all of three years because in 1928, Ahmed Zogu proclaimed himself King Zog and ruled until the Italians invaded and annexed the country in 1939. After WWII, things continued to go downhill for the Albanian people who found themselves ruled by a particularly hardline communist regime led by Enver Hoxha, who first broke with the USSR and then with the PRC! Not even the fall of communism in the 90s brought a respite to this valiant and long suffering country, thanks to a fraudulent pyramid investment scheme which cost thousands of Albanians their meagre life-savings. With all due respect, I really wouldn't call that a shining success story! In fact, Albania has rather a lot in common with Transxokyyria... I am looking forward to watching those clips when I have a moment tomorrow, though

In regards to being bossed around by the other larger nations, why don't you form a mutual defense coalition among other small nations. I'm sure the companies of Florinthus would be willing to mobilize their forces to defend other nations in the name of wealth... *ahem* I mean unity |

Good... You can be in charge of my military. >.>
I have to agree since this is the primary factor that changed Demoness' original direction to what it is today. It may be more interesting to play a third world country, but in order to interact with most nations, you have to be on their level and no one is willing to choose that.
Hmm... It might be interesting to try to play in shady countries, but I need to come up with plots that would support that. The one thread I had that dealt with back room dealings is taking off kinda slow. I'd like to see more about the spy game, whether or not it's realistic.
*whines again* I really, really want South Xia to have a similar thing, but there's no one there... |

heh heh. Sorry 'bout that.... *sheepish look* I'd love to be involved in any shenanigans you got going Yatsutomi, and in particular am sure that we'd like to use your money laundering services. I'd love to RP anything you're interested in related to shady business dealings, if you can abide my agonizingly slow (even to me!) response times. Drop me a line if you're interested in working out the relationships between my drug cartels and your secret banks. |

Heh, considering how often I tried to initiate this story line with Hikari, I think it's cursed. But I am looking forward to the other stuff we worked out.
