History 293-286 Years Ago Many historians agree that the pivotal moment in the founding of the Incorporated States of Riginite Peoples (ISORP) was the assassination of Major General Boric Ofonasii, leader of the Herspegovans, almost 300 years ago. The death of the Major General sparked nearly three years of accusations and veiled threats, as the peoples of the Rigin Valley drew upon paranoia and long founded grudges to push the region to the brink of war. Surprisingly, it was the normally warlike Nuekallayan's that first extended the branch of peace, signing the Delta Stream Non-aggression Pact (DSNP) with Qlestine and Critera, and bringing a measure of stability to the north and central parts of the Rigin Valley some 289 years ago. Over the following year and a half the number of DSNP signatories rose to five, as Clefe and Vizcosa agreed that the prevention of conflict was pivotal to the continued stability in the Riginite region. Tensions remained high, however, between the Narweighans and the Herspegovans, with the latter convinced that the Narweighans had a hand in the assassination of Major General Ofonasii. In the north west too, the greatly pious leaders of Gilead Zion chose not to sign the DSNP for fear that doing so would compromise the hold that the Zionist church was strengthening within the region. With armed conflict between Narwah and Herspegova a very real threat, a DSNP task force, led by Qlestine intervened to mediate between the nations the following summer. Under the flag of peace, the task force managed to convince the begrudging neighbours to stand down pending a region wide conference to be held on neutral land at the earliest convenience. An invitation too was sent to the Zionists, and 285 years ago the leaders of Qlestine, Nuekallaya, Critera, Clefe, Vizcosa, Gilead Zion, Narwah and Herspegova met at Terra Nova, a stretch of land that incorporated the borders of five of eight regional territories. This meeting, known as the Pax Primal, was to be birth of the ISORP as it is known today. |

Religion Each region within the Incorporated States of Riginite Peoples is permitted to worship as their own governance allows. Below are the current religious stances of the various regions. Clefe: Clefe is home to many religions, but none are offically recognized by the goverment. Religious organizations are viewed as corporate entities and are taxed accordingly. While their are no restrictions on worship, religions must adhere to laws regarding civic organizations. Qlestine: Qlestine upholds a law of freedom of religious practice. One clause states however that no practice of religion may impede upon the rights or safety of any other individuals. Religions are not allowed to recieve government funds of any kind, and religious arguments are discouraged in legislative and judicial forums. Although one of Qlestine's unfailing mottos is "Dios, patria, libertad" the motto does not specify any one God or religion and is for this reason more wildly excepted. Narwah: Narwah is the home state of the Church of Nar and remains home to 98% of the church's followers. Deeply religious, Narwah remains 93% Church of Nar, 2% Church of Ner, 1% Christian, 1% Muslim, 1% Islam, 1% Buddhist, 1% Unknown Vizcosa: Religion is of no concern to the Vizcosian government and as such, religion is freely practiced throughout Vizcosa in all forms. Granted, the percentage of the population that maintains a faith is very low (12%), but the choice is there. Herspegova: Religion in Herspegova has in recent years taken a backseat. Many see it as being a throwback to old days of superstition. In spite of this the government has ensured that people are free to follow what faith they will. As long as that faith operates within the law. Cults are rooted out with ruthless effeciency. Gilead Zion: While the government strictly enforces religious freedoms, the near absence of any adherants to an alternative religion (97% Zionite, 3% Zoroastrian) leaves the matter of religious diversity an issue on paper alone. Nuekallaya: Nuekallayans are allowed to practice whatever religion they wish in public or private, so long as their practices are acceptable within Nuekallayan secular law. The sate officially endorses the Zoroastrian church, and there is some discrimination against non-Zoroastrians - both official and unofficial - but not enough strongly effect everyday life. Critera: Recent changes in the political and religious climate of Critera have rendered such studies currently moot. |
