Hey everybody , so I know that this region is heavy in Roleplaying, and that there are factbooks and a cooperative history project. This is all great, and I want to participate! However, I was wondering if anybody would like to help me come up with the history portion of my factbook. I can use my national page and NationStates Calculators to develop my factual portion of the factbook, but history is so much more wide open. Also, I want to fit in with the regional history as well. I have a few ideas and I'll list them here:1. I'd like the ancient part of my nation to be based off of the Ancient Greeks in our RL world. 2. My nation is divided into two regions, containing three states each for six states total. 3. My government is Federal, with a national, then two regional, then six state, then broken up smaller based upon how each state is divided. 4. I already have the religion figured out, basing it off of some of my favorite video games, but I am open to some ideas based upon the religions and mythologies of other regional nations. 5. I'd prefer my people to have been somewhat but not completley isolated from the rest of Alterra, allowing them to develop their own distinct (yet somewhat similar to the rest) customs and religion. 6. I have never actually attempted an in-depth history of any of my nations (i'm not exactly new to nationstates). I would really appreciate the help!

If you want to be Greek-themed, you might try picking a spot in Northern Liberia, as that would give you a link with Livonia, who is Byzantine-themed, I'm not sure if he's still here though...

Ok, I'll consider looking into open map space in Northern Liberia. Thanks for the tip! However, I feel as though I have a long way to yet before I can consider a spot on the map. This is helpful though, I'm trying to check into other nation's factbooks and such to figure out culturally where I would fit best. I'm not even completely sold on the Greek theme, to be honest. |

Well there are a bunch of different options if you want greek history. Athens was a center of learning and democracy. Sparta was militaristic. Crete, whose civ predated Greece was a monarchy that engaged in bull worship. Did you want to base your countries history on a single city or more than one in a city state system? |

Well, I'm the Allied States, So I suppose that a city state system would be more historically accurate than a single city. I guess I could go with the six capitols of the modern states as being ancient city states that have survived into the modern era. I'm shooting for more of design influence from the Greeks, i.e. Architecture, Clothing, Armor, Weapons, Vehicle design (ships and carts etc.). I also want to incorporate the ancient city state system. Having each city be renown for something different could add some flare too, I just have to decide which city was renown for whatever quality. So to answer your question, I suppose that I would base the organization upon the entire city state system. Edited by Telafta, Dec 10 2012, 11:00 PM.

As others have mentioned the area around Cerberus sea would be most suitable for "Mediterranean" cultures. In my humble opinion places like L4, L5, L6, H7, X10 and X9 being the best though H7 might be pushing it. All of them aren't exactly "isolated" but you could always claim them to have been xenophobic to explain isolation and these plots are in the right climate and historically were part of the Cerberus Empire (or I think they were, somebody might correct me) ergo this sites version of the Roman Empire. As the above may have warned you a lot of plots on the map already have some history tied to them and you would have to take that into account, that doesn't have to be painful process though. In terms of religion we have the situation where virtually every country has its own religion, though Rahab and myself have worked out some history to explain the similarities and differences between our religions. |

If you go with the City State system you could also use that to explain why you have two regions, simply based on old alliances between the city states. |

It's a bit late to interject in the conversation, but old Fenwick was a series of city states as well before it was unified under one rule. However, it's in southern Xia so it might be better to stick with the areas Intermaris suggested. |

The two regions were based on old alliances of the city states. I'm thinking so far that there would be a more military-industry based alliance, the First Empire of Telafta, and the other alliance would be based around intellect-art, known as the First Republic of Telafta. There would be wars against Cerberus, possibly (i have to check their history, but perhaps a war as they conquerd the area, and maybe various revolutions). There would also have been civil war between the two regions, as well as the individual city states. |
