4.0 Allemannen Culture The Allemannen language is a 'Germanic' language related most closely to Slostian but has diverged over the centuries and has lost its mutual intelligibility to the Slostian language. The main difference between Slostian and Allemannish is the vast amount of Xian influence from the 'Slavic' speaking peoples. As a people who's major source of income and livelihood for centuries were herding of their livestock, goats, sheep and cattle and with a lack of direct governmental control the people were prone to violence. When ones entire life and funds lie in the herd one were to be prepared to retribute against any and all thieves. This matter of thinking has declined during the last century when herding mostly gave way to the industries and factoris that sprung up in the cities where officials could punish criminals. From herding the people got food, wool and companionship. Hospitality to strangers were seen as a important virtue and thus even the most poor peasant family often had at least one spare set of clothing for cold travelers. This can be still be seen today in the rural parts of the nation.
The art of body modification like tattooing were and is regaining popularity, taking influence from their herding nature, the iron age people that inhabited the land that was to be known as Allemann tattooed animals and other symbols unto their bodies. A revival of ancient Allemannen culture and history has led to classical motifs being popular again. ![]() Tattoo's of a male found in a bog, on him we can see tattoo's of various animals. Another part of the body where the iron age people tattooed themself were the face, there they mainly from archaeological findings tattooed circles and other such lines. Other motifs were similar to those found on wooden objects. Facial tattooing is rare but has gained some popularity, mainly by the nations 'rebellious' youth and is gaining acceptance by the general public. ![]() Allemannen people, late bronze age/early iron age, notice the animal and tree tattoo's aswell as the facial tattoo's on the man. As a land with alot of forests, wood has been a staple building material, thus Allemannen people were and still are good carpenters. Often not requiring such things as nails to make a sturdy building. Another aspect of the wood handling was wood carving and carving in metals and bones. Almost everything was almost excessively adorned. ![]() Buckle made of silver, 13th century. The chosing of the different leaders, wether it is the leader of a small town or the entire nation is important for the Allemannen, in early Allemann history it was the tribe chieftains who would vote for the leader of the High Council which was the precursor to the modern federal state. 4.1 Food Food in Allimannia is often very simple at least compared to foreign cuisines, indeed soups is the most common food both for the rulers and the commoners, a soup with root vegetables and meat served with dark bread is considered the national dish. Another source of food is the nations many cows and sheep, from which milk and cheeses come from, aswell as meat products such as sausages. "Infront of me I have a platter, with root vegetables, aswell as a large sausage, the owners of the restaurant told me it is a special sausage made from ox and smoked and with more than forty percent meat in it, this looks like it will be a nice meal." - Unknown tourist. 4.2 Architecture Due to the abundance of tree's in the nation so is the primary building source made from those tree's, the buildings often have intricate carvings and symbols carved into the wood. Sometimes entire tales and folklore legends can be seen on the walls of a particularly old house. 4.3 Religion Religion as a whole is on a downward course in the Commonwealth. Among the religious people there could be said to be three major religious affiliations. The largest religion in Allemannen is Slostian Orthodox Veritas, the second largest is Yeshuanity and the smallest is the revival of the old Allemannen mythology. Veritas: Yeshuanity: Traditional Allemannen Religion: Based on the herding of animals, all living beings have souls and the religious leaders were Shamans, both male and female. Once a person is dead they cremate the dead, for burying a body in the soil would only dishonour yourself, for you would then let maggots feast on your kin. Instead, the ashes that remain would be used to fertilize the farmlands, so that the dead could still help the people by making the soil fertile. "I see a man weeping near an apple tree, I go forth to ask him why and if I can do anything to help. He said that he do not need any help and that he is not crying out of sorrow, but of pride, this apple tree grew on the ashes of his father, and now he told me, that his father could provide apples for generations to come." - Unknown tourist 5.0 Tourism Tourism is important for the people of Allemann, tourists come to climb the eastern mountains or to fish in the rivers or visit the cities. 8.0 Defence Forces As a landlocked nation there is no need for a Navy, instead the Army keeps a group of boats armed with machine guns, who's task it is to patrol the rivers of the Commonwealth. 8.1 Army In Allemann, everyone over the age of eightteen (18) years of age are eligible for conscription for either six (6), nine (9) or twelve (12) months of military duty. Note: Civil duty is possible if one's religious, political beliefs clash with the armed nature of the military. ![]() The standard uniform of the armed forces is the same in all two branches. M92 is a light and dark green splinter camouflage with circles of varying colours. M92Wi is the winter version is completely white with dark green circles. M92Wu And the desert version is two varying shades of brown with dark green circles. The standard issue firearm of the Defence Forces is the SG20 assault rifle. A bullpup design based off of the Githan UK family of firearms with Allemann modifications. With intregrated iron sights and a scope in the carrying handle the rifle looks futuristic but is reliable. ![]() 8.2 Air Force |
